Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

You totally deserve it after last time :-)

Well done!

I'm just too impatient for my own good...it'll happen soon enough.

lucyjojo · 17/10/2013 13:34

Afternoon all. I'm just tucking into a healthy noodle salad on my lunch break. DH and I have been ridiculously healthy the past couple of days, fish, spinach, eggs, lots of veggies, we can't not get a bfp!!
Grin for you Stacks! Excellent news, this really is a lucky thread, We're going to be a busy lot with all the scan/baby photos next year!! (Optimism in full swing)
ATruth any developments today??
How is everyone else? What has happened to anyone who hasn't posted in a while? Are you still lurking in the shadows? Would be nice to hear from you if you're there!

mrsm22 · 17/10/2013 15:34

Hello All!

Stacks - Massive Congratulations to you!!!! xxxx I am so pleased for you, but also very jealous, I've got to say. I wish it was me. I hope you're not going to leave us and you'll stay on here. You are part of the crew! Absolutely amazing in your first month. Wishing you all the very best x
So ladies, i am at work but my last day in this week and then 5 days off! Lots of DTD I hope. So Stacks is now our 3rd to get a BFP and that is just since Early September when i started this thread so that's good.
Hungry - How are you feeling? There is iron in the Pregnacare tablets.
Lucy - very healthy with your noodle salad. We eat healthily most of the time too. I have no idea when to poas again but i worked out 28 days from my last AF to be end of october so i guess some time beginning of november if i can wait that long.
We have been DTD every day for the last week, either on a night or in the morning. Do i not stand a good chance? I can see we are all going to follow one after the other getting pregnant, but i think we should all stick together and not leave anyone behind. x

HungryHorace · 17/10/2013 16:05

Hi Mrs! Yes, I'm now stocked up on Pregnacare Conception as it was reduced to clear in Asda, so DH got me 3 boxes at £1.63 each :-) That should help all round, I think.

And what day did you start your AF? What cycle day (CD) are you? IIRC your cycle was 30 days last time, which means that you should probably really go for it with DTD from CD 12/13 - 18/19. If you knew when you ovulated it would be easier to spot your fertile days.

We are starting tomorrow with every day until I get a smiley face, then the day after that we will stop for the month, except for fun! I'll start using the OPKs on Saturday, CD 10.

I really hope we all get lucky soon. This thread seems to be very lucky, so there's hope! :-)

mrsm22 · 17/10/2013 17:10

Hi Hungry, I am a bit confused with working out when i ovulate etc. Can you try help? I came off the pill on 3rd sept so i wasn't sure how long it would take to have or get my first AF. If you remember, I had that bleed starting on the evening of Friday 4th october lasting until monday 7th/tuesday 8th, so when do i assume my next AF is due? If you count 28 days from first day of bleeding i guess that my next AF is fue on 1st November. Do you think that is right? I'm just not sure as i don't know how regular my periods will be. They used to be every 7 weeks before. If that's the case, i won't be due one until around 22nd nov. With this only being my first period since trying to conceive and stopping the pill it is really hard to tell when i will get my next AF and when i ovulate. I haven't bought any ovulation kits yet and want to try avoid that if i can, just because surely DTD every day you can't miss can you. We try DTD every night or in the morning if we miss the night for any reason. I might try tonight and in the morning tomorrow only because i am off work.
Anyway, how are you feeling today and how is your DS?
How is everyone else?
x

HungryHorace · 17/10/2013 17:29

Did you have a withdrawal bleed after finishing the pack? The first day of that is the first day of your last cycle.

The first day of this cycle is the first full day of bleeding (if AF starts after midday, CD1 is the next day).

I would potentially base it on the first cycle off the pill. If it's going to be 7 weeks long my feeling is you've peaked too soon!

You should OV 11-17 days before your AF is due. Your luteal phase (the time between OV and AF is 10-16 days long, but will be constant, give or take one day). If anything alters it'll be the time to OV, e.g. stress can delay OV, but once you've OV'd your luteal phase shouldn't alter.

If AF is late, it's either late OV or pregnancy, not an extended LP.

So, I don't know when you'll OV as you're not sure how long your cycle is. If you knew that we could hazard a guess.

That's why I've gone straight to OPKs this time. Much easier to work with!

Sorry if it's a bit confusing.

And I'm not too bad. Bit lightheaded, but not as tough as I has been. :-)

HungryHorace · 17/10/2013 17:31

^^ Rough as I had been. Bloody iPhone and iOS 7!

utopian99 · 17/10/2013 17:59

Hurrah stacks! Fantastic news am now ragingly Envy

So can anyone tell me what's up with me? No AF still after over 4 weeks, IC stick told me I might be ovulating yesterday but another this morning said not, and yet today ewm turns up.. Utterly confused! Not much chance anyway as only DTD yesterday for the first time in a week due to ds being ill.
Am far more impatient this time round and it's killing me. Arghggh...

Stacks · 17/10/2013 19:01

Utopian the ov sticks are a bit confusing, if you got a high yesterday then you should have ovulated sometime after that, I think it's 12-24 hours after? So that will coincide with the ewcm. If you dtd yesterday then you're in with a really good chance! It only takes once - DH and I only managed 6 times this cycle, all 2-3 days apart. I've no idea when I ovulated though, as this cycle was much longer than any I'd had before, but given how faint the pg tests were, I think I'm only just pg - maybe 9-10dpo.

Read up on the ovulation tests to get an idea what you're looking for. It's actually all quite interesting, they measure one hormone rising and another falling I think (depending on the brand) and they only show that ovulation should happen, not that it will, the window for a positive can be less than 24 hours, so it's possible to never get a positive unless you test 2-3 times a day! I'm rambling on, sorry.

Basically, you've got a chance if the ov stick was right - pretty much perfect timing. Oh, and if you believe the wives tales you're more likely to have a girl, because the say the girl sperm swim quicker, so sex at the last minute before ov means more likely a girl. Though it's all hack science :)

HungryHorace · 17/10/2013 19:36

That could be right, utopian. OPKs only catch the surge so can go negative quickly. If you DTD yesterday that sounds perfect :-)

Cheapie IC OPKs really don't do much for me. I know the smiley ones are extortionate, but you can't misread a smiley face.

How long were your cycles before?

Toothpastekissesno2 · 17/10/2013 19:49

So impressed by the knowledge on here! I'm learning a lot!
Mrs the count starts from first day of bleed not last. That's my only contribution!
My sis doesn't know I'm trying exactly though she might suspect. It would be all my Christmases at once if we had baby at same time! Not even going to entertain the luck of that.
Sorry didn't realise this was third bfp! Amazing. We are a lucky thread. Who's next??!

utopian99 · 17/10/2013 20:00

Thanks for the info Horace and stacks, I really have no idea what I'm doing, do I?

My cycles before ds were regulated by the pill, then I had a four week cycle, two week cycle, then pg so not helpful really...

toothpaste fx for you and your sister! My oldest school friend has been back from travelling with her dh and I know they want to start but feel that money won't allow. Sad I keep coming up with get rich quick schemes to try to help; I would love it if our next and theirs were close.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 17/10/2013 20:15

I know toothpaste - I have to re-read several posts because I'm so busy thinking "how did you know that?" I'm totally clueless about all of it - both of my previous pregnancies were, um, surprises Grin

It does seem to be a lucky thread. Let's hope the rest of us are celebrating soon too.

I thought that babies conceived on the day of ovulation were most likely to be boys stacks - I thought girls were the hardy ones who hung around for a few days and boys were the quick ones who got to an egg soon after it was released?

Personally, I'm less fussed by this than I was. Much as I would love one of each for me, I suspect it would be better for siblings to be the boys so either is fine Grin

HungryHorace · 17/10/2013 20:25

Fingers crossed we are all lucky soon!

And yes, girl sperm live longer and boys swim faster. :-)

I'm far too analytical and like to know how things work. Hence knowing loads about getting pregnant. I knew NOTHING before DD!

lucyjojo · 17/10/2013 20:59

Wow! That is some impressive knowledge, can I ask the ovulation oracle a question? My periods have always been regular, and since I've been keeping a record for the past 3 or 4 months I've worked out there is always 25 days between my cycles - counting day 1 as the day after my period starts, and day 25 as the day before my period is due. So I always start AF on day 26. Does this mean my cycles are 25/26/27 days long!? I am totally clueless too!!! I have been using online calculators to figure out when I ovulate, but are these any good really?
Mrs you are putting in some good efforts there! Hope you're still enjoying yourselves though and not putting too much pressure on!
It would be lovely to have a bump buddy wouldn't it, one of my friends was talking about having her second, but I think she needs to convince her partner to have another one first.

HungryHorace · 17/10/2013 22:05

Lucy, unless your AF starts after midday, the day it starts is CD 1. So in that case CD26 is actually the day before AF. The next day is CD 1 (assuming AF starts before midday, otherwise it's CD 27).

I use the My Days app, and it was very accurate, even with only a few months' data in it. No app / online calculator will know exactly, but they can give you a very good idea as to your fertile period. :-)

donnas1984 · 17/10/2013 22:25

Stacks - CongratulationsGrin woohoo so happy for you! Like you I was ages ttc my dd 23 months to be exact! So to happen 1st cycle flabbergasted me! dh jot do happy we only dtd about 5 times haha xx
Hope you keep well Smile

donnas1984 · 17/10/2013 22:26

jot do? not to!

mrsm22 · 18/10/2013 08:54

Good morning all! Sorry for not being onset night, I was so tired after work and fell asleep about 8.30pm for two hours then woke up to DTD with DH and we have again this morning.
Hungry - glad you've not felt as bad. I did have a withdrawal bleed when I came off the pill but then just over 4 weeks later I had what I think was a period. I still don't really understand the ovulation kits and DH isn't keen to start using them just yet so going to see where we are by December. I guess any one of us could be pregnant now and not know it.
Lucy - you are right, it does need to stay fun and not just about DTD. I need to keep that in mind as some nights it has just been a case of telling DH to get he from work so we can baby make. I am having difficulty understanding when we ovulate etc, it's very confusing!
Donna - how are you feeling? Any more sickness? How was your holiday, are you back yet?
ATruth - I'm same as you, don't really mind but would love another DS.
Toothpaste - good luck to your sister, it would be nice for you to be pregnant together. As for who is next?... I'd be happy for any one of us x

IBelieveInEngels · 18/10/2013 09:06

Hi everyone. Hope it's okay for me to jump aboard.

We are ttc DC2. DS is 2 and we decided in the summer try for number 2. It took me 18 months to get pg with DS (with one mc at 6 weeks).

Got pg a few weeks ago on cycle 3 of trying, but had a mc at 6 weeks earlier this week (on DS's birthday).

Going to wait now to see when my cycle starts again. With my last mc I had a 4 week wait for AF and then got pregnant after that with DS, so who knows, perhaps I will have a sticky bean before the year is out.

Looking forward to getting to know you all Smile

Kt1991 · 18/10/2013 10:00

Welcome ibelieve Smile sorry to hear you've had a bad time of it. Fingers crossed for you this month!

IBelieveInEngels · 18/10/2013 10:33

Thanks kt

Am actually looking forward to some low pressure dtd this month now. Won't use opk this month as just want to see what happens with my cycle.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 18/10/2013 10:57

Welcome ibelieve and sorry to hear about your MCs. You sound like you're coping brilliantly though.

IBelieveInEngels · 18/10/2013 11:05

Forgot to add am 32 and live in the Netherlands.

Love your username truth - I just finished reading Death Comes to Pemberley last week!

mrsm22 · 18/10/2013 11:10

Hi IBelieve and Welcome aboard! Also sorry to hear you've had a mc, that must be heartbreaking. We have all been trying since early September I think and have had 3 BFP's already which is wonderful and encouraging for the rest of us. My DS will be two at the end of December and I am desperate for another DS for DS1 to have a sibling.
How's everyone else today ? I'm glad to be off work today.
IBelieve - once you get to know us you might want to join our FB page (you might not once you've got to know us) but just let us know if you decide you'd like to join and HungryHorace is our FB leader x
