Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Oh, and naughty Donna!

I wasn't ever really that tired, I don't think. But my work wears me out anyway, so I was starting from not overly perky!

MitsuruSenpai · 28/09/2013 20:50

Hi all, is there room for another little one? My DS is 14 months and I stopped the pill 4 weeks ago to TTC number 2. Already had my first AF which is a good sign, so fingers crossed it won't take too long! Took us 6 months to conceive last time, and we ended up buying a Clearblue monitor which worked for us first time. So far I've held off buying more sticks for it as, according to DH "we can be more relaxed about it this time" but if it doesn't happen this month I reckon I'll be going to Boots for some on the sly! Grin

mrsm22 · 28/09/2013 20:59

Hi Mits and welcome to our gang! Wow you've come off the pill and already has AF. That's where I wish I was. Can I ask you how long after stopping had pill you got AF? I have been off the pill nearly 4 weeks and nothing yet. My DS is 22 months old today. Took me 7 months to conceive my DS after stopping had pill but I had been on it a lot longer. Does that make a difference, how long you've been on it?

Was 3 weeks to the day, but the pill I was on really didn't suit me, had a LOT of breakthrough bleeding so don't know if that's got anything to do with my quick recovery! Did have problems last time we conceived with short luteal phases so hoping I'll go longer than 3 weeks before my next one.

I was only on this pill for a few months before my first pregnancy, was on the combined pill for ten years which I loved but had some neurological problems that meant I couldn't take it anymore so swapped to progesterone only which I HATE! We knew it would only be a few months till I stopped so just put up with it.

After DS was born I had an implant and bled constantly for 6 months before I could convince my doc to remove it. Once again we knew it wouldn't be long before we TTC so went back on the crappy pill for a few packs before stopping. I suppose really I'm lucky that my system seems to recover quickly from the barrage of hormones I keep throwing at it! Copper coil for me after this one I think.

mrsm22 · 28/09/2013 21:18

Oh yes I'm totally with you, copper coil for me next time too! My mum had one and swears by it. I was on the combined pill for years before TTC my DS but I think to come off and get pregnant in 7 months wasn't bad. I just hoped/hope this time it would be quicker and really want to be pregnant by Xmas. My doctor said anything from 3 weeks to 3 weeks to get AF after stopping the pill. I suppose 3/4 weeks isn't long but I will feel much happier when I know I'm ovulating and things back to normal. Never again with the hormonal contraception!

HungryHorace · 29/09/2013 05:48

After number 2 I'm going back on the injection, I think. I hate periods and hormones and I feel very hormonally neutral on that! As in no ups and downs throughout a cycle.

Argghhh...DH is playing with DD while changing her nappy. She'll never go back to sleep. I think she's his baby in that case!

mrsm22 · 29/09/2013 08:33

Hungry - you were up early today! Did your DD go back to sleep?

Kt1991 · 29/09/2013 09:18

Morning ladies how are we all today? Think that's the Witch done with me this month thankfully so back to DTD! Although I'm getting period cramps still today even though no blood since Friday so hoping she doesn't carry on! I'm still not sure about my cycles now as this was 37 days since my last one so going to go with that and see what happens next month. Really want to be pregnant by Xmas too!

HungryHorace · 29/09/2013 09:36

Mrs, DH took DD. She slept on him but not in bed. Ah well!

Good luck, KT. :-) What's the DTD plan this cycle?

Kt1991 · 29/09/2013 09:44

I've got a bit obsessed and downloaded loads more apps to try figure my cycle out! Think I should be ovulating around 12/10/14/10 so will do as much DTD as we can around then! May buy some tests from amazon to check now, as the past 2 months just been Guessing and DTD lots lol.Another reason why I really really want to conceive this month now is that DH has to work away for 3 weeks between beginning of Nov and just before Xmas! And I think one of the weeks is when I might ovulate so really don't want to miss out!

mrsm22 · 29/09/2013 11:25

Hi Kt. - glad AF has gone now for you. At least you know you are definitely ovulating so fingers crossed you should have a good chance of getting pregnant by Xmas . Wouldn't it be good if we all were and fell on together around the same time? We could move our threat and rename it with all the same members.
Hungry- my DS slept in our bed all last night, as he does most nights ( I regrettably let him stay with is too long before moving to his own room, won't make that mistake again! We have DTD this morning but I still have no idea if I'm ovulating yet. I don't know what will come first for me a BFP or AF. If you ovulate a couple of weeks before you have AF then that could mean for example that I could be ovulating now ready for AF in a couple of weeks and if we managed to DTD at the right moment then I would miss AF altogether . But it's all just speculation at the moment.

Mrs, that's why it's best to DTD every 2-3 days in your cycle. You have more chance of catching OV and you're kept 'topped up' with swimmers (lovely!).

We haven't DTD since CD19 on Weds now. Think we've lost the momentum. Worst case that should see me with live swimmers til CD22, so I'm sure we would have caught OV. Just have to hope for fertilisation.

Maybe we should do it today too?! Argh.

Mrs, where do you banish DS to in the morning to allow you to DTD? Does he go easily? :-)

I must buy some internet cheapie pregnancy tests. Can't justify expensive ones til I get a result on a cheapie!

Metalhead · 29/09/2013 13:30

Hi ladies, hope everyone is having a nice weekend! I had a girls night out on Friday with all my old NCT friends which was lovely, though I'm very much hoping I'll have to stay off the booze for the next one in January due to being upduffed...

I had a very definite positive opk yesterday on DC17, so got busy with DH last night and will try and do it again tonight just to make sure. After that we'll probably keep up the dtd every other day routine for at least a week, and then keep our fingers crossed that we've done enough this month. (Sod's law it will actually happen this month as this would give me a due date just 5 days after DD's birthday, which is really not ideal!)

AF should be due 14/10 - anyone else potentially testing around then?

Kt I've been using the Amazon opks too, defo worth the £8 for a pack of 50!

HungryHorace · 29/09/2013 13:40

Fx Metalhead!

Realised I forgot to say hi to Mits!

Kt1991 · 29/09/2013 13:54

mrsm yep I would say DTD every couple of days at the moment until you get an AF and know your cycles! My DS keeps creeping into our bed too really struggling at bedtime with him recently so really hoping he will go straight down tonight for us then time for baby making! Fingers crossed metalhead! will have a look online later and order some thank you :) sorry same here hi to mits I'm using my phone and can't see other posts before I post mine frustrating! Having to remember what you've all said lol xx

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 29/09/2013 14:28

Room for one more? DS is two and dh has been adamant since his birth that one is enough. I've been so heartbroken that I was tempted to leave, but today he said "you know, I've been thinking, maybe..." Grin

Whoop!!!! So, what do I need to know? Ds was a 'surprise' so I've never ttc before.

donnas1984 · 29/09/2013 21:43

A Truth welcome! My dd will be 2 in Nov and my dd has been on at me for months for another.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 29/09/2013 21:57

Just trying to decide whether to watch Downton (we're on +1 as DS went to bed late) or pounce on DH before he changes his mind

donnas1984 · 29/09/2013 22:04

strike while the irons hot!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 29/09/2013 22:06

Sigh. Okay then. I guess there's always iplayer...

HungryHorace · 30/09/2013 03:49

Hi ATruth :-)

You need to get to know your cycle (using an app will help) and DTD a lot at least throughout your fertile period, if not your full cycle if you don't know when you OV.

And try to enjoy it! :-)

BetterNotBitter · 30/09/2013 07:58

Morning everyone!

Had a very busy weekend, which included some of our close friends with their newborn on Saturday.....cliche indeed but you do forget how tiny and how much work they are! Both husband and I came away even more broody though!

I'm also a my days app user & think its great.

As for pregnancy symptoms, I mustn't hAve had many early on, as didn't find out until 7/8 weeks, after that I had bad sickness until 14 weeks.

I'm very much looking forward to the pregnancy part as well as the baby at the end of it, I loved being pregnant last time, what about everyone else? Good pregnancy, bad pregnancy?

BetterNotBitter · 30/09/2013 07:59

Oops also, welcome atruth And mits

BetterNotBitter · 30/09/2013 08:02

atruth I'm the same as you, last time was a very happy accident so it's the first time TTC for us too!

mits I don't blame you wanting to track ovulation!nit makes things less stressful I think!
