Yes vjones we're trying SMEP this month. It seems to work over a few months but those women may have got pregnant either way. Just trying it as it seems quite sensible in its approach. Only on day 2 of it though. Did an opk for the first time today even though its too early. It was exciting!

OK so I think I'm up to date now ... wow you ladies can talk Grin

Well done on all the weight loss and exercise - you are all very inspiring. I have been cutting out alcohol and trying to only have 1 cup if coffee a day, but as AF has arrived I'm going to be back on the wine this weekend and will cut down again nearer to ov time.

Good luck testing tomorrow onelife and suz.

Disney, how random, did you know your mom was sending you that? You'll have to link a photo for us, haha.

I feel like I have nothing much to contribute to TTC talk atm sadly; it's only properly CD2 for me, even though spotting started on Monday, annoyingly AF kept me hanging for 2 days. My thermometer arrived at work today, though, so I'm going to start charting on FF properly :)

Hah, VJones, I hope you get a more regular cycle this month. Perhaps we'll both be getting BFPs at the end of the month!

I also don't have a lot to bring to the table right now.

I'm in my 2ww. And I probably should avoid the wine at the housewarming I've been invited to in Saturday.

Other than that there's really not a lot going on over hereSad

Evening everyone! Wow its not even september yet and were almost on the second thread!

Hope everyone is feeling positive and good luck to the first testers over the weekend!

Yeah, here's hoping! Does having a funny luteal phase affect the chances of conception? People talk about a short LP as a bad thing but I don't know why.

Report
wispaxmas · 29/08/2013 19:09

VJ, it's because a fertilised eggs might miss the chance to implant if your luteal phase is too short. The egg can take up to 12 days to implant, though average is 9 days. If your LP is shorter than 10 days it can result in period before the egg implants and has a chance to signal to the rest of the body that you're pregnant.

Oh no, that doesn't give me much hope then :(

Why? Apparently it's only a cause for concern if it doesn't lengthen after several months of natural cycles. Are you temping? If you pinpoint the exact date of ovulation and track the precise number of days in your LP and it's not getting longer after a few months, go see your GP, based on a quick internet search there are several things they can do to help.

VJONES1985 · 29/08/2013 19:22

Not temping but using opks. This month my lp was 7 days (first month off the pill). Have read interesting things about taking vitamin b6 to extend lp...

Report
cheesysmile · 29/08/2013 19:33

VJ don't worry yet as first month off the pill isn't likely to give you a true picture of what your cycles are going to be like. I would also suggest temping as will hep you to pinpoint your day of ovulation, that way you can be sure how long your LP is.

I think my LP was maybe a bit short at 11days this time, but kinda ignoring last cycle as was first after mc and 39 days so not expecting it to have been normal.

Lets hope we get BFPs this month so still have no idea of our LP length Grin

I'm all stocked up with vits and CB digital OPKs so ready to roll ... think I'll wait til about CD10 at least to start dtd every other day this time as started earlier before and find we run out of steam a bit Blush

VJONES1985 · 29/08/2013 19:34

Thanks, cheesy. Are opks not reliable then?

VJONES1985 · 29/08/2013 19:52

That's okay. Just wondering if temps are better than opks for some reason?

Report
wispaxmas · 29/08/2013 19:55

Apparently OPKs can be confusing, and it's best to combine methods of tracking to get a more accurate picture. The temp spike immediately after ovulation is supposed to be fairly straightforward.

Report
cheesysmile · 29/08/2013 20:07

From my understanding OPKs are to tell you that you're likely to ovulate in the next 24-48hrs, but they can't confirm ovulation. Temping doesn't tell you when you are going to ovulate, but you will see a temperature rise after you have ovulated that confirms you have -does that make sense? I'm planning on doing both this month. Hoping the OPKs will make sure we dtd at the right time and the temping will mean we don't stop too early.

I never know when we started thinking about ttc that it was so complicated!!!

Report
VJONES1985 · 29/08/2013 20:47

Yeah, which is why I still wish I could take the relaxed approach but that's not me unfortunately.

I need to find out about temping - I know absolutely nothing. I mean, do I need a special thermometer?
