Come and join us elderly TTCers on the Sofa of Pity (SoP), Rug of Rage (RoR), the Pouffe of Possibility (PoP) or the Chaise Lounge of Limbo (CLoL) whilst trying to avoid the BubbleBath of Gloom(BoG)!

The smallprint - Berries have a strict entrance criteria (TTC #1, over 30, TTC for 3+months, NO instadiffers, must have a special pot) and def no mention of baby dust or baby dancing UGH !!! Ooh we are strict...please note your house may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments lol

merk I came off pill about 18 months ago so (little white lie) doctor thought we'd been trying a year in feb so I started having tests then, I ended up having 3 lots of day21 tests (march April may) before it showed ov and then DH had 3 attempts at jizz test so now we are going to see GP about results and next stage which we hope is referral.

Obviously I am still hoping and praying that it will happen naturally but I don't wanna hang about in case it doesn't so wanted to start the ball rolling. Fx it works for you this month x

Kitty what's the next steps with your IUI?
bunny do you think from the tests you're not O'ing regularly? Hoping for Clomid?

Gillster · 02/07/2013 22:51

Evening all! I've been a little quiet over the last couple of weeks (although still been following the thread almost every day) but the following posting will make up for all of that. You may need some Brew and Biscuit and get yourselves comfy on the PoP, CLoL or RoR.

So today was my appointment with the consultant after they discovered an endometrial polyp during the ultrasound and hycosy scans. The doc said I would leave the appointment with a plan of action and she wasn't wrong! She discussed removing the polyp first of all as I expected her to but mentioned that the scans had also revealed some fibroids which may/may not be causing issues. Given the type of fibroids she didn't think they were causing any particular issues with implantation but that she wouldn't know for sure until she did the procedure to remove the polyp.

She also talked about whether or not I was ovulating. To give a bit of background, I've had 2 CD21 tests but I don't think they were taken at the right time in my cycle so ovulation remains inconclusive (I get positive OPKs every month, EWCM and cramping so I'm hopeful that something is happening but I guess you can't be sure without the blood tests). She then started talking about PCOS and whether there were any indicators of me having it. On the basis that I had raised testosterone levels at my day 2 blood test and that my cycles were longer (usually about 33 days but I have had 2 cycles over 40 days in the last six months), she felt that this may indicate PCOS although nothing was noted on my scans so again it was a little inconclusive.

I think she was about to write a prescription for Clomifene when she double checked my age. I think initially she thought I was 30 (if only) but I said very quickly that I was 39. Well apparently that changed everything. On confirming that we'd been trying 18 months she recommended straight away that I should go down the IVF route and was this something I was willing to consider. My response (although not verbatim I might add) was something like "Hell, yes!" So she said she'd refer me to the assisted conception unit although this referral has to go through my GP as they basically have their mits on the purse strings (from what I can gather).

She mentioned that the wait from referral to beginning treatment was 18 weeks so in the meantime they could "tidy up my pelvic area" (those were the exact words!), i.e. move full steam ahead with the polyp removal and fibroid investigation. This is scheduled for 17th July and will be done under a general anaesthetic. She also asked whether I'd like to try some Clomifene for a couple of cycles between polyp removal and IVF so I said "why not" and she wrote me a prescription for it.

So all in all that was quite a plan of action. Just hoping that GP will splash the cash and that the fibroids aren't causing issues as that would be a separate procedure. Not sure if I should still be TTC for this cycle as usually OV around CD19/20 and currently on CD15. Head was whirring quite a bit from all the information but overall I think I'm happy.

Sorry I haven't name checked anyone but I've been following closely all your own trials and tribulations with crossed fingers. X

CatsCantFlyFast · 02/07/2013 22:57

gill we've not 'met' but well done on a fab result. Here's to your next few months of pregnancy prep! Wine

barkingtreefrog · 02/07/2013 23:00

Wow Gillster, what an impressive plan of action!! Full steam ahead at a fast pace and all options covered!! You'll be updiffed one way or another, doesn't sound like they're going to give you a break until you are! Grin
You must be pretty chuffed with it all? Head spinning aside, obviously.

Tallyra · 03/07/2013 07:48

Hi Gil, that sounds like the most amazing doctor! congratulations!
I think you need to tell us who you are seeing and where - there are some berries here that could do with getting a sympathetic doctor - you found the good one!!

Getting myself psyched up for the pre assessment tomorrow for my scar checking scan... not even sure what they are going to say to me about it. Blush scared now!

Boomgoestheweasel · 03/07/2013 07:59

Morning!

Gill wow that's amazing! Why aren't all doctors like that I wonder - sounds like the fairy godmother of the FC world. So pleased that you've got a proper plan and this doc seems determined to get you updiffed as soon as possible!

Tally hope your scan goes well tomorrow and is reassuring. Always scary when they start looking at your insides and you don't know what they'll find x

Thundercatsarego · 03/07/2013 08:28

Hello all,

gill this is great! How fantastic to have some action at last. And I'm impressed they thought you were 30 too. I don't think anyone would make that mistake with me and it was only 4 years ago for me! Double boost!

tally big good luck today. I'm sure it will go fine and they'll just be explaining what will be going on in the next bit. Let us know though.

Well DP came home yesterday so we dtd again -this is pretty impressive for us please please please let it work I just want to go back to having sex for FUN

Bunnygirlie · 03/07/2013 08:40

Morning!

mark 2 of my day21 tests levels were low so I might not have ovulated or they might not have been taken on the right day. Not sure what I'm hoping for really.

Oh gill I'm so please your appointment went well, FX for you!

tally break a leg!

thunder you go girl! I know what you mean, hasn't sex become a bit of a chore!

Bunnygirlie · 03/07/2013 08:41

merk MERK not mark! Doh!

OP posts:
Gillster · 03/07/2013 08:44

To be honest I think the plan of action has very much been driven by my age. The doc said that if I was 5 years younger they would concentrate on the Clomid first before doing anything else. She was lovely though and given that my appointment was an hour later than it should have been, I think she was certainly spending a lot of time with all her patients.

Good luck Tally for tomorrow. I'm sure you'll be fine.

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/07/2013 09:02

Good luck Tally.
Thoroughly pissed off here... 3rd day of a +ive OPK. The thought of more sex is making me want to cry! Totally with you Thunder on want to be doing this for fun... It's almost impossible for it not to become a chore right now. Bless my DHs cotton socks tho, he's battling through it!

Thundercatsarego · 03/07/2013 09:12

Another opk question- I asked this a lot when I started using them but never for an answer. Presumably you can still get a positive opk after you've ov?

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/07/2013 09:32

Thunder yes. Especially if you're using the famous cheapies which are v sensitive. Hence testing 3 times a day is a good idea when close to O as otherwise you might miss the start and peak of the surge and only get a +ive after O.

Thundercatsarego · 03/07/2013 09:37

Yeah I thought do- that's good that I understand one thing at least! So the first positive really does give the most information. Although its a shame that there isn't some sort of measure of where in the peak you actually are. I use cb digi sticks and just once a day with fmu (phone corrected that to gnu- ha!). My cycles are regular enough that I know when positive is coming so basically I should just be shagging as much as possible for the week surrounding that day!

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/07/2013 11:15

Where are you in your cycle now? You me and Bunny must be pretty aligned. I reckon AF due 15th July for me

Thundercatsarego · 03/07/2013 11:31

I'm on day 17. Af due 15/16th. Probably 16th I reckon. Cycle buddies! I think it sounds like you win the shag trophy although I'm still flabbergasted at managing 2 in one day

PuppyMummy · 03/07/2013 17:27

ooh af due 15th for me to!
we hav synchronised!

Bunnygirlie · 03/07/2013 17:45

Yep AF due here 16th by my calcs, don't hold out much hope though with this lurghy! seriously how much snot can one body produce

We can hold hands on the CLoL for the 2ww cycle buds!

OP posts:
Bunnygirlie · 03/07/2013 17:46

I'm def gonna opk test twice a day next month!

OP posts:
Thundercatsarego · 03/07/2013 18:05

Strikethrough fail.

Ok so on the Clol for the next two weeks. Hmmmmm

merk are you going to start testing early again? That will distract us a bit at least...

Bunnygirlie · 03/07/2013 18:20

Anybody due sooner?!?!?

OP posts:
Tallyra · 03/07/2013 19:09

I'm due on the 13th, but as not TTC it'll be pretty certain.

Thundercatsarego · 03/07/2013 19:37

Not for long tally!

Feeling ok about tomorrow?

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/07/2013 20:06

thunder am going to keep going with OPKs, both BFPs for me were preceded with a +ive OPK the day before (around 8 or 9dpo). So yes this time next week I will be peeing on sticks of one type or another. Although I will be in a different time zone so will be posting at weird times. Just want to have one more shag tonight (and maybe tomorrow) to be sure I've O'd before we get some rest stop. Though may need some cheerleaders by the bed to make that happen!!
