Is anyone doing this at the moment/has done it recently?? I'm in the middle of my first go and finding it quite stressful...

Well, I had some surprising news today! Am well and truly 'cooked' so to speak. I'm about a week quicker than the last 4 times so I hope it's a good sign. I've got to get up at 4am tomorrow to do my final injection then I go for my treatment on Wednesday & Thursday. Scary Mary . Please let this be the one . Feeling very very nervous now with the thought of the dreaded 2 week wait.

Bakedbean · 26/07/2004 15:31

Delgirl that's fantastic! I'm so pleased. Wil keep everything (including my legs!) crossed for you and hope that this is definitely the one. Do let us know how you get on and lots of luck!

Delgirl · 26/07/2004 15:39

awww thanks Bakedbean. Will, of course, keep you posted.

lou33 · 26/07/2004 17:29

Dg, that's great news, good luck

Delgirl · 26/07/2004 17:50

thanks Lou. am really nervous about it, in some way's i'm scared of getting pregnant again because....... Oh, I hope it works.

lou33 · 26/07/2004 18:00

Me too DG, I really hope it works.

CookieMonster · 28/07/2004 09:28

Delgirl, all the best for your treatment today and tomorrow ... hope you are feeling OK and good luck!!

Delgirl · 28/07/2004 16:23

Thanks cookiemonster, that means alot. Well, what a roller coaster of emotions. How easily I forget. This is my 5th go and I found today hard going. Excited, scared, happy, sad, you name, I seem to have felt it. Scared that I only have one more go left, happy that I've got this far, sad that my DH is gone, excited about what could be, emotional because I have part of dh still alive inside. And I have to do it all again tomorrow. Anyway, it was a good count with excellent motility so what more can I do? Go and sit in the garden and think positive thoughts. I had a reflexology session this morning and visualised a baby growing and then dh came into my mind and was taking care of our baby. Sorry, rambling now. Consider it a diary entry.

wobblyknicks · 28/07/2004 18:05

You're not rambling at all dg, must be a huge mix of emotions. Hope you had a relaxing time in the garden. xx

CookieMonster · 29/07/2004 10:26

Delgirl, I'm glad yesterday went well - hope today is the same.
I think you're such a brave and strong lady to be doing this on your own - I know when I was on the rollercoaster dh was my rock and I can't imagine what it must be like going through it knowing that your dh will never see your baby ...
Big big hugs CM xx

Delgirl · 29/07/2004 12:20

aww thanks CM. Right, it's all done now...hopefully, please, for the last time. I gave back my drugs yesterday but they gave them back to me today so I have them to start next time. I said that I was hoping there wouldn't be a next time but the nurse said, well if you have them, you won't need them. Now several weeks of those wonderful pessaries, not! Not sure how I'm feeling at the moment, quite calm I suppose. Feeling sick already lol. All I can do now is hope for the best. Will keep you posted.

testtubebaby · 29/07/2004 13:58

Met you on another thread DG, glad to hear things went well and everything crossed. Love the nurse's logic - it's the same as taking your brolly out with you ensures it doesn't rain, but going out without it........

You seem such a strong person. Good, good luck. Even hoping you soon start feeling sick every morning...?!

Delgirl · 29/07/2004 20:16

thanks ttb, strangley enough that's what i'd like too, just the chance to feel how the majority of women feel and obviously produce a healthy baby at the end. I don't think it's alot to ask, is it?!

testtubebaby · 30/07/2004 09:13

No, not at all DG. I vividly remember walking away from the clinic, after one of many visits due to OHSS, during the 2 week wait first time wishing and wishing I would feel sick. Did mention this to the nurse but got a strange look in reply!! Funnily enough I didn't suffer from sickness at all but still produced a healthy full termer. Don't worry if you don't feel sick, there are many more lovely symptoms instead!!

Cll · 31/07/2004 13:55

Hi All

Haven't wanted to post - too scared I might jinx something but my friend (Ok I fess up she's my sister but she's my best friend too) has done a positive pregnancy test...only three days ago so we're trying hard not to get excited. She was 42 in July and is doing this on her own with anonymous donor sperm which is one of the reasons I'm so involved. It's another cyclogest question realy. She'd been taking it, then stopped before she tested. It was only a chance comment by a friend that made me ring the clinic and they said she should be taking it still - but noone's mentioned two pessaries a day (as Delgirl did?) Do we just have to accpet that noone knows the science of this stuff? Also another friend of a friend who had her IVf in the States was given steroids and told to take half a junior aspirin a day to ward off miscarriage - anyone heard of that?
I'm petrified something's going to go wrong and am feeling more sick than my sister at the moment - with sheer anxiety. I've had two miscarriages and if anyone's heard of anything that can help towards preventing that (old wives tales alternative or medical I'd be most grateful. Am saying big prayers for all of you and particularly thinking of you Delgirl - when I read initially you were going it alone I thought ou were doing the same as my sis, but what you're having to deal with is somehow better and worse at the same time - if that makes sense

bayleaf · 31/07/2004 15:27

ONe pessary a day is normal unless your sister has specific problems - and no it is not an exact science so protocols vary between clinics.
Steroids are used in this country to improve egg yield/quality in older or less responsive women adn where there are immunological problems -not usualy otherwise.
If your sister has ivf related questions refer her to www.CARE-ivf.com where you will find the answer to ANY ivf question!!!
Wish her all the best, I know how fraught it is...

Cll · 01/08/2004 14:31

She's just started with a browny discharge - trying not to think the worst but it's not looking good

I feel sick and so sad and have to be happy cos it's my little one's birthday. Thanks for getting abck bayleaf - hope you're Ok

bayleaf · 01/08/2004 21:13

Browny dischange often means nothing at all - the only thing to worry about is fresh red blood. HONEST!!! Have a look on the care site if you don't believe me - brownish discharge is really common and as long as it doesn't turn bright red- just tell her to relax ! Fingers crossed!!!

Cll · 03/08/2004 16:27

Oh bayleaf you are so kind to respond especially given all you've been through. I went on the careivf site and managed to find and relay some reassurance - don't seem to be clever enough to be able to post . The update is she had her hcg tested today and it was 64 - whatever that means. She has to have it tested again in 48 hours. She would be 5 weeks today so 17 days post transfer. I thought by now HCG levels would be in their thousands? Oh I'm so crap at this. Anyone help?

Cll · 03/08/2004 23:07

bump

Portree · 04/08/2004 11:12

CLL, you can find some info on HCG Levels on these sites. The research is based on the number of days past HCG injection, I think. I used to have loads of links but lost them with the new PC.

HCGlevels

Ivfer.com

I took Cyclogest 400mg 2x/d from transfer and also took 75mg aspirin daily for the first 12 weeks of pg. This was all under the advice of my consultant. The aspirin is believed to help prevent early miscarriage as it prevents small clots.

The waiting is horrible, horrible, to find out if the levels are increasing at the appropriate rate. Fingers crossed for your sister.

Oh, a bulletin board site that I found very useful with loads of great info is ivfconnections.com HTH

Portree · 04/08/2004 11:26

CLL, here's another link for you regarding beta levels.

betabase.com

Portree · 04/08/2004 11:28

And here is the beta board at ivfconnections.

Beta Board

Cll · 04/08/2004 18:40

Looking at these I think we have to expect the worst - she'll know by 11.30 tomorrow but at the moment she's hopeful - do you thin I should warn her?

Portree · 04/08/2004 20:58

Cll, your sister may be OK and there are always those that fall outside the 'normal' range. So it doesn't necessarily mean bad news. IMO, I don't think it wise to mention it to your sister. What did her clinic think of her beta level? It may be slow to rise etc. From my own experience, I found that there was such a thing as too much information. I tortured myself about my beta levels needlessly. It's a horrible process and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
