Oh and also, deity of your choice bless the NHS. All this is free, and the staff were just brilliant, every last one. I can't imagine doing this while worrying about insurance costs.

happylass · 18/01/2013 09:46

School closed. Today I will mostly be building a snowman Grin

happylass · 18/01/2013 09:49

Sorry pip didn't mean to ignore you. Cross post! Congrats on selling the house! How long would it be before you could start with the IVF? Glad to hear your positive experience of the NHS too Grin

Aquarius1 · 18/01/2013 10:06

pip and captain hope you're recovering from your hospital experiences - pip so sorry about your less than ideal diagnosis but hope that bit of knowledge means you can get some more help with creating a mini-pip

Talking of diets/healthy eating (from several posts ago) i think I may need an overhaul- My doc is sending me for tests as my blood levels are quite low/wonky and she thinks it could be Low vit b12 and/or anaemia.

Anyone else had this? Any opinion on whether it affects ttc (prob a question for my doc)? Hoping i dont have to eat broccoli / spinach for breakfast lunch & dinner every day for the rest of my life...

Aquarius1 · 18/01/2013 10:07

Cross post here too - congrats on selling the house pip!

navis176 · 18/01/2013 10:10

I'm glad you had a positive experience pip - sorry the news wasn't better, but as you say at least you can investigate your options now - I often find the waiting worse than anything else

happy - yay, day off Smile

I was really depressed yesterday - had a stupid row about nothing with OH - which was really a row about being upset at not being pg and being upset that he's not more upset about it [sigh] Why does ttc make me crazy??? Wondering whether I should try talking to OH about how I feel or whether that will just make things worse - he's generally lovely but I'm worried that I might be pushing it too far??
Anyway, now taking on board all your chat yesterday about having a positive attitude [slaps self round face]

happylass · 18/01/2013 10:18

Aquarius I don't know for sure but I'm veggie and have been anaemic in the past so have been wondering the same myself. Am guessing the blood needs to be rich in iron for the womb lining to be thick enough for implantation? Have been taking natural iron supplements for the last few weeks. Definitely going to mention this to the GP if I don't get a BFP this month. Let me know how you get on.

viviennewestwould · 18/01/2013 10:36

Navis, talk to him.

Aquarius, I've read that all the B's are super-important in terms of fertility.

Pip, you sound positive. How come you waited this long for a lap & dye? Will you have NHS IVF?

Thanks to the snow I am not going in to work (hurrah!), however, I am now compelled to do some 'real' work at home (boo!) I am seriously considering giving up my freelance work. It pays fuck-all and I would rather watch telly.

Pipbin · 18/01/2013 11:24

Viv I went to the GP after 6 months of trying, it's taken this long to get this far.
Yes it will be NHS IVF.

viviennewestwould · 18/01/2013 11:32

Pip, are NHS success rates the same as private?

SidneyBristow · 18/01/2013 13:41

Pip that's great news! It has to be comforting to know that the next step ahead of you is very likely to give you what you've been wanting. How long did it take you to get from your first GP appointment to now? Did they tell you how long it'll be before the IVF can get underway? This past cycle was #7 for me, so next week I'm booking an intake appointment to get a GP. It'll be my first experience with the NHS, and it'd take some of my nervousness away if I had any idea what to expect. Congrats on the house by the way!!

Throwing snow down like mad here and I've just had a text that my DH & stepkids are coming home early. Things are about to get a lot noisier!

Pipbin · 18/01/2013 14:34

Sid We started trying in May 2011, went to the GP in Nov 2011, so it's taken just over a year to get to this stage. They consultant was keen to getting everything going due to my age so my next appointment with him is in 4 weeks.

I've got no idea about success rates, but as I've not got the money to pay for private it doesn't really matter.

At the moment I am really happy. I actually talked to my mum about it today. First time she knew anything about it.

If it doesn't happen, I don't have a baby, I am ok with it. I'll be sad, but it won't be the end of my life.

Rumplestrumpet · 18/01/2013 15:45

Afternoon ladies, pleased to see all the positive thinking!

viv - way to go with the frilly knickers. I've just packed for our hols and have taken way more lingerie than is reasonable.

Pip I really agree that there is a positive side to all this. Great that you opened up to your mum, it's nice to let it all out to real people sometimes (not that I'm a figment of your imagination or anything, though I do wonder about mother ;) And yes, fabulous that you're getting the treatment you deserve from the NHS. I have nurses in the family and as friends are they themselves are frustrated that not everyone gets the right amount of support. And sometimes you do have to put it all in perspective. DH and I have agreed we won't make ourselves sick trying to have babies - I'm keen to adopt/foster anyway, as I've seen children who need a family. I'm still traumatised by a visit to an orphanage in Africa years ago, where I was on the verge of saying "I'll give you a home sweet thing!" And as I've said before, having a DH who loves and supports you really is something special. Let's keep up the positive thinking :)

Bunny well done on keeping cool with your friend and the baby. I wonder sometimes if mothers get scared of me holding their bairns when they see that look in my eye "what if I just take you home with me, quickly, no one will notice..."

Ok now I do sound like more of a loon than the pregnant moon lady ;)

Rumplestrumpet · 18/01/2013 15:47

Quick Q -

I haven't done the OPKs for a couple of days due to the cystitis, but today I've got what I can only assume is what's referred to as "egg white" CM (I'm new to this "get to know your body malarky"). So does that mean I'm OVing now? we dtd sat, sun, mon, tues & weds, but not since then, and I'm not sure I'm up for it tonight, with the remnants of cystitis to deal with. Have I peaked too early and missed the boat this month?

Welcome your advice ladies!

MotherOfCleo · 18/01/2013 15:59

{{ Wafts in as a phantom of rumples imagination }}

{{wafts out again flapping my sex cape dramatically}} Grin

MotherOfCleo · 18/01/2013 16:03

On a more serious note rumple I wouldn't worry too much about things which are tbh out of your control. You're lady garden yes thats right I called it a lady garden needs a rest to get over the cystitis, you may well have done enough, I had egg white CM last month 2 days after I OVd. Fingers crossed super sperm did his job for you this month! I have an image of a sperm in a mr incredible type outfit If I am a figment of your imagination you should be worried {{cackles in a slightly crazy witch like fashion}} Smile

Boodle9 · 18/01/2013 16:07

Rumple Oh my god, I'm the pregnant moon lady! I always wanted a nickname...Hmm Grin!

In my experience, EWCM just means it's happening soon. Looking at my old charts, sometimes EWCM comes 1-2 days before ovulation, sometimes it has been on the same day. If you don't feel up to DTD tonight, perhaps you could do tomorrow morning instead?

I'm glad you're feeling good about things, Pip - I imagine having something real and concrete helps, even if it's not how you might have imagined things happening back at the start of the TTC journey.

In other news, I was at the hospital on Thursday too but it was a busy appointments day with Captain and Pip and I think I got forgotten! I had transabdominal and transvaginal scan (with AF kicking in...awesome) and the sonographer said that I was all clear - in her words, I have no "structural problems". Good news I suppose, but now back to the doctors to talk about next steps.

Continue to be pretty certain that it is thyroid-related.

Rumplestrumpet · 18/01/2013 16:09

{giggling like a naughty schoolgirl at the thought of his swimmers having superhero capes} Thanks mother for the reassurance. I was just wondering if I ought to give it another go in the morning, but you're right, my, er, lady garden needs a rest. Poor thing she's never been flooded this much since the heavy rains last summer ;)

Rumplestrumpet · 18/01/2013 16:40

sorry boodle just realised we cross-posted - and so sorry we forgot you! How could I forget the examinations in "full flow". No structural problems is good news, though I'm sure it's frustrating not having a good reason for all the delays. If you think it's thyroid related I'd push on it if I were you. I find it hard to tell the doctors what I think sometimes (they can act like you're telling them how to do their job) but take a deep breath and be firm. I don't know anything about thyroids, but I think I remember you saying you had tests already? No doubt you've already done some googling maybe - or perhaps one of the clever ladies on here can off some advice?

And for what it's worth, I think Pregnant Moonlady is a fabulous nickname :)

viviennewestwould · 18/01/2013 17:06

Rumple, ignore ewcm at your peril. It is the clearest evidence that ovulation is imminent (next 72 hours is my guess) You want a baby, right? Ignore your cystitis and get some sperm inside you. Don't rely on the sex you've already had - all that sperm will probably have perished by the time you ovulate [takes bossy hat off]

viviennewestwould · 18/01/2013 17:13

As for me..I begin in earnest tonight. I have instructed Mr. Viv not to mess about this weekend - in and out, job done without the pretence of foreplay. I don't want a trip to the moon on Starship Orgasm. My libido has gone on her hols and I can't be arsed pretending otherwise. In fact, if I can persuade him to take me from behind over the pouffé I can surreptitiously read Inside Soap opened on the floor at the same time.

2cats222 · 18/01/2013 17:54

Viv - thanks so much for making me belly laugh after a grumpy evening after finding out I was out this month. The words I want to write would have had me thrown out of here in an instant but you have cheered me up no end. I agree strongly that doggy was invented by women who had a good book on the go at the time!
To all the ladies going through tests/ not so great news, I'm sorry, and well done for being so positive. Good luck x

captainmoll · 18/01/2013 18:04

Good luck Viv! I hope he rises to the occasion *ahem..

Boodle, sorry I forgot it was a triple-whammy invasion of the uterus Thursday! Whilst I am very relieved for you that you are structurally sound, I get that's its also frustrating - back to square one. Has your DP had any tests yet?

Pip - what's the next stage with ivf? Do they pump you full of fertility drugs? Fx it all goes swimmingly and you get your baby soon x

I am enjoying all these imaginary spectres wafting about.

Boodle9 · 18/01/2013 18:12

He's had one SA which was a bit iffy, but not terrible. (Slightly low motility and morphology.) He was going to go back to get a repeat done this week but bad weather is preventing that - we're not close to the hospital. Hopefully he'll get there once the snow and ice doing the rounds has cleared. I'm hoping it'll be a better result...last time he might have been a little...urm...stale. Blush

Viv - Inside Soap?! Whatever floats your boat, I guess! Wink

Rumplestrumpet · 18/01/2013 19:32

Stale, what a lovely thought boodle. We haven't got around to DH having any tests yet, he's not exactly jumping at the prospect. That'll be next on the list once I've had some more hormone tests.

Sorry to hear you're out this month 2cats, that's disappointing. Hope you've got some nice plans for the wkend to keep you smiling.

As for viv - good for you for giving it a go when you're not in the mood though, I'm assuming Inside Soap is a euphemism for something? I don't mind the bossy orders - keep sending them this way - but wasn't it you yesterday refusing to DTD even though you had EWCM? Tbh I really don't think my body is up for any hanky panky right now, but we'll see how I feel in the morning. With work over now until mid Feb (woo hoo!) hopefully we'll both be up for a relaxing lie in :)

Speaking of reading during sex, leading on to sexy reads, I resisted the 50 shades phenomenon because of all the hype, but I'm wondering... Has anyone read Fifty Shades and can you recommend it for a holiday read? I've just got a Kindle so DH need not even know...
