Well done Buster, that's great. I've been there once and I can tell you it will seem strange not to be having scans all the time. I had to make do with obsessively prodding my belly once I'd got to the stage where I could feel him kick, poor child!

Havingkittens · 06/11/2012 23:10

I fell down the wet and rainy stairs going into Oxford Circus tube this afternoon Sad. Feeling rather bruised and my ligaments feel somewhat tender. Fingers crossed all should be OK as I only went down about 3 and landed on my bum but I'm feeling a bit twingey. I've just ordered some Doppler gel so when that comes I'm going to have a prod around with the doppler Mercator kindly send me as my next scan isn't 'til 23 November.

duggs1976 · 07/11/2012 07:30

Oh Kittens I bet some people walked around you rather than helped. Am sure all is fine you must be shaken up as is bad enough as a non pg person. U ok this morning honey?

brownstag · 07/11/2012 07:59

Hope you're okay this morning. My sister did the same thing when she was pregnant, falling down some stairs on the way to work. She did go in to hospital to get checked out although everything was fine.

Havingkittens · 07/11/2012 09:11

Thank you. I think I'm fine. Slightly restless sleep as I have rather bruised hips, especially down most of my right thigh, and now that I have to sleep on my side it was a bit ouchie! Yes, lots of people walked around me. A couple of people stopped and asked if I was ok, in particular one lady who came down the that stairs with me and made sure I was fine. I don't look very pregnant yet (and was wearing a bit furry swing coat which hides any clues!) so it wouldn't have been "Oh god, pregnant lady just fell down the stairs. I hope she's OK." I had a few ligament twinges last night but I think that's just because I was holding on to the hand rail and twisted a bit when I fell.

MistressIggi · 07/11/2012 09:14

Still lurking - Kittens wanted to say I used hair gel with my doppler, just bought a cheap tube of it and seemed to do the job ok (if you don't want to wait for the good stuff)

Havingkittens · 07/11/2012 14:22

Thanks for that suggestion Iggi. I tried it and heard a feint heartbeat. I didn't have the volume up very high though as the lodger was in the next room! The doppler gel was only a couple of quid, as opposed to the rather pricey hair gel I just borrowed out of my work kit so hopefully that will turn up soon.

Buster76 · 07/11/2012 14:54

Thanks kittens and brownstag Wink

Poor you kittens - at least you landed on your bottom!! Its scary though! I fell at work a couple of weeks ago, landed on my knees and put my hands out. You cant help but worry but they are so protected in there - all nice and cosy Wink
On the belly front kittens Im a bit like you, more obvious when I stand up but could just look a bit fat!! It disappears on a morning and gradually gets bigger over the day.
Had a bit of a scare yesterday having my final scan and lipids. Louise was scanning me, I could tell the heart rate looked really low and could see she was worried. I felt soooo sick! Anyway after what felt like hours, was probably seconds, he wriggled and it came back upto normal range. She thinks he was most likely sleeping, she checked with another consultant and he said thats pretty normal. She checked with a doppler later on too. Bloody hell.......just when I thought I could relax! Anyway got my doppler out this morning, all hunky dory! Phew!! Also had midwife appointment today so asked her to check too!! I promised myself I would only use the doppler once a week......I think it may become a daily event!! How many times do you normally use it kittens? Hope the gel turns up soon!!

D xxxx

ConeyIslandBaby · 07/11/2012 19:06

Glad to hear everything is going well Buster despite a slightly scary start to the scan. Its so encouraging to hear about you ladies that have been through the treatment. I was interested in what you said about the steroids messing with your cycle; I've had the wierdest month, with in-between bleeding (which I never normally have) and the longest cycle ever.

AF arrived this morning, at 38 days! (normally max 35). I'd been getting feint positives on First Response (which I will never use again) but negatives on clear blue digis. What is all that about? Anyway, this will be our 2nd cycle under Mr. S. so need to give it a really good shot this month, my poor DP Grin. We've conceived within 1 or 2 months previously, I hope the pred doesn't change that.

Secretly quite glad to have a period (strange girl), as I get to use my mooncup for the first time. It takes a bit of getting used to I must say! But still, saving the world one sanitary product at a time.

Kittens sorry to hear about your fall, sounds painful. Hope you are feeling ok.

Hi to everyone else!

Havingkittens · 07/11/2012 19:22

Bloody hell Buster, stress you definitely don't need! So glad all was ok in the end. Today was actually the first time I've used the doppler. I went away on holiday around the time Mercator offered to post it to me so suggested she waited until I got back but as I had a scan shortly after I got home I refrained from using it. I'm going to try not to use it too often and trust that all is ok. The midwife said that once I start to feel movement that would be a more reliable sign that all is well. Not felt anything apart from ligament pain so far though!

That sounds like a very frustrating cycle ConeyIsland. I can understand why you're relieved to have AF now. One of my early SO Cycles was ridiculously long too but then went back to normal. I was using a mooncup for quite a while. My advice to you, as a new user, is make sure you sufficiently trim the stem or you could end up with some very uncomfortable chafing!

I'm ok after my tumble but have a huge bruise down the side of my leg! Pretty tender around the bottom of my uterus but I'm guessing that's from jarring the tendons, or maybe just coinciding with some stretching.

ConeyIslandBaby · 07/11/2012 19:45

kittens know what you mean about the chafing! There's a fine line between taking enough off so it doesn't chafe, but leaving enough on to be able to get hold of it when you need to! I'm sure I'll get used to it, not sure I could manage a public loo yet though.

Love a nice bruise on the leg, I always seem to have them (accident prone and clumsy) Grin Hope the tenderness eases, I'm sure that's down to stretching at 18 weeks along. Things must be growing at quite a pace down there!

Havingkittens · 07/11/2012 20:03

You don't need all that much stem to get hold of actually. If you can bear down you can pretty much squeeze the narrow point of the actual cup with, perhaps a Centimetre or so of stem. Takes a bit of experimenting at first!

PQ77 · 09/11/2012 16:29

kittens hope you are ok after your fall? Btw I spotted a poster on MN the other day called "havingkitties" - is someone is ripping you off?!

Havingkittens · 09/11/2012 17:39

Hi PQ, yeah, I'm OK thanks. Just a very large bruise on my thigh.

I guess someone wanted to call themselves havingkittens and discovered it was taken so had to vary it. I don't know if you're familiar with the term as it's probably typically British, but it means 'getting hysterical'.

MistressIggi · 09/11/2012 18:09

I had assumed that poster was you kittens . Glad you are recovering from your fall (and the shock that goes with it!)
Your midwife is right that movements will replace doppler in terms of reassurance. Though sometimes I liked both!
PQ how are things going now?

In a week today my own miracle baby will be 6 months - still think I'm going to wake up sometimes.

freelancegirl · 10/11/2012 20:49

Hello, nice to see Iggi and PQ popping in to. Good to hear you're ok after the fall kittens. I fell down a few stairs when around 35 weeks. Like the others say it is all v cushioned in there. And I definitely got a lot of weird twinges all the way through. If you think about it, your body has to do a hell of a lot of growing.

Iggi I can't believe your little one is 6 months! And PQ it's so good everything is going well with you. Are you out and about a bit now? I've had a v difficult few weeks as juggling work but hopefully have some days free between now and Xmas, would love to see you!

Hello to everyone else and lots of love to you all xx

Havingkittens · 12/11/2012 12:22

Hello, where is everybody these days? I have to admit I don't post as much as I used to because I don't see much from any of the others who are pregnant so it doesn't feel like the "community" it used to be. I understand those who are struggling with TTC not wanting to be on this thread for a spell. I went through the same myself, which is sort of another reason I don't post much as I don't want to make people feel Sad either.

Mind you, I do need a bit of a grumble. We've started telling people about the pregnancy over the last couple of weeks. It's starting to show anyway so it's easier to come clean. I've mentioned to a couple of people that it's been a bit of a struggle to get to this point and that I've lost a good few before now and somehow this makes them want to show their empathy and understanding of my losses by telling me that their friend/family member etc had a stillborn. I mean, really? WTF? I've just started to relax about possible miscarriage, got past the CVS etc. just got the anomaly scan to get my knickers in a twist about next week and somehow people think that reminding me that it could all still go horribly wrong is a good idea Hmm. That's when they are not somehow compelled to tell me their pregnancy or labour horror stories!

Clabbage · 12/11/2012 17:13

Hi All.
Hk.. People are strange aren't they? I remember when I told someone that I had lost my first child to cot death, they told me (with my newborn in my arms) that her friend had lost 2 to cot death. Bizarre reassurance!

I am currently ttc. My last mc was due to trisomy 16. I guess it's good to have a reason for it. It was two years ago yesterday that I lost (at 12 weeks) the first of the five pregnancies I have lost since having my Ds (2 before). If you had told me then what lay ahead, I think I would have called it quits. I find it hard to believe that we are still 'trying'.

abney how are you doing?
kittens you are really blazing the trail for the long term 'triers' especially I would imagine for those who don't have dc's...YET!

Would love to hear news from those currently missing in action.
Love to all x

GreenOlives · 12/11/2012 18:43

Hello all.
I am still lurking and keeping up to date with what's happening. I guess Im not posting much now because now all the drugs have stopped I am trying my hardest to be a "normal" pregnant person! If there is such a thing after prolonged TTC and recurrent miscarriage! Im 25+3 today and starting to get a sizeable bump, feeling loads of movement which is really reassuring. I still have to pinch myself sometimes as I can't quite believe I've got a real live baby wiggling round inside me! I've got my first growth scan in 3 weeks time (DS was a whopper!) so im looking forward to the seeing baby again.
Sending lots of love and luck to all.

Arianrhod · 12/11/2012 21:09

Still around but lurking only as nothing worth posting about!

Delta10 · 13/11/2012 16:22

Hi all - I'm still lurking too but it has been very quiet. I am in the same boat as Olives - my dates make me 25+3 but the scan dates make me 26+1 which is the date they are using. I have a growth scan at the end of next week so just short of 28 weeks and am looking forward to seeing bubs again then. My bump has grown heaps in the last few weeks after a pretty slow start! Kittens Good luck with the anomaly scan, that seems to have come around really quickly (probably not to you!). Best of luck to everyone else x

sarahs999 · 13/11/2012 17:16

I'm still here too but posting more on the March antenatal club thread - have to admit I identify with wanting to have a 'normal' pregnancy too! I'm 24 weeks on Friday which is a big milestone of course. So far no pre-eclampsia signs and I'm feeling generally well apart from a rather painful stretching feeling in my upper stomach, which I guess is normal. Good luck to all. x

Hi all, only a little post, I've been on a break from ttc for a month after my last mc, and am about to try again. Feeling pretty despondent but am still catching up with all the news on here. Im so glad the pregnant ladies are all doing well, you give me lots of hope to keep going.

Having lost my son earlier this year I can completely empathise with how much other people can say such hurtful or stupid remarks, it can drive you crazy!

Hello to everyone xx

PQ77 · 14/11/2012 14:06

kittens yes people love to share an inappropriate story! People are so keen to show they empathise which is nice but sometimes it means they are not very good at listening - eg people hear that Ds was nearly 5lbs when he was born and then launch into a story about how that is massive compared to xyz's baby and then fail to hear the bit about the steroid injection not working and his lung collapsing (with these people I don't even bother to mention the fact he stopped breathing last month I just smile and say he's perfectly fine).

Managed to burst into tears at a breastfeeding "support" group yesterday as everyone kept on commenting on how small he was and felt so down that he's 9weeks and only 7lb. Slow progress. free just let me know when is good for you - I am usually free mornings. Breastfeeding.

People might not feel like it but there is a lot of empathy here from the pregnant people/ graduates for the ttc struggle (we are good listeners! Smile) Please do share.

Amongst others I would love to hear from scooter

brownstag · 14/11/2012 15:17

PQ, I remember all that so well with my DS. He was small too (although fortunately without the complications you've had), and my advice would be to compare him only to himself: block out all those other thumping great babies at the weigh-ins! I've always said to myself if I'm lucky enough ever to have another baby I would really try to chill out about centiles and breastfeeding (I was totally obsessed about how much was going in and out and how rubbish I was at breastfeeding). It all comes right in the end and you don't need to put any pressure on yourself. My son is still skinny and probably always will be but he's been healthy since. I just remember when I told Mr Shehata about the scan I had done abroad at 26 weeks which showed my placenta was 'attentuated' and he said that was the cause of his small size and it could easily have ended as a stillbirth. I'm just so grateful he's here.
