Trying to conceive thread Number 2

Hi Girls,

I thought I'd start a new thread the old one was getting a bit long.

I am feeling a lot more relaxed this month. We have been BD'ing but more for the fun of it than for babymaking. DH (bless him) has bought me a separate present for each the 12 days of Xmas - one a day. He has bought me some lovely things - which are very useful in "getting us in the mood"...

I am such a lucky girl!

Here's hoping Santa is kind to us all...

Hi VG, good to have you join us. Cant help more with the sperm count I'm afraid, dh has sperm of steel , it's me who is the problem (dont ovulate and have miscarried twice). But, 4 months isnt a long time. How old are you?

ermentrude · 19/01/2004 19:41

What is the book called, Bunny?
I would be interested to know. At the moment, things are still reasonably relaxed in terms of ttc but I envisage a 'long haul' so to speak after last time.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Out of interest, are most people on this thread trying to conceive their first child or are there afew of us trying for their second?

bunny2 · 19/01/2004 19:45

I'm ttc No2. I conceived ds very easily, then conceived again very easily but miscarried. Have since miscarried again following a Clomid conception.

The book (I should be on commission) is "Natural Solutions to Infertility; how to increase your chances of conceiving and preventing miscarriage" by Marilyn Glenville Phd.

ermentrude · 19/01/2004 19:49

thanks for that - just lloked it up and found this website of hers.....I presume that you knew aboutit....?

valleygirl · 19/01/2004 19:50

haven't got to stage of taking temperatures or anything like that, just wanted all the info i possibly can get so that physically at least he and i are as healthy and ready as possible!
it's nice to be part of a commnity though!

cazzybabs · 19/01/2004 20:04

Have just found out i am pregnant with 2nd (I think!!! - how I laughed at M2T with all her tests and now I am thinking I shall do one tomoroow and one the next day). It was a bit of surpirse as this was the 1st month we have not been using OPK and had actually decided that maybe having another baby was not such a good idea as on Weds have interview for midwifery course. OH well - am unsure wether to do. BF thinks I should go for practice and can alwats defer for a year. And the other reason I am bit embrassed is because on Sat I ran into my community midwife for dd and who is bound to be my midwife this year, and told her I was planninng to train to be a midwife starting in Sept 2004 and now I will be busy doing other things.

Sorry for rambling - am in a state of shock.

bunny2 · 19/01/2004 20:06

Ermentrude, I didnt know about that site. Good link, thanks.

bunny2 · 19/01/2004 20:08

Congratulations CB. That's wonderful news. Stuff the career (well, for now anyway, enjoy being pregnant, you have plenty of time for college in a few years).

M2T · 20/01/2004 08:37

Cazzybabs.... I ended up doing 8 tests in total.... and if I had anymore I'd be doing them too.

Congratulations. And don't worry about the MW course.... in the grand scale of things a year isn't all that long. It's what I want to do too and feel that I've waited this long to find a career path that I feel I will love, so no matter when in my life I finally do it, at least the decision is made to do it.... IYKWIM.

Good luck EVERYONE else!

BigBird · 20/01/2004 10:33

funny you should be chatting about coffee. I cut down rather than out. 1-2 cups a day. Should I cut it out ???

I was reading yesterday that a cup of coffee before bding can help the little swimmers get to their destination !

The way I see it - everything in moderation...(alcohol, coffee, chocolate etc) as if I had to be on a strict regime of none of these things I would go mad altogether !!!

fisil · 20/01/2004 11:03

Congrats CB!

Told dp last night he should cut down on coffee and hot baths. Don't think it had any effect ... in fact only about an hour later he tried to talk me into having a bath with him!

bunny2 · 20/01/2004 11:04

Me too BB, there has to be a bit of give and take! The more I read the more conflicting advice I get. Who knows. When I conceived ds I smoked and drank like a fish yet I fell pg with him unexpectedly (yes, I did stop smoking immediately on finding out). Now I dont smoke and drink much less but have had real problems conceiving. Go figure!

bluestar · 20/01/2004 14:01

Still waiting for ovulation! Last 3 cycles have been regular 31-33 days with obvious temp shift but this one is going on and on. Had a temp dip and then 4 days of same temp but then temp dropped again. Started to build up again so hoping that this time, I will ovulate. Looking for about a 38 cd this month and have been bding alot (6 days out of 9) not sure how long we can keep going!! Last month we gave up too early so am determined to keep going until it looks as if I've defintely ov'd. I read somewhere once that your temp can even out just prior to dipping and then rising. Anyone else heard this? Did have strong cramps/ov pain last night (like trapped wind) and had this last month at ov time, so hoping that we can have a rest from ttc bd soon. How's everyone else getting on this month?

Quackers · 20/01/2004 15:50

Huge congrats CB!!!!!
Bluestar. You can certainly get a dip/drop the day of ovulation, I always did and knew that was the day to do it and it succeded fortunately, but not everyone gets a dip. Have you been monitoring CM/cervical position?

BeckiF · 21/01/2004 14:38

The increasing length of my irregular cycles is SO getting me down! Now on day 101 and still no AF. I've done 4 PG so far all with the same single lined answer....NO! Still on the Metformin and have made more moves to decrease calories! Can't help but being incredibly jealous of you ladies who have monthly cycles and therefore 12 chances a year to conceive! I guess it's only natural for me to feel this way

pollingfold · 21/01/2004 14:50

Blue star

There is really good advice on temping on fertility friends dot com. If your temp was broadly consistent for the first half of your period and then rose for 3 days, it is likely that you ov'd. the dip and then rise in temps again may just be a one off reading.

I understand long cycles beckif, although obviously not to the extent of yours, mine ranged between 35 - 56 days, and you definitely feel cheated somehow of the chance to have a go

Keep at - literally

oooops

ermentrude · 21/01/2004 20:23

Is this the thermometer that I need for charting my temperatures?

bluestar · 21/01/2004 21:45

I did use fertility friend before and have just re-entered all my data since my mc last year. Another temp today to add to my flat line. I do think I have ov'd in the last couple of days so just waiting for temp to shift that bit more so I know for sure. Just wish it would happen!

BigBird · 22/01/2004 09:31

yes Ermentrude - thats the one I have too.

bluestar · 22/01/2004 10:22

Got the shift this morning so hopefully now moving onto the 2ww.

nicki1 · 22/01/2004 13:17

I have a daughter who's three and a half and me and my hubby have decided to try for another baby. So i have come off pill and have resumed a very active S-- life!! I came off the pill to conceive my daughter and it happened very easily, i was pregnant in the second month of coming off the pill. Do you think it will happen again as quickly. Although hubby works away with work, so may not be so quick this time

Quackers · 22/01/2004 13:34

Good luck Bluestar, I'm rooting for you!! Great getting your shift!!! I used temping and it worked a treat!!!

bluestar · 22/01/2004 13:47

Thanks Quackers.

nicki1, always keep in your mind that it may take longer than planned. I got pg very quickly with ds1, then took 8 months to get pg again, which sadly resulted in mc, then started ttc again. Hoping I will get there soon, never thought it would be this difficult though. Wish you loads of luck.
