BFP in 2012- a thread for winkling-advice and COD-avoidance!

So... here we are!
In a positive move to avoid monthly heartache this is the thread where we'll ttc in 2012.

"will there be winkling?" of course!
"will there be tinkling?" too right! you filthy buggers
"will there be time in the COD?" probably- but it'll only be short lived!
"will there be BFPs?" YES YES YES!

I, wishfulthinking, promise to ttc with all my might. I accept that ttc is a long, drawn out process and I shant allow myself to become too obsessed with the process in 2012. (if I remain in-duffed at new year, however, I reserve the right to be right royally pissed off with life and everyone in general!)

Not feeling too bad. Preg symptoms have more or less gone apart from the sore boobs and feeling a bit tired. They are prob just a premenstrual thing though.

I am 11 dpo today and got a bfn yesterday so am pretty sure this one isn't the month. The main thing that got my hopes up was I had a tiny bit if implantation spotting at 8 dpo. I had it before with my two chem pregs so it kind of got my hopes up.

Yes scan this thur, I still have mild of symptoms but it's hard to really tell if I'm not just making them up, I've never really had pg symptoms last 2 times so funnily enough this is the first time I've had it, had a cry to my mum ( I know I'm 33!!) but feal abit better, there is literally nothing I can do apart from wait and see, I think work us the hardest bit as not sure if/ when it could happen if it does or how bad it would be

Red- I know how you feel with dtd, you have covered good ground I think aparently the first few days before ov are more beneficial then the later ones, with dd we only dtd the day of opk + as ill and it worked plus last time only 2 times that month, dh had broken wrist so it can only take one but the thing is if you leave it just say that's it dont resist then berate your self after, there's no point thinking well we could have dtd ever day we should have, it's no fun and no one wants to feel like they have to!
Nicola sore boobs are positive sign if you don't usually get that, I never do but in pg and it is a weird like itching feeling, I really do believe your chances are always there until af appears as my + wasn't until 6 days late, numerous bfn and my dates never really made sence even now

If are boobs are pregnancy related, you will get a positive test

otherwise, its just progesterone

I reckon you should be fine. There is no point in forcing the issue :)

Sperm lasts about 3 days. The egg should drop within 3-5 days of the positive OPK.

IF it doesn't drop, you will get another surge later in the cycle and the egg may potentially drop then.

Good to know I'm overloaded with progesterone this month then. For the first EVER time in my life, it would appear. Not the best time to decide to make an appearance.

Kitty my mum told me the other day that she continued to have her period up to 6 mths when carrying my sister. As mad as it sounds it's possible to continue bleeding. My sister is fine btw. Thought I'd share to help your nerves :)

Kitty I know its impossible but try not to make yourself sick with worry. Bleeding can be bad but it can also be nothing. I guess thu feels like ages away but we are here for you!

Nicola I spoke to the nurse today because I've never had anything happen with my boobs. Like you said the other day, they are there for my DH else they wouldn't have any other purpose.

They have been SO sore the past 4 months. I can't touch them. My nipples were itchy and burny the last 2 months. It's just so strange! I asked the nurse if I could have a progesterone test because I swear it must be building in my system.

Plus with the random bawling for the passed couple days. So weird.

When is AF due and when can you test?

Sorry to read about bad time on here. Kitty I've been where you are and limbo land is the worst place to have to spend time. Fx for you on Thurs. When, we're still in with a shot! Keep hoping.

AF was due either Sat, Sun or today. Nothing though. No AF. BFN. All a bit frustrating really.

Nicola I've got high hopes for you. Itchy boobs and sore boobs is almost always the no1 tell tell sign of a looming BfP. It's not over until who arrives?? If it's not BFP then you're stuck on a boat with me...worse things in life

Do you know when you got the smiley face? Remember that IF the egg does drop, it can drop 3 - 5 days after the first detected smiley face.

If you have some disruption or other and the egg doesn't drop, you can have the surge later and potentially drop the egg again.

A anovulatory cycle is even though you get a surge, the egg doesn't drop.

So with that stuff, you can ovulate later than you think. What potentially happens then is two things:

a) You catch the egg the second time around. This means that you will get a later BFP (this is the reason some women get a BPF at "18 DPO" - because they didn't ovulate when they thought they did and they caught the egg later than they thought.

b) You expect your AF to arrive 12 - 16 days after the positive smiley face but if the egg doesn't drop, it won't. A delayed dropped egg is the SOLE reason for why you would have a late AF (apart from the obvious). You can't push your AF out by being stressed around the time of AF. It all happens at ovulation.

Remember that a luteal phase that is either too long or too short is NOT good. And largely, your luteal phase is based on when the egg drops.

And lastly - we have NO idea when the egg actually drops (or if it does!). They can do tests and monitor it but when we are monitoring at home with just EWCM or OPK's, we cannot see when the egg drops.

And just so you know - that's why they won't "take your word for it" on when you conceive. Because realistically speaking, you don't know.

It's more reliable for them to count from when your last AF was...

kick you always make me nervous when you say the egg can drop 3-5 days after the surge. I always assume it is about 24 hours after the surge, I guess I should be dtd for longer than I have been.

Wow Kick you're so knowledgable. Are you secretly a doctor, is there something we should know?

The reason for that is because the surge can last from 3 hours - 72 hours (very rare to hit 3 days but it can happen).

After the surge, the egg can drop from 12 hours - 48 hours after the surge (normal is 36 hours)

Note that the egg may not drop when you expect it. Someone was asking why they had a LH surge later on in the cycle - related to either PCOS (random cycles) or that they hadn't dropped the egg earlier in their cycle.

The egg survives for 24 hours.

So taking in the total amount of "fertile time" - the minimum you can be fertile is about 40 hours (from LH surge to "dead" egg)

The maximum time you can be potentially be fertile for is 6 or 7 days after the first detected LH surge (based on the assumption that the egg will drop when you think it does)

I have a control freak problem...

When I'm a coward and I won't test until I'm sure it'll be what I want to see; so in about 7 days . After getting BFPs for weeks after m/c, I actually hate POASing so avoid if I can. Puts me in a minority, I know, but I try to think what will be will be...as matters stand AF a day late so who knows???

resipsa can understand your aversion to poas. I am pretty convinced my bfn was accurate so will wait for af to arrive on Friday.

Sorry - there is a lot of information out there that needs sort of...sifting through.

A bunch of stuff obviously matters but that's pretty much why I always said that it's about DTD EOD (or every third day) because we never know when the egg drops.

Anyway, DH and I are going balls to the walls next month. I told him I want to be pregnant next month. I am going to take every fucking conceivable shit and I'm making us run (not cycle) and putting his balls on ice and making sure his sperm is regenerated. I've started him on Zinc as well and will look into what aids sperm and get that sorted. Then taking EPO and alkaline powder, won't drink booze, alcohol etc etc all month.

Then see. Shew. I am going to be one UNHAPPY Guru next month when I get a BFN after all that
