TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

It is difficult to know how far to take what you can and cant eat when ttc. I know I have guilt over some things. I just dont want to go Babyzilla!

8 weeks, how cute! Takes the pressure off. I have nieces and nephews but they are all a bit older. Family is looking at us next!

Pinkie29 · 03/06/2012 09:17

I had a little cry when me and my neice were alone Smile she smiled at me ha!

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 09:22

I'm not going to stop eating red meat...just make sure it is cooked properly.

It's a great source of iron, after all!

Someone stop me symptom spotting. It's so not likely I'm pregnant I need to get a grip!

Leftwingharpie · 03/06/2012 10:06

Pinkie that's lovely, I know what you mean I've had some almost weepy moments with my friend's baby, particularly when I put her down in her cot for the night in her little nursery! You can't help but think if only I had one of my own.

Leftwingharpie · 03/06/2012 10:09

Not a cot of my own you understand, a baby! Grin

It did look comfy, mind!

KickingUpQuestions · 03/06/2012 10:53

Haha leftwing

i have heard red meat is good? In fact, apparently its good to strengthen your body?

I have not and will not change my lifestyle while ttc. I don't believe in removing any food group from my diet

the only thing is that i have gone off booze a bit so havent had a drnk in ages.

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 11:01

Ha ha, Leftwing, a cot will also come if you have a baby though, so all bases will be covered! ;-p

I'm with you, Kicking, not changing my lifestyle at all...and not eating for 2. I want a neat bump!

I've cut down on alcohol as well. Not that I drank loads, but only 1 or 2 units a week. I'm not missing it particularly.

KickingUpQuestions · 03/06/2012 11:06

Yet same nicola. I am making sure i keep my training up so i won't have problems training when am pregnant.

Apparently your muscles soften so you can only carry on doing something rather than starting something New.

And am taking supplements.

But that's all i am doing something :)

Pinkie29 · 03/06/2012 11:13

I've never understood the 'eating for two' I eat a very healthy diet most of the time we rarely have takeaways or junk etc it's crazy how big some women get in pregnancyHmm

I had to laugh in the supermarket yesterday I was literally being stalked by 3 pregnant women who must have had similar lists to me, got to the check out and the woman in front had such a neat bump she looked like she'd swallowed a football! Even caught the checkout assistant having a chuckle!

DulcetMoans · 03/06/2012 11:14

Had to post about the fear bit a few of you mentioned! We were going to start in July but moved it forward to... Well, now! Once that decision was made I started being scared of everything. I can't control all the crazy thoughts! Good to hear its normal though... Isn't it!!

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 11:14

Hmmm...maybe I should get back on the cross trainer now then as I haven't been on in ages.

I was on it loads last year to lose weight quickly (2 stone in 15 weeks!) but am out of the habit now. Even a little every week would do!

Good to see somebody else thinking the same as me though. :-)

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 11:18

That's funny, Pinkie, and our diet is mostly really healthy with the odd treat added in. I couldn't stand being huge through over-eating. A girl at work put over 5 stone on! That seems to be a lot to me. Football bump for the win!

Hi Dulcet. I'm scared of everything too...from conception onwards! Think it must be common, even if a lot of people don't mention it.

Kittenkatzen · 03/06/2012 11:47

5 stone ShockShock that's half my body weight Shock football bump ftw indeed!

Hi to the newbies!

nicola get yourself over to the no symptom spotting thread for a quick dose of sensible score you drive yourself mad! :)

I agree with you all about being slightly terrified about the reality of TTC.....especially labour and birth itself as I'm a bit of a wimp!

Well I celebrated AFs arrival on Friday by getting absolutely trashed slightly tipsy, so yesterday's beer festival ended up being quite a sedate affair! Will obviously be behaving for the rest of the month though :)

Ahhh there's a wedding party leaving a house over the road from me, lovely :)

Kittenkatzen · 03/06/2012 11:48

before you drive yourself mad

Stupid iPhone!

MumOfTwoCats · 03/06/2012 11:57

TTC has made my lifestyle a little healthier to be honest! Eating more veggies and exercising. I was starting to gain a little weight anyway. Lost a little already!

Its very wet here! Rained loads overnight!

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 12:02

Hi Kitten...I know I need sense drilling into me, but I'm a nightmare generally. With everything! I'll just keep it to myself :-) Or try to.

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 12:05

Oh, and we all need a good session every now and then. And fiesta day of ERTD is perfect! :-)

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 12:05

First day...crap typing on phone!

DulcetMoans · 03/06/2012 14:59

I've read bits about the weight gain too but it's really inconsistent. Saw some people seem to gain loads and some either say the lose weight when they are pregnant. Dunno what to expect! Just try be as healthy as poss I guess and no eating for two!!

Pinkie29 · 03/06/2012 15:23

I know a few who gained a lot but tbh they used being pg as an excuse to eat rubbish Sad

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 15:30

Me too. You only need an extra 200 calories per day, for the last trimester only.

I'll just spread the fruit I normally have at lunch through the day as snacks. That should keep my sugar levels up as I don't generally snack at work.

KickingUpQuestions · 03/06/2012 15:45

I think if i was vomiting like shit for the first three months and the only thing i could keep down is unhealthy, then that's what happens

remember your body goes off food and you get cravings and your sense of smell heightens and you have no idea how your body responds

i hope i stay healthy but i have no idea what my body would do

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 15:50

True, but that hasn't been the reason for the people I know eating crap, they've just used pregnancy as an excuse to get fat!

KickingUpQuestions · 03/06/2012 16:03

Oh yet that's silly. It makes it hard as well the more weight you carry.

I don't agree with eating for two either. Unless its salad!

NicolaHazel · 03/06/2012 16:05

I know...as well as the risk of diabetes. Daft.

I could eat salad for 50, love it!! :-)
