TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

Popinda

Remember that all pregnancy symptoms are caused by the pregnancy hormone. You can't have the pregnancy hormone unless you implant and you typically should be able to start testing for the pregnancy hormones at 13DPO and carry on until 19DPO.

Any before 13DPO is typically AF symptoms.

When the placenta starts to release the pg hormone and it tells your brain to stop AF, the pg hormones take over and start to increase.

If you aren't pg, your brain is told to carry on with AF and from 13DPO, progesterone will decrease. Progesterone is responsible for all those "pg symptoms" and progesterone increases in your body and peaks at 10DPO. If you are pregnant, progesterone will continue increasing - as will the HcG hormone.

If you're not pregnant, progesterone will begin to decrease and AF should arrive a few days later.

Basically that means that you should only symptom spot from 13DPO :)

nicola hurray for your spreadsheet :o but boo to credit card fraud, what a PITA, hope you get it sorted quickly

popinda if only it was as easy as just getting DH to drop his kecks so you could take a look haha! But sadly it's not, and our bodies do like to play tricks on us at these times - so I agree with kicking, if AF is late to arrive then take the test to find out for sure.

oh and kicking I think you made a good point yesterday - it would be infinitely worse if our DHs fell to pieces and obsessed over every twinge/cramp every month too, so a little bit of reserve is probably a good thing :)

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 09:54

Yeh bless them. Mine is so excited, he can't contain it. He wants to buy a little England Olympic baby grow from M&S this weekend.

But when it comes down to the 2ww when I go absolutely nuts, he turns into Mr Practical and tries to not add anything to my insanity

:)

NicolaHazel · 23/05/2012 10:07

I'm going to try not to mention it to my H2B until I'm pregnant...don't want him to suffer performance anxiety!! :-)

I'm also going to try to relax and nor get too scientific about it too soon.

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 10:14

Good plan Nicola

Seriously though - last month, I had every symptom under the sun

And I wasn't pregnant.

So I decided that we torture ourselves. We notice every single bump and groan and attribute it to pregnancy. We somehow forget that we experience the same feelings all month but we ignore them until we hit the 2ww

And seriously, there is nothing that you can do until 13DPO because you won't have even implanted so there is no way you can even be pregnant! So try not to torture yourself until you miss your AF. Once your AF is missed, you know you've implanted, you know your body sent those signals to your brain to stop menstruation and better yet, you know you won't get a chemical pregnancy.

And statistically, you should have a positive pregnancy test on the day AF is due (98%).

Those "I know someone who tested positive 2 weeks AFTER missed AF" - they do happen.

But they are the exception. Not the rule.

So try to ignore those as well because they give you false hope.

Only saying because I spent two days sobbing after I had my AF on Wednesday last week and that was from the "I've got every symptom and I feel a twinge and my cervix is doing a morris dance and I swear my uterus is doing summersaults" and it really wasn't.

Kittenkatzen · 23/05/2012 10:22

excellent plan nicola I think I might join you on that - from now on in RL i shall be a picture of serenity and composure and then i'll come on here and be a pregnancy obsessed symptom spotting maniac in secret

:o

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 10:32

I want to start a "No Symptoms, No Google, No sticks" thread where we support each other in TTC but we don't encourage insane symptom spotting because I think that makes it REALLY hard

Pinkie29 · 23/05/2012 10:34

Do it kicking!!!! I'm staying off google too! MN only!

NicolaHazel · 23/05/2012 10:44

Ha ha kitten....mentalist behaviour restricted to MN. Deal?!

MissMedusa · 23/05/2012 10:51

DH got his check up done today and was given the full meal deal. Cupwanking, bollocksfondling and a finger up the butt for good measure. He was very apprehensive about it but now that it's over he's fine and even making jokes about it. I'm relieved that he finally did it as it took some convincing to make him go. We should have the results by Saturday.

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 10:52

Oooh fingers crossed missmedusa

My DH has promised to go if we don't get lucky in 3 months time

I've started the thread :D

EllieBuffalo · 23/05/2012 11:24

Thanks for the symptom spotting post kicking, I loved it. I'm currently on AF and due start TTC for the first time this month and I'm already starting to worry about understanding symptoms. I've never been the best at reading my body, I tend to think things are happening because I want them to. I must focus on the arrival of AF only. I will avoid google etc so I don't start getting carried away (which is completely my nature)! Thanks for inspiration!!

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 11:26

DTD every other day Ellie.

It seems to be the most reliable and the one thing that every parent I've spoken to has told me.

"Catching" ovulation isn't enough. You need to be full to the brim with swimmers all through the month :D

Kittenkatzen · 23/05/2012 11:37

nicola we have a deal :o

good luck for your DHs results missmedusa fx

kicking there is a thread that i'm also on that's similar to the one you have suggested already - it tries to focus on the FUN side of TTC although the odd bit of symptom spotting does creep in occasionally. It's here if anyone wants to come across and join

that said, i'm off to mark my spot on your new thread too - don't want to miss out!

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 11:39

Is that the Just Shagging one? I did post on that one but they do symptom spotting as well :D

I want one that only focuses on what we know FOR SURE

But will hop there as well again :D

NicolaHazel · 23/05/2012 11:40

I may not be taking this seriously enough, but I'm so tired during the week that I'm just considering both weekend days and Wednesday too. Should still have swimmers around all the time!

mrsbugsywugsy · 23/05/2012 11:56

Nicola I cam off the pill at Christmas and we used the 'withdrawal method' for a while. Then we had one month of not doing that, but not bothering to try to time anything and only DTD about once a week. Then another month of 'active trying' by which I mean DTD every other day around ovulation, from about day 9 to day 20. Which worked!

I think Kicking is right. I honestly don't think I had any unusual symptoms till around 14 or 15 DPO, that I could distinguish from normal PMS. When I started spotting on 14DPO I really thought it was AF. I felt very tired, but was studying every evening after work so that's to be expected. Then on 16 DPO I cried uncontrollably about something silly, like PMS only more so. Then the next morning I had my BFP.

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 12:01

mrsbugsy - this is my desperate symptom question: but what would you recommend?

  • Monitor OV and try catch it? OR
  • DTD as much as possible up to EOD for a few weeks a month?

We have tried to catch OV. We've saved up our deed doing for the week that I should OV but we never catch it. 9 months down the line and my DH said we are binning the sticks. So I said we need to make the effort to DTD EOD.

That's making us both happy but I feel a lot more confident about this route. The other way stressed me out massively.

Pinkie29 · 23/05/2012 12:34

Lol & cup wanking Grin

I feel sick... Symptom?!?! Haha

mrsbugsywugsy · 23/05/2012 13:01

Kicking we weren't using sticks or charting to monitor OV, but I did usually get cramps around that time which gave me a clue.

If you don't have any symptoms then you might OV earlier or later than standard. Could you try DTD every other day for a bit longer this month?

bugoven · 23/05/2012 13:06

kicking I would absolutely join that thread!! Brilliant idea Smile

Lulabells · 23/05/2012 13:33

Hi everyone. Please can I join you lot. I have been lurking in the background. I am 24 and DP is 25. I came off the pill 23rd of april and I am on CD28 and about to go insane! No symptoms and no AF. Too scared to POAS so I'm just sat here waiting. Anyone in a similar position!?? :)

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 13:57

Are you late for your AF yet? If so, POAS!! DAMMIT! :)

Pinkie29 · 23/05/2012 14:04

Test!!!

I just walked past mother care and got a twinge... Another symptom surely Grin

KickingUpQuestions · 23/05/2012 14:05
