cakey do a search on ebay - I got 30 tests for £2.65 including delivery.

pebspop · 15/05/2012 12:39

i can't understand how you could check secretly unless you go somewhere quiet and just have a look - thats whats i did in the field!!!

is that all it is???

i rang my consultants secretary today and she is going to get my referral letter done by next week. i also rang the private wing of liverpool hospital and they said i could book in with the main guy (mr farquarson) in a couple of weeks - should i ???? it would be £225 for the consultation so not bad really. they said if i need hysteroscopy i would be referred back to nhs for it so i wouldn't have to pay for that privately. i think it would be about £1500-£2000 if i could have it private.

i want to do it but i feel like i am always rushing things. although it will be two years at the end of this month since i started ttc and i haven't really got anywhere apart from a load of heartache. dh will probably say i am rushing things although the penny did drop for him this weekend that this has been going on for a long time and the next ttc session could still be months away so he might be keen on the idea.

PieMistress · 15/05/2012 12:48

I also used to publicly knicker check! Blush

MarthasHarbour · 15/05/2012 13:12

pebs you go with your heart, yes the head will always say that you are rushing things but, what is your gut reaction? my bet is that you want to make the appointment. especially if you wont have to pay for the hysteroscopy

Smile
MarthasHarbour · 15/05/2012 13:13

loving how you are all coming out of the woodwork with this public knicker checking Wink

MissCoffeeNWine · 15/05/2012 13:37

How to publicly knicker check:

  1. Carry loo roll or tissues
  2. Take out tissue pretend to wipe nose
  3. Shove the tissue down yer pants
  4. Remove tissue in one smooth movement
  5. Casually look at it as you fold it away in the plastic wrapper and bin it
  6. Wash hands with antibac gel if you feel it is required

Steps 3 and 4 require a good sense of timing, some guts and preferably you facing the wall or sitting with your legs under the desk But if you do it right it looks like nothing more than a quick garment shufty even if someone does happen to see.

If you suffer with pregnancy rhinitis like I do it's a perfect excuse for the tissues, and the antibac makes you look dead thoughtful trying not to pass on the cold everyone thinks you have which is why you look pretty rubbish and are so tired.

pebspop · 15/05/2012 13:40

jesus missc!! i don't think i could manage that!! will stick to pulling pants down in fields!!

i do want to book the appointment marth, i might ring them later as i have week off in early june so will see if they can see me then.

MissCoffeeNWine · 15/05/2012 13:47

You have to be brazen about it or it doesn't work Grin If you scuttle off to a guilty corner everyone will watch Grin if you Just Do It even if someone DID happen to catch a glimpse it's over so quickly they doubt their own perception and certainly never mention it.

It's the Ocean's Eleven principle of knicker checking. Do you have the ovaries to try it? Grin

oo00PIXIE00oo · 15/05/2012 14:33

Hi all - had mc confirmed yesterday scan two weeks ago was inconclusive - not quite ready to join in yet - just making sure I can find you later x

MumTumWanted · 15/05/2012 14:55

StateofConfusion · 15/05/2012 14:58

I'm sat here Grin tears running down my cheeks doing silent laughing, dp wants to know why, I can't tell him.

I cannot divulge public knicker checkers anonamous.

MandaHugNKiss · 15/05/2012 15:07

marff Mushroom is a fungus you divvy! I don't think glorified mould really counts as a vegetable (although I do likes me a mushroom).

So, I got the doctor to come out to her this morning. The rash is ridiculous now and so, so obviously measles... I like it when I'm right Grin although, actually, I'd much rather I was wrong and she was poorly with something minor instead of so ill with this crappy thing.

Anyway, just told to carry on as have been... just took her temp and it's 39.7. THe rash only just reaching her thighs and online resources seem to say that once it gets to her legs/feet that the fever should break. I hope it hurries up!

We've got (bloody expensive) tickets to see THriller Live tonight. AM I awful to still go? She doesn't need active nursing the whole time, but obviously feels vulnerable as she wants to be near me (ie, on the sofa in the noisy living room instead of in her darkened, quiet room...).

Bon Voyage, midge

whatcakeydid · 15/05/2012 15:37

Hello. My aunt just sent me this
make-everything-ok.com/
Didn't work!

whatcakeydid · 15/05/2012 16:26

I think you guys call it Metalling....
Got period pain type cramps all day.... Why? ERPC 11/2 weeks ago.
So tired. Eaten everything in sight.
Any advice?

MrsPear · 15/05/2012 17:17

Hi everyone

Brain is in a fog today.

whatcakeydid could af be returning. I bled for over a month with my last mc then 1 week after it stopped af returned. Fabulous!

i second martha pebs and go with your heart and what you can afford.

martha glad your Monday went OK and you liked the reversal idea

My hip well the doctor says it is a combination of being a mum to a toddler and things stretching - it has got better as in it is not such agony.

Sorry that more ladies find themselves here

JaffaSnaffle · 15/05/2012 17:28

Been smiling at public knicker checking! Thank you for all your kind thoughts, especially oneday. I hope you had a good break.

I am having a lovely time on my holidays. It has done me the world of good to get away. I am hoping when I get back, I'll have a date for my 16 week scan. I think that will be a huge milestone for me and my metalling ways.

Sorry about your DD Manda. I hope you are late and the measles and newborn don't collide.

Waves to everyone x

Midgetm · 15/05/2012 17:34

On the way to the airport. MissC I salute you. Approach number 2 requires no tissue so slightly more gross but better than metalling... Hand into pants (round the back or front. (you choose, it's versatile), quick finger wipe, then wipe into the back of hand or wrist. I like wrist. Seems somehow more Hygienic (ahem) End of metalling. This approach is held in reserve for when no other options available and sudden dampness causes sky rocketing levels of metalling. Glad I'm leaving the Country, the shame.

pixie sorry you found yourself here. Cone back when you are ready For us x

tasmaniandevilchaser · 15/05/2012 18:28

AT LAST! the secret of public knicker checking revealed in all its glory!!! I remember midget mentioning it a long time ago and then going very quiet about it. I actually thought you were leaving the country to avoid revealing your secret!!!

And no I don't have the ovaries to try it! Though maybe sitting at a desk might work. Knowing my luck I'll get my hand stuck in my trousers and it'll all become very undignified!

manda Sorry your DD is so poorly. But enjoy thriller tonight, I'd leave DD (she's a teenager right?). Hope you have a lovely calm peaceful birth. (but not tonight at Thriller)

leedy · 15/05/2012 19:04

I am also laughing like a drain at the serious technical instructions for public knicker checking.

No knickerwatch here, though that's almost solely because I seem to have spent every waking minute having my blood pressure checked. Annoyingly/as usual the blood pressure clinic midwife is fairly "ah sure I've seen worse" about it while the random non-bp-specialist doctors that come to sign you out of the clinic keep doing the FACE OF CONCERN and muttering about getting an early start on beta-blockers. Tomorrow I get to have a machine strapped to me for 24 hours, beeping randomly. Oh, and I have a chest infection. Joy. Still it is all distracting me from the prospect of my NT scan next week.

WhyAlwaysBoris · 15/05/2012 19:35

Hello everyone,

welcome pixie and yikes, sorry you find yourself here.

manda your poor dd, i hope those spots reach the extremities soon!

Knicker-checking- Oh my goodness. Sometimes i don't think i'm grown up enough for this thread.

whatcakeydid, my first 3 months after my MC my periods were heavier and more painful, could your cramp be a nasty AF about to appear?

Pebs do what you feel in your heart. Two years is a hell of a long time. I'm so sorry about that.

Well, no phonecall from the consultant's secretary.

Possibly she has a different understanding of "I'll ring you tomorrow" than I did.
Sigh.
Will phone again tomorrow.

bonzo77 · 15/05/2012 20:03

welcome yikes and pixie: more support and humour here on ttc and mc than anywhere else.

cakey cramps most likely AF on her way. My periods were definitely different after the erpc, lighter but longer, less painful, but I'm sure it's different for everyone.

mrspear I'm please your hip is feeling less awful, one less thing to worry about.

bonzo77 · 15/05/2012 20:08

Bollocks, posted too soon...

whyalwaysboris these secretaries are useless. I'm also a clinician and somehow manage to make the important phone calls, especially when I know someone is anxious, our receptionist on the other hand.... really irritating and reflects badly.

leedy sorry you are running from pillar to post with the BP, I'm sure its for the best. It's important that your BP is compared not only to what is normal for the rest of the population but also with what is normal for you. As mine is on the low side, what is high for me and need attention might actually still be low for other people.

Public knicker checking...interesting, not one I have tried yet, but so often tempted. I am so wet at the moment I do have to check quite a lot. Which is ironic because the bleeding when my mc started was so minimal that had I not actually seen it I would not have noticed it IYKWIM.

JoyfulJoyful · 15/05/2012 20:12

Hello Ladies

So sorry to read about mumtum, pixie, yikes, whatcakeydid and any other lady that has found herself here. Whenever I read about people's MCs, it takes me right back to the very minute I heard those words (sorry, it's bad news).....I do hope your pain is quickly replaced with joy.

Congratulations to all the ladies who just got BFPs....

Manda thank you for the advice you gave me weeks ago now, about combining vits in one rather taking seperate ones and not to take the thread back, you look absolutely fab in the Newlook ad. Sorry about your DD.

I haven't been on since as I have been having one Dr's appt after the other. When I had my MMC, it was noticed that my blood pressure was high and I have been undergoing various tests for it. Had an ECG that was borderline (whatever that means), now waiting for a kidney scan. To top it up, I really thought this month, I'd get a BFP but AF seems to have appeard a few hours ago which has left me so disappouinted AGAIN. I am now on antibiotics for inconclusive UTI. Been having a lingering pain on my right said for days now and been peeing so much in the last 24 hours so Dr thougth she'd better give me medication, just in case.

Enough of my long me post.

MissC and Midget, thank you for the big laugh after such a gloomy day.

Peb can't even imagine all you've been through. I pray you end up with a baby sooner than you even know.
