My friend who is now six months preg with twins through icsi had a similar prob with her DH. His sperm count was almost zero so they had given up hope. They went to zita west and had a full nutrition plan plus dh had acupuncture every week for three m

suemays · 30/05/2012 13:24

Stupid iPhone! I was saying her DH had acu for 3 months and it helped his sperm. They used Wrexham spire with lister for the transfer and it worked first time so there is still hope for you duggs . She is 40 and her DH is 42. They were given odds of around 10% so it didn't look promising.

kittens hope the hysteroscopy went ok.
ari hope you both manage to keep off the redundancy list - that's all you need.

I have got my first scan in two weeks on 14th june. I will be just over 7 weeks then but mr s is on hols next week.

duggs1976 · 30/05/2012 22:41

Ahh ladies what would life be like without you guys? Will research thank you x

Arianrhod · 31/05/2012 08:30

Morning ladies. duggs, it just occurred to me this morning - you had the hidden C test, yes? Doesn't that have to be done with menstrual blood - was that what you had to do? Was just thinking if I do go to Dr G for testing, wondering about the timing for that one.

picolina123 · 31/05/2012 08:33

ive been back less than a week and im exhausted, have been registering at agencies for temp wok and been doing all their tests! my muscles were so sore yesterday evening coz i was on the move all day yest, dont knw how im going to go back to work!

picolina123 · 31/05/2012 08:41

chronic steriod- it feels like i have this: its been nearly 3 months since i stopped steriods , and the sore muscles started after 1 week, i couldnt even excerise in oz with my sister due to how much worse i felt after exercise

Steroids, such as prednisone, have an important side effect in muscle deterioration. Associated with this are both acute and chronic steroid-induced myopathy. However, steroids also have powerful anti-inflammatory effects, and are therefore used in some autoimmune diseases that affect muscles. Thus, steroids are a double-edged sword: they can cause muscle pain, but may be useful in relieving some forms of it as well.

Chronic Steroid Myopathy

Steroids promote the breakdown of protein in muscles. Some individuals who take steroids for a long time can develop what is known as a muscle disease, or myopathy. Often, the proximal muscles, such as the muscles in the upper arms or the thighs are affected. Symptoms can occur after prolonged consumption of steroids and may occur within weeks to years after regular consumption. Patients often have weakness and an inability to perform activities such as rising from chairs, climbing stairs, or bringing their arms over their heads. The muscles of the chest, face feet and hands are usually not affected.

Acute Steroid Myopathy

Acute steroid myopathy is relatively less frequent than the chronic form. It is also known as "intensive care myopathy." The disease typically occurs five to seven days following a high dose of steroids. The myopathy affects all four limbs, causing quadriplegia. In addition, it can also affect the muscles of breathing, leading to a dangerous breathlessness. Affected individuals may need a respiratory in the event of breathing difficulty. Fortunately, most patients with this form of muscle disease recover completely.

duggs1976 · 31/05/2012 10:43

Yes ari they give you a kit and a fed ex pack so u take it home. Fed ex pick it up and send off to Athens. Still waiting for results back on that one. Did it last Friday. Interesting moment Wink

freelancegirl · 31/05/2012 11:21

Hi Pico, it does sound to me suspiciously like you might have had a reaction to the steroids. A couple of other things - have you had your thyroid checked? Low thyroid levels can cause a lot of aches and pains very similar to steroid ones. I would say ask your GP to test TSH, T4 and T3 and also thyroid antibodies. And don't let them tell you the results are 'normal', come on here and let us look at the exact numbers for you! GPs often don't know what normal levels really should be, IME.

Duggs hope that info from Sue is helpful, certainly sounds interesting to me. Was also wondering whether it might be helpful for Pebbles.

It's an awful moment PQ when the gynaes start to feel a lot younger than you are! I can relate to that. I think I first had it when I was around 26 though! A girl that looked like she should be at school.

17th of June countdown hey Sue, you must be eyeing that date with trepidation! Goes so slowly, doesn't it. We all have our fingers crossed for you and are glad there are no bad signs at the moment.

Did I tell any of you I was doing some 'bump photos' to help out a local photographer the other day? Well, she has sent me them now and they are fab! If anyone wants to see them let me know and I will PM a link. I had to swallow any notions of 'jinxing' to do them so it was quite a bit step for me.

freelancegirl · 31/05/2012 11:32

In my unofficial role as Keeper of the List, I hereby update thee. Hey, there might be a time in the not so far future where I might be busy trying to rapidly learn some baby skills and might not have time for this sort of thing although I am likely to be sitting online just as much as normal and forgetting to pay attention to the baby

PQ have you got a date for a 20 week (ish) scan yet? Where are you going for this?

Haven't heard from Battery or Coley for a while, hope these 3rd trimester girls are doing well. And Frozen, Hopeful and Dunnit. Brownie who was around a lot in the beginning should surely be ready to give birth sometime soon. But I don't think we have heard from her since around the 20 week mark.

HelterSkelter hope you're feeling ok - do you have a date for a 12 ish week scan yet?

Hope all the Pred Babies are doing well too!

FrozenNorthPole · 31/05/2012 11:54

Dropping in with condolences for those who have suffered recent losses Sad, I'm very sorry that this has happened. It's just not fair, is it?

Thank you free for updating my details, I've been lurking and celebrating at the arrival of the thread babies Grin. At the point of viability today but still very worried about this baby coming too early to make it - having constant cramping and pressure but really have no idea whether it's changing things or not ... fingers crossed it's just Braxton Hicks' ctx starting earlier with each pregnancy.

Sorry for being missing in action - still v wary of assuming that this pregnancy will work out, plus I'm trying to tie up a big research project that is now two months past deadline (eeek!)

freelancegirl · 31/05/2012 12:18

Hi Frozen, great to hear from you. Congratulations on reaching viability. Every step like that is a great milestone. Sorry you are in some discomfort though, am sure it probably will be BH. When do you have another appointment? I always find they help the worry stop for a good day or so.

eurochick · 31/05/2012 12:24

free I'd love to see the photos. I think you have my hotmail address? If not, PM me on here please. :)

PQ77 · 31/05/2012 12:54

frozen if you are anxious about preterm labour, does your hosptial do fetal fibronectin testing? Slightly dodgy explanation here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetal_fibronectin . From what I have been told it is a bit more precise and a bit more sophistated than the wiki explanation! I am seeing the preterm clinic at my hospital evey four weeks from now until "the end" and this is one of the tests they do (the other being a cervical scan). I am part of a study which is why they are seeing me so often.

free - another vote for bump photos! And in answer to your question, 20 week scan booked in at St T's on 15 June. As I am seeing my consultant monthly and the prem clinic monthly it works out that I am seeing a Dr every two weeks and getting lots of peeks at the baby.

I might go to the Fetal Medicine centre on harley st around 32 weeks for another detailed scan. I am also booked in for a c section around 22 Oct - just waiting to hear back from consultant which date suits him best. That was a bit of a weird conversation - I still don't think that far ahead.

I managed to freak out the twelve year old doctor yesterday by asking "is it alive?" when he scanned me - I don't think he is used to such pessimism just yet!

Coconutfeet · 31/05/2012 18:12

Hello all, just a quickie while ds2 is asleep.

kittens - I hope it went OK and wasn't too grim yesterday.

T is so lovely Igggi. How is the feeding going now? DS1 was very slow to gain weight. No-one really knew why. He made up for it by turning into a ginormobaby but it was quite a worry at the time.

PQ - You've probably said before, but did you have your dc1 early (sorry, can't remember if you have a ds or dd)?

Congrats on reaching viability Frozen. I know you're not feeling confident yet but it's another milestone to tick off on the journey.

Ari Horrible news about your work. It's so difficult working in such an unsettled environment, waiting for announcements. Do you have any idea when they're going to let people know one way or the other?

Those side effects weren't mentioned by Mr S were they Picolina. Sounds awful!

Free - I'd love to see your bump pictures too! What is the news on your house move? Will you be in before the baby arrives?

I've been spending every spare minute trying to chuck out some of our crap in preparation for us moving house. Our purchase seems to be all going through and it looks like we'll be moving in the next month. Can't wait to have some more space!!

Hello to everyone else.

Pebbles73 · 31/05/2012 18:13

Duggs hope you ate doing ok, busy researching I imagine. Must have been a surprise for you both but am sure Dr G will be able to tell you your options.

Free my dh has been tested a few times where we have moved clinics and stuff and his tests have always come back ok.
Would love to see your bump photos as am sure you look stunning but maybe not right now as feeling a bit raw at the mo and anything baby related makes me cry. So sorry as feel like a bad friend but maybe in a week or two I will be feeling a bit better.xx

Good luck to everyone having scans tomorrow.

freelancegirl · 31/05/2012 18:54

Believe me, I look faintly odd anyway in pics Pebbles! Although there are some nice views of Greenwich Park at sunset.

Actually the photographer has tagged me in a lot of photos on facebook and I am now feeling really weird about it all. It's so PUBLIC. I am so used to hiding this pregnancy away and avoiding people to a certain extent that it now feels a bit - hey look at me I am pregnant! But I don't want to untag myself and be rude so will just have to let us pass by, it will be old news in a couple of days. Also - and I am sure a lot of you can relate - I worry now about the 'jinxing' thing. Imaging that I will look back on those photos at some point when things might have gone wrong. Never easy this malarkey is it!

Hello coconut great news your move is going through ok. Ours is still pending but we are making like it is going ahead and have already had a survey etc. Should know more about the mortgage either tomorrow or Weds. DH is packing boxes as we speak and I am doing faff all. This has nothing to do with being pregnant - this is how we roll in this household Grin It's not that am lazy, it's just he is very particular and if I got involved chances are it would be wrong, I would have packed things wrongly, put them in the wrong place etc etc so it's best for me to avoid him and let him get on with it. He doesn't take into account that I had managed to successfully pack and move flats for at least half a dozen places before I met him and all was well.

Great that you are getting a lot of medication attention *PQ. I was planning that 32 week thing at the FMC too but I guess I don't need to now have had 31 weeks and will have (all going well...) a 35 week one at Epsom General. Hey guess what my exact words were when they started my scan the other week: 'Is it alive?'. They just waded right in there with measurements without feeling they had to confirm that fact first. What are we like!

willitbe · 31/05/2012 20:34

I have been away for a couple of months, as not taking pred at the moment, but having been away I wrote a huge post only to lose it - arggg frustrating.

PQ - I had the fibronectin test on my last successful pregnnacy, I was told it only reassures against prem labour for 24 hours ( I was trying to get home to another country having been in hospital for prem labour signs. They told my I could not leave the hosptial unless I could guarentee to be home within 24 hours!)

Frozen - congrats on reaching viability, as for the cramps could it be irritable uterus?

I am currently waiting for af to arrive and will be trying again next month.
I willl post this before I lose it again.

batteryhen · 31/05/2012 23:55

I am here :) alive and well. This thread moves so fast! I have been reading all the news on here and am sad to read about chemical pregnancies :( our bodies must enjoy making us suffer :(

No real news from me, had a 28 week scan yesterday and all was good. free my first words were - is it ok? I don't think we ever relax. My consultant wants to induce me at 39 weeks - eeeek. It's all to do with my dodgy blood. I also had my glucose tolerance test last week which was negative thank god xx

I know I am rubbish at posting , but wecate decorating just now and I just don't seem to find the time!! Will lurk and post as much as I can xx

picolina123 · 01/06/2012 06:44

free they tested my thyroid when i had all the tests done last year , can i develope it later? i will ask for tests though, i was on the move yesterday and every time i turned over in the night my body was aching .

im starting a temp job today its only part time and is only 10 min walk from home but such crap money its not funny, its only temp and a bit different from what i do in accounts, may help me get into projects which is what i want to do, think i would rather stay home !!

suemays · 01/06/2012 08:16

Hi all, just a quick post to say did a cb test today and it said I am 5+ weeks so all seems to be going ok at the mo. Will read all the posts later. Waves to everyone and have a good BH if you don't get back on here.

duggs1976 · 01/06/2012 08:27

Oh sue great news! Things looking ok. R u on hydroxy ? X

Havingkittens · 01/06/2012 08:42

picolina, sorry to hear you are still having a lot of pain. It does sound rather like you've had a bad reaction to the steroids. Hopefully Mr S can work out something else to try you on instead.

sue, that's great news that your pregnancy seems to be progressing in the right direction. Fingers crossed for you.

battery, good to hear from you. Glad all is well.

free, I had a sneaky look at a couple of your pics via our mutual friend's FB page. You look stunning and radiant! Amazing to see you looking SO pregnant!

Thanks for asking about my hysteroscopy. Results wise, it was good. No scarring. Everything looked as is should, apart from my lining being thinner than it should be at that stage in my cycle but I've not been on the progynova this month and that seems to do the job. Phew. Experience wise, despite the ibuprofen and co-codamol I took it still hurt like f*! Also, I have had chronic stomach ache ever since as I think the coedine, or maybe the poking around with my innards, caused me to become extremely constipated and like a balloon full of trapped wind Sad, it has dissipated a little but I'm still not back to normal. I'm guzzling prunes like nobody's business. I hope they don't decide to 'work' at an inopportune moment, like when I go to the supermarket later!

freelancegirl · 01/06/2012 12:10

Sue that's really good news. Keep us updated! It must seem like ages to wait until your first scan but you will get there. They creep up on you.

Battery great to see you back and loitering! Great news that the 28 week scan was good too and the GTT result. Induction at 39 weeks is pretty good I think - I want to start this process as early as possible with the worry that I want it out of me as soon as it's healthy to have it if that makes sense.

Welcome back too Willitbe, hope you have enjoyed your break from trying and good luck with getting back on the roller coaster again.

Kittens make friends with me on facebook! In fact am up for being everyone's fb friend here if anyone fancies hookin' up. I do look rather pregnant don't I - feel a bit naked now I've been exposed publicly as a pregnant person [weird post miscarriage paranoia emoticon]

Great news about the results of the hysteroscopy but sorry it hurt. Is it worth you getting something to ease the loo activities? It can be so painful too!

Pico yes you can develop thyroid problems later, especially after pregnancy. I developed mine after a pregnancy (that lasted around 12 weeks) was I was 19/20. Also the doctors might be looking at normal levels that are out dated. Please do ask your GP for a test even if it is just to rule it out. Remember you want all thyroid hormones tested including antibodies not just TSH. Not sure whether you have been suffering from other thyroid type symptoms but it is worth having a Dr Google of them just in case. And don't just accept an 'it's normal' from the GP when you get your results. Bring the numbers on here for me to look at!

Mr S is fabulous with thyroid conditions too. Very up to date with treatment and supposed normal levels.

Waves to everyone else, got to get on with some work being that I've spent the morning having breakfast with PQ nearby, no doubt freaking fellow diners out with our rather unusual conversations about pregnancy, drugs, miscarriage etc etc!

GreenOlives · 01/06/2012 12:42

Hello ladies!

Arrived back from sunny Majorca at 4am today [knackered emoticon] Had a fabulous holiday but it was good to be back in my own bed!

I would love to see the bump pics free so please PM me.
