A positive thread for all those diagnosed with High or Very High NK Cells and looking to start TTC or already pregnant on Prednisolone and/or Intralipid treatment.

Newcomers very much welcome!

So sorry to hear that lemon. So bloody frustrating. I know it's not much compensation but they do say that they are so common, it's just unless you're peeing on sticks very early like we all are people probably never find out about them.

Has anyone asked mr s whether chemicals are related to NKC? I can easily see how they would be. But you also never know what might be 'just one of those things'.

freelancegirl · 16/05/2012 18:26

Hope everything has gone ok with Iggi today and that we hear from her soon

igggi · 16/05/2012 19:59

Hello, sorry couldn't post before - had 8 hour wait for the c-section before baby boy arrived at 4.30. 7lb 11oz. We are fine though baby was a bit pale when born so that's being checked. X

Havingkittens · 16/05/2012 20:32

Wooohoooo! Congratulations igggi. Wow, can't believe all these babies arriving in the last week. It's amazing!

mercator · 16/05/2012 20:54

Huge Congratulations iggi wonderful news. Hope you make a speedy recovery and get to take the little chap home soon!

Comedyworks · 16/05/2012 21:03

Fantastic news Igggi - congratulations to you and your family. I have come home today amazing how quickly they get you up and about - very sore though! Hope you make a speedy recovery.

Lemon - really sorry about the possible chemical.

I think I have spent the last 48 hrs just staring at Matilda and the trials of the last 4 1/2 years have faded somewhat. I really hope that this can start to happen for even more more of us on the thread x

Arianrhod · 16/05/2012 21:03

Excellent news igggi, hope you're feeling ok?

lemonsherbet · 16/05/2012 21:25

congratulations igggi glad that he is here safe and sound. Any news on a name?

suemays · 16/05/2012 22:18

Iggi big congrats to you! My DD had jaundice when she was born so we had to keep her by a window when we got her home. She had to go back into hospital overnight after a day at home and was put on the lightbed but was fine after a few hours. The worrying never seems to stop even when they are born! Even now, at the age of three, DH and I check on her when she is asleep! I think with everything we have all been through, we will be especially overcautious with our future and present babies.

Lemon dont forget that Battery was told by St Marys that she was not pregnant after having a test with them but is now in her 3rd trimester. The only way to really tell is to have an HCG test as that will let you know if a pregnancy is due to fail or progress - I had one with my first chemical in January. I was frantically testing up until then every morning and comparing the decreasing darkness of the lines. They started off really dark for 3 days and then got lighter and lighter. Its so frustrating as you are in limbo not knowing what on earth is going on. My last 2 pregnancies ended at around 5 weeks so mine are also failing earlier. Louise at NLC said it could be down the to the NKCs becoming more effective or it could just be that the embryo was not right in the first place. At least you will recover from it quickly and not need to take a break if it does turn out to be a chemical. Fingers crossed you will be OK though and its just a slow burner.

Comedy I am not surprised you are spending so long staring at Matilda, with all you have been through you are entitled to!

digitalgirl · 16/05/2012 22:19

Huge congratulations to iggi on your little boy! Hope you're feeling ok and he's checked out fine. Can't wait to hear more details Grin

free you are officially top of the list! Any last minute scans planned? I don't blame you for thinking an elcs would be a safer option. But it's definitely worth reading some positive birth stories (Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth is often recommended on mn) - as a way to renew your confidence in your body. coconuts perfect pain free birth is a wonderful example of how epidurals can be a great thing! But even if it does hurt - the memory of that pain fades very quickly and it's all so so worth it.

comedy and yes, the pain of the last few years of struggling also fades - especially when you have a baby to stare at. But I still well up when I think about how lucky we are. Happy tears though.

lemon oh how terribly frustrating. Am sorry it's turned out this way - so bloody unfair Sad.

suemays · 16/05/2012 22:25

Free I also dont blame you for wanting ELCS but I am sure all will be OK.

Someone was talking before about insensitive friends. One of my pregnant friends emailed me her 4D scan pics this week with a photo of her husband as a newborn to ask me if I think they look alike! She knew I lost a baby around the same time she conceived so I would have been due within a few weeks of her! Some people have no idea. I had to mail her back to tell her it was too painful to look at her scan pics as the only ones I ever see are of dead babies. Sometimes you have to be blunt or they dont understand.

ChoccyPud · 17/05/2012 07:52

Yay!! igggi congratulations! More baby news, it's a busy week on here!

lemon sorry about the possible chem, thats truly shit news. Sue's right though, you will be able to try again straight away. It's also true about battery though. So confusing...

Sue some people have no clue do they?! I would've done exactly the same as you did, and told her I wasn't able to look at the pics. It's bad enough when I see FB friends who now have pics of their babies as their profile pic, or who address posts to the baby ("love you loads..." etc). I'm like, tell the baby, your voice works, the baby can't read FB, aarrggghh! But then I'm in a particular place at the moment...

On which, it kind of clunked with me that free is now top of the list. Bittersweet in that it shows how much time has passed since my Dec mc, but equally I'd have been at that stage too if that pg had worked out for me. Otoh there are so many dates for me now it's ridiculous!

I'm on a bit of a downer this morning anyway as just said goodbye to dh who is away until Monday. Then we go away on Tuesday so I'll try hard to concentrate on the good thing of impending holiday but it's going to be a tough few days. I've got things planned at the weekend, not to mention holiday shopping and, umm, some serious personal grooming requirements to sort out... I'll get though it.

OP posts:
GreenOlives · 17/05/2012 08:04

Igggi fantastic news! Massive congratulations to you Thanks :)

Lemon so sorry to hear that things are not looking positive, its crap Sad

I'm 11dpo today, I'm not going to test until the weekend but I'm not feeling hopeful this month anyway. At least its only 3 more sleeps until my hols! :)

duggs1976 · 17/05/2012 08:08

Big hug choccy. I can be an experiment
If u like as seeing dr gorgy today at 2pm. Armed with A SACK of test results etc will be interesting what his thoughts r on steroids only. Obviously they work in some cases and he uses pred I believe, but some of us require more so will be sure to report back on here later.Smile

helterskelter99 · 17/05/2012 08:23

Hello
Lemon Just thought I would add from an IVF perspective I don't start the pred until post egg collection so it may be worth not starting the steroids until you get a bfp. I know a friend who saw Dr S did that about 4 years ago, but I also appreciate that 4 years is like a 100 years ago in terms of how stuff is moving on on immune issues.
Good luck to everyone else xx

BellyD · 17/05/2012 09:24

Big congratulations igggi. Hope your little boy now has a bit more colour and you are both doing well.

Big hug choccy hope the retail therapy provides some temporary cheer Wink. I am sure a holiday is just what you need.

BellyD · 17/05/2012 09:26

P.s. a friend of mine who is working on the Olympics asked me if I would like to look after her three kids in July and what was my daily rate! Ummmmm......no thanks!

freelancegirl · 17/05/2012 10:00

Igggi!! You've had the baby!! After all that stress and worry, here he is. Huge congratulations to you. Can't wait to hear more about it, hope you stay around to chat to us and help keep us sane! I have been warned that babies are all potentially a funny colour when born - sometimes grey looking - but that is normal. Can't wait to hear all about it all.

Comedy I can imagine you are indeed staring at Matilda in awe! Especially after all you have been through. It fair brings a lump to my throat.

Glad you are up and about if a bit sore. Is this your first CS?

Looking forward to your report back from docs later Duggs.

Lemon any more news from you today? It's an interesting point what someone said about Battery.

Sue it must have felt strangely satisfying to send that email back to your friend. Sometimes we just except insensitivity with a sad shrug but other times it is good to spell it out! Did she reply yet. What a terribly insensitive thing to do to you.

And yes, it must be bittersweet for you Choccy watching me reach the final stretch. I think we can all relate to that. The 'bad dates' just keep adding up sometimes! Also I find other people's pregnancies seem to go so bloody quickly. I had three friends who got a BFP the same time as I did before this one and they now all have month old babies. But I realise that being pregnant and seeing that happen makes it a lot easier than not. Where is the impending holiday to? I do love hearing about a holiday :)

Olives good luck with the testing! Does that mean you are testing the day you go away for holiday and/or taking a stack of tests with you? I didn't get a BFP until 14DPO twice. Where abouts in Mallorca are you going? Such a lovely island. If you haven't already, do try to go into Palma as it is a great city.

Yes Digi I have heard of that Ina May Gaskin book and I do plan to get it. I have been reading hypnobirthing too which is interesting, but I think you really need to believe in it to use it properly. Or go to a class. You are right, it is good to hear positive birth stories and we have had them on here. I think my main fears are firstly something going wrong at the last minute, meaning that having successful manage to keep a baby alive all that time it suddenly gets damaged or worse as a result of something that could have been prevented by getting it out quickly and secondly the prospect of lasting damage to myself. I spent a good few years of my 20s being ill and miserable with this thyroid problem and it's only really been in the ten years that I have felt like my real self again. The last thing I want to do is add recovering from rips and tears and potential incontinence problems or issues with sex drive etc into my life. So it is not necessarily the birth I am afraid of - I've dealt with pain before and I know it will be over with relatively quickly (compared to the rest of life IFKWIM! I do realise it can last quite a while!) but just the fear of something happening to the baby and also lasting damage to contend with for myself.

BUT unless there is a good reason to arrange a CS I will probably have to go down the vaginal birth route anyway, so yes I will start reading up on it as much as possible and exploring relaxation etc. My intention is to be more confident about it after (hopefully a positive one) the scan that has been arranged for the 25th, a week tomorrow. After that I might let myself believe I am going to be planning for a baby.

Oh and Charlie and I are joint top of the list too as she gained a day somewhere along the way. My Nuchal dating scan actually gave me the date of the 22nd so maybe I should adjust mine too. I just feel it's poetic that the 24th (due date by LMP) is my birthday...

Hello HelterSkelter have we chatted before? I think I remember your nickname. Now you've got me singing the Beatles. Did you have immune issues or did they just give you steroids as a precaution? My good friend Pebbles is going through IVF with immune treatment at the moment so I am really hoping it works for her. At what stage are you at?

BellyD - daily rate for looking after three kids in July...? Erm, £5000 a day cover it...?

eurochick · 17/05/2012 10:24

Congrats igggi. It's so exciting to have babies arriving. Free and charlie you're next! And you both have the same due date as my friend who is pregnant after IVF and 2+ years of trying. That is going to be an exciting week!

Olives I second free's recommendations re: Palma. The train that goes from Palma across the island is fun too. It travels through really narrow streets on its way out of the city and feels a bit like you are steeping back in time as I haven't come across anything else like that in Europe.

Sue sorry that you had to be so blunt. Some people really don't get it, do they?

freelancegirl · 17/05/2012 11:58

That little train is great Euro! I took that too. It ends up at Soller I think. Such a lovely way to see some of the island. Also go to Deya (Deia?) Olives where Robert Graves lived I think. Hope it is lovely and warm. Decidedly chilly here today I am finding. Mind you, I am still mooching around in PJs getting some writing done so maybe a bath and some proper clothes would sort me out!

Stogan · 17/05/2012 12:55

Omg haven't been on here for ages but massive congratulations to coconut comedy and Iggi on the new arrivals YEY !! Hope u r all well ladies
We will have a pred thread football team soon GrinGrin
Haven't read anymore posts just the list as DD at 9 weeks plays all day and sleeps all night which is fab but I just spend all day singing, playing and watching baby TV ha ha !! Hope everyone Is happy and healthy lot o love xxxSmileSmileSmile

batteryhen · 17/05/2012 13:34

There are so many babies arriving it's fab!
iggi Well done you xx congratulations xx
stogan I can't believe your dd is now 9 weeks!! Time flies :)
duggs I will be interested to hear what Dr Gorgy says today - it seems there is a lot of conflicting information at the moment.
lemon Any updates today? The others are right when they say I was told I wasn't pregnant by St Marys, I just had a really slow rising HCG, and my clear blue digis stayed at 2-3 weeks, even when I was 6 weeks. I stopped using them in the end - freaked me out. I hope it is the same for you - just a lazy HCG xx
free Your posts are always so long and lovely to read, I just can't type that well to say alot! Good for you being at the top of the list :)

I cannot believe I have moved into the third trimester - how has that happened??

I saw the Dr today (haematologist) for my factor V and TEG issues. He said to me
'and are you pregnant at the moment?'
'Yes' I said and pointed to bump '27 weeks'
'oh - you are very skinny for 27 weeks''

Now who doesn't like being called skinny but not at 27 weeks ??!

Waves to everyone else xxxx

eurochick · 17/05/2012 13:48

Yes, Soller, that's it. I couldn't think of the name. I remember we had a very amusing lunch when we got over there. We all sat down (big family group for FIL's 60th) and looked at the menu, then a bird flew over and did a MASSIVE poo on Mr euro.

9 weeks already Stogan! That has flown by.

Snoopy if you are still lurking, I am thinking of you.

Elibean · 17/05/2012 16:56

Just happened on this thread by chance, and sorry to butt in.....just wanted to wish you all the absolute best.

I have two daughters, both conceived (and held on to, presumably) whilst on prednisolone, aspirin, clexane....after 4 m/c. I never had the high NKC diagnosis, though I did have one slightly dodgy phospholipid result, but as it was a last ditch attempt we threw the book at it, so to speak. It worked for me, twice - and if it hadn't, at least it would have helped with peace of mind before moving on.

A few years ago now, but fresh in my mind! Good luck to you all Smile
