Maisie if I were in your circumstances, I'd see the go now.

We went after six months off the pill and were given all of the basic fertility tests. It was reassuring to know my body was doing its thing. Had it not been, I'd have wanted to know at the earliest opportunity as we were on limited time.

Good luck.

MaisieM · 19/04/2012 08:05

Wow, thank you so much everyone for the really quick replies. I've just ordered a thermometer from Amazon and am going to phone the GP to make an appointment for early next week (if they have any that is!).

The fertility site looks really good so will be having a good read this pm. I'm also intending to read the whole of this thread in an attempt to catch up with all your histories!

MiaAlexandrasMum
thanks for the warm welcome and many congratulations on your BFP. Anxiety is totally and utterly understandable and I pray that all goes well for you

Just really quickly wanted to say - i recommend fertility friend website. v. good. i was getting lots of positives on OPKs (like one a day for 7 days) and also having really long cycles and had no clue what was going on and assumed I was not oving. After Agnus castus and DHEA My cycle has settled down again and i find FF is brilliant. Still do the OPks by all means but Ff really helps you to get a better idea of if you are indeed ov'ing. Sorry to post and run.

love to all XXXXX ps. welcome newbies Smile

MaisieM · 21/04/2012 19:23

I think just posting on this thread has had a positive result. I'm on my third pack of the CB digital thingies and on day 22 have got a smiley face! Hopefully my thermometer will arrive on Monday so I'll be able to start tempting then too.

10000fireflies · 21/04/2012 20:33

Yay Masie. Happy SWI!!

beangrower · 21/04/2012 20:40

Hi Maisie - have fun. Will it be worth starting temping this cycle? You will have probably missed the temp shift if you are about to ov today/tomorrow...

Wondering if anyone here has a London/Southeast fertility clinic to recommend? Much appreciated.

luckyagain · 21/04/2012 20:40

That's great news Masie, and we all like great news!
My Duo Fertility Monitor has arrived today, it looks straightforward to use but I suddenly had a rush of nerves about trying again. I have only just had the ERPC but with the clock ticking I am reticent to wait too long.

Hope everyone else is doing ok with wherever you are in your journey

randomimposter · 21/04/2012 21:12

beangrower I went here for my recurrent MC tests, and I know several women who have had successful pregnancies through the clinic.

I found them professional and pleasant to deal with (except for some ditsiness with some invoicing)

beangrower · 21/04/2012 21:21

Thanks Jollster! Keep up the good vibes Lucky. xxx

MaisieM · 21/04/2012 21:24

Thanks everyone.

Beangrower - yes you're right, better to do the temping on the next cycle of course. Can you tell I'm still getting my head around all this TTC malarkey?!

blackcatsdancing · 21/04/2012 22:11

that's interesting the agora is my local clinic- walkable in fact!

randomimposter · 21/04/2012 23:14

we're nearish neighbours then blackcats! And i think we're the same age! And i have 5 cats, mostly black. Spooky!

sorry my phone's on go slow double post oddness.

hopefulgum · 22/04/2012 00:29

Maisie,it wouldn't hurt to start temping, despite missing the shift -it'll be like a practice run,and you'll also see when your temp drops(or doesn't) for AF.

I was talking to a friend yesterday - she recently had an ovarian cyst and was talking to her doctor about having her marina coil removed. He suggested she keep it in until she's 47.Which got us talking about pregnancy in the over 40's.She told me that when she was 28,her friend (also 28) became a big sister! Her mother was in her late 40's (possibly even 50) and didn't find out til she was 6 months pregnant because she thought it was menopause. There was also another woman that she knew who had a baby at 47. So, that's good news.

I know not everyone in their mid to late 40's is fertile, but not everyone is pin-pointing ovulation and ttc either...well that's my theory.I still haven't totally given up the idea that my DS (3years old) will have a younger playmate in the near future - in 2013 hopefully.

Waving to Jolls and Hippy. It is great having loads of new faces (WELCOME!) on the thread, but nice to see some familiar faces, especially when so many have graduated and aren't around as much anymore...I kind of feel like I'm a failure for not moving on - but I know that's irrational and silly, and I'm still in with a chance.

I hope everyone's pregnancies are going well(Fireflies are you close to term?) and that the latest LO's are thriving and giving their mums plenty of sleep.

blackcatsdancing · 22/04/2012 09:31

that is spooky jollster

kiwibabe · 22/04/2012 16:53

well time for me to get the ovulation tests out again, although I always seem to get a positive around d12, beginning to wonder if I am actually ovulating, still never sure whether its best to do deed day before, day off etc, Wondering if worth getting a cbfm does that actually confrim ovulation? 43, time running out but more positive since I went on here last week, hopeful gum re the 47 years old getting pregnant, my theory we have been conditioned to think that 40's is old for having a baby but years ago before the pill etc think it probably wasn't such a big deal and hearing things like that makes me feel better.

beangrower · 22/04/2012 18:34

kiwi - CBFM doesn't confirm ov'. It tests LH (and the pre-LH) hormone levels which trigger the ovary to release the egg - similar to more simple OP sticks (though they only look for LH). Keeping a chart of your temps or getting a progesterone test 7 days after estimated day of ov is the only way to confirm ov - this test is available on the NHS but I had to push hard to get mine checked.

I always get a positive around d12 too (odd d14 one to keep me on my toes). Then AF arrives around cd26/27. I am oving (had blood test to confirm and a scan). However, we aren't getting any eggs fertilized despite having a 2yo child conceived v quickly in 2009... My partner has sperm 'issues' - motility etc. Male fertility drops with age too (he's only 43 though...!) There are many factors that could be affecting TTC, not just ov.

DTD - this depends really. Would recommend at least every other day after period and up to ov but deffo aim to DTD on the day of + OPK and the following day if at all poss. We are holding off until + OPK day and the next day because of sperm prob...

Having a baby in your 40s is more of a lottery basically. Two women I know of anecdotally have managed to have 3 in their 40s. Other women aren't able to because of egg quality/lack of progesterone etc.

I hope you're a lucky one - and wish the same for everyone here.

MaisieM · 22/04/2012 19:57

Thanks Hopefulgum, I think I'll start temping just to get into the swing of things , no time like the present etc

hopefulgum · 22/04/2012 23:56

Beangrower _ when we were ttc after a vasectomy reversal - so trying to get sperm numbers up,we were told to "keep the pipes flushed", probably to stop scar tissue, but also, to ejaculate every other day because this will increase numbers. So I think, even with motility issues,it's a good idea not to go too long without "cleaning the pipes". So, my Dh was on strict instructions to sort that out regularly if we didn't do the deed.Blush I don't think anything is TMI on this thread, especially if it helps...

Kiwi - the simplest way to see if you have ovulated is to take your temperature every morning. The temperature rise after ovulation indicates that you have ovulated. I can't tell you how reassuring it has been to see the change in my chart and to know for sure (even when my doctor was telling me I wasn't)that I have been ovulating regularly.

Yep - some of us ladies in our forties will have babies. My son was born just 3 months before my 42nd birthday - and that was after vasectomy reversal. I think I'm still fertile, but I do know that I've got egg quality issues after having 2 miscarriages. That doesn't mean the next egg won't be perfect! My DH is in his early 50's, so his sperm quality may not be great either, but I'm sure he'll have a good swimmer or two in there.

Back to work today after our two week Easter break. It's "professional development" all day...yawn...at least I don't have to deal with naughty year eights.Smile

clickingtock · 23/04/2012 14:45

[namechange from Beangrower] Hi Hopeful - yes I've heard that too. But we've been DTD every other day for around 16 cycles and it hasn't got us anywhere. This is a new approach and actually it feels more natural for us not to go at it EOD. Tbh - I have got to the point that I'm not sure what will work for us. DP is retesting SA this week and we'll see where we're at. I feel that I've still got another baby in me

luckyagain · 23/04/2012 22:19

clickingtock
(love the name change by the way) So much of what you have written resonates with me....I too feel I have another baby in me but just feel so aware of time and 43 fast approaching. Like hopefulgum too, I would love a younger playmate for my DS - 2013 it is then!

MiaAlexandrasMummy hope all is ok and the early stage anxiety isn't too great.

Love to everyone x

clickingtock · 24/04/2012 08:18

Thanks Lucky - let's hold each others' hands here and hope we do both get lucky for 2013. The time thing is horrible. I'm 40.5 in early May (back to counting half years these days!) and it will coincide with us getting the second test results - I feel that we will be making some big decisions in May. Keep positive and good luck with your duofertility.

Wishing luck to all the early preggos as well as the TTCers here. And isn't Firelfies due soon?!

knickyknocks · 24/04/2012 12:41

I feel like I've been away ages! Hello to the new ladies kiwi, maisie, homeaway and lucky

Been ridiculously busy at work so hence the absence. Have had hardly enough time to get a cuppa let alone do a bit of mumsnetting (honestly who do these employers think they are making me work in work time??!! Wink)

All else going OK, potty training boot camp has been surprisingly successful with DD. A few poo in pants incidents but yesterday we had a breakthrough when DD actually ASKED to go for a wee wee. A very proud moment.

SWI week in the knicky household. DH on a course all week which means he's at home every night so no excuse and no need to ask for him to ask for annual leave this cycle round (the joys of a shiftworker...). That said, I suspect we won't DTD every night this week (haven't got the energy these days) - the aim is every other day and definitely on smiley face day and day after. I'll still be knackered doing that!! hopefulgum I've also heard it's useful for the chaps to ahem...keep the pipes flushed as it were so DH has said he'll make sure that things are....well.....ready to go......

clickingtock I'm still waiting for my DH to grab an opportunity for his SA test. His next day off is a week on Thursday so won't be able to do it till then. Very frustrating - would just like to know, after all my tests came back ok, whether the SA could highlight a problem there. I too feel like time is slipping away a wee bit. Me and DH have said that it's more than likely we'll give up trying if things haven't happened by Christmas 2012.

fireflies how are you doing? Not long now?

MAM how many weeks are you now? It's such a nerve wracking time in the best of circumstances so understandably you must be feeling very anxious. Every day at a time. Thinking of you.

Lots of love to everyone else xxx
