New thread..... let's get going!!

OP posts:
PuggyMum · 27/12/2011 14:52

Thanks for the welcome raspberry :) I joined this site as everyone seems very friendly!!!

Just ventured out to the high street with the in laws (we staying with them over Xmas and New Year!) and trying to buy p tests and ovulation kits covertly is no easy task! Don't want to alert them to the fact we are ttc as they'll get excited!!! No spotting today so still hoping for the result but trying to also not drink (when I am a bit of a lush!) is also an operation in itself!

SantasCave · 27/12/2011 15:18

Puggy, welcome to the mad house.

It is easy to get utterly obsessed with this ttc lark, so do try to be kind to yourself if things don't happen as fast as we'd all like.

On the drinking front, there is no real reason for you to give up altogether when ttc - I wouldn't have got through the last 2 years without Wine! Whilst I'm not advocating that you go out and get trollied, when you are pregnant the embryo is self-sufficient for the first 4 or 5 weeks as the placenta has not formed.

Here's hoping your stay is a short one, in the nicest way possible Wink

PuggyMum · 27/12/2011 16:27

Thanks Santascave x if good vibes from everyone here supporting each other could get you pg then we'd all be up the duff!
I like it when women are nice to each other. I see a lot of the not so nice side at mine / DH's work so this is all very new to me!!

raspberrytipple · 27/12/2011 17:33

ohhhh that sounds exciting puggy what do you and DH do? We are all very nice, perhaps not all the most sane but TTC can do that to a girl! Just wait until you get to the stage where you want to pee on anything that looks like a stick, every abdominal pain becomes potential ovulation pain and you start staring at your cervical mucus with such gusto to decide on it's stretchyness that if DH caught you he'd think you'd discovered a new species in your pants Confused ..... or is that just me?

OP posts:
DessieLou · 27/12/2011 17:39

Hey guys. And hello puggy! These girls know more about TTC than any doctor I've met so don't be afraid to ask for advice! They're right, try not to get too obsessed (easier said than done, I know!) it may be a long road but I hope it's not. I've been on here a couple of years although I go through stages of staying away from mumsnet to try to reclaim some sanity (not successfully as a rule!).
I came on yesterday so had a miserable couple of days but at least it'll be over with in time for new year. Have just figured out I'll be on peak shagging days whilst on a girls weekend in Edinburgh with my Mum....not good! I shall have to drag him upstairs the minute I get through the door! Grin Looking forward to the weekend away though, lots of shopping and going to see We Will Rock You!
Hope you all had a good xmas. I was nursing a hangover most of the day. Blush. It was a bit weird not seeing any family, I kinda missed the neices and nephews. Xmas is all about the kids, isn't it?
Anyway, I'm rambling. Smile

DessieLou · 27/12/2011 17:40

Hahaha! You are not alone rasp ! x

PuggyMum · 27/12/2011 17:50

Ha! Well I've just bought 20 ovulation sticks and a 6 pack of tests!! That should keep me going! I'm also looking at my dogs asking them to tell me if I'm pregnant....I'll try not to pee on them though!! Ha!!

I work in a bank ... I've worked with women who would stab you with their stiletto heel or get on the 'casting couch' to get up the ladder! I'm a trainer now which means I don't work closely with anyone except my boss - who is a woman and is lovely! DH is a policeman. So shifts could have wreaked havoc with his swimmers! We have a very honest relationship so he tells me all the gossip as to who's shagging who behind their other halves backs....then they get the cushy jobs despite better candidates!! No need to wonder why!

Winkly · 27/12/2011 18:01

Hi I would like to join in, though the last few days have made me question the idea of becoming a parent...

HeyMicky · 27/12/2011 18:07

Evening all! AF arrived at Xmas lunch last week with pregnant friends and close colleague also announced last week she's pregnant, so quite a hard week. Only been trying a few months though so trying to be realistic. Been tracking informally but peeing on sticks from this month :)

weimy · 27/12/2011 20:30

Hi all,

I am popping in after a long break just wanted to let you know that I have been thinking about everyone ttc.

I am not pg but the pack and OH are all well and I have had a chilled xmas.

I hope you all had great ones too! :)

Hugs and weimy pack licks! xxxx

raspberrytipple · 27/12/2011 22:12

Hey dessie very jealous of your weekend away! Sounds lush - been wanting to see we will rock you since forever but never get round to organising anything :( New Years resolution I think !

Puggy you are unfortunate to have worked with such horrible women in the past, there are some truly vile people around. I believe what your husband says though, my Dad was in the police and he used to see a few eye opening things and that wasn't even with the people he was helping or arresting :)

Welcome Winkly I must admit I had to second glance at your name when I saw it - I thought it said Winky Grin What has happened in the last few days that has made you question becoming a mum? Christmas is a nightmare of a time, very stressful whatever the situation so keep your spirits up, I'm sure it will all be ok.

heyMicky sorry to hear you've had a hard week, it can be horrible seeing people who are pregnant, it's not that I begrudge them their babies but I always think 'why not me?'. It will happen one day - promise! xx

Hello Weimy glad the pack are doing well lol Grin and that you've had a nice chilled crimbo

Can't believe we are rapidly heading towards New Year already! Will be 2012 before we know it and 2012 will be OUR year girls!!!

PuggyMum · 28/12/2011 00:39

Rasp I haven't mentioned my SIL yet.... Am sure I'll have plenty of time to whinge / bitch about her on here!!! But as I am one of the nice ones I will only do this as appropriate to any discussions! Ha!

Is insomnia a symptom of hoping to be pg? i've never had trouble sleeping before! I can't even declare I have whirring thoughts etc!!

Limejelly · 28/12/2011 10:07

Hello everyone, can I join you?
This is me and DP's first month of ttc so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it's difficult. I just know that I will feel disappointed if I don't get a bfp.
I am now into day 6 of my 2ww and it seems like an eternity! All very exciting :D

DessieLou · 28/12/2011 13:11

Just wrote a really long post mentioning most people individually then lost it before posting....really bloody annoying! Angry
So basically, hello everyone, hope you're all ok, keep your chins up, welcome lime jelly, good luck and happy new year.....that pretty much covers it! Grin

Winkly · 28/12/2011 13:14

Hi raspberry. There's been a few things really.

We had quite a nice Christmas, no money worries, good night's sleep. I wondered "why rock the boat?" We both work shifts, childcare will be a nightmare. To have any amount of space we are having to move to a town where we know nobody.

DH's dad has Alzheimers and this is the first year it was noticeable. He will have no relationship with any child, and I feel we are being selfish making ourselves unable to help MIL in the future. My parents are also a long distance away.

My nephew was unwell over Christmas - I dread the worry, the sleepless nights, the bedlinen covered in vomit. I am terrified of bringing children into a cruel world and being unable to protect them.

Sorry for being so miserable everyone :-(

Limejelly · 28/12/2011 15:58

Thanks for the welcome Dessie Smile

I have bought 10 (!) cheapo pregnancy tests off eBay and I'm waiting for them to arrive. They claim you can test up to 7 days early, not sure about that one though!

But what are ovulation tests?? I thought you just worked it all out from from dates? Should I be doing a test for this?

< goes off to Google>

SantasCave · 28/12/2011 16:29

Don't feel pressurised into using ovulation tests. Some people do, some don't. I'm in the don't camp at the moment but I do take my temperature every day. Temperature charting and checking your cervical mucus (sorry!) are generally the most reliable indicators of fertility.

As far as PG tests go, someone once posted the statistics on here as to how accurate they are, and it was pretty shocking! Even as much as 11 days after ovulation (dpo) most are still only 70% accurate. You can easily waste a fortune buying sticks to pee on Grin

raspberrytipple · 28/12/2011 18:41

welcome Tess and Limejelly I'm loving all the new recruits for the New Year!
Hope you all have a short stay in the nicest possible way. Hope your period clears up soon Tess, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth but I now take the opportunity to have a few glasses of wine without feeling guilty :) Makes me feel better anyhow. Lime TWW are THE longest period of time ever!!! And we have to have the bloody things at least once a month :( Fingers crossed though!

Puggy do spill about the SIL - I love a good moan - it's theraputic and it is very important while ttc that you are chilled out and relax so do tell, I'm sure it will make you feel better Xmas Grin

winkly sorry to hear you have had a hard time of it. I can understand your worries, it is a difficult decision to take, deciding when is the right time and we had all the same doubts when we initially took the decision but we've come to the conclusion that there will never be a right time. A friend of mine who I moaned about the other night said she 'didn't want to ruin her life, that she had at the moment' by having kids. The way I see it, it won't ruin anything you have now, you will just have a different life and it will all be rewarding, just in different ways. Hope you feel more settled about it soon.

oh and lime I have to say I am with cave re the Ov sticks and pg tests now, the pg tests are only really to be trusted on the first day your period would have been due I reckon although I have been guilty of pee'ing on anything stick like from 7dpo in the past!!! OPKs, again, they aren't for everyone so they are not compulsory. If you are in month one, unless age is against you and even then I wouldn't stress too much, I would really stick to the generic advice of having a good healthy diet, reduce your caffine and booze and have sex every two/three days. Don't put to much pressure on yourself soon. Most importantly, have lots of fun SWI!

Wow - mammoth post! I've been for a bike ride today Grin nearly killed me, I'm knackered so now tucked up on sofa while tea cooks having a few buds and a glass of wine. Got more bloods to be taken on Friday to double check this enzyme reading on my ovary Confused

before I forget Fairy how are you feeling now after your lap & dye?

OP posts:
PuggyMum · 28/12/2011 19:26

Well as you ask rasp... SIL (On DH side)... She is one of those women who could have an argument with herself in a mirror. You never know what kind of mood she will be in before an encounter so everyone is on tenterhooks! PIL live 250 miles away and BIL and SIL are round the corner from them.... So we only see them occasionally. But that is enough for me!! We are staying at PIL all over Xmas/new year! Get on very well with them.

B/SIL have a DD and SIL is the only woman who ever had a baby and follows every new fad and idea she reads. Can't speak to niece in a baby voice, no such things as Santa, she doesn't volunteer a cuddle off the baby either and I'm not comfortable to ask.... Friends kids - I'm the crazy auntie who throws them in the air etc until I can't breathe! They cry when it's time to say goodbye!! I've always gone straight up to friends kids' and played with them but just daren't with niece???

They arrived on Xmas day and poor FIL asked where DD was and was she asleep in the car... Quite innocent comment and she ripped him to shreds! I also dropped the f bomb while playing a board game (rock n roll) and she tutted and stormed off into another room as baby cant be exposed to language like that!! She's 8 months old!!

That's just one encounter!!

Appreciate you shouldn't really swear near kids but BIL said a few naughty words before I did! FIL also said a couple and when BIL challenged him BIL was reminded whose house it was!!! Fraught!!

Winkly · 28/12/2011 19:29

Puggy your SIL sounds like, erm, words you couldn't use during a board game.

Raspberry - thank you. I actually felt better just for writing it down. PMT wasn't helping either. Well done on your bike ride, enjoy your drinks and best wishes for Friday.

raspberrytipple · 28/12/2011 19:39

puggy she sounds superb!!! Just the type I'd HAVE to try and wind up Grin I'm a bad person I know but some people are so dreadfully up their own behinds you really just have to laugh at them. No father Christmas? What sort of family does she come from!!!

OP posts:
PuggyMum · 28/12/2011 19:42

Ha Winkly! The f bomb would work here too!

It's taken us this long to ttc (together 15 years) cos DH has major concerns about bringing children into this horrid world.
But as the song goes... Children are our future. Teach the well..... All we can do really x x

JosieSmith1 · 28/12/2011 19:45

I just lost a big post Xmas Angry

Had a good xmas, slightly sad due to lack of pg again and forced to spend lots of time watching DH playing and having enormous amounts of fun with his nephews, wondering if I'll ever be able to give him that for real. But was fun and santa was good to me. Trying to spend lots of time JSing. Back at work too, 'tis alright but no better than when I went off, although my confidence isn't as low as it was. Receptionist is back off maternity leave and keeps going on about how she wants another baby, cos apparently it's that easy for some people, someone else who has just come back off mat leave is pg again and someone else is suspected of being pg again [not impressed face]. Got another couple of counselling sessions then I'm considering hypnotherapy as I've had fairly good results in the past (should maybe try it for getting pg Xmas Hmm.

Anyway, catch up properly soon

P.S. hi to the newbies Smile
