Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

We are all jolly well going to smack the rat this month and grow a baby and we'll brook no argument. And probably eat some cake too.

Ladies....begin.

OP posts:
Solars · 23/11/2011 14:08

Hello everyone!

Wow another BFP!!!! Congratulations Real Lets hope this is the start of another wave of them....

What do we want?
Positive Pee Sticks!
When do we want them?
Now!!

Imps inspired by your seduction techniques I used the phrase slap & tickle this morning and got jumped on by DH! But sadly no DIY afterwards (although there is nothing that requires DIYing at the moment chez Solars!) But lots of paperwork got done instead!!

Scrambled what a pain having to wait 3 weeks!!! But glad to hear AF is subsiding and you're much perkier, always helps with the SWI!

So who is next to test?

ScrambledSmegs · 23/11/2011 14:14

I know! In fairness there were two other GP's that I could have seen, but I can't stand one of them and have a language barrier with the other. So 3ww for lovely GP it is!

GenericDietCola · 23/11/2011 14:49

Munkii what you said is spot on, don't worry. I had a mc before DD and one earlier this year, so I'm cautious but I am aware that the chances of a successful pregnancy outweigh risk of mc so I will think positive and brook no argument!

Imps good work

Scrambled glad you feel a bit better - enjoy the rat smacking!

I went to see my lovely GP this morning and she has promised to refer me for an early scan, probably around 9 or 10 weeks. I have also been offered the flu jab - anyone got any thoughts on this?

PopcornMouse · 23/11/2011 14:51

Blimey, 3 weeks?? If you keep bleeding to the same extent, I'd be tempted to visit a walk-in if you have one in your area?

Nothing to report here apart from the usual post-ov boobie cramps. I did lose another 1lb though and I'm now lighter than I was at my wedding where I gained half a stone through stress-eating whole cheesecakes in the 4 weeks leading up to it :o

possiblemaybebaby · 23/11/2011 14:59

I would take the jab Generic always good to have a bit of protection there if you need it.

Pop losing weight you say? I do believe this is a pregnancy symptom. I cannot for the life of me remember where I read this, but the latest diet trend to be sweeping the US is injecting HCG. Apparently it makes the weight fall off your bum and thighs Hmm I too am somehow losing weight at a fast amount, and have no idea how, so am obviously putting it down to my BFP which is just over there on the horizon

ScrambledSmegs · 23/11/2011 15:12

I would have the jab, Generic. Pregnant women are high risk so best to be on the safe side. I had the flu jab she pg with DD and all was well.

Oh Mines you poor love. You are allowed to take as much time as you need to come to terms with the MC. You are not crazy at all Smile

When you feel ready to come back, we will all be brooking for you x

GenericDietCola · 23/11/2011 15:27

Minesa it's hard to get over a mc, so we all understand. Hope you feel much better soon.

Thanks re flu jab advice Scrambled and Maybe - I agree and I will go for it. I remember when preggo with DD there were some scary stories about women getting flu in pregnancy. It wasn't offered to preggos at that time though.

Popcorn well done on the weight loss! Your BFP is surely coming this month. As is everyone else's of course.

ScrambledSmegs · 23/11/2011 15:37

Minesa I hope a bit of time out will help you get your equilibrium back. Mc's are awful Sad. We'll be here when you're ready*. Take care x

  • although I've got my fingers crossed that my rat will be smacked this month!
ScrambledSmegs · 23/11/2011 15:38

Oops. Sorry. Didn't mean to post that last sentence. Blush and Sad.

Hi Generic Just to add to the flu jab advice (although I tend to steer well clear of the scary immunisations chats), I would def get it. Again, I had it with DC3 with no ill effect. So that's a scientific sample of 3!

My husband, who is fit and healthy, non smoker etc got swine flu 2 years ago and spent 4 weeks in intensive care with pneumonia he got as a side effect. He was the illest person in our city not to die (some claim to fame!) and is now something of a legend at our health centre. It's the pneumonia that is the particular risk to pg women, as it is harder to clear the phlegm from your lungs with a bump pressing on them.

I never waste any time telling people to get one! The potential (and very much unproved) risks are, I feel, greatly outweighed by the very real risks of flu.

Here endeth the lesson.

ScrambledSmegs · 23/11/2011 15:56

I'm here! Sorry, was just doing some work. Unusual, I know Wink.

GenericDietCola · 23/11/2011 16:00

Flu jab booked - thanks Whimsical!

whimsicalname · 23/11/2011 16:02

Well done.

You get to have a brownie afterwards. They are definitely proven to increase immunity.

I eat loads, and never get anything, so it must be true.

Solars · 23/11/2011 16:02

So sorry to hear you're still hurting Minesa we'll be brooking no argument for you in your absence and hope to see you back very very soon x

Well done on the weight loss Popcorn

Scrambled I guess it's better to wait for the nicer GP then, rather than frustrating yourself with the ones you can't stand.

Whimsi your poor DH!

By the way Generic has it all sunk in yet?

Biscuitsandtea · 23/11/2011 16:08

Minesa - sending you some hugs - thinking of you xx

Whims - did you get an actual brownie after your flu jab? I'm so coming to your doctors......

My DH had swine flu too in 09 and it totally floored him (although no pneumonia or anything like your DH Whims). Even without the side effects it was frightening to see his sooo poorly! I've never seen him, or anyone, so poorly without being hospitalised. DS was 1 at the time and when they offered the swine flu jab for children we had no doubt whatsoever. No way I would have chanced putting DS through what DH had been through. A lot of my friends didn't get the jab for their DC because there was a bit of general 'uncertainty/untestedness' about it all, but after seeing DH....

So I dread to think how very poorly your DH must have been Whims - you poor poor thing (and him to). So glad he got over it all.

possiblemaybebaby · 23/11/2011 16:09

Whim your poor DH. I had swine flu, and felt shocking enough, but to be that ill must have been terrifying for you both.

And I whole-heartedly agree with Whim's brownie advice.

GenericDietCola · 23/11/2011 16:38

Hi Solars not really! Although it's in my mind all the time! I feel like telling everyone, but then I do enjoy having it as a secret for now.

I will certainly be getting a brownie after my jab - I had no idea they were linked to increased immunity!

My mum had flu several years ago and she seemed really ill over about 4 weeks. It annoys me when people say they have flu and really they've just got a terrible cold. I know colds can be awful, but flu is really severe.

CupcakesAndCocktails · 23/11/2011 16:39

Whoop another BFP! congrats Real fantastic news Grin

Hi Minesa it's lovely to see you again. Lots of Thanks for you

Imps it's good to see you've got yourself a real handyman there in more ways than one I might try to seduce DH + persuade him to do some DIY (our house is very much in need of it!)

Where is Bean?!?!

Scrambled well done for getting an appointment with the nice doctor.

Generic am very glad you are having the flu jab. Pregnant women are in the high risk group. I have the jab cos of work. I was wary of the swine flu jab the first year but it's been around now for a bit and has been well researched.

Getting peeing on those sticks now ladies I've got BFP fever!

I have got sore boobs which normally happens a week before AF so just the usual symptoms to report I'm afraid Sad

GenericDietCola · 23/11/2011 16:39

PS I once heard someone describe flu as being a state where you are so ill you are not well enough to sit up and pick up a £10 note from the end of your bed!

CupcakesAndCocktails · 23/11/2011 16:44

Oops that should say get instead of getting Blush

Whims am so glad your DH recovered from it. Sounds like he was very lucky indeed.

Btw I don't want to be a scaremonger but generally seasonal illnesses like swine flu are worse in the 3rd year of being around so if you get offered the jab I would take it. That said the NHS haven't seen many yet, I think there was a lot by this time last year so fingers crossed it will be a quiet year.

PopcornMouse · 23/11/2011 16:47

maybe injecting HCG to lose weight?! Some people will try anything... Shock

Oh Minesa, I didn't know ? I'm very sorry to hear of your loss :(
Take as much time and tlc as you need and we will brook on your behalf in the meantime :)

I agree with whimsy about the flu jab wholeheartedly. I think the flu risk to the baby is far greater than any reaction to the jab itself. MIL had flu last year (possibly swine, they had stopped testing to determine specific strains by then) which led to pneumonia too, and it really, really isn't worth risking.
