Morning Preggos,

Welcome Sweetie and Whimsical to the most lucky thread on mn!

Congrats Musical on your scan, great news Grin

Happy belated birthday Biscuits Thanks hope you enjoyed your day of freedom Smile

Solars how are you feeling? I'm keeping everything crossed for you. Am I right in thinking that after 19 months both Biscuits and Ninja got their BFPs?

Imps am very impressed with how your dealing with your work. I'm not surprised you feel so angry. Good for you for not letting them get away with ignoring you

And I can't believe the nerve of AF to show up at a time like this.

Beedle where do you live? On the NHS you should be allowed investigations after 6 months if you are over 35. I would be a bit Angry at the doctor as surely she can start the ball rolling now? What is the need to wait? However just wanted to reassure that having short periods can be normal. It could be an anovulatory cycle which should happen at least once a year. My periods are generally 2 days long. I've had 2 cycles since ttc that only lasted a day, my GP says this is not necessarily anything to worry about. (I dont know if I fully believe him to be fair).

Sorry if I've missed anything, I'm in a bit of a post night shift funk. Have been sleeping in little naps every few hours since finishing work yesterday. Am so TIRED!!

beangrower · 08/11/2011 08:48

Hi brookers - happy Tuesday!

Someone asked about checking FSH levels at home - urine test: Babystart Fertilplus. They offer quite a lot of home tests. I think this is quite crude though and if you are young and haven't conceived for ages I think you need proper blood tests.

Beedle sounds shocking: get back in there and request a different doctor for a second discussion, preferably in English.

And Whimsi - sounds like you should get checked out but you may have to get the 1-year hurdle done before the NHS will respond. You are still under the magic 35 so all should be sorted for pg4.

Am off to docs myself and will brook no arguments against tests/investigations.

TTFN.

BeedleTheBard · 08/11/2011 09:15

bean good luck at the doctors, hope you're more successful :) I have checked on the internet and the 12 month wait is right, but when if we get to that point we can self-refer direct to a specialist so at least I won't have to go and beg Grin. I think I can also self-refer to a gynae, so if I get another weird period I might look into that.

cupcakes thanks for the reassurance that it could be normal - though I don't think it was an anovulatory cycle as I got a clear temperature rise. I shall just think that my body is being very efficient and getting rid of the blood super quick so we can start on the next lot of rat-smacking Grin

beangrower · 08/11/2011 09:29

Thanks Beedle - the doc didn't really want to get too involved as I had DS not so very, very long ago. They have agreed to refer me for a private test to check out my ovarian reserve (AMH). Just a wee £85 to spend there but will give me an idea as to whether a rat will ever be smacked. If my AMH level is low then I will just have to stop torturing myself and knackering DP and get on with the fact that I have one very special little bean and am darned lucky at that.

This may not be your bag but I would highly recommend acupuncture and herbs to sort out your cycle. I had acupuncture throughout pregnancy for DS and was extremely well (not even a hiccup of morning sickness, very steady blood pressure, no swollen anything). Even when DS was breech at 38 weeks the acupuncturist helped turn him. I had a 6-hour labour at home (aged 38). But of course needles aren't everyone's favourite.

Hope that scone didn't burn your tongue.

NinjaChipmunk · 08/11/2011 09:31

are you in the uk beedle? It sounds like a rather odd appointment is you are. It could just be a blip with your cycle though I guess. How long is your cycle and is it usually regular? Apologies of you've answered this a million times.
Good luck today bean and make sure you come out with all the tests you need to have booked. We shall all brook for you.
Hello all newbies and welcome.
solars how are you doing? cupcakes is correct re biscuits and myself. I'm brooking extra extra hard for you lady.
mmmm scones..............I think I need breakfast!

BeedleTheBard · 08/11/2011 09:51

no bean I didn't burn my mouth at all. I have had acupuncture before, so maybe it is something i could look into. It sounds like it worked really well for you. FX you test comes back ok

Don't worry ninja I'm not in the UK. I live in Sweden, a country which has fabulous parental rights/benefits and subsidised childcare - I just need a child to take advantage of it!!! My cycle has been fine until now, nice and regular at 23/24 days with periods lasting about 2 days followed by a bit of spotting.

Solars, I'm also brooking extra hard for you.

Now who is testing soon? We need some more positive pee sticks :)

ScrambledSmegs · 08/11/2011 09:54

Oh Beedle that sounds awful. What a rubbish doctor. I'm very Angry on your behalf.

bean I hadn't even considered the fact that I may not have many eggs left. How depressing Sad. Hopefully your AMH levels are fine and another little bean will soon be on its way.

No smiley face today, but temp is rocketing. Can a LH surge really be that short? I thought it was meant to last for two days, but mine was a 'blink and you'll miss it'!

NinjaChipmunk · 08/11/2011 09:54

ooh beedle I love Sweden, we have family friends in Goteborg and Stockholm. The archipeligos at both are just gorgeous. Hopefully it was just a blip cycle then.

BeedleTheBard · 08/11/2011 09:54

Hmm just read what I wrote, obviously I don't just want a child so I can get my share of the tax-payers money Shock

NinjaChipmunk · 08/11/2011 09:58

Grin no but i think you are right in that as a country you have great services once you have a baby.

ScrambledSmegs · 08/11/2011 10:01

Grin we know Beedle! You don't have to explain.

Imps7 · 08/11/2011 10:04

Beedle I love the idea of self-referral - I've often said that they should implement it here. When I had a problem with my eyes last year, I knew I needed to go to see an opthalmologist, but had to go to the GP to get a referral - what a waste of time! Similarly, if you know you have a fanjo issue it's clear that you need to see a fanjologist - why not self refer?

Day 2 of my pregnancy here. Another 17/18 days til the egg and counting...

BeedleTheBard · 08/11/2011 10:11

imps that's where I went wrong - I demanded to see a fanjologist and the doctor didn't understand me - does she not read mumsnet????

smegs I think a blink and you miss it LH surge is perfectly normal, hope you smacked that rat good and proper

PopcornMouse · 08/11/2011 10:28

Smegs mine month before last was only 1 day, so I think it's pretty normal.

Musical it was sucking its thumb? Seriously? That's amazing.

Beedle if you're able to self-refer, how are they going to know that it hasn't in fact already been 12 months? Hmm
I googled those home tests, but tbh I think I'd just freak out if it gave me unfavourable results, so I think I'll just wait til Jan........... Confused

PopcornMouse · 08/11/2011 10:29

Is anyone else due to OV today/tomorrow? I need a new cycle buddy (I miss cakepidgeon Sad )

beangrower · 08/11/2011 10:56

Hey popcorn

Yes - I got my smiley face this morning. DTD last night and planning to DTD tomorrow. Do you have any idea what the average length of the surge detection to ovulation is - ie, will tomorrow morning be better than tomorrow night? (Can't do tonight...) Anyway - big brooking for you - that BFP is on it's way. We are now officially cycle buddies and I can confirm that during my pregnancy I sat down a colleague's wife who had been TTC for a few years and lo and behold she has a babster now so I am a lucky rabbit's paw for you.

beedle - get your share of the tax - why the buggery not? PLUS a beautiful bean.

scrambled - sorry to ring the alarm bells but ovarian reserve drops from around 35-37 (but can be earlier in others). Now mine can't have been that bad at 37 (pg in 6 weeks TTC/living with beloved) but at 39 there's been no such joy (a year gone by) so take that as a minor example but bear in mind this is damn ratting LOTTERY. Some people have babies at 48 no problem (though probably a bit of a surprise).

I have decided to leave AMH test until next month if AF comes (which I have to be prepared for as the old hag has been around 13-14 months now without any qualms).

ScrambledSmegs · 08/11/2011 11:01

Ah, thanks. I just got a bit worried that it meant this cycle was annovulatory, but I think the positive OPK yesterday plus rise in temp this morning means that the egg has popped! Hopefully temps will now stay high.

Has anyone else seen the DBF / TLES fallout from yesterday? It's all a bit Shock especially with Justine getting involved too.

Solars · 08/11/2011 11:34

Morning ladies

Beedle your dr doesn't sound very helpful at all, have you considered seeing someone else for another opinion?

Musical your scan sounds magical well done!

Imps your work stuff sounds very frustrating, don't blame you for feeling so angry about it and great that you have something to go to when you leave.

Thank you to all brooking for me, I'm doing ok as af still hasn't arrived and i'm pretty certain i'm on 16DPO. Discussed testing last night with DH and he's of the opinion of waiting 'til the end of the week!! It all seems a bit confusing for me being on clomid because it actually made me ov earlier so on a normal cycle I would be expecting af at the end of the week. I'm going to wait 'til the end of the week as i'm so scared of getting a bfn and telling DH (you should have seen the smile on his face when I said I think i'm on 15DPO last night). I have no feeling of af being imminent.

Anyway, enough about me, how is everyone else?

Scrambled what is DBF/TLES?

PopcornMouse · 08/11/2011 11:38

Lol Beedle, I'll consider you my nice floofy rabbit's paw then!
I sort of remember Generic (I think) saying that you ovulate 24-36 hours from the beginning of your surge, and that it can take up to 6 hours for your surge to be detected - which means from your first smilie face you could ov within 18-30 hours. So I'd think earlier would be better?
I dtd last night but we were very drunk and there were probably lots of clumsy two-headed swimmers in there... so best try and fit in another go today/tomorrow as well Blush

Smegs the what-what-what fallout? Justine who?

PopcornMouse · 08/11/2011 11:39

Sorry, I meant BEAN, obviously!!!

PopcornMouse · 08/11/2011 11:40

Ohhhh Solars that sounds really hopeful. I will cross my fingers and toes for you, though I understand why you might not want to PIAR yet.

BeedleTheBard · 08/11/2011 11:49

ooohhh solars I've got everything crossed for you. How long is your usual LP?

BeedleTheBard · 08/11/2011 11:50

I should learn to post a bit quicker!!

beangrower · 08/11/2011 11:51

Thanks popcorn - helfpul re' hours. I guess if you get surge poss 6 hours before smiley face then DTD last night was pretty good. Not sure DP will manage early am tomorrow as he is out and about tonight til late. Plus that lil' ol' egg lasts roughly 12 hours so we're looking at a min 32-hour fertility window from the smilie face. Innit?! Wow TTC has turned me into a maths wizard. There's a bonus.

Now then. NO boozing on fertile days. Listen to Aunty Bean. You gotta be a temple to grow beans, you see.

CupcakesAndCocktails · 08/11/2011 11:56

As far as I know (have stumbled across this accidentally). A poster called DogsBestFriend has been banned after a "personal attack" against another poster. There have been lots of people protesting against it as they don't feel she has done anything wrong. I assume Justine is a mn boss?!

Popcorn maybe the drunk sex will work?! That seems to be how 90% of people get pregnant. Maybe that's where we are going wrong by doing all the right things Wink I think we all need to take a more rock and roll approach to baby making!

Solars it's so frustrating, I hate the last few days of tww. We are all brooking extra hard. AF better stay away or else.

Well we have got DHs second sperm test in a few hours. After that it's back to the doctors for us as the first lot of tests are over.
