Another thread for those who are waiting to try for a baby. It doesn't matter how long or short the wait; why you are waiting; or how many DC you have. All are welcome.

Old thread here.

Moggle - that news about the booze is the best I've heard in a rather shit week. I thank you! Grin

Notthehippo I understand what you mean. You do get attached to the little blighters bless 'em.

Nenehooo - I think it's time we had a serious talk to our respective mothers. There's something they're not telling us... Hmm

Hello all lovely ladies - here's to Xmas! Wine x

Awayinamangercooper · 15/11/2011 23:29

AF called here today too, so no surprise babies in the Cooper house either. Oh well! Good to hear the course is going well.

Angelico · 15/11/2011 23:30

nenehooo just read your post about short cycle. I think if you are OV on day 11 or 12 it's grand having a 24 day cycle, if you were OV on day 18 or 19 might be more of a problem (something to do with a short luteal phase??? - this may be bollocks it's from memory) so you should be fine. That's my understanding from what I've read.

Angelico · 15/11/2011 23:36

BTW Nenehooo if you actually managed to read Take Charge of your Fertility you're a better woman than me. It's longer than the Bible. Can you just summarise the good bits for me like I'm the really thick kid in an A-Level class? E.g. what is going on with the grapefruit juice? And should I be drinking it even though it's vile??? Wink

Angelico · 15/11/2011 23:43

Zara1984 I was exactly the same about starting using CBFM last month lol. I used to sing my DH a song every morning - the words are "I'm going to pee on a stick, to pee on a stick, to pee on a stick!" I mostly sing it to the Chicken Tonight advert tune Grin

I also got the Pre-Seed but then gave myself whole new worries. Consider the following: imagine DH produces a million sperm. They're all swimming away when suddenly one of them gets a Pre-Seed rocket boost and accelerates out in front. It's the winner! Only it turns out 9 months later that it was a dodgy sperm and produces the baby equivalent of Binky the 3 eyed fish from the Simpsons. It's the sperm that never should have made it!

Am I worrying for nothing??? We need fewer teachers and more geneticists on this board... Wink

Awayinamangercooper · 16/11/2011 08:45

Nenehoo a 24 day cycle with OV on CD11 or 11 would be fine, as long as you have a luteal phase of 11 or more days you should be fine - and you'll have more frequent opportunities to TTC.

Angelico grapefruit juice is supposed to be good for producing more EWCM, but it never did anything for me, despite drinking boxes of the stuff. I think you have to introduce these things and stick with them for a few cycles to see any difference though. It doesn't taste that bad!

Angelico that's mad and you know it! It's not rocket fuel, it mimics your natural juices, that's all!

Rikalaily · 16/11/2011 09:09

Hi all. I'm on the depo atm, it runs out around Christmas day then we are going to ttc from Jan. Hoping that the 2 depo's I've had won't delay my cycle normalising. Was thinking about getting some ovulation tests for Jan to see if my ovulation kicks back in, have never used them before.

This will be baby no.5 for me and no.2 for my dp, atm we have ds (9) dd1 (6) dd2 (4, turns 5 in Dec) and dd3 (18 months). My lad will be gutted if I have another girl, he literally sobbed his heart out when we told him we were expecting dd3, he's so desperate for a brother, lol. I'll probably be just like my mum and have 1 boy and 4 girls though hehe.

I gave up smoking 7 weeks ago, rarely drink so no more naughty habits to kick, can't take folic acid but hoping to lose a little weight when the depo wears off as I've put some on with it, hopefully it will come off fast. I have to go to my GP to discuss my meds, I'm on 4 atm which I'll probably have to stop when ttc/pregnant so will probably be fairly uncomfortable when I stop them.

Awayinamangercooper Grin

MrsPeggyPatch · 16/11/2011 20:36

Angelico Grin at the preseed ideas. I'd not heard of it before, now I'm quite curious.

Awayinamangercopper any luck in pinning DH down to book leave?

So, I've got myself in a pickle tonight. I've got my first ever smear test tomorrow morning (yes I know, its terrible i've not had one before, but I finally got my bum into gear...).

I'm worried not only about the state of my lady garden Blush but also about dates and timings. If I'm calculating right I'll be most fertile around the second week of December and the plan was to try around then (though this does mean I'll probably get a very disappointing christmas eve visit of AF). Though I think it would be unlikely that I would have the results of my smear then...

So, in my head it is unlikely that I will be lucky our first month of trying and it is also unlikely that anything bad comes back on the smear, however suppose I were to be pregnant and then need further tests...Should I leave it another month and wait for the results :( , or should we go full steam ahead?

nenehooo · 16/11/2011 20:56

LITERALLY laughing out loud Angelico We SO are twins, as I'm also devastatingly funny Grin
Wiil have a good go at TCOYF - can try to translate it into child speak if you like so it goes in easier?!
MrsPP I say go for it! Only cos I can't wait personally...
Thanks for answering my questions lovely ladies! If only you could answer all my questions. Like why does my grill burn everything, even when it's on the lowest setting and the tray is as far away from it as it can get? Angry

redstrawberry · 16/11/2011 21:07

peggypatch best to go for the test even though its a grim experience. I had mine done a few years ago, but i remember it all too well.

Lying on the table legs wide open, a chatty nurse poking around with something cold up my lady bits while I tried to pretend I was not there and imagined I was in Paris taking a stroll through the streets... Hard though as the practice nurse kept describing how pink I was down there Blush....errrmmm think Paris! think Paris!!!

Oh and I tidied up my lady garden and probably just something i do - sprayed on some deo on undergarments before putting them on :)

Would you be able to discuss ttc with the practice nurse? Who can maybe offer some advice? But please do go for it, best not to put these things off.

moggle · 16/11/2011 21:36

AF here too today! perhaps we are syncing over the interwebz.

redstrawberry must remember the deodorant tip for my next smear, although I use roll on so may not be such a good plan ;-)

Last smear I had the speculum wouldn't come out! The nurse told me I had exceptionally strong pelvic floor muscles... interesting...

Also MrsPeggyPatch - last time I got my results back in about 5 days, it is all computerised and done centrally in our Trust, so the results come directly back from the lab rather than going via the GP. SO hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the results. But I would ask the nurse after the smear and see what she says.

As today's day 1 of the cycle before we start TTC I started taking conception vitamins instead of my usual multivitamins. Really hate paying twice as much for them since they actually have LESS vitamin in than my usual ones!! what a con!

chemiseblair · 17/11/2011 11:12

MrsPeggyPatch I left it ages and ages to have a smear, too- they hurt but I guess they're better than the alternative; like other people have said, the results should be back well before you'd be TTC.

CEDR · 17/11/2011 11:56

Now I've found this thread, thought I'd better join in!

Husband and I can't decide whether we're ttc ot ntntc (not trying not to conceive!). We were waiting originally because of my job's funding and a bunch of other things but realised we can "afford" this if we're frugal and sensible, job or no job. Plus I now know that I can apply for internal jobs if they come up whether pregnant, on maternity leave or whatever! Husband recently got broody, and although it's been at the back of our minds for a while, we never really discussed it that much (we have busy active lives,!!).

So my last depo provera injection was 13 weeks ago, and I'm not having another one.... trying to decide whether to wait until I have a proper period before we start ttc, or just go for it.....Not looking forwards to a period though, 18 months without has been bliss!

I know practically nothing about my cycle, been on the pill since 2001, and then depo for the last 18months....?!

Rikalaily- sounds like despite the depo you're hoping fertility to return quite quickly?!

Rikalaily · 17/11/2011 12:16

CEDR I'm hoping! I know it's not likely after everything I've read, it seems to be 12-18 months on average. I'm hoping that the fact I've only had 2 jabs helps, but I'm also very sensitive to hormones so that may not be in my favour. Fingers crossed though :)

My SIL got pregnant very quickly after the depo, her period had not returned at all so she didn't realise she was pregnant until nearly 20 weeks!

MrsPeggyPatch · 17/11/2011 15:03

Thanks all for the support!

Smear was absolutely fine- if you've not had one I'd encourage you to go, it's not so horrendous. For me it didn't hurt at all, even though the nurse had 3 goes at gettings swabs.

Nurse said results should be back in about 2 weeks so hopefully in time before 2nd week of December!

Now home and making minemeat and chutney...

MrsTwinks · 17/11/2011 19:23

3 cycles to go!! glad we are waiting ATM as the cramps are horrendous after the appendectomy. Stomach definately needs longer than 4 weeks to heal, laproscope or not if you ask me.

Had my blood tests today, and then tea with SIL and DN and eeeeeeekkk told her we are planning starting TTC in Febuary. So very real now, and it very nice she is going to help me keep it from MIL and makes me feel a bit better about not having mum to help etc. The amount of baby crack books I currently have on loan from the library is reaching critical level thou

LadyBourne · 17/11/2011 20:23

Good evening,
Goodness, haven't been on for a couple of days and feel like I've missed lots!

redstrawberry I have purchased both Pregnacare (for conception) and folic in my enthusiasm and now they're both sitting in my medicine box as I'm not sure when I'm meant to take them! I don't think there's any harm in taking them both, but I'm going to start on the Pregnacare in January and then go from there.

pinsent yes think that's what I'm going to do re the pill. This pack is my last one then going to start charting temp etc so I can get my head round cycles.

nenehooo I received my copy of TCOYF last week and it's certainly been a eye opener. Think I'll be referring to it a lot. Be interested to know what you think!

I now have date for surgery for endometriosis - 7th Dec. Ties in with end of pill packet so feel after then I can focus on ttc stuff. Keep having doubts about impact it's going to have on career as started in new job 10 weeks ago, but need to bear in mind it could well take ages to get pregnant. Oh what a dilemma!

I see there's lots of new ladies - hi to all.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

nenehooo · 18/11/2011 18:57

Hi LadyBourne! I got mine yesterday and couldn't put it down last night - even missed the beginning of I'm a Celeb to read to the end of the chapter... GEEK!
Am loving it, but so far I haven't really read anything that I haven't already seen on MN. Apart from the whole 'your Grandmother gave birth to you' thing... I was wowed by that last night - hubby already knew this and wasn't shocked. He also didn't balk at the fact that I'd bought a fertility book - RESULT!
Actually there was one piece of new info I picked up Angelico this is for you... if you find a round stain in your pants, this is GOOD as it means wet CM. Streaky stain is BAD as it means dry.
So there you go. Grin

nenehooo · 18/11/2011 19:01

Ooh and MrsTwinks Cycle countdown is good! OMG I WAS ABOUT TO WRITE 2 AND IT'S ACTUALLY 1. AAAAAAARRRRGH!!!!!!!
AND hubby has just said he'll buy me a new dress as we're going to see his family tomorrow and they never ever wear the same outfit twice and I still wear clothes I bought when I was 15. Blush
Have a good weekend all you lovely lovely people!!!

Angelico · 18/11/2011 20:36

Thanks for the tip nenehooo. And consider me deeply jealous that you can still fit into clothes you bought when you were 15 Grin

redrhumba · 19/11/2011 08:38

Uhoh have i been away so long to miss all this.
Anyway hi to you all again, and hi to everyone I've not met before!
Things have settled down a little now and i haven't really been bringing up the whole ttc thing but dh has and i got the shock of my life last night when he told me not to carry on with my pill (i'm currently on my weeks break) but in the same conversation he changed his mind again. i'm happy about this cos i think its a step closer to him agreeing to a 2nd although i feel i'm on a rollercoaster at the mo!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Buddhagirl · 20/11/2011 00:28

Hey everyone, loving the round strain advice! Even though its gross ;)

Things are moving on slightly in my world. We have decided on a name! I let dh pick , Tobias, Toby for short. He also said he can't wait to have kids tonight! Family and friends all seem to be pregnant or have small children so maybe thats contributing to it. Anyway I'm happy :D we are doing really well saving for a deposit on a house and his parents are willing to help out, plus ice got a new job with a big pay rise, so when we have moved in there will be no more excuses!

I'm still worried I'm infertile, but much more chilled about it and ready to wait and see. Hopefully just enjoy swi!

WeeSooty · 20/11/2011 11:41

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words about my feelings towards my cousin. It is good to know I?m not the only one who can feel this way.

Redstrawberry thank you for the link to that thread I?m so glad its sfae to get my highlights done! I don?t think I could cope with nine months of roots showing through!!! Lol

Peggypatch that?s good your smear went ok, it?s a horrible experience but a necessary one! I recently got fitted for a diaphragm, in an attempt to loose the condoms, and honestly the amount of nurses and doctors poking about up there I got over my embarrassment!

Well it was my cousins baby shower yesterday. It was alright, I had to put on a slight brave face but I guess I am slightly happier for her? Or at least I?m trying to curb my insane jealousy and be happy for her?. Envy

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

CEDR · 20/11/2011 16:42

Hm,
Nurse asked me if I'd had my second lot of MMR jabs as they're not in my records. I had to ask my mum (without telling her why I want to know), and she's sure I did have both lots (and I believe her as she's good at that kind of thing). Made me a bit worried though. Nurse said if I haven't had both lots, then I'd have to have the booster and stay on depo/ some form of contraception for 3 months before ttc. This is of course fine, but I don't know what to do! Should I have the MMR anyway? Would somewhat put off our plans, but we also don't know how long it will take for fertitility to return after 18 months on the depo...... :-S
