Hey guys!! Have taken the big step of coming of the Pill to TTC another DC. This will be DC number 2 - already have DS who is 15 months old and a DSD who is 7 years. We have spoken about another baby for a while now but it has now become more of a reality now that we have decided to stop using any contraception!! I am so so excited but know all too well about this horrible waiting game of patience which seems to get worse even after a BFP as then it's the painful wait for a 12 week scan!! (although this time I may pay for a private scan) I have had a MC before DS was born so am also aware of not getting to ahead of myself...but I'm so excited nonetheless!! I bought my friend a little present for her brand new (with tags on) baby girl and was so so broody. Cant wait for my turn now!!

Sorry for the long warbling post. This is such a hard time, the pre TTC, the waiting for BFP or BFN etc etc...I am the most impatient person in the world as it is...and to not to be able to tell anyone in RL makes it even harder!!

Hope there will be some ladies in the same boat as me!! Look forward to meeting u and sharing journeys!!

Lots of love, Pip xx

wannabemum24 · 24/10/2011 21:46

Hi :) I don't know if this is the right thread, but I have to say it to someone before I burst...my DH just told me that he feels ready and suggested I come off the pill!! Argh! I know it will take a while to get the pill out of my system, but hey! I AM SO EXCITED I COULD CHEW A BRICK!!! Sorry if this is the wrong place...I don't know about bus boarding and what it all means! Bit new Smile

pinsent · 24/10/2011 22:20

Thanks Kirrin. Hope I am as lucky as you when we get down to it.

Sorry to hear about AF Bosco. Sad

Hi wannabe! Nice to have another newbie here.

xxx

Tequilamockinbat · 25/10/2011 07:42

Bosco Sad

AF due here on Saturday and I have a feeling she'll turn up too Sad

Caffeinefiend · 25/10/2011 08:34

Sorry Bosco :(

Welcome Pincent :)

As for me, have no idea what is going on, overdue AF, nausea but negative tests...Confused

Vinolover · 25/10/2011 08:59

Welcome Wannabemum :) How very exciting for you! I thought I was going to burst when DH agreed to #3.

Can anybody help me with something please?
I got my smiley face on my OPK on sunday morning and BD sunday night with plans for last night and also tonight (just to make sure). Unfortunately, yesterday I was hit with an awful upset tummy and couldnt do anything other than pop immodium :( The thing is, my boobs were so sore yesterday which suggested to me I was at my peak fertile but I have had absolutely no EWCM at all this cycle. Do you think I have missed it or is it worth BDing tonight just to make sure?
Xx

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 25/10/2011 09:34

Vino, not that I know what BD is, but if it means the same as swi then I would ALWAYS have a go just to make sure!

I didn't realise I don't have "proper" fertility for the month coming off the pill - disappointed now! However ttc is doing wonders for my relationship with DP (not that we had problems to begin with, but its got even better!) so no real complaints here!

Sorry to hear you have AF Bosco. Have a Wine cos you can...

Caffeine my thumbs are pushed for you (same as crossed fingers here in Germany)...

Clandy · 25/10/2011 10:59

Hello and welcome wannabe.

I agree with cauldron vino- always worth it just to be sure.

I wouldn't say this month is a total waste anyway because people can get pg from a missed pill so must be a chance even if it's a slim one iyswim Smile

Clandy · 25/10/2011 10:59

Oh and BD is baby dancing so same as swi Grin

wannabemum24 · 25/10/2011 12:35

Thanks all :) So, what do I need to know? First SWI last night :) Pretty darn good, probably because it was for that purpose!! Do I need to eat certian things? How do I map my fertility? Should I avoid certain things? Sorry to ask so many questions but so totally new to this! I feel great though, it is exciting but I am sure there will be some frustraiting times ahead! TY in advance!

Clandy · 25/10/2011 13:05

Oh it's so exciting isn't it Smile dd1 was a surprise so new to ttc myself. It appears it is so much more than just swi!!

Totally agree that swi is so much better than just s Grin

Firstly I would start taking folic acid asap, and possibly get OH to take some vitamins with zinc as helps sperm. Apart from that I wouldn't really stress about it unless nothing seems to be happening. If you have an iPhone you can get fertility friend apps that helps to chart fertility or can do it online if not. Also you want to be on the look out for ewcm which is apparently fertile stuff and an indicator that it is time to swi, but it's far more fun to just swi all the time Wink and hope for the best!

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 25/10/2011 13:28

Hi wannabemum

With all the authority of someone who learned about this a week ago Blush I can offer the following:

zinc supplements are good for egg and sperm production so you and DP can both take them
folic acid is good as it does something good to blood flow (not sure what!)
Count your cycle days from the first day of your period (called AF around these parts) and then calculate how many days to the day before your next AF. That's your cycle length and about halfway through is your ovulation. You are most fertile in the few days up to ovulation (I think)
You can use ovulation predictor kits (opk's) if you want to be more exact.

Definitely agree with Clandy that the best advice is to just relax and have lots of swi. Easier said than done sometimes though!

I haven't avoided anything at the moment - maybe someone else has some good advice on that front...

Clandy · 25/10/2011 13:38

Oooh folic acid is good for babies spine development and has been linked to prevention of bafidia I think (happy to be corrected though)

Didn't realize women should also take zinc.... Best go and raid the cupboard Smile god im gonna have a super baby at this rate, think I rattle as I walk Grin with all vitamins

wannabemum24 · 25/10/2011 14:45

Thanks Clandy and Cauldron! I really appreciate the advice and will be popping down to Holland and Barrett asap! My DH has already been making me eat a bit more (been on a crazy strict diet!). Gosh, it is so exciting, it is the weirdest feeling though. I am really happy and (soppy though it sounds) it feels like mine and my DH's relationship is totally on another level now! I know we all wish for this and I know it rarely happens, but I really hope I become pg quickly! My mum is ill and I want her to be able to meet my baby! Plus, I am really impatient!!! I took my last pill on Sunday. Have you been off your pill for a while?

wannabemum24 · 25/10/2011 15:02

Oh, and it is great to have people to tell! I know it's the first step but it is just nice to have likeminded people to talk to. My DH (understandably) won?t let me tell anyone and I am having trouble containing my excitement!

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 25/10/2011 15:50

I've been off it since the beginning of October, more or less wannabe. I know that's early days yet...

in fact that reminds me of another question - what do people mean by your cycle "settling down" after coming off the pill?

I came off the pill a while ago (not to ttc) and I didn't notice any "settling down" as far as AF was concerned, ie my cycles seemed monthly straight away.

I've also only been back on it about 4 months after 3 years off. If my cycles were always regular straight off the pill last time, does that mean I won't take long to "settle down" this time?

wannabemum24 · 25/10/2011 15:58

Cauldron I know what you mean! My TOM (time of month) was regular to the hour before I was on the pill so it makes me wonder if it makes a difference? Also, how long does the pill take to get out of your system? I was on Yasmin...so glad to be off it. Don't know about you ladies, but I always feel much more 'up for it' when I have my week off the pill for the withdrawal bleed!! Bodes well :) My poor DH won't know what's hit him the next few months!

pinsent · 25/10/2011 17:13

I think the "settling down" time varies from person to person. Some people are really lucky and get straight back to regular AF's, which it sounds like you guys probably will if that's how it was before, and others are irregular for a while. I am not too sure how my body will react. I was on the pill for 12 years and only took my last one on Friday, i can't really remember how regular i was before, although i do remember them being painful. As for the pill coming out of your system, i think it's almost immediatley and i have read that some women get a fertility surge when they first come off and so it is good to start SWI straight away. I am currently waiting for my final withdrawl bleed so that we can get down to business. Poor DH won't know what's hit him!

skepsis · 25/10/2011 17:15

Hi everyone, can I join?!
We have just started to ttc#2. Got +opks Sunday and Monday and a - one today so have had lots of swi (just trying to get used to all the abbreviations!). So I guess I am now in the 2ww. This ttc stuff is new to me, I didn't realise it could be so complicated - ds1 was a surprise!

Fishpants · 25/10/2011 17:35

Well, last night was my first attempt at AI with my donor! It was all a bit awkward but managed to do it just fine. Have been uber-disappointed the last 7 days with negative OPK's, BUT!!!!!!! this morning, after AI, tested and got an almost-positive! It's not exactly as dark as the test line but pretty close. So I'm assuming O-day will be tomorrow, CD17. Yay!!!!! Looks like we got the timing pretty well spot-on. Planning another go at AI tomorrow night if OPK is positive, if it's negative obv will have been too late and just have to go with what we had last night.

Gah I'm so excited Smile

Have had some abdominal crampiness today, wondering if that's O-related. I think it possibly could be as I've had O-related crampiness/bloating before. Or I might just be overthinking it as I'm TTC now.

Have any of you had experience with Pre-Seed? I seem to never have EWCM. I mean, not ever. I have thought that Pre-Seed, which helps to apparently mimic natural secretions might help the spermies to swim but I don't know if that's better than no lubrication at all, so to speak? (Definitely not a plug for the product, btw, just asking for opinions).

Vinolover · 25/10/2011 17:53

Good luck *fispants8.
With regards to pre-seed, my friend swears by it and so ofcourse I just had to buy some! I have used it twice this cycle as I have been quite dry Blush but I would have used it if I wasn't anyway I think Wink. DH didn't like it and I did asthough I had wet myself but im willing to try anything!

Welcome skepsis. I had a + on sunday morning and a - this morning so we are at the exact same stage! I have a strange sense that I have missed the boat this month though. Im so Angry that I had to get ill yesterday! Still, I had a lovely pamper day today which involed a facial, body exfoliate, massage and wrap. It's certainly helped me unwind.
Xx

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 25/10/2011 18:02

Its so exciting to log in and hear everyone's news! Smile

skepsis - Welcome! I think we're about on the same timing, I'm now in the 2ww too (if I've got my sums right). I'm frankly breathing a sigh of relief a bit as all the swi over the weekend has left me exhausted and with a uti! Blush

fishpants that is so exciting. Massive thumbs pushed for you! Is the donor there while you do it? Sorry if tmi to ask but you've piqued my interest... I am totally getting the overanalysing every twinge thing. I thought I could feel ovulation but actually its gone on for 3 days. Now I think I'm even mistaking hunger pangs for being pregnant!!!

wannabe hopefully we'll be the lucky ones Smile

I've been reading about pre-seed on another thread but haven't used it. I think I'd like to keep the actual act as relaxed and natural as possible iyswim. Maybe I'll try it if I need extra help in a few months.

Funny ttc story of the day - I made two chocolate cakes for DP's restaurant, but got the recipe wrong and ended up having to chuck all the mix (tons of it!) down the sink. I then proceeded to have a total meltdown, involving throwing the recipe book and flatly refusing to ever make another cake again. DP then concluded that I must be pg because of my reaction! I had to break it to him gently that no, I'm just a stroppy unreasonable git sometimes Blush

CauldronOfBrownJoy · 25/10/2011 18:03

oh and opk's arrived today!! Hooray!! Grin

Fishpants · 25/10/2011 18:08

Cauldron I laughed out loud at the mistaking hunger pangs for being pregnant. YAYYYYY for your OPK's having arrived! Now you can join in the 'how dark is dark enough' debate that I've been raging over the last 24 hours Grin

Oh and to answer your question - it's all a bit awkward really - he comes in and donates the swimmers in the bathroom while I wait. Then he leaves and I do the rest myself. He's a good friend, it would be way too weird for him to see me nekkid [hgrin] and I'm sure off-putting at sticking syringes into dark places.
