Im not POAS until at least the 28th as Im really rubbish at being a woman and am still learning about my cycle! So being due the 21st is only a educated (from MN) guess of when I should be due it would appear I have 32 day cycles based on marking my calender for the last two months. (first time ever Ive kept track :) )

So ill give it til then for AF and if none then I will Im at a wedding on 30th so need to know for then so Im not drowning the poor bugger in vodka making sure I make appropriate choices at the bar :)

Can I just ask if any of you feel like your life is a little 'on hold' whilst you're ttc?

I ask because I'm getting a bit down. I'm really not enjoying my job at the moment and I have seen several other jobs I'd like to apply for and have even been head hunted for one. One of the jobs in particular that I spotted this morning would mean that I could go and move nearer my family- which is very important when babies are in the picture.

However, I feel a bit trapped. I would feel ever so guilty applying for a job and then having to tell them I'm pregnant v. soon after starting (hopefully). And also (although a smaller point), we would probably be financially worse off as we wouldn't get the 'full' maternity package that I would get from the current job I'm doing.

On the other hand, my other option is to just stay where I am and get my full maternity leave, knowing full well I won't come back after it and watch all these great jobs pass me by. But I could be stuck here for ages... Also, in the field I'm in, jobs are few and far between and it's highly competitive. I feel like there's been no jobs for ages and now that I have this 'trapped' feeling, I keep seeing lots that I would like to apply for.

Can any of you make sense of my situation? Are any of you in a similar boat?

Astroness - I felt trapped in my job when pg with ds1, I didn't go back after mat leave as we moved closer to family just before I gave birth.

It's hard to know what to do because as you say there's the finance side of it. I think if I were in your position I would go for the job you want now. Things that are meant to be will happen, that's what I believe.

Ds1 is almost 4 and I am just now starting to take the steps to carve out a career for myself and it's a lot harder to try and do it around children. I am going to wait till they're are older and at school as I want to be a midwife and the course is an hour commute 3 years full time. For now I am gaining care work experience, have trained as a Breastfeeding peer supporter and am studying biology through the OU. Anyway, enough about meGrin I just think you should grab opportunities in life and see what happens. Obviously that's just my opinion in hindsight. I couldn't have planned my path as ds1 was something of a surpriseHmmGrin

Hello everyone

Please can I hop on your bus. This is our 13th month of trying ttc#1 and AF is due on 27 September ish. Only just had peak fertility on my clear blue monitor so I've got a long wait ahead and would love some company.

Astroness - I toatally understnad where you're coming from. My life has been on hold for the last year and I'm totally sick of it. I've decided to stick it out in my current job (for the maternity package and out of fairness to a new employer) and I've had to watch lots of other opportunties pass me by which is frustrating. DH and I have even avoided booking holidays as it's risky to fly in the first trimester. Sometime I wonder if I'm overthinking things. Other people who fall pregnant unexpectedly do all sorts of unsuitable things and still go on to have happy lives and healthy babies.

Whysoserious · 15/09/2011 14:20

astroness I would definitely apply for the job if not many come up in your field. I started a new job last week (teacher) and I knew all along that I was going to start TTC around the same time. Realistically though it is going to take me a few months at least so I would end up doing a full eat anyway.

Part of the reason women don't have the same opportunities as men in the work place is because they have to take time out of work to have a baby if they choose to have a family. Men don't have this issue do they - they can just try for whatever job they want whenever they want. I don't think a woman applying for a position should EVER feel guilty about applying for jobs that interest them an further their career if they want to have a family too. The fact is, hardworking, ambitious, talented people are and asset to any company and the employer will be happy to deal with several months maternity leave if it means having strong workers in their company long term.

I think putting life on hold in this way also adds the pressure of conceiving. I think we should all just carry on as normal and only adjust as soon as we have a BFP otherwise, let's face it (and I really hope this isn't the case for any of us) we could be living in limbo for years.

Right that's enough serious talk out of me for today. I better do some work!

Ladies, I have the most horrible pan in my abdomen to one side (the left) today. Like a stitch but more dull if that makes sense.

Fertile week this week and DTD Sun and Tues, and due again this eve Wink.

Could it be ov?? Or summink else? Bit worried as really quite painful Confused

AstroNess · 15/09/2011 16:07

hero that sounds like it could be ovulation pain to me. I get it most months and I read online that some women get it that bad that there have been cases of women going to hospital thinking something's wrong with their appendix. Get at it with you DP as soon as poss :o)

why golden and dalr thanks for your thoughts. It's good to know that I'm not the only one feeling a bit torn about things (not enough to stop ttc I hasten to add).

I figure I may as well apply for jobs and carry on regardless. I hope this time next week I'll be preggo anyway and then the decision is made for me.

Que sera sera, as they say.

Hello all - and welcome welcome to my testing buddies hero & Dalrymps and to you too Golden

Go for it Astro! - I totally agree with everything the wise Why said. If it's any help I started a new job knowing I wanted to get pregnant although I did wait a three months before ttc so that I would get full maternity pay. I did feel a bit guilty at the time but now I have been there 4 years in total and you know what? I've achieved more positive outcomes for my employer than a lot of my colleagues have, even with having 9 months maternity leave and going back part time! Also, to be honest, my priorities have totally changed since having ds - I used to think of my career as defining me but now, although work is still really important to me, it's only one part of the picture.

You're not on your own hickory - I always get one breast more painful than the other, always starts being painful before the other one too

I reckon that is ov pain hero - I thought I'd got appendicitis once and it turned out to be "just" ov pain - never had it that bad before or since.

Ain't mother nature grand!

My great swi plans went totally to pot yesterday as dh came down with man flu and is far too much of a wimp ill to swi. We have therefore only managed to swi twice this month (although at the right time). Oh well, I'm still thinking positive, after all it only takes one little swimmer to be in the right place at the right time...

Anyway, here's the updated stats:

Evening all. I'm ttc #3 and totally get where you are coming from Astro.

My advice too, is to go for it and just enjoy yourself, don't put anything on hold as I think that can hold back ttc and your body knows. I think depression doesn't help it either so make sure you are as happy as you can be... there is a good four years of keeping your life on hold once the kid/kids are born so go for it now...whether it's jobs, moving house, new hobbies, holidays...things always work out somehow and I think being pregnant and knackered is more tolerable when everything else is going well!

Morning ladies, feeling a bit crappy this morning because I have got definite period pains - I didn't think I was due until next weds but they are really strong like AF is imminent. I know it's only my first month of trying but I'll be so sad if I get AF this weekend. I'd geared myself up to finding out next week as well so thought I had a few more days of 'maybe I could be...' daydreaming (which is my favourite thing to do at the moment. Sad

I know people say that it feels like they have period pains when they are pregnant but this seems to exact to how I feel every month. I've seriously got to get a grip because this is my first month of what could be a long journey - I need to man up haha!

If AF does come the one good thing would be I could get absolutely ratted at a party I'm going to tomorrow. Wow I'm so classy. If not the plan is to drive and abstain from the drink and wait for the inevitable "oh yeah, and why aren't you drinking?" questions which I always say to people and have now realised they must be thinking "fuck off you complete and utter bitch" back to me. Blush

How are you all getting on? Lots of SWI and symptom spotting depending on where you are in your cycles?

Report
AstroNess · 16/09/2011 08:41

Oh why that sounds rubbish but keep the faith. You never know and it's not over until AF actually arrives.

I woke up with huge cramps this morning and feeling like crap. I don't know what to make of this. Like you say, the symptoms are very similar so I could be in the same boat as you why.

Trying to keep optimistic though. AF isn't due until next week.

I really sympathise Why and AstroNess. I hate the way ttc makes you question every pain or cramp or symptom you experience during the 2 ww.
