Does the old pillow under bum trick actually work?

Me Again,

Just wondered if this actually worked!

Sorry if it's too much information but when DP and I BD i have a real urge to wee afterwards - so i usually just trundle off to the loo, have a jimmy and sort myself out

However, After BD'ing this morning i thought i would try the trick above and sat for 25 minutes dying for a wee with my bum on the pillow

Does this actually work or was i just making myself look like a prat and giving DP a reason to laugh at me (Again )

I believe it can help Jemma7. I usually stay horizontal at least for 20mins. From what i've read thats long enough. Also - I read to just put a pillow under your hips but not raise too high as this could cause the semen to pool behind the cervix or something !! I'm not very up on the anatomy of the area - sorry ! I generally spend about 10 mins with no pillow and 10 mins with one just to cover all angles !!LOL
Some people put their feet up against the wall too.
Then again, I haven't been lucky this time yet so what do I know !!

Though 20 mins with your bum in the air takes the romance out of it somewhat.

HI there ... I put my feet up against the wall most times after the deed and was pregnant within about 2 months ... makes sense, as the sperm are travelling with gravity towards their required destination !!

Is quite cold during the winter months though ... esp when u want to snuggle afterwards .. keep a blanket handy

I tried it and didn't work for me. I always go for a wee before BD as I'm prone to cystitis (sp?). Try that it may make you less 'urgent' afterwards.

Maybe it helps but can't make a huge difference, can it? I've never done the bum up thing, we don't even have sex all that often and still I get pregnant really easily. Sorry if that upsets anybody struggling to conceive; I wish I could just give my fertility away to you all!

I know you've had a rough ride recently DL but i actually appreciate your comments.

Yes, i have started lots of threads about TTC - each month i tell myself to not get too pent up about it and just let nature take its course - then each month i go and start another thread or ask another question

TBH, i'm getting on my own nerves with it all - i try and not think about it too much and try to believe that if its going to happen it will but then the urge to post and ask uestions gets the better of me.

It may sound strange but when DP and I first got together we knew we wanted kids but wanted to wait until certain ages and until we had done certain things but September 11th really changed my mind - I sat and thought to myself what is the point in putting things off when something like that could happen.
I know DP is the man i love, want to marry and want to spend the rest of my live with and it worries me that things can spontatneously (sp) happen (i.e Sept 11th).

Strange way of looking at things i know but it really changed my perception of things and the way i look at life!

I did the same Jemma7 - Advice from my doc while I was trying was to wait horizontal for 20 mins min. If you go to loo immediately after semen runs the wrong way and you wipe it away. Worked for me. DS2 I needed tablets for (ovulation prob) but I got so used to doing the 20 mins that I carried on when not trying and fell for DS3. DS1 to DS2 6 years, DS2 to DS3 21 months. Forget about conception just have fun practising

Have managed to conceive using both 'techniques'!
Any one got any babydust!! There's a shortage here at the mo!

Well i cam off the pill at Xmas last year - therefore have been "trying" for 10 months - however, the first few months weren't really trying - we just weren't taking any precautions!

If nothing by new year i will ask Doctor about Clomid - do they give it straight away or do u need to go through months of proving you have been trying?

Can imagine their faces DL - however, DP is one of these men who thinks it would "Challenge his manhood". No matter how much i know he wants children i don't think i could ever get him to do it.

Doesn't help that his brother doesn't realise how much it is actually hurting both of us and makes a big joke of DP being a "Jaffa"! Doesn't exactly fill DP with confidence.

took me a year to get pregnant first time and six months second time. Both times I did fall pregnant I had fallen asleep after sex and therefore not got up to go to the loo or anything for at least six hours (very rare which is why I found it so interesting that these were both the times I conceived). Not a coincidence I am sure

I put my legs up on the wall - and it's worked both times! I have polycystic ovaries so thought my chances of conceiving were slim so I am sure every little encouragement to get the sperm and egg together helps. By the way, I fell pregnant the first time about a week after my consultant agreed to put me on Clomid. Sure once the pressure was off that's what helped (I read somewhere once about thoughts becoming a biocghemical reality and affecting your body). Hope it's the same for you Jemma and you'll be pg very soon.

Not about pillows but fyi, we were trying for over a yr before approaching dr. Consultant tried spream counts & blood test (me for hormones) & laproscopy before trying clomid. So took a long while to get there. Anyway, got p in 3 months, unfortunatly lost baby later. Second time went to dr after about 5 months and straight onto clomid. This time took 4 months, so not instant in my case. Good news was I think my hormone balance changed after delivery and managed to get p again (unepectedly) 2 months after stopping b/f!

Clomid is only suitable if its certian hormone deficeicenies. At time Dr was reluctant as prolonged use was thought to give higher risk of (ovarian I think) cancer. But now study has shown that that was cos patients perscribed clomid were those having problems conceiving and therefore more prone than ave persons to having these types of cancer anyway.

Don't know how long you've been trying, but dont rush into drs (on other hand dont leave it too long as it can take a long while to get refered etc)(sorry that's not much help, just trying to say there are a lot of pros & cons with treatments - good luck)

I know i say every month "If it's not our month, i'm going to stop trying so hard" but i really am hoping this month.

DP and I have been hard () at it for what seems like an age - have checked on the internet on several ovulation charts and because my cycles vary from 28-38 days aparently the best times for us to try are from day 15 - day 25!

We started on day 13 and are on day 22 now so not much longer to go - haven't even mention the "Am I, Aren't I" thing to DP this time - figured, it would be sods law that i wouldn't mention it to him and it would happen! Wishful thinking i know!

Anyway, have tried everything now, bum in air, bum on pillow, feet on wall & laying flat - needless to say, DP looks at me like i am some sort of fruit cake
