Dearest sparkly, Mrs Parkly and Baby Gabriel - huuuuuge congratulations to you on becoming a family of 3 Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin. Absolutly thrilled to hear the safe arrival of the gorgeously named Gabriel James. WELL DONE!! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Dying to hear all about it but completely understand that you will be super busy for some time to come. Rest up, sleep as much as you can and give that beautiful baby a big cuddle from me.

wombatinwaiting · 27/12/2011 05:00

Harassed - sorry that things aren't progressing as you'd like right now - sending lots of eviction vibes so you can get the home birth you wanted. Big hugs to you x

Good to see you're still lurking wellie - hope xmas in the sun wasn't too weird!

Happy Christmas to you all - will do a proper update later. Just off to British Embassy to hopefully start the passport proces....

Wormshuffler · 27/12/2011 06:51

Morning Girls
I was on phone last night so couldn't do all the gushing I wanted to do.........
Thanks Wine Grin sparkly Grin Wine Thanks so many best wishes!!

I have sent a stongly worded email to Justinemumsnet to make her fully aware of the trauma we have all suffered by having to wait for 3 days. It is not good for our blood pressure!!

So...... hoping to hear all the deets when you get a chance, it mustn't have been too long an ordeal for you as Gabriel (love it btw) was born within 12 hours of your last post.

to wellie hope you are well. How was your first aussie christmas?

Any problems at the embassy wombat I am sure yellow will be able to iron out for you Grin

How is your last childless christmas going yellow? next year will be so different for all you first timers. We are having a fab time. DD12 has actually spent the last 3 days downstairs with the family Shock . She is going through that being squirelled away in her room on webcam with her friends phase and it's lovely to have her back. It was the where's wally 1000 peice jigsaw that did it!!
DS has already completed his technics lego kit that I hoped would keep him amused for weeks!

In harassed news, there is nothing to tell, her latest facebook post was late last night and was a share of a you tube accupuncture video detailing the pressure points you need to push to get labour going. I really hope baby comes for her before friday (induction day) as I know she is hoping for a home birth. All crossed for you harassed if you are looking.

Onto me, the baby was lovely and active yesterday. Very reassuring. I am still really worried about the whole placenta thing. Have another scan on thurdsay which is only 2 more sleeps and on this one they will be able to check the growth. The movements last night in bed were unbelievable. So strong! My DC's were never as strong as this. DH couldnt believe it, it really was like a scene from alien!! I was having very hefty braxton hicks last night too.

Speak soon Girls

yellowtomato · 27/12/2011 09:43

Ahhhhh sparkly such lovely news, how exciting. Sounds like things must have moved fast once you got in the hospital. Can't wait for the details and a piccy. I don't have any good poo advice except for the fact that about a kilo of grapes and/or fibrogel (from boots) always works for me.

Glad you've been having lots of movements worm what time is the scan on Thurs, mine is at 9am. Still not sure what mine is for but I will take and reassurance I can re size, position or whatever else they can check. How is the breathlessness?

wellie hello, did you have a barbie for Xmas?

wombat good luck with the passport, I was wondering how that worked. Cos kids change so quickly will jack have the same photo at say 5 years as the one he will have now or do you have to keep changing? Are you planning a trip to the uk? Maybe we can manage a meet this time?

harassed am sending you my vesta contraction vibes, have you been tweaking those nipples? I've read it needs to be 3 times a day for about an hour! Grin

Hello kool how you doing?

Xmas was v quiet for us, we are normally in France, has been weird just the two of us but also v relaxing. I can't believe how much I sleep, almost 10 hours last night with a 2 hour nap during the day. I only had to get up as my left hip was aching and when I turned over I got some massive kicks which I took to mean she didn't like that position! Am feeling v fat, swollen fingers and feet and can't walk v far. I think the final 2 weeks at work are going to be challenging.

Love to you all especially hugs to little Gabriel

wombatinwaiting · 28/12/2011 16:41

Yay for such great movements worm and hope the consultant tomorrow has some more definite and promising news for you but with all the BH you're having, perhaps wormjunior will make an early appearance....? Were your other DCs on time?

Thanks for the update on harassed? If you're out there m'dear - hope you're doing ok and that bug is on his/her way before induction date. Sending hugs x

I can't tell you how Envy I am of you and your sleep yellow! 10 hours and a 2 hour nap sounds absolute bliss - I think i would give up my life savings for that right now! I know what you mean about the quiet xmas - DH and I pretty much ran out of conversation over dinner!Shock. While it's hard to walk, do try and do as much as you're able, it really does help with the swelling (along with lots of water). I think they mostly check the umbilical flow at your stage scan tomorrow - it's crazy that it was so recent yet I really can't remember! Good luck and let us know how it goes. I think a meet-up would be fab and I should have a whole lot more time this time. I'll be there early May in the Birmingham and London area. Passport was a bit of a joke - the embassy could only help with the birth certificate and Jack didn't even need to be there for that. Anyway, it was nice to get out of the house for a while, if nothing else! We did manage lunch out today and a bit of shopping - amazing what a bit of retail therapy can do for the mood!

Jack seems to have developed a frustrating habit of just crying from about 8pm to 11pm.... could be colic I guess. It's like he doesn't know what to do with himself. We're going to try a bath tonight to see if that calms him donw - it's proper full on crying/screaming. On a brighter note, b/feeding seems to be settling down at last - I almost don't want to type that in case I'm speaking too soon.... he isn't in any sort of routine yet, other than being lovely and pleasant and sleeping well up til about 4pm and then it;s anyone's guess what will happen!

Have been thinking of sparkly and Gabriel lots and wondering how they're getting on - must have been a very different sort of xmas for them!

Leftover ham and turkey pie for all! xx

yellowtomato · 28/12/2011 21:00

Good luck for tomorrow worm let us know how you get on.

wombat I've heard it is common for babies to cry in the evenings but have no advice, sorry! Well done with breastfeeding though.

Wormshuffler · 29/12/2011 02:21

Scan is at 1045 yellow hope all goes well at yours too.

My dd used to be an evening crier too wombat no colic, we worked out it was because she wanted an earlier night in the end. However this did mean she would then want her morning to start at 3am until she finally slept through aged 13 months. That's no help at all to you though!

I can't sleep. My grandad died yesterday morning and I keep thinking about my poor grandma on her own after over 65 years together . He was 90 which is a good achievement

wombatinwaiting · 29/12/2011 07:24

Oh worm - I'm so sorry to read about your grandad - a tough time of year. How is your mum/dad coping? Sending loads of comfort and thoughts your way xx

yellowtomato · 29/12/2011 10:49

oh worm very sorry to hear about your Grandad, it must be so hard for all your family at this time of year, esp your Grandma. Did they live nearby? Both 65 years together and 90 years old are amazing achievements. Lots of hugs to you. I guess your scan is right now, hope you are getting some reassuring news.

my scan was all fine. Sonographer was a little puzzled as to why i was there at all but checked everything and all good. The little chubster is apparently 3kg..at the top end for all the measurements....but still just within range. She didn't look at anything umbilica really, just measured and check fluid and that's about it. Anyway, always makes me feel better to be checked up on.

Really tired today.....sorry to go on about sleeping when you're so desperate wombat but I'll be in your shoes before too long.

Wonder how sparkly is getting on.......

Wormshuffler · 29/12/2011 13:29

Thanks girls. No we are not close by , they are all 6 hours away in cornwall. I would like to go to the funeral but can't see me being able to. Cs is a week today [shitting myself emocion] funeral likely to be a few days after that.
Nothing had changed at scan, still higher than is ideal umbilical flow resistance. The right amount is going through, but body having to work harder to get it there. Water still high but not dangerously.
Great news that yours is looking spot on yellow .

koolforcats · 29/12/2011 16:29

Worm, such sad news, I'm really sorry to hear that. Thinking of you and your family, especially your grandma. I do hope that your appointment went well today xx

yellowtomato · 29/12/2011 19:38

worm I guess the good news about the scan is that they are not concerned to want to bring the cs forward. It is a scary prospect but what a wonderful reward! What a shame you are not nearer and will miss the funeral, but I'm sure your grandma will understand. You need to look after yourself and try to keep as calm as possible.

MillontheFloss · 29/12/2011 19:50

Can I tentatively join? Just got (feint) BFP on a preg test. Had MC in Aug and ERPC in Sept and this was our second cycle of trying again.

Feel terribly guilty for drinking, eating stilton and taking hot baths over the Christmas period but I didn't think we would be so lucky to get preg quickly again. I'm sure that kind of thing is common before finding out though...

Wormshuffler · 30/12/2011 06:03

Course you can millonthefloss it's very quiet around these 'ere parts though, We are not the official newly upduffed thread but a gaggle of girls who M/C around the same time. Most of our residents have now popped Grin or are about to!
Congratulations on your BPF and may it lead to a long and trouble free pregnancy:)

I had all my bloods taken etc and MRSA swabs done, and was given a prescription for 2 tablets I am to take before the CS next thursday Shock . Nil by mouth from midnight and I have to be there by 8AM. The consultant said only water allowed. I did ask if I was allowed to put a tea bag in it and he smiled and whispered "yes but no milk"!

I thought things were starting off on their own last night, but alas I think I just overdid the crap food and felt fine after some very large farts!! I was actually scared it was I had turned into Vyvyan of the young ones now there's me showing my age!

Hello to Gabriel and Jack if you are with mum while she lurks Grin

harassed is getting induced today bless her.

mrsb is all good according to FB, and sends her love and congrats to sparkly as she still can't post from her phone.

yellowtomato · 30/12/2011 06:56

Hey worm it'll all be happening for you v soon. Does all sound a bit daunting but it'll soon be done and you'll have your gorgeous baby. Thanks for the update re harassed will be thinking of her today and glad it is going well for mrsb33 too.

I've been up since about 5am, just cannot seem to find a comfy position, is this the end of my sleepin? Hope not! have tried all the pillow combinations in bed and on the sofa and nothing quite works. Grrr. At least I am only "working from home" tomorrow!

Hello milliononthefloss congrats on the bfp. We are a fairly slow moving thread hence the difference in thread name and where most of us actually are! I have just about 4 weeks to go, eeak! Are you planning on early scans this time? Don't feel guilty about what you did when you didn't know, many years ago women regularly did much worse with no ill effects.

Right, going to have another attempt at lying down.

MillontheFloss · 30/12/2011 18:20

ooh, didn't notice this was an older thread. I'll find the one for the more recently upduffed. Thanks for the good wishes and reassurance though!

Sparklywine · 30/12/2011 19:10

Typing one handed! Grin
Suspect I won't get long, Gabriel was taken to the Trafford Centre today (not super impressive, only 10 mins away) as I wanted the baby bjorn rip-off bouncer for a family gathering on Sunday, he seemed to enjoy John Lewis but has since been fractious and not off the boob since (about 6 hours and counting!)
I think about you all often and always nearly get round to posting but either the day is going well and we are a contented family unit cuddled up, or it's a bit overwhelming and I'm wandering around in big knickers with my boobs hanging out, tears rolling down my face.
Got a busy weekend ahead, what with the inlaws also around (must show them where the kettle lives, endless cuppas are making themselves at the moment) - will be on early next week to post all about the boy and upload a couple of photies.
All in all we are doing well. The induction day was quite traumatic, I can't think about it without crying so not the hippy experience I was looking for, glad to get the one week anniversary out of the way and move on. Regardless, I have our lovely little boy, who despite his undignified entry into the world is generally a gentle and mild-mannered little soul. He looks like dh, and also Simon Pegg weirdly enough. BF is going too well, he latches on a treat and the lansinoh is working well, bit of smarting as he chomps down but apart from that no pain. The midwife weighed him at 5 days and he has put on weight and is past his birth weight, I was so proud of the chubby fella!
Sorry it's all about me, do need to catch up properly. Worm, very sorry about your grandad, hugs. Thoughts with Harassed too, sending happy good luck vibes.
Right, might have a little sparkly wine now! Grin

yellowtomato · 30/12/2011 21:32

Hey sparkly great to hear from you. Sorry that your induction was traumatic but glad you are able to start moving on from it. I have heard some hospitals offer a kind of debrief to get closure, do you think that might be useful?

I think up and down is entirely normal at this stage, sounds like you are doing really well. Look forward to hearing more when you can. Lots of love

Wormshuffler · 31/12/2011 06:03

Hey sparkly you certainly are an expert one handed typer!
Sorry your birth experience wasn't the hippy vibe you wanted, but the main thing is Gabriel is here now and you can waft around in your kaftan until your hearts content. Those hormones are a killer hey. They took me totally by surprise the first time. Days 5 and day 10 were the worst for me. Tears the whole day.
A weight gain on day 5 is hugely impressive for a BF baby. So well done you two! They have recently started weighing on day 3 here which I feel is ridiculous, and too much pressure on a new mum and BF baby. All it leads to is ladies getting into a panic and giving up BF. Used to always be day 5 here.

In harassed watch, unfortunately she wasn't able to be induced yesterday after spending a frustrating day hanging around the unit waiting for a labour room to free up. Isn't that awful, fingers crossed for today.

Don't know about you guys but I am so sick of eating crap so have laid out a fruit salad Muesli and yoghurt buffet for you all.

Happy new year! x

koolforcats · 31/12/2011 16:45

Sparkly, you sound amazing! What a wonderful, honest insight to your first few days. Wonderful that bf is going so well and what a great weight gain. How are the cats coping?

I hope harassed is getting on ok....

Anyone planning on watching the new series of One born every minute?! I'm going to give it a try....

worm, thanks, but I'm gonna have to pass on the muesli . How are you doing? I hope you and your family are ok xx

Yellow how's the uncomfortable sleeping going? Hope you're getting some quality hours in now. Remind me of your due date again? Blush

Waves to wombat and mrsb

Happy new year to Wellie already!

Sparklywine · 31/12/2011 17:28

Hey ladies
Just a quickie, Gabes is asleep - PIL bought round a lovely buffet lunch of cheeses, pates etc, enjoyed that and a small glass of red, and then took babes up for a feed - an hour later woke up with him contentedly asleep at the boob. Does this make me a relaxed expert or a bit of a slut? Grin
Wanted to wish you all the happiest of new years, and sincerely hope we get to meet up at some point. Regardless of that, I wanted to thank you all for your kindness, support and humour over the past few months. I don't have many real life friends, I'm quite nice but just bad at making an effort I suppose, and I think you've gone some way to changing my thinking on that one.
Lots of love, and big hugs to our little ones already with us and on the way xxx

yellowtomato · 31/12/2011 21:11

Evening ladies

worm thanks for the effort at getting us to be healthy but I'm sticking to my croissant and fried breakfast! Interesting the info re hormones after, I hadn't really thought of that. Also hope that harassed is having more luck today.

Hey kool I am almost 36 weeks, don't worry it's tough keeping track of everyone! I am sleeping well again, 10 hours last night with a 3 hour nap this afternoon but I am about ready for bed again! Blush

sparkly what a lovely message, made me well right up. You are doing so well with Gabriel, a natural. I too would love to meet you guys, you've really been essential to me getting through some of my darker, difficult moments this last year. It's lovely that we're all getting/got there and can continue to support each other.

Lots of love and warm wishes and snuggles to all xx

Wormshuffler · 31/12/2011 21:58

Ah you guys ...... Group hugs all round x x x x

I am currently fighting against sleep. The Telly is so crap too.

I'm definately up for meeting up, I think wombat said she was over in may ? We all will have popped by then too.
Will you guys be back at work then though ?

Sending warmest wishes to wellie that she gets a 2012 baby .

koolforcats · 31/12/2011 22:33

Well said worm Smile

I'd love a meet up too - you'll all be experts by May and I'll still be a novice but I know you'll look after me! I know I've been a bit intermittent with you ladies, but while I've not always posted, I never stopped reading and think you're all ace

I'm in on the new year hugs xx

wombatinwaiting · 01/01/2012 08:51

Room for one more in the group hug? It;s so true - you ladies are all fab and it's amazing how strongly connected I feel to you all. Your post also made me quite teary sparkly but in a lovely way.And yes, 'm over in early May and I would absolutely love to meet up - Birmingham or London way would suit but I can easily travel! (ha, she says, easily - my arse!) And kool - I very much doubt I'll be any sort of expert but I'm sure we'll all be cooing over your relative newborn and wishing we could go back to those early days! I don't mind at all that you don't always post - it's lovely to hear that you always read though.

Brilliant to hear from you sparkly and soooo glad to read that it's going so well with Gabes despite the birth not going as you had wished. VERY well done on the b/feeding too and weight gain after 5 days - most impressive. As worm says you;re clearly a natural. And oh yes to the big knickers with your boobs hanging out - I think this part of our lives should be renamed "the glamour never stops" - I didn't think I would ever look like I have at times, but how priorities change! Would love to see some photies when you get a chance, but only when you get a chance (that will be 2014 then! Grin ) Your PILs sound fab bringing you round that buffet - make the most of every bit of help you can.

Sorry not to have been on for some time - have rotten cold which has knocked me for six. Fortunately DH has been off and has been an absolute treasure running around and generally waiting on me hand and foot. He's back to work tomorrow though -booo....

So, lots to catch up on! yellow - glad to hear the marathon sleep sessions are back on! Really not long for you now! And yes, be wary of the hormones post birth - they can catch you out. Although I have found (so far) that I was more hormotional (emotional and hormonal - a great term a friend here thought up) in the weeks pre Jack rather than post JAck, but everyone is different. How ready are you feeling?Bag packed? Have you got some help for afterwards? How long is DP off for?

Worm - you must be feeling all sorts of emotions right now. Are you dying for the 5th to arrive or a bit nervous of it? YOung Ones eh? That's showing my age too! Did you make it to midnight? We managed 11.45 and then sleep took over!

Breaking news - just seen an update on harassed on fb but will leave it to her to post the news.....

What channel is OBEM on? Would like to see if I can get a re-run through t'internet....

So update on us - doing well other than cold - Jack finally seems to be latching on every time although when he's feeling a bit lazy he slurps and smacks and is an incredibly noisy eater! The general pattern seems to be sleep midnight to 3, awake 3-4 then sleep 4-6 then it seems to be a visit to the "snack 'n' snooze cafe" where he's feeding for a short time then sleeping for a short time. Afternoons are anyone's guess and then evenings tend to be a bit grizzly unless we're with other people when he seems to turn on the charm and is an angel all night - Hmm.... I've started expressing in the mornings too and am slowly building up some supplies in the freezer for DH to take over some night feeds but we're not sure what to do about expressing when DH does do the feed - seems a bit pointless him doing the feed if I'm up expressing anyway.... any thoughts / tips most welcome! We gave him a bottle Christmas morning as an experiment which he seemed to take fine and we're going to try to top him up with a bottle tonight to see if he;s less grizzly - we think it may be that it's because I might not be producing as much milk in the evenings. FWIW I bought the Medela Swing electric pump and the Mothercare own brand microwave steriliser which is brilliant - so easy to use. I was really worried about the faff factor with sterilising, but once I'd read the instructions, it's a piece of cake and you can leave the bits and pieces in the pod without taking the lid off for up to 24 hours. I'm sure there is more to post but it's nearly 1pm here and I'm still in my pjs!

A very happy new year to all you brilliant ladies - here's to a fab 2012 and yes to a new baby for wellie too - still think of you lots xx
