Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

See here for the old thread.

Ditto re: thinking of dachs and mrdachs.

Had to snigger at your bat tale blackkat - although I'm sure I would have reacted in much the same way....! Mind you, I'd have to escape on a plane back to the parents place! We only have little gekkos to deal with here and they still freak me out sometimes with their darting movements.

Lara - you must give me your dates as to when you're out here - we could have a mini freak-out / congrats glass of something sparkly (non alcoholic of course!)

Great news on the scan results collie

Any return of symptoms yet yrmotbfp? Fluctuating symptoms are def normal at all stages - as always, it's easier to dole out advice than take it. One day at a time.....

Not much to report here other than my lovely ob/gyn has broken a vertebrae and out of action for 5/6 weeks. She's recommended I see someone else at the same hospital where I had a dreadful experience with the 1st mc which is also where I would deliver (all being well) and so I am tempted to switch hospitals altogther but that would mean switching ob/gyn as well.... any brilliant ideas?

LaraMi · 02/06/2011 16:28

A BAT?! WTF.... Terrifying... The mere thought makes me shudder. There's no way I'd be able to return to the house until DH did a proper bat hunt. But then we don't get anything of the sort in built up inner city south London. Saw them once in Hyde Park though....

Thanks for asking re MW appt. Put me in the foulest mood. Got there and was waiting a whole hour. Place was baking hot, screaming kids, midwives looked stretched. It was packed. Women coming in with huge bumps and about 5 of them could barely walk. The place was overrun with buggies and cos it was half-term there were loads of bored and badly behaved kids running about. Almost had a mini meltdown with pure fear and I thought sh*t, I won't be able to cope with this?!

The midwife was pretty dull - it just feels she was filling out paperwork. I didn't have many questions cos I don't feel like she'd answer them anyway in a satisfactory way - thought that I prefer to google or ask my GP! Plus they lost two of my blood tests so I had to repeat them! The only thing I did find out is that my blook group is A-negative so because I am rhesus negative, I need to have "anti-B" in week 28.

Had to buy myself a huge cookie to compensate for stress of afternoon!

Harassed - nearly bought marmite cheese yesterday (it's on offer at Sainsburys) but DH wanted normal Babybels so I compromised!

LaraMi · 02/06/2011 16:31

WIW - will be there from 25th June to 2nd July - staying at Meridien Mina Seyahi. If you're around, would love to see you... Also if you are there, let me know if you want anything bringing (although you get everything there I recall apart from one random baking item you mentioned)

Velvetcu · 02/06/2011 16:40

I am laughing soooo much about the bat and the odd assemblage of clothing blackkat

yrmotbfp yay for you getting in here. You already know all the stuff about symptoms coming and going so stop your freaking right now Wink

I can't remember where I've posted what - have I told you I went to see the physio for dodgy hips/pelvis? Anyway I've had another day of frantic "nesting" (which as far as I can work out just means that instead of being a lazy slob I just have an overwhelming need to do all the jobs I have managed to avoid looking at previously) so my hips are now screaming and I think I might actually have to use the crutches she gave me :(

Lara sorry the midwife wasnt up to much and I really am shocked by how often the nhs lose test results! It's shocking. I also found out my blood group - I had no idea pre-pg what it was.

Marmite cheese sounds minging - I like them both but can't imagine them together. Not that I'm finding food appealing anyway. I don't feel sick I just don't fancy anything even though I'm hungry hence the losing weight instead of gaining.

wombat do you feel strongly about staying with this ob/gyn? Have you been to any of the other hospitals in the area? Maybe phone the midwifery team and ask to have a look around just in case you do want to switch?

Anyways I'm off to hang the blinds out to dry, fx they haven't fallen apart in the wash!

lily06 · 02/06/2011 17:06

Hello, thanks to everyone who asked after me and wished me luck. Just got home, all ok but a bit stressful. Had the normal abdomincal scan and all they could see was an empty sac, and they kept asking about my dates etc. Then asked me to empty my bladder so they could use fanjocam, and really freaked me out by asking me to keep a sample when i went to the loo so that they could do a quick pg test as well. Cue lots of tears and me convinced it was all over, again. However, fanjocam showed a very tiny bean with a heart beat too. Measuring more like 6 weeks than 7 but they seem unconcerned by this and are happy just to see me again at 11/12 weeks. Very relieved it is not ectopic and also that it is actually still there and appears to be progressing in the right fashion. Don't think it has all quite sunk in yet. Sorry for the rambling post and the fact that I haven't read back down todays posts yet either, off to bed for an hour as I have a migraine and have some teaching to do later this eve. Back later x

harassedinherpants · 02/06/2011 17:12

velvet do you have spd?? I had it with dd and it was dire and very painful! I recommend a chiropractor, I found my physio next to useless. She ordered me a support belt, confirmed it was spd and gave me a sheet of exercises. I didn't see a chiro but I wish I had as although the spd disappeared post birth I was left in the most excruciating agony with my sacro iliac joint. It's all linked..... took ages and lots of appointments and money to sort it all out, and my hips still "go" occasionally and I have to be clicked. Luckily my kinesiologist lady is also my chiro so I'm seeing her regularly at the moment.

Lara sorry your mw is a bit crap!! Sounds horrendous actually. You should have got the marmite cheese Grin.

Wombat is it worth looking round hospitals?? Can your current ob/gyn recommend anyone?

Bumpgrowing · 02/06/2011 17:13

Lily you poor thing. How stressful. So glad it was a good outcome in the end though. Don't know if you saw my post yest but they said I wasn't as far along as I thought either and didn't seem worried about me so maybe we're just slow starters on the baby growth spurt!

How your headache gets better and when you wake up you can start to feel a little excited about your super news! Grin xx

harassedinherpants · 02/06/2011 17:14

lily that sounds very stressful, no wonder you have a headache!! I wonder why they did an abdominal scan first, all my scans pre-12 weeks have been fanjo-cam. Anyway...... good news!! So glad for you Grin.

IreneHeron · 02/06/2011 17:16

Dachs and MrDachs you've been in my thoughts today.

Lily good news on the scan and little heart-beating bean. Hope your head feels better soon.

Blackkat that happened to me once when I was a teenager. I felt what I thought was a big moth brush over my face when I was in bed. Put the light on to find a bat on my pillow. I quite like bats though so I didn't really mind. Me and my Mum shooed it out by waving it to one side of the house and opening all the windows on that side and closing the doors to our rooms. It must have got out.

I'm on a countdown to my anomaly scan tomorrow. Hopefully all will be ok and we'll also find out the sex Grin. I'm feeling kicks quite regularly now. I hope it is all ok because it is our 5 yr wedding anniversary tomorrow and I want to be able to remember it for good reasons.

Velvetcu · 02/06/2011 17:30

lily I'm glad the scan was good eventually but I'm sorry it was so stressful. My pre-12 week ones were all fanjocam too.

harasssed it isnt spd because that's only at the front it's now called pgp but essentially its the same and yes that's what I have. Physio was concerned that I have it this bad this early but also just told me to buy suppport belt, use crutches, do exercises etc. She also gave me a long list of things I'm not allowed to do - reach up, reach down, stand, sit, lay down, walk. I don't know how I'm supposed to live. I feel so pathetic but it really hurts! I didn't want to be one of those weak and feeble pg women :(

Irene very exciting about scan tomorrow - good luck :) I'm a bit annoyed that mine isnt til 22 weeks but nevermind. Happy anniversary for tomorrow too.

luckyfor2 · 02/06/2011 17:30

Hello everyone, I haven't been on her for a couple of weeks. Sickness and tiredness starting to pass and its been freaking me out big style but thankfully went for a scan today and everything was fine measuring 12 weeks so I guess its the time for symptoms to reduce. (but for what its worth I think they can start to reduce at around 9 weeks when placenta takes over)

I've been trying to keep reading the thread and to keep up but it really is just so fast on here. I can not believe the Bat IN YOUR HOUSE blackat that would totally freak me out and would definately have to move out until the area had been checked thoroughly (did bring a smile to my face though!)

Velvet I wish I had the urge to clean and tidy everything I used to be like that but since my mcs standards in our house have dropped and the ironing definately needs a good looking at! Sorry about your hips though that sounds nasty.

Don't know who was talking about the car but I have a qashqai and its fabulous good move.

Well done to everyone who have had good scans Smile

I will definately try better to keep up with the thread.

starkadder · 02/06/2011 20:41

Hi there - just came on to say to Dachs that I was thinking of you, your husband and your two babies today.

SadlyNoLongerDiffedDachs · 02/06/2011 20:47

Thanks for the support today

Details: The reading I have copied below. The music was the Aled Jones version of You Raise Me Up, the Glenn Close and Phil Collins version of You'll Be In My Heart, the love theme from the ballet of Romeo and Juliet and the Moonlight Sonata

Do not stand at our grave and weep
We are not there. We do not sleep.
We are a thousand winds that blow.
We are the diamond glints on snow.
We are the sunlight on ripened grain.
We are the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
We are the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
We are the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at our grave and cry;
We are not there. We did not die.

The ceremony was beautiful. The coffins were tiny and heartbreaking but the service was beautiful.

hairylights · 02/06/2011 20:50

(((((Dachs))))))

pigletmania · 02/06/2011 20:53

Oh dachs I just don't know what to say, heartbreaking. You all in my thoughts and prayers. The pieces sound really beautiful and the reading too. Are you going on the holiday like you planned, it sounds nice to get away for a bit.

lily phew that was lucky, very stressful for you but a good outcome.

mamarara · 02/06/2011 23:06

Oh dachs xxx

wombatinwaiting · 03/06/2011 08:06

What beautiful choices dachs. I do hope that you and Mrdachs found comfort in what must have been a heartwrenching day - still thinking of you lots.

wombatinwaiting · 03/06/2011 08:09

Thanks for the tips on ob/gyn choices ladies - I think I'm going to go with her temp recommendation even though it's at the horrid experience hospital as 3 lots of friends really endorse her despite the hospital. The other recommendation I had was for an awful Russian woman ob/gyn who was extremely rough when inserting my IUS and cut the strings way too short which meant extraction was that much more difficult - definitely won't be going with her!

Lara - thanks for offer of bringing stuff over - I'm actually heading back to the UK myself mid July so will pick up some bits and pieces then. Would love to catch up though, so let's PM!

CollieandPup · 03/06/2011 09:03

Dachs thinking of you still x

lily Poor you, your experience sounds awful and terribly stressful, but YAY for great outcome at the end. How are you feeling today?

lucky yay for the great scan for you too. by the way it was me with the qashqai, glad to hear you love yours!

blackkat your bat ordeal made me giggle, especially the midnight dash to mums and dads Smile Think i'd have reacted exactly the same though - probably would have locked myself in the spare room - bean or no bean!

yrmotb how are you feeling today?

wiw glad you're happy with your decision to go with horrid experience hospital, lets hope this time its only happy memories.

V jealous of Dubai meet up - Do the rest of you Northerners want re-ignite the northern meet up idea? Or are blackkat and i flogging a dead horse?? Grin

Well I've had an interesting morning. On a training day today that starts a bit later than normal so took myself off to the gym for a pre-wrok swim. Ended up having a dizzy spell and nearly fainting. They wouldn't let me drive home so DH had to collect me, who then wouldn't let me get the train to work. So i'm at home on the sofa, feeling rather Blush about it all. Still do feel a little hot a flustered. Had the doppler out and hb seems fine - does everyone think i should be fine? Need checking out?

OP posts:
CollieandPup · 03/06/2011 09:18

velvet i also meant to post about your hip. I do remember you mentioning it and thought it sounded terrible. I can't believe the list of don'ts you've been given. As you say, thats just living. I understand your feeling of wanting to stay independent and not wanting to be one of those pg women who can't lift a finger, but you really should take it easy - i think a full day of cleaning and tyding might be pushing the boundaries of what is good for you. I completely understand how frustrating it must be, but you have got a lot more weeks ahead of you yet, and i suspect the more you push yourself now, the worse it will become later.

Can't say i like the idea of a walking stick, but perhaps the belt might help and is more discrete? Have you thougt about seeing a chiropractor for a second opinion/to see if they can help? My DH has had a bad back for years and on the recommendation of a colleague has been seeing one now twice a week for about 6 weeks and feels like a new man.

Take care sweet.

OP posts:
harassedinherpants · 03/06/2011 09:44

Dachs The reading and music are beautiful. You have been constantly in my thoughts x

Velvet mine was spd and that was bad enough, can't imagine what pgp is like! Please do consider seeing a chiro, it's made such a difference to me over the years..... and rest lots. I'm assuming the do's & don'ts are very similar to spd.

Lucky great news on your scan!

Collie hope you're feeling a bit better now. Maybe you just did a bit too much or it was warmer than normal in this lovely weather. If it sets your mind at rest though, then give your mw a ring. That's what she's there for. I def agree with the gym and dh.... you're in the best place today. Btw I fainted with both ds's...... in the middle of town. That was very embarassing!!!

All fine here, just feeling very sick today again. I'm ok first thing in the morning, and then it hits about 45mins after I get out of bed!

luckyfor2 · 03/06/2011 09:56

Dachs your song choices and reading were so beautiful and perfect xx

Collie I think you're definately better off at home for today but I think fainting in pregnancy at any stage is quite normal. I know I had quite a few dizzy spells with DD1 and DD2 - feels strange though doesn't it and totally knocks you off track. I agree with Harrassed if you're worried at all ring your mw. Hope you feel better soon. Did you get the qashqai or the qashqui +2 - we got the +2 as but mainly use it with the back seats up at the moment.
