Newly updiffed and freaking out about spotting, cramping, the wait until your first scan and each little twinge? Settle in for lots of hand holding and supprt until you're ready to move to grads.

Lots of love

MamaP lovely idea.

AanR good luck this afternoon - its awful going back to the same place where you got bad news - but maybe it will excorcise some ghosts too?

I braved the Costa Rican NHS today Confused I figured if I am going to be paying for extra scans I should at least try and get the standard blood tests done for free. Anyone who is pissed of at the NHS read this and hopefully it will make you feel grateful!

Here is how you use the public doctors service.

Get up at 5.30am and queue in the street for 1 and a half hours outside the doctors office. Be prepared to share the pavement with the countries sickest people sneezing all over you, and remember there is no where to sit and no toilets until the doors open at 7.00am.

At 7am a nurse comes out and gives every one a little ticket with a number on, quite often there are not enough tickets for everyone so if you are at the back of the queue you will have to come back and try again tomorrow.

Everyone goes in at once to a tiny room with only 10 seats in it. Numbers are called out and you go and get "processed" which means watching someone tap into a computer for 10 minutes and scrutinising your medical ID card (this system is not free for everyone by the way, only those in paid employment and their families) Once thats done you are given an appointment time for that day which if you are early in the queue will be early in the day. (pregnant women get priority in this bit - thank god!) Then you get to see a rude doctor for 5 mins who asks you about three questions, doesnt let you speak other than to answers the questions, spends 10 mins tapping into a computer and producing 7 or 8 pieces of paper for you to take to 3 different buildings in order to get your tests/scans/next appointment done. SimpleConfused If you have a problem you want to discuss you can either wait till your next appointment or queue up in the street the next day all over again.

Anyway - in more exiting news - I have booked my first scan (eek) - with a nice private doctor who uses the wonderfully modern concept of using the phone to book an appointmentGrin. Its for next Wednesday. I figured I should get this first scan done now, if only to stop me cruising the twins board and letting my imagination get carried away with how many might be in there!

AandRMum · 10/03/2011 15:13

Pink on a wipe .. am booked in for a scan in Monday. Trying not to read too much into it. Will just go put myself in corner and rock gently chanting 'it will be ok'

MummyAbroad · 10/03/2011 15:20

oh AandR it will, it will, I am sure it will.

IreneHeron · 10/03/2011 15:22

A&R, it is only pink, don't panic. Let's hope it doesn't get worse. Good luck [squeezes hand].

Owl ahh yes, the 'smirk like a muppet'. That will be me then.

owlbooty · 10/03/2011 16:22

A&R - it WILL be okay. Get yourself a really good absorbing book - that was about the only thing I found took my mind off the mentalling.

No fish up the nose for you, my lovely.

MummyA that sounds kind of like my GP surgery Grin Now I can see why you sensibly go private!!

katherine2008 · 10/03/2011 16:52

A&R sending you positive thoughts today, and try not to worry too much (impossible I know, but try)

Hils74 · 10/03/2011 17:12

A&R fx it all works out

mamapower · 10/03/2011 17:22

AR (((hugs))) glad you're in for a scan on monday and I hope the wait doesn't drive you crazy, as owl says a good book or perhaps some films to take your mind of things and feet up and relax for the weekend Smile

mummy that sounds like some kind of comedy sketch Grin glad private scan is booked! Yay!

Waves to all sorry my posts are bit limited a the mo, several rounds a day with the business solicitor and conveyancing solicitor on top of tight project deadlines is taking its toll on my already exhausted body!!

PinkFondantFancy · 10/03/2011 18:02

Shock mummya that is mad!!!

aandr big hugs from me - come and join me in my mentalling corner, I've got jelly belly jelly beans!! Good work getting a scan sorted. If it's any comfort, my consultant said that pink spotting is very common and the midwife today said that she reckons that at least 50% of women get spotting, commonly when you would have ovulated or had a period (that doesn't tie up for me but ho hum!)

AandRMum · 10/03/2011 19:08

No more pink since - am hoping I just imagined it. Praying for a hb and me being in the magic 98% safe zone on Monday....

Good luck mamap with sorting out those solicitors. We are smooching with banks at the mo touting for money! All good fun.

mummyA you have the patience of a saint.

AandRMum · 10/03/2011 19:45

There is a great huf house down that way isn't there. We looked at those for a while but I think you need stunning views to do them justice!

AandRMum · 10/03/2011 19:51

Nix architect is a bit snobby about Grand Designs but am sure there will be a lot of press involved! Great news on the wiggles. How exciting!

katherine2008 · 10/03/2011 20:07

A&R is there room for a few more in there with you?! News from Essex - I have booked a private scan for the 31st which would be at 8 weeks (last bean measured about 7 weeks when I had my mmc at 11 weeks). so only 3 more weeks of mentalling to go thank the lord. Sending hugs to everyone who needs one tonight.

KnitterNotTwitter · 10/03/2011 20:34

A&R house is amazing. We're not far away from you SW18 and pass through Kew Green if we're heading for the M4.. Will look out for your building works....

omg

thought I'd watch '23 week babies' which is on the top of the threads of the day.... Can I suggest no-one else does....

I lasted 7 minutes before I wasn't sure if I was going to vomit or sob..

I'm definitely going to have mad dreams tonight.

Too close to the bone for me...

mamapower · 10/03/2011 23:06

nix glad beany was sounding happy in there and great news on the bloods coming back with such a good result. I think you need to listen to your dad and try and relax a little and enjoy it Smile

OrangeGloss · 11/03/2011 07:09

Mummya thanks so much for the link, doesn't work on pesky iPhone so I'll grab the laptop later. NHS sounds a nightmare over there, glad you have a scan booked with a nice dr - oh, I'm hoping for twins :)
Pink good luck today, I hope it shows all is fine. The blood could be from implantation which wouldn't tie in with any dates
Owl it is exciting isn't it? But also scary as it isn't my secret any more
Hils yep bloating is a lovely normal symptom :) my first, apart from nork growth was burping!
Mamap that's a nice thought
AandR I am sure it will be fine, try to relax in the meantime as best you can, I hope Monday comes quickly for you. The house looks amazing!! Wow, so impressed and so Envy :)
Nix great news on the heartbeat and bloods, glad you are starting to relax
Katherine I hope the next 3 weeks go quickly and you get some reassurance

Yesterday for the first time I wasn't sick, which makes me pleased and scared Hmm I saw the dentist who was lovely, but the stoopid nurse said to me "so, did you have your baby yet?" (my DD was 20th April) which prompted a teary call to DH afterwards. The dentist added my new DD in which felt a bit sad for some reason

Short day today, then home to catch up on last nights sleep which should improve my positivity :)
