Right I'm going to ring my miserable mw later this week and badger her for some monitoring and general tlc Grin

tigger sorry you're feeling so rubbish Sad hope you perk up a bit later x

nix and pink just to add to the Eco debate, I used washable nappies for dd and thought they were fab. I'd tried them with ds and didn't get on with them but reckon I just had some rubbish ones...I tried a few different brands with dd and found some really good ones, so will definitely be trying reusables again if we get there!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 21/03/2011 18:40

Huzzah for nixbean I take it you didn't find out what flavour it was? Grin

Emoo · 21/03/2011 19:01

Welcome Iggly and congrats on your BFP! Don't worry about the copious peesticks - that's the norm around here. A while back, we had a comparison where people came clean about how many and where stored... somebody had a drawerful!... it was all very entertaining and I think all you newly updiffed people should do the same

Cep - congrats on your scan! Hopefully you won't bleed again until labour... so your next scan will be 12ish weeks. (There's always private, if you need the reassurance in the meantime).

MamaP - hope all goes well for the scan and the big move... and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

teacake - good luck for Wednesday, and I hope you enjoyed your soup!

Dachs - ooooh another scan buddy (along with mattsmama who really needs to add herself to the list or we might forget her scan!). I sincerely hope it's not twins for me..! DH would have a heart attack, for starters, and given my prem labour history, twins would be a huge additional stress (literally and emotionally). Having said that, my belly sounds like it's bigger than yours at the moment, but feels very squodgy and is clearly lard not baby.

Nix - congrats - another lovely wriggly scan! Glad it all went well.

Welcome back Knitter - hope the Lakes were stunningly beautiful as ever!

I'm with owlie on the all in moderation soapbox!

Izzy - I hope you do get closer monitoring this time. I certainly think you would be justified in getting another scan at 15 weeks, or at least an appointment for them to listen in to the heartbeat. Our hospital have just in the last year changed to the NT scan as the standard 12 week scan - you may find yours has changed too since last time? I think it's been in the guidelines since pre-DD1 (i.e. 2003) but has taken some places a long time to train the sonographers properly.

mattsmama · 21/03/2011 19:02

NIX Great scan news - YAY! Grin Happy Birthday MAMAP

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 19:20

Thanks Izz re the nappy debate i used the biodegradeable disposables (nature babycare?) with DS and only moved on to pampers at about age1 ish... tried washables but he didnt like them. They have improved though from what i can see. Our health care also changed its policy in Jan 2010 re NT making them free, so you may get a surprise :)

we are..... Team yellow :) i won the battle with DH. Sure i could see a winky though Grin just didnt want to know this time. Its not important. Bean is there, its healthy thats all that matters to me this time.

emoo yay for joining on the soapbox will you be monitored more because of your prem history? a friend of mine was classed as high risk because of it.

katherine2008 · 21/03/2011 19:37

Great news about all the scanners - so happy for you. Back from Centerparcs which was brilliant fun - dd had an amazing time, but didn't stop me mentalling all weekend about lack of symptoms. Have convinced myself that it's all going to end the same way as last time especially as it was around now that the last bean stopped growing. So need to smack myself with a fish and get on with it really. sorry so me-me-me. Happy Birthday mamap

Emoo · 21/03/2011 19:49

Nix - MW says I will be referred to "prem prevention clinic" where you apparently have the joys of regular fanjocams to check your cervix is not shortening. Not quite sure when that starts, nor how relevant it will be for me though, as contractions were the problem, not cervix. But we'll see. At least it means that this time if I pitch up to the hospital in labour, the feckers will take me seriously... I think I was just too brave last time, combined with high pain threshold, and rather naive and unassertive... ended up being "under observation", still being falsely reassured nothing was happening right up to being 6 cm, and ended up delivering Emoochick in a hospital with no spare NICU capacity. Great. She got intubated and ventilated and transferred elsewhere in a special ambulance in the middle of the night.

Goodness me, I hadn't realised how bitter and traumatised I still feel about it all until I wrote that... Bloody catalogue of disasters. Thankfully with a good outcome in the end though... and having said that, I need to go and give her a big cuddle.

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 20:02

emoo you are perfectly within your right to be. i have been there with the middle of the night intubated, ventilated newborn baby in the travel incubator..ambulance without his mummy and its harrowing. That image is etched in my mind forever, but like you say without it those babies lives wouldnt have been saved! Without doubt that is what saved my DS's life. They will keep an eye on you this time, plus also you know what to look for, know what to ask and push for and all being well, when you get there emoochick2 will be a different experience :)

You know, for a traumatic birth experience you can go and discuss your case if you feel you need to?

I dont think i will be doing that, but the MW who delivered my son.... wont be delivering no 2!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 21/03/2011 20:08

emoo My friend had that with her 2nd child after going into prem labour at 29 weeks with her first. She just had lots of monitoring, fanjo cam etc. It all went much better for her with the 2nd, a VBAC.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 21/03/2011 20:10

Think it's just covering all bases isn't it.

Velvetcu · 21/03/2011 20:22

Congrats on the scan news cep and nix

Happy birthday mamap

Hello all. We have a powercut on our estate - perfect excuse not to mark books and go to bed instead!

cep · 21/03/2011 20:25

like nix said, making sure you, dh and everyone knows what you want and that they stand up for you if you can't.

thankfully ds birth was ok, i do remember the two mw's debating who was going to stitch me up. "you can do it if you like" "no i did the last one it's fine if you want to do it." "are you sure cause i don't mind" argh just someone effing do it. after all that it was shift change half way through, they left not having numbed it all, next mw came in to finish assumed they'd numbed it and stuck needle in, omg i nearly jumped off the bed. cleaning my tears was almost as painful as the birth.

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 20:29
Shock

I will be here all night if i start... i had 3 different people try and break my water... yep with that damn crochet hook!

Doesnt help now i have started crocheting Grin actually you could class that as therapy hehe! Grin

Hils74 · 21/03/2011 20:43

Congrats on the scans cep and nix, I'm jealous!

Happy Birthday mamap, it was mine yesterday so have had a very busy weekend with the family. They all know about the pg now so it was nice to talk and make plans without trying to remember who didn't know :)

Sorry to say that I am still having my hair coloured and using the same deoderant and moisturiser as before

Hils74 · 21/03/2011 20:45

ouch at your story cep

OrangeGloss · 21/03/2011 20:47

Sunchild I remember you from the other thread too :)
Harrassed congrats and wow at no.4! I had those kind of cramps too, worrying isn't it but is normal I think
Collie sorry to hear about your nan :(
Congrats banana Grin
Mummya I hope the sickness isn't too bad today, sorry it's so time consuming
Emoo not long to wait then until your scan and fitting clothes! Your story sounds awful and very stressful
Velvet yay for BIL leaving date Grin
Iggly congrats and welcome, I hope you are proven wrong by the CP prediction
Cep great news on your scan!!! They still haven't told me heart rate, I only found out at my private scan
Mamap yay for 12 weeks tomorrow! I'm glad you're getting help and resting, but also happy birthday!! Grin
Nix I'm glad to hear the scan went well, that really is a milestone reached. My dh has banned me from buying a Doppler for the same reason. And also good to meet another team yellow Grin
Dachs I wish I could have an hourly checkup to make sure eveything's ok. My bump didn't start until week 14, and now 2 weeks later it's a bit more convincing
Izzy sorry you have a duff MW, I have 2 and one is definitely nicer than the other

Thanks for everyone's comments, it's all appreciated. Boots pharmacist said don't worry, and the nice MW also said don't worry so am making myself not worry! Except that I was a bit stroppy at work today Blush which is very out of character

KnitterNotTwitter · 21/03/2011 20:58

cep [wince] hideous story... my tear was stitched up with Gas and Air which I thought was fairly bold... but with no pain relief...ow!

Re the Nappies debate I'm a committed washable user.. DS used Weenees and FuzziBunz until he toilet trained a couple of months ago... And now I've invested in the things I'll definitely be putting future Knitlets in 'em. I also dry bucketed so no big bucket of poo soup in this house!

I also used washable breastpads which I can't praise enough... Initially used Lilypadz which I think contributed to my thrush... Then swapped to the washables - much nicer than putting cotton wool on your nips.. less drying IMO...

Lakes was amazing - especially saturday - daffodils were out which were beautiful. The group I took seemed to appreciate all my work which was nice too :)

RE Deoderant I use a pitroc which is neither a deoderant or an anti-persperant... Instead it changes the mineral/ph levels of your armpits so that the bacteria that would otherwise make stinkyess out of your sweat can't survive... Started using it before DS was born as I'd read that your natural scent is what babies expect and will therefore settle/bond better if you're not perfumed... Made sense to me!

KnitterNotTwitter · 21/03/2011 23:15

crikey - what are you all doing? no one on here since 9pm.... Hopefully you've all had nice early nights...

I'm off to bed now too so I'll see you all in the morning

PinkFondantFancy · 22/03/2011 06:55

mamap 12 weeks whoop whoop whoop Grin

knitter I tried something similar last year but found that although I didn't smell it didn't stop me sweating , which although I guess is the point, I didnt like having wet marks under my arms-any way around that?

Blimey I am going to have to tap you lovely ladies up for advice in a few months-I was keen to try washable nappies etc but it sounds like a whole new world!!!!

Hope you all have a lovely day. I am knaaaackered-I've got a new routine of annoyingly needing a wee at 5:15 every morning-annoying when the alarm goes off at 6:15 :( I think I preferred the 2am and 4am pitstops!!!

OrangeGloss · 22/03/2011 07:08

Pink I was thinking the same, I haven't a clue. People keep asking me what I've bought and look shocked when I say nothing! I too liked the idea of washable nappies but really don't understand it all

Katherine sorry I missed your post last night (((hugs))) there's no reason why this pg will end the same way, to your body each pg is different. I know it's so hard not worry, but you have time to get lots of lovely symptoms, or you might be lucky and be one of those women that don't have any

ZamMummyInGabs · 22/03/2011 07:55

Can I come in? Got a BFP yesterday at 10dpo. Actually it was neither B nor F, but a line is a line, right? Even if it took 2 brands to get one Hmm
Oh the mentalling!! And I fear this is just the start....
This morning POAS yesterday's brand 1 with FMU - BFN. So bought 2pack of brand 3 after school run, and BFP! Still faint but stronger than yesterday. And temp up again. 11dpo now and
LP normally 10 days max. Got BFP at 10dpo
with DS2 and latest mc.

And have got metal mouth & feel sick (tho that
could very well be the mentalling) Grin Biscuit

Am not even 4 weeks yet Shock Blush

PinkFondantFancy · 22/03/2011 07:57

Katherine sorry I missed your post too. Can definitely identify with the intense mentalling that happens at the stage where it went wrong last time. Do you have a scan booked in? I found that helped a lot because once you've got the doom idea in your head it's very hard to get it back out. Hugs, it's v tough. Xx

PinkFondantFancy · 22/03/2011 07:59

ZAM how lovely to see you!!! What brands are you using? I agree a line is a line-congratulations!! Grin

ZamMummyInGabs · 22/03/2011 08:12

Wow pink 13weeks!! Is it getting easier?
No recognizable brands here in Botswana (3 pharmacists looked blank when I asked re digital) just a large selection of Chinese or South African cheapies for £1.50 or less. Am going to go to lab and get a quantitative HCG later this week, mummya styleee.
Can advise plenty on washable nappies & eBay however....DS1 (nearly 5) has been head-to-toe in eBay since before he was born Grin
