Hello!

Newly updiffed and freaking out about spotting, cramping, the wait until your first scan and each little twinge? Settle in for lots of hand holding and supprt until you're ready to move to grads.

Lots of love

nickster I would agree, but really not before 12 weeks, although each practitioner is different. I was almost registered just couldn't take the exam as was 8 mths prg and they wouldn't let me do the practicals with gloves on and I wouldn't risk some of the oils that I could have been using. Was most annoying!

nix fab news! Hehe just miss your chat, that's all! Glad all is well and the quietness is just because you're turbo busy.

Oh CEP 12 week scan was the first time they'd tell me what the heart rate actually was, up until now they've only been checking there is one.

Mmmmmmm cake

PinkFondantFancy · 21/03/2011 15:06

Weird question-do you reckon it's ok if perfume goes on your skin? All this oils chat made me wonder! I've stopped painting my nails as I've heard bad things about that but no idea if that's rubbish-just didn't really want to take the risk. What do you reckon?

DoubleDiffedDachs · 21/03/2011 15:11

Glad the scan went well nix Grin

I have a feeling this week will go very slowly. No scan until next Wednesday, and I haven't had one since last Tuesday. That's a long time to be scanless when you're mentalling as much as I am. Grin

Does anybody else wish they had some way of monitoring whether everything is ok?

nix I know you were suggesting that it was possible to get Dopplers for home use at one point - did you get one or are you just going for a regular fix with the midwife? (And, before you all start throwing haddock at me, I know you can't hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks so I'm not about to rush out and buy one, I'm just interested!)

pink When did you stop having your weekly scans and how did you manage to cope?

mamap Hope the move goes well! So, when are you inviting all of us for pg friendly canapes and mocktails? Wink

owlbooty · 21/03/2011 15:13

I think most of it is a load of bollocks - we're exposing ourselves to far worse things on a daily basis in the general atmosphere. Pylons, petrol fumes, air fresheners, food additives etc etc. Moderation and sensibleness is that way forwards.

DoubleDiffedDachs · 21/03/2011 15:15

pink I'd reckon most perfume should be ok as it's usually in eau de toilette form and isn't the concentrated oils. If you have the concentrated oils I'm not sure...

owlbooty · 21/03/2011 15:17

Dachs I think as you've got double the trouble going on in there you'll get more monitoring anyway - I wouldn't recommned the home doppler things, I had a bugger of a time finding anything with one. I'd recommend asking your MW if she minds you popping in for a quick fix from time to time (I think that is what Nix has been doing too).

KnitterNotTwitter · 21/03/2011 15:18

Hey lovely ladies I'm back from the Lake District and finally caught up...

Special hello to harassed, banana, iggly and izzy - lovely to have lots more BFP's

Lovely scan news cep, pink, velvet

Daisy definitely think the card is a good idea

over the weekend my bump seemed to pop out so when I got back I was straight into my maternity jeans :) Worlds comfiest item of clothing EVER...

Happy spring days to you all

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 15:28

pink perfumes are fine hon, as is nail varnish!
(certainly in my pregnancy which resulted in DS was fine :) ) Turbo busy is a good way to describe it! Not too stressful, but just lots going on. FT Job/Child/House/Garden & SELF maintenance all taking its toll..less time for GAB! Self maintenance i have started with last week... bugger it, about time i spent some time/money on myself Grin

dachs i have been refused by DH to buy a doppler... he figured it would stress me out beyone belief if/when i couldnt pick it up. One of my friends used one though and swore by it...now i can feel movement its not so much an issue... and the little tinker has been belting me all night and all day today (not much yesterday though) It does get easier as you can feel the movement - so much more reassurement! I go for a fix with the MW when i feel i need some reassurance.

DoubleDiffedDachs · 21/03/2011 15:28

knitter Yay for bump! Grin

I'm still waiting for even the slightest hint of one... :( I thought with two in there it would pop out quite early but so far no sign. And my ordinary clothes aren't even slightly tight yet (although I suppose that could be because I tend to wear trousers that are too big for me anyway).

owl Unfortunately I don't think my midwife would be that accommodating. One appointment so far, and it took her nearly three weeks to fit me for that... Thanks for the info on the home doppler though :)

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 15:31

Get back on that soapbox OWL!!!!!

should we avoid moisturing cream cos its full of petroleum... what about the shite thats in lipstick!?!? and make up!?!?!! ha ha ha.... dont get me started!!!

You could go on forever...

Did you know that johnsons baby products are FULL of petroleum?

PMSL.... i will get off said soapbox now :)

Grin
owlbooty · 21/03/2011 15:41

Aw Dachs - perhaps the next MW you see will be a different one and nicer. The first one I saw was a bit rubbish but the next one was lovely.

I can still get my old jeans on - and do them up - but breathing might then be problematic. There was no bump to speak of until about week 16 I reckon. You wait. When it happens, it will be unmissable Grin

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 15:59

dachs you will suddenly pop out...all at once..then will wonder where it came from :)x

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 21/03/2011 16:17

Yay for nix and cep - fab news!! Grin Grin

And congrats to iggly and banana Grin

Happy birthday mamap !!! Hope you're pampering yourself Smile

I too am amassing a collection of peesticks. If the line's still getting darker by the end of the week i think I'll take the bold step of picking up a pack from the gp to sort out mws - iirc from last time, it was a rather long-winded process and I want to know what scans I can get on nhs. All seems very surreal though!

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 16:20

cripes, re reading my last post makes me look like i am ranting... no so! Just a little giddy i think.

Everything in moderation :) i am a lot more chilled this time than i was the first time for some reason in terms of what you can/cant do. You just want to do everything right... :)

Izz Still cant believe your news! Brill!! They will monitor you more closely this time wont they given what happened? exciting xx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 21/03/2011 16:26

X-posted everyone !!

dachs enjoy being petite while you can, you'll find as soon as it starts to show the bump will grow exponentially and there will be no hiding it!!

I hope you get a nicer mw next time, mine last time was a misery-bum and it was really annoying. That's why I'm thinking of getting in touch quite soon, so I've got chance to talk her into a couple of extra scans and if not then at least I'll have time to arrange private ones!

owl and nix I agree, you could really drive yourself mad worrying about all the "shouldn'ts". Just be sensible that's all but no need to avoid everything. We're exposed to far more chemicals and pollutants in every day life to worry too much about the odd squidge of tiger balm or nail varnish...having said that I did stop having my hair highlighted when I was pg with ds...

wombatinwaiting · 21/03/2011 17:08

What a great Monday - 2 reassuring scans and a birthday! Many happy returns mamap.

Welcome iggly and congrats.

Just going to pop up on that soapbox for a second (after having scoffed yummy battenburg - thanks owl) and say my words of wisdom for the day - everything in moderation, including moderation!

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 21/03/2011 17:08

nix I have a horrible feeling they won't do anything extra, all my mw did last time was moan about funding cuts and tell me not to bother ringing because it would take at least three days to get back to me Angry. If we get that far, I think I'll pay for the NT scan at 12/13 weeks anyway rather than just have the NHS dating scan because I think it's more thorough and I do wonder if they would have picked up something last time because clearly something was badly wrong. What I would like on the nhs is a scan at about 8 weeks and one at 15 when I've got to my danger point (dc3 died at 14 weeks). I'm not holding my breath though, I suspect I'll have to pay for that one too!!

Wombat33 · 21/03/2011 17:10

Izz I'm guessing you've probably still got a way to go on the pee stick mountain to oust our current pee stick queen Dachs Grin

On the chemicals issue, I have to admit to being really contrary Blush. I've stopped painting my nails or using anti-persperant (don't ask me why my crazy brain singled that one out!) or moisturiser on my body for the first trimester. I also stopped colouring my hair but have now started that again at 14 weeks and plan to re-start the varnish and deoderant soon too - the changing weather is going to force my hand on both those! I just avoided randon chemically things for the first few weeks, just in case. But I think it's much more about making me feel calmer than about what's actually good for the bean.

Oh, I also switched to eco-friendly washing powder etc, but now even the merest whiff of that stuff makes me want to hurl as its associated so strongly with morning sickness in my mind!

PinkFondantFancy · 21/03/2011 17:12

dacha this will be my first week with no scan coming up in the immediate future!! I have no idea how I'm going to cope except I keep chanting to myself that no news is good news.... Ps. They mean it at the Fetal medicine centre when they say you don't need a full bladder-I had to go for a wee twice cos they can't see anything if your bladder is full.

Thanks for the nail varnish fish slap-I think being pregnant definitely makes you lose perspective on stuff!

PinkFondantFancy · 21/03/2011 17:15

Oh I did change to non aluminium deodorant, and aveeno moisturiser which has no fragrance. But like you say, probably no point.... Grin

tiggersreturn · 21/03/2011 17:18

Dachs - I'm also not really showing and that's with a c-sec and 2nd child. I only have one skirt I can't wear.

No scans for 7 weeks now (nearly 8 as it's a friday one). But I do have a hospital appt on wed so maybe they'll try and do it then for luck [scan].

Vomited again today at work and feeling a bit unwell so have had to cancel evening plans Sad

nickstermum · 21/03/2011 18:20

Hey no slappage Grin pink

I have never even thought of BO basher tbh...i havent coloured my hair tho [grey emoticon], nor used my facial hair bleach and generally use eco washing powders anyway... but like izz says there are so many other exposures anyway, it probably doesnt make a difference! But, you do whats right for you :) (be interested what your thoughts are on nappies and baby products? DSis trying to get me to use washable nappies... and i just cant get on with them!!))

wombat that was me during my first pg, oils on skin only for stretchies, etc etc etc... this time i am much more chilled about it:)

Izz one of the ladies on the charters grads (spilt, i think you know her?) late MC 'd and she is being monitored much closer than usual if its any consolation.

DoubleDiffedDachs · 21/03/2011 18:27

nix I'm going to use disposable nappies even though I know DSIL will frown upon the decision - washables have just as large an environmental impact because of all the washing, and a lot of the stuff they use in disposables these days is biodegradable anyway... (Plus, I can't be bothered with all that washing stuff - just give me a nappy bin to chuck it into! Grin )
