A continuation of so many threads spent waiting to ttc that I've completely forgotten what number thread we're on.

If you're waiting to ttc, stop by and say hello! Smile

Wish I drunk, but think I may have to go and buy an unholy amount of chocolate later.

Thanks for the sympathy. So nice to have somewhere to come and talk to people who understand.xxx

JustShaggingForNow · 10/02/2011 11:59

Ooooh - chocolate is a very very good idea. x

DizzyKipper · 10/02/2011 12:05

No it doesn't sound stupid Capreece, can totally relate as I've been where you are. fwiw Lidl does an extremely nice bar of chocolate for only 29p at the moment, 100g of milk chocolate Fin Carre and it is a lot nicer than Cadbury's Wink

Capreece · 10/02/2011 12:29

Well, tbh - with all the money i save on the gin i thought i might go nuts and buy a couple of bars of Lindt with sea salt. Surprisingly nice. That's if i can tear myself away from sofa, hot water bottle and darling upside-down cat...

bebejones · 10/02/2011 16:39

Oh Capreece - doesn't sound silly at all! Much sympathy & hugs!

Consultants was a waste of time. Feel fed up & cross. Completely pointless! Angry Oh and landed the bombshell that should I get pregnant they would monitor me along with the consultant obstetrician! News to me!!! Always always been told I wouldn't need monitoring & that I'd be treated just the same as any other pregnant lady! Hurumph!! :(

BabyMaking2011 · 10/02/2011 19:18

galaxy with cookie pieces or lindt with caramelised almonds- nom nom nom this is day 4 of dieting- chocolate withdrawal :(

on a brighter note, yesterday was officially my last pill taking day. still not ttc til about june, but still very exciting!

minipie · 10/02/2011 19:29

hello all!

Capreece, congratulations on the job, commiserations on the AF... I can highly recommend the Lindt with flaked toasted almonds, it's amazing

Bebe, sorry to hear about your consultant appointment. What does monitoring mean exactly... would it be very intrusive or just a couple more check ups during pg? hopefully wouldn't be too bad?

Babymaking, I took last pill last week, with aim of ttc'ing in May/June! it is exciting (bizarrely!) Though now a friend has told me that I should stay on it till May because "you get a surge of fertility when you come off the Pill" so I should save it for then.

Hmmm. What's everyone's views on this "surge of fertility when coming off the Pill" thing? Myth or real?

JustShaggingForNow · 10/02/2011 19:35

not sure about the fertility surge alough I do know of a couple who got stuck on honeymoon thanks to the ash cloud last year. She ran out of her pill and has just given birth!

I came off mine 11 months ago and my cycles are still all over the place. Think it's down to the individual really.

Just done a run now stuffing face with Green & Blacks white chocolate and off for a hot Bath. May take laptop with me so I can watch catch up TV in there!! Then it's early to bed for me as I have to be up at 5am tomorrow to get to my 8am meeting - JOY!!!

Bebe - sorry to hear about the dissappointing appointment. What a pain in the arse. what would the extra monitoring mean? could it be a positive thing?

bebejones · 10/02/2011 19:37

Monitoring - would mean I'd be listed under consultant care so probably wouldn't be allowed to go to the local MLU which I really wanted 2nd time round. I'd fight for it though if it came to it. Just didn't want to be poked and prodded anymore than necessary, I've had enough of that over the last couple of years!

Re the pill thing (no experience) it has been massively debated, I think IIRC conclusions that were drawn were that there is most likely a spike but that leaving it for a few months makes it easier to identify your cycle and EDD.

bebejones · 10/02/2011 19:39

Re chocolate Lindt white with coconut is fab for yummy indulgent sickliness :o

minipie · 10/02/2011 19:52

Hmm, Bebe, that does sound a pain. Hopefully you would get an enlightened consultant who would be happy with the MLU. Is it attached to a hospital?

Still can't decide re the Pill. Quite like the idea of my body being off it and hormonally "normal" for a few months before TTC (been on it for 12 years!) plus there's the identifying cycle times thing. On the other hand, quite keen on the spike thing... would be so lovely to get pg quickly in June.

bebejones · 10/02/2011 20:36

Unfortunately MLU is separate, any emergency involves blue lighting 20mins in an ambulance! It's such a lovely place though & I spent 5 days there postnatally after I had DD (transferred there from big hospitals dire post natal word) just wish I had actually managed to give birth there! Holding onto that, will fight for it!

Capreece · 10/02/2011 20:51

Hubby and I have set the definitely TTC date for May/June too. Guess we'll all be in it together. Think I might make appt to see GP tomorrow as I have some concerns re: possible PCOS and I want to get that sorted first

Feel better now I have a plan. Thanks all

cherrypiew3 · 10/02/2011 21:43

evening all,

Not sure whats wrong with me today but my stomach feels awful and there seems to be lots of pg ladies around me at the momentEnvy

Bebe I have had to go under consultant care with all 3 of my pg and will again with my next one i have asked if i can give birth on MLU and have always been told no not if you are under consultant care and although i have to give birth on a consultant ward its not to bad and the hostpital deals more with the pg side of things instead of the midwife which can be a pain if travelling far, on the upside you might get some more scans which is always a good thing.

BabyMaking2011 · 11/02/2011 08:43

minipie i also like the idea of getting things back to normal for a few months to see how the land lies. you hear of so many people (on here!) who come off the pill and their periods have gone awol. I'm quite intriued by the tep charting going on so have bought a thermometer with a view to keeping an eye on it so that i dont get preggers before june and then so i DO get preggers asap after then :)

Capreece · 11/02/2011 09:03

Maybe we should start a group just for TTC from June :-D Seems like there's a few of us - guess 28 is the critical age

Got Doctors appt this morning. Going to see if there's anything I need to get checked before trying (cervical smear? STI check just in case? Who knows?)

At least it feels I'm doing something towards it.

Bebe - if I may ask, why have you been under consultant care? Don't worry if you don't want to tell :-)

bebejones · 11/02/2011 10:51

Capreece - I have MS so need to see neurologists on a reasonably regular basis! Prob every 6-9 months although they are so busy it's been about a year, but I see the specialist nurses more. They are quite happy that I'm doing really well (Been 9 months nearly since my last relapse) and I don't really have any day to day symptoms & I'm in quite good health (MS wise). So don't need to see anyone else til Dec! :)

Going to 'work' on DH in the desperate hope that I'll be upduffed by then!

minipie · 11/02/2011 11:11

Mmmm Capreece I'm 30... so a little behind you I guess!

Would be interested in what the doctor says to you about "things to do before TTCing". I haven't been to see a doctor, I am actually pretty clueless about the whole thing (well obviously I know the basics Wink). For example I don't know when I should start taking folic acid and all that.

bebe - remind me, what's your DH's objection to TTCing right now? seems like if you are doing well health wise at the moment, this would be a good time... ?

JustShagging, I also know a woman who got pg v quickly after coming off the pill... And I gguess the "surge" would explain why it's supposed to be quite risky if you miss a couple of pills... Still, though, I think I'll stay off, see what my body does.

Capreece · 11/02/2011 12:31

Well I was due a smear at the end of this year, so she recommended I bring it forward to just before we start TTC. She said no need for anything else (since I'm symptom free and have been with DH for so long) except to start taking folic acid. I think they recommend starting taking it from 6 weeks before conception, but I've started already because I had a pill slip up and I'll probably just keep taking it... it's not like it costs a fortune or anything :-) Better than risking neural tube defects.

Oh, she also said to cut down alcohl/caffeine/smoking etc now, but since my only vices are chocolate (not too harmful) and sex (essential for this purpose) I don;t really need to give anything up ;-)

Oh well - have a few more months to lose a bit more weight :-) Or at least get a bit more fit.

Oh - and you're all horrible women, btw. I was in the supermarket and saw the Lindt choccie with almonds and had to buy a bar since it came so heavily recommended. If I end up with yet another chocolate addiction I shall blame you all forever!

Bebe - glad to hear you're doing so well. I've some experience of chronic health problems and 9 months clear must be a real boost :-)

Minipie - 30 isn't so very far behind :-) How old is your chap?

candyshop · 11/02/2011 15:15

Capreece, interesting to hear what your doctor said about things to do before TTC... I have a smear test coming up anyway, but could really do with cutting down on the other things you mention (except chocolate Grin) I'd quite like to lose a bit more weight before then too, but part of me feels like whats the point when I'm going to pile it all back on again! I definitely want to be fitter though. I was also wondering about when would be best to start on the folic acid, so good to know now that its 6 weeks, will start taking it in 6 months or so Smile

bebejones · 11/02/2011 15:46

I always thought it was 12 weeks for folic acid? Then for another 12 weeks when you are upduffed! Confused

Re my DHs reasons for waiting... who knows?! He doesn't!! Hmm Most recently he has announced that he might not want anymore children ever! Not sure thats really the case TBH! Think it's work stress!

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 11/02/2011 16:55

Hey Ladies.

Capreece Sorry about AF - hope you feel better soon.

Bebe Shame about consultant, do you think they can monitor you thru pregnancy and if all is okay you can still go to MLU?

To all those who've come off their pill - hopefully your cycles will even out in time for June.

Well my GP said I must have a healthy diet, no alcohol, start taking folic acid, and I can continue on my Evening Primrose Oil.
With regards to my meds, I can stay on everything bar my diclofenac and Adalat, which i've stopped today.

Tonight will be my last big drinking nite, and then will focus properly from then.
Hoping my DR will allow me to go to the MLU here in Petersfield, really don't want to go to QAH.

minipie · 11/02/2011 17:54

Ooh 12 weeks before TTC for folic acid? Well that's almost now for me then! yup, basically now! oo-er.

anything else I should be taking? what else is conception/healthy foetus related?

No alcohol?! seriously? for how long before TTC? or just when actually TTCing?

bebe so sorry to hear your DH is not being positive ... I have told my DH he is not allowed to go backwards in enthusiasm terms, if he says yes to something (or even maybe) he cannot then revert to no... Bizarrely he seems to accept this!

Capreece he's 31. So in his head, he's really very young Grin

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 11/02/2011 18:08

same as taking your Folic Acid WRT alcohol Minipie

bebejones · 11/02/2011 19:06

For the Men, Zinc supplements are good for helping produce healthy sperm & aid sex drive! Hmm

My general feeling on supplements for TTC is folic acid on it's own for 2 months then switch to pre-natal vitamins for the month before TTC & the first 12 weeks. Personal preference though!

That being said I take alot of supplements anyway. Iron, Multivits with some Folic Acid, High Strength vit D, Omega 3 & Glucosomine. Anymore & I'd rattle! :o

Can't do anything about DHs 'resolve'. He is very stubborn & strong willed, if he says 'No' it usually means NO! Unfortunately I can't get pregnant on my own! Just waiting for my mum to get on his case, she knows what's going on. She actually asked me straight out if I was still 'happy' being with him & would I feel better if I left! Shock Bit of a surprise, she's a Vicar!!
