Hello,

So, I've been TTC on and off for TWO BLOODY YEARS!!!!! And am going to the doctors next week. However, I am the eternal optimist and will be SWI like the best of them for the next few weeks before I start symptom spotting again. Grin

Come and join me and lets see who gets lucky this month!

(But pretty please let me be one. I mean, I am starting the thread, those are the rules aren't they?

iwilldothis It was bad during my pregnancy, started as sciatica at about 12 weeks but then progressed to me getting a physio referral and crutches at about 26 weeks I think. I managed with my crutches because DS1 was nearly 3 by then and could walk everywhere, but I needed a wheelchair for going round a supermarket, and I just didn't go anywhere else which involved walking any distance. Funnily enough, I was OK with driving until quite late on, and I was super lucky in that it passed pretty much as soon as DS2 arrived. I still had twinges for a while though, as you say, when carrying things and pushing trolleys, and once when I forgot and ran from the house to the car - I stopped pretty quickly when I had the shooting pains!

I think I'd manage, you see, especially as I'd know what symptoms to look out for this time round, and I know so much more about treatment and managing options. The other thing that puts my DH off is that I had high blood pressure the last couple of weeks of my last pregnancy, but it turned out I was coming down with chickenpox and so the doctors etc put it down to that once it came out!

DS1 was 2 years 4 months when I had my BFP for DS2, and I managed with help from DH.

It's a hard decision. I kind of just want to leave it to fate, but I'm veering so much! I should probably just get myself over the the ditherers thread!

knittymum · 04/02/2011 13:47

busyboysmum My two are also 9 and 6, so again a big age gap. They really are very considerate kids though, and so without meaning to imply that I intend to turn them into housework slaves (hmm, that's a thought Wink!), I think they'd do their best to be helpful if it were needed on a temporary basis. I think DH is just worried more about it becoming a long term disability if we were to tempt fate again.

Bless you with being poorly. I hope that you're feeling better soon and that you have a lovely POAS type surprise soon!

LoveInAColdClimate · 04/02/2011 13:55

Ooooh, I actually do have a funny metallic taste... and I gagged last night when I held the little metal film bit you peel off the top of plastic milk bottles in my mouth to free up my hands. But would frankly be a miracle if this led anywhere as haven't had Implanon out long and have not really had enough SWI at the right time...

busyboysmum · 04/02/2011 18:18

I am definitely feeling metallic and tingly - does anyone else get that tingly feeling when things are happening? Just me??

Knittymum - housework slaves, great idea, sadly I can't see it with mine but they are fantastic with their little cousin who is 1 - they absolutely love him so much and find him totally fascinating. Really lovely to watch how sweet and gentle they are with him.

I have too much time on my hands at the moment Grin

lucylookout · 04/02/2011 18:49

No metallic tastes but definitely irritable Angry and hungry. Only 2dpo so clutching at straws but could be an early sign!? Or then again maybe I'm just a bit moody today Hmm

I had SPD too first time round, although I have conveniently forgotten the pain, although its effects still haven't completely gone away (can't get dressed standing up; have to sit down to put knickers, trousers on etc).

katieCustard When's your doctor's appointment? Do you know what they are going to be checking for initially?

Loveinacoldclimate did the neighbours escape your monthly urges!? Will your DH be around more over the weekend? I don't know about you, but when my DH is indisposed, for whatever reason, I find myself thinking about turkey basters far more than I should! Now that really would slam the door on romance.

Hello to everyone else. So are we all on the 2WW now or is there still some swi to do?

LoveInAColdClimate · 04/02/2011 19:57

lucylookout - the neighbours escaped by the skin of their teeth! DH is now at home but engrossed in the rugby - have high hopes for after the game, though, and temperature has still not gone up so you never know Grin. Although the latter fact really does make my metallic taste and gagging even more imaginary (or at least unpregancy related) Grin. So still some SWI for me this month - I hope.

I hope your irritability translates into some baby activity Smile.

knittymum · 04/02/2011 20:05

lucyLookout My DH seems to be enjoying the SWI even if he's not clear on whether it's with or without intent! I've not been charting or testing for ovulation so I'm not really sure where I am. But yeah, 2 weeks until AF's due so I suppose I am!

Do you have any thoughts as to how you'll manage the SPD this time round?

BusyBoysMum I've been with my husband since we were 17, and given how unprepared he was for anything to do with cooking or cleaning when he left home, I've started teaching mine young! At the moment they love to help, especially (bizarrely) with cleaning basins and the bath! Oh, and they also love to do laundry. Long may it last because I'm most certainly not a tidy person!

lucylookout · 04/02/2011 20:14

Knitty I inadvertently made the SPD much worse by doing things like yoga (lots of leg spreading and stretching of pelvic area) and swimming (breast stroke) so if when I get a bfp, all thoughts of having a fit and sporty pregnancy will fly out the window. I'll crack open the biscuits and slob in front of daytime TV as much as possible. I'm sure that'll do the trick!

Busyboys I admire your relaxed approach. I've stopped telling DH when we need to be swi as it sometimes caused performance issues. Instead I use a stealthy approach, although DH is not stupid, and I'm sure if he paid attention to how my sexiest underwear gets brought out of the drawer around day 12, without fail, every month, he'd put 2 and 2 together Blush Very impressed with your helpful young men though. DS is only 3 but he's never happier than when dragging shopping bags down the hall to me in the kitchen and handing me each item, one at a time to put away, not to mention pressing any flashing buttons available on dishwasher/washing machine. Everything takes that bit longer but I'm sure it's all good training in the long run!

knittymum · 04/02/2011 20:33

Lucy SPD does seem to be one of those things which you on the whole don't know about until you've got it, doesn't it? And I'd imagine that a lot of people would assume that yoga and swimming would have to help with joint pain, so have probably been in the same boat. If I get my BFP, I'm getting straight on the interweb to look up maternity belts, and at the first twinge I'd get a referral to the antenatal physio lady I saw last time. Oh, and crack open the biscuits and settle onto the sofa for the duration! Our corner sofa already has a me-shaped dent in it, no harm in making it a bit deeper!

busyboysmum · 04/02/2011 20:38

Knitty such a good idea - my 9 year old son still loves playing sock snap with me - in fact we had a thoroughly enjoyable game of it only last week. Basically we have a massive pile of unpaired socks in our loft where our washing gets hung out and you scrabble through it before triumphantly shouting "matching pair" - of course he is far far better than it than me! Wink

Lucy dh is so delighted that I am back on board with sexual urges that I don't want to spoil it for him - we had a bit of a fallow patch after I got made redundant (I think with hindsight maybe I was a bit depressed) - so although we are TTC there is no pressure whatsoever and this is the first month that I have done those tests where it tells you when you are ovulating. But I have done them in secret to try to keep things fun for him.

knittymum · 05/02/2011 05:51

Oof, didn't know this already but on reading the ClearBlue website (hmm, maybe that should go in the questionable TTC behaviour thread??) apparently I could test on Valentine's Day as that's 4 days before AF is due. Don't know why, that made me feel a little shaky and panicky!!

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/02/2011 07:07

Oooh, knittymum, how fab a present would a Valentines BFP be? How exciting!

grottielottie · 05/02/2011 08:54

I'll be testing on valentines day too knittymum as that's when I'm due. I'm not really into valentines on the whole but I'm sure a bfp would be all I need to shake the valentine grinch out of me.

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/02/2011 15:11

Hmmm, can't decide whether I should drink tonight (going to a birthday party). Think it's pretty unlikely that anything has happened this month as did not manage SWI on any of the right days but you never know... although in the circumstances I suspect a glass of wine won't hurt...

lucylookout · 05/02/2011 17:50

It's a toughie isn't it loveinacoldclimate. i'm sure a glass or two won't hurt. Tbh so convinced was I that I wasn't pregnant with ds, i went out and got completely hammered a couple of days before af was due. Doesn't seem to have done him any harm! Have a good night out x

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/02/2011 18:01

Thanks, Lucy - yes, think will have a glass of wine (perhaps the imaginary baby will like it?). Have a nice evening!

busyboysmum · 05/02/2011 19:54

Oooh well ds1 was due on Valentines Day so maybe there will be a lovely fatey tie-in there (or not)

I'd have a glass of wine, I had a friend who didn't know she was pregnant until she was 6 months gone (find it amazing myself) but it was true. So she had had all sorts of wild evenings out - but he was fine, is a lovely young man now.

How is everyone today? It has rained here all day long - had to take ds2 to his football match and we all got soaked!!

knittymum · 05/02/2011 21:41

Not too much rain, but really strong winds. Also had pounding headache and feeling sick most of the day. Ick!

I've almost decided that I'm going to be strong and wait until AF is at least due, if not late before testing. Do any of you have thoughts on cheap tests as compared with the more expensive branded ones?

busyboysmum · 05/02/2011 21:52

I haven't tested much as I have usually got af before I cracked but I do remember with my 6 year old getting the cheap ones off ebay - got nothing from it but was convinced I was pg. After 10 mins I fished it out of the bin where I had chucked it in disgust and there was a pink line on it!! I know that is no help whatsoever but I think if you are pregnant the cheap ones will work, just if you can't wait I believe the more expensive ones pick things up earlier.

I'm also going to be strong and wait so I have two free pg tests I got a couple of months ago in my drawer and am going to use them.

knittymum · 05/02/2011 22:02

Tesco have an offer on Clearblue until the 15th! Hmm, will be strong! If I am I still will be on the 18th!

I didn't even think about it with DS2, to be honest. We'd planned to start 'trying' after the Christmas, and spend the autumn getting healthy and eating properly, but then by the end of August I unexpectedly got the BFP. I just remember shaking with the shock!

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/02/2011 22:19

Hmmmmm, inadvertently had 3 glasses of wine, but in bed early so at least imaginary baby is getting plenty of rest. Nausea and headache sounds positive, knittymum, even if not very nice to experience! I have a load of eBay cheapie tests but will resist until AF is actually late... or at least due!

knittymum · 05/02/2011 22:32

Love I love how careful we're all being with our imaginary babies! Yeah, I suppose unlikely to be morning sickness at CD19, and I'd rather not get any practise in with that! Much more likely because I've been trying to cut back on my caffeine intake to take care of IB (imaginary baby!).

q2011 · 06/02/2011 04:25

just found this thread, im testing on the 16th my 35th birthday, this is 4th cycle ttc after mc in aug, used pre-seed this time too!

LoveInAColdClimate · 06/02/2011 08:48

Hello, q2011 - hopefully this will be your month (and obviously also everyone else's!).

How's the nausea and headache, knittymum? I have not cut down on caffeine at all - don't drink coffee but do drink about 6 cups of tea a day, so I probably should. I like Rooibos tea so should just switch to that for every other cup or something.

IB (imaginary baby) woke me up very early this morning needing a wee - definitely early pregnancy symptoms and not the 3 glasses of wine at all!

babybythesea · 06/02/2011 09:10

Ok, so having promised myself I wouldn't buy any HPTs until the time was right and AF hadn't appeared (so as to save money by not testing before I've even ovulated, 'just in case' and therefore using hundreds of the things), I weakened. As I oh-so-casually wandered past them on the weekly shop yesterday, I though 'Hey, since I'm here and everything, what's the harm, really?' and before you know it the packet has somehow made its way into my trolley. Then I had to deal with DHs amused resignation while I tried to defend myself (knew I should have hidden them better). But I will have the will power this time to resist doing one before Feb 17th. No, I really will. My new extra strong will power should be arriving mail order on Monday - if only I can last until then!!
