Glittering seductively in the evening sun, crewed by swarthy slaves, waited on hand and foot by bare-chested manservants bearing a rudimentary form of gin.

We have golden temples decorated with hieroglyphs for sacrificial offerings (and woo from the soothsayers) if required, and The Pit is full of asses? milk.

So, put on your eye make-up that goes out as far as your ears and jewellery so weighty it leaves dents in your head and step out to survey the peasants on the banks.

'Course I'm an 'art 'earted caaah who rode her horse at 6.5 months diffed too. Grin

Ivegotmrbitey · 14/11/2010 20:20

skihorse=DBH! I've never done snowy sports before so there will be quite a lot of falling over, do you expert BESHes have any tips? I surf so my balance isn't too bad...

rocketleaf · 14/11/2010 20:28

Fancy going balls deep bitey? I'm selling by board, boots and bindings :o No idea about skiing but if you are boarding then I would recommend impact shorts, you will be falling over A LOT and also sitting on your arse quite a bit so not only do they protect your bum they give you a bit of extra insulation :o Plus if you, at all, have weak knees or ankles then wear supports, it's a bugger on your joints until you get the hang of it.

LadyGoneGaga · 14/11/2010 21:51

Well it's a bit like surfing, Bitey. Only with none of that tiresome catching waves malarkey making your arms ache. And bit harder when you fall. But muchos fun. Mind I'm a skier, not a boarder.

Muser · 14/11/2010 23:00

I went on my first skiing holiday in January bitey and it was ace. The boarders seemed to spend a lot of time falling off the drag lifts, and just generally falling over. But my ski instructor did say you got good at boarding quicker than skiing, but you fell over a lot more while learning.

I am really quite scared of heights but skiing was just fab. My friends are all planning another trip in Feb/March time, right when I'm due. Gutted.

Muser · 14/11/2010 23:03

Also milano, I waited for droid after my miscarriage, but only because I was a bit confused by what was going on as I never actually missed a period. You don't have to wait. If you feel like taking a bit of a break then do, but equally if you don't just go for it.

milanomum · 15/11/2010 07:45

Fanks ladies. The weird thing was that the mc came when my period would have been due (at 6 weeks) but not had ovulation signs yet (which I get 99% of the time) so might ov later than usual. I'm being very relaxed about it this month because it would be more convenient if I were to get updiffed next month (probably miraculously updiffed already after saying that).

As for skiing, I have done it twice and loved it both times but not enough to go out and buy all the stuff and do it every year. I'm a bit lazy about it all to be honest. It takes so much effort... Wink
alps and gaga what do you do with the mini-yous when you are skiing? That's been my excuse for not doing it for the past 2 years!

milanomum · 15/11/2010 07:46

oh and went to look at the August bus for a nosy hence the pantsnot-bus combo!

LadyGoneGaga · 15/11/2010 08:02

They have nurseries in most ski resorts, Milano. Last year therer was an on site one in out hotel. They get to play in snow, make snowmen, sledging etc so fun for them too.

In fact a company I know in Champoluc (so close to you) are offering free child care for first two weeks in Jan - they're meant to be really good. Let me know if you want details.

AlpinePony · 15/11/2010 08:18

bitey As a surfer you'll find it a piece of piss and unlikely to fall. I'm a rider (and child gymnast Wink) so have good balance and my sister went for the first time a few years ago and took to it v easily - again, a rider. I don't fall v often tbh - but when I do they're bad ones. Just try not to land on your uterus. Seriously, you have to pierce your uterus in the first trimester to dislodge it. I tend to fall on my arse/head.

milano I'm staying at a Mark Warner chalet where there's an on-site nanny - no schleping him around town before getting on the lift. Dressed, breakfast and then hand him over! Grin It is quite expensive though because he's not old enough for "creche", I think it's 285 a week because it's 1 nanny per 2 babies. However, you can get a mn discount, book last minute or use your SCGB membership discount. cunty is using the "grandmother service".

Ivegotmrbitey · 15/11/2010 09:36

try not to land on your uterus Grin

Thanks for the advice all! rocket I have (ahem) quite a lot of natual padding in the arse area will the addition of impact shorts take it to comedic proportions? Also knees are truly rubbish and I would never have thought of supports so thanks!

I am feeling rather hopeful this month, here are my symptoms (and more likely explanations):
Fainted in tesco (was rather hungover)
Have had horrendous heartburn since Thursday (have eaten very bad things including cold chilli pizza, moussaka, chorizo all washed down with meal deal chardonnay)
Massive buzzwams that are killing me (not unusual for PMT)
Managed two pages of a Jodie Picoult book before crying inconsolably for ten minutes (well it was very sad)
Roll on Wednesday!

AlpinePony · 15/11/2010 09:41

bitey Ah yes, natural bum padding. Tbh, this seems to improve balance - what is it they say? Weebles wobble but they don't fall down? Yes, well that may've been funny 20 years ago at school - but now at 36 years old and as an expert skiier who doesn't fall over - bums to you haterz! Wink JB uses impact shorts because he has no arse to speak of. I prefer not to pad out my largest area... Hmm

Your symptoms are very interesting. Crying at crap? Eating crap? Drinkign crap? Fainting in a crap supermarket? How does your cervix feel?

AlpinePony · 15/11/2010 09:42

Btw princessboo - I think I tried to friend you on fb last night, but didn't put a personal message in. So it's MEEEEEEE in case you were wondering. If it's not you - then I've just tried to friend some random woman on interweb. Oh well.

Ivegotmrbitey · 15/11/2010 09:51

skihorse how should my cervix feel? This is a new one to me!

AlpinePony · 15/11/2010 10:01

haha I have no idea - but apparently the shape, position and feel of your cervix can give you information. Personally I just know whether mine is there or not! Wink

Ivegotmrbitey · 15/11/2010 10:12

Will have to google that when I get home, think it may be a bit risky on the work computer! If it is anything like the rest of me it will probably say that it feels a bit hungover Blush

rocketleaf · 15/11/2010 10:18

bitey probably will take it to comedic proportions but you will be thankful. :o TBH the knee thing was my downfall as I kept twisting mine on day one/two and having to have days off to re-cooperate thus slowing my learning down and wasting precious snow days!

The first thing they will teach you is 'skating' this is using the board with one foot attached in and then using the other to shove along like on a skate board. this sounds ok unless you fall, as you stay still and the board keeps going taking your foot with it and twisting your knee. Its fine once you get the hang of it and is essential for getting on and off chair lifts etc. but just be very careful when you are first doing it, esp if you have dodgy knees. Mind you as you surf you have a head start on this as your balance will be fine.

Also as muse mentioned button lifts are bloody hard on a snow board as they are designed for skiers. Again you just need to practice (or give up and jog up the nursery slope like I did :o)

Might be a good idea to get a taster session on a dry slope or indoor slope here before you go, we did that so at least we weren't complete noobs.

rocketleaf · 15/11/2010 10:23

the shape, position and texture of your cervix change from closed, low and firm to open, high and soft when you ovulate. Not sure if it does it with everyone but its supposed to stay high and soft if you are diffed (but will feel 'closed' again)

However, if you haven't been checking it regularly you won't know if it is high or low as you wont have anything to compare it to.

rocketleaf · 15/11/2010 10:24

:o

LadyGoneGaga · 15/11/2010 10:27

Bitey. I'm very sorry, . I broke our pact.
