TTC #2

Hi all,

Having just frightened myself a tad by reading the thread about those struggling to conceive number 2, I was thinking of starting a thread for those of us just starting out on this journey. I'm really hoping we won't have trouble conceiving, but I'm a pessimist!

Does anyone want to hold my hand through this process (I'm hoping for a short time only!).

To give you a little more detail, I've got one ds who is 2.5, and we want to TTC #2 between now and December if possible. The reasons for such a short time frame are that I'm on a short contract with work, and I need to get pregnant in order to still qualify for maternity pay from them (I can do this if the due date is anywhere up to 11 weeks after finishing with them). Not very interesting really, but rather a lot of pressure. If we don't conceive within this time frame (which of course I'm feeling pessimistic about!) then we will have to wait another year. And I really don't want to do that!!!

So, come on, anyone else planning for #2 soon?

I don't think any lube will interfere with the ovulation monitor, as that is monitoring your hormone levels. But some standard lubes aren't sperm friendly, so you might want to switch to a sperm friendly one like pre-seed or conceive plus when your at your most fertile.

Just wondering if any of you are on the website Fertility Friend? I know I asked this on the other thread for those TTC in Nov/Dec, but I think it's a really fab website especially if you don't mind getting a bit obsessed!!! If you look at my page here and select to register by clicking on the 'Join No, Free' button at the top on the right, I'll get some extra VIP days (the VIP features are fab IMO, but the basic package which is completely free is also pretty good if you just want to chart your cycles and work out roughly when you're at you're most fertile). They also send you some informative email 'lessons' about how to monitor your fertility (without using a fertility monitor like clear blue, but your natural fertility signs). I think it's a fab way of really getting in tune with your body.

No, I'm here... Just sneaking in.

TTC#2 (DD is 2.4) - I'm pretending to be quite casual about the whole business, but secretly registering on recommended Fertility Friend and counting days.

Only came off mini-pill in august, but here's hoping! My cycles have always been 28-30 days. Now 3 days late, and can't help desperately hoping!

I know, I know, my hormones are still unsettled and the chances are slim to none, but it's happened before, hasn't it? Tell me it has! Grin

Hi ladies can i join even though i have actualy been ttc for 5 months allready Sad

I have dd who is 22 months and was concieved in 2 months! so am a bit sd to say he least that i am just entering cycle number 6.

I am going to go buy concieve plus Grin

ovumahead · 19/10/2010 21:23

Hello to you both! MrsNoggin I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you - I'm sure you're in with a good chance! Please let us know as soon as you do a test!!! Very exciting!

Nicola I'm sorry that you're feeling sad about not conceiving as quickly as you did last time. That's also my fear - we conceived really quickly before, but I've just got a feeling it's not going to be quite as easy this time...

In fact, I'm just about to sit down with my dh and talk through it all in a mo... I just got a bit upset with him as every time we talk about when to start TTC, he just agrees with everything I say, and it's beginning to annoy me. I know it's my body and therefore ultimately my choice, but I think it would be really nice (but perhaps asking too much?!) for him to engage with me in a discussion about things properly. He just doesn't seem remotely curious or interested, just like 'Well you tell me when, then we'll do it' - no thought about the possible consequences of trying now or leaving it for a while etc etc... Ugh. Men! Very annoying. I'll let you know how the conversation goes (if you're interested...)

can i join in? DS will be 2 on halloween and we've been ttc for 4 months, am already gutted as DS was almost immediate. i only started getting regular periods post DS's birth 4 months ago, cycles getting longer by a day each month and last month was 35days ugh.

Not helped that in August we had sex once because we weren't in the same country aside from that night, then this month turns out we were in different countries for 5 days right when i was ovulating, and NOW DH might be going to USA for 3 months next week..booooo hooooo!!!

i really wanted less than 2yrs between kids but just wasn't emotionally ready for another til, well, 4 months ago! In the meantime all but one of my close mum friends is pg with no.2 (the one is starting ttc this month) and I feel horrid feeling so jealous as 2 of these friends took several months and another has gone through more than her fair share of heart ache this year to finally get where she is now...but am sad all the same

Come on this month!! prob 2 weeks til AF, who knows!

ovumahead · 20/10/2010 06:59

girl sorry you feel like you're struggling, it sounds really stressful especially with your dh going away! What a nightmare!

How are you monitoring your fertility?

OP posts:
girlwiththemouseyhair · 20/10/2010 14:11

um...not really, only just worked out how to know when I'm ovulating. But we tend to have sex every other day, sometimes every day, and I'm worried about getting ridiculously obsessive but might have to do something to make sure soon

TerrysNo2 · 20/10/2010 14:39

Hello all!

I too am TTC#2 DS will be 2 in November and I came off the pill in June. Had 3 AF's since then (last one ended yesterday) and last month was our first of actively TTC-ing. DS was an "accident" as I was on the pill (although a bit lax) so never TTC-ed before and niavely I expect it to happen NOW!

Last month was a bit frustrating as I did OPK's but didn't get a +ve so am going to try doing 2 a month this month.

We are not desperate to have #2 now but as we have decided, I want to be in control and make it happen (I am a control freak!). Also, is it very bad that I would like one before 31st August next year as it will be financially better for us (one less year of childminders to pay for) Blush.

I bought some pre-seed today (before reading about conceive plus on here - is it the same?

Can't believe this thread has been active for a few hours and we already have a BFP!! Grin. Congrats doitorelsa!!

TerrysNo2 · 20/10/2010 14:40

doh - OPK's 2 a day!!! Blush

lizandlulu · 20/10/2010 21:28

hiya, can i join you please? i am on another thread but its gone really quiet (andi ilike to chat about the small stuff)

i am ttc number 2, i have a dd who is 5 on halloween (same as you girlwith the mouseyhair! i am into my 5th cycle and am getting pretty fed up with the whole thing. dd took 6 months, but that was after coming straight off the pill. i have been off it now for 2 years and expected to get pg straight awaySad i finished AF 2 days ago and am on day 9 (i think) of my cycle. i have been using opk's but never get a positive and they make me more obsessed with it. i did look in charting and bought the book and everything, but just cant seem to get organised enough to remember to take the temp every morningSad. i am going to try to remember from tomorrow.

so thats it, onwards and upwards i hopeSmile

girlwiththemouseyhair · 21/10/2010 13:53

it's an awesome birthday isn't it?!

i'm also the same as you regarding the pill - fell pg straight away coming off it with DS but decided not to go back on it (during some weird health kick about not putting crap including hormones into my system but have happily gone back to drinking and eating shite food Hmm ), thinking of going back on to come off and get fertility spike again!

every month i think i won't test until a few days after i'm due but the day before i'm going to test i get AF which is such a bugger but at least saving on tests...i didn't get any pg symptoms until 8/9 weeks with DS so at least am not getting obsessional about that as each month draws to a close.

anyone due on soon?

lizandlulu · 21/10/2010 15:41

i am due 7th/8th of nov, quite a way away thoughSad

MrsNoggin · 21/10/2010 21:20

Hi you lot. I did a cautious test on Tuesday and nearly had a heart attack - am indeed pregnant! Bloody amazing, eh? I am so chuffed! I was really not expecting it to be so soon, not having been off the mini-pill long. Thought I'd be on these threads for ages. It would seem I am more fertile than I ever suspected!

I really hope you guys have some joy soon too.

Grin
Nicolaplus1 · 21/10/2010 22:55

Hi ladies sorry been so busy not been on mn for a bit, just caught up with he chats

mrs noggin congratulations to you hunny that is fab news Grin

Well i am on cd 11 so hoping for ovulation soon, and trying to bd every other day lol

girlwiththemouseyhair · 22/10/2010 18:05

congrats mrsnoggin, wow two BFP's already within 2 pages!! let's hope the luck spreads to the rest of us soon.

Good news from us is DH is now only going to USA for a few weeks and then a few days each month til April so at least if I'm not pregnant this month I don't have to wait til Jan to have sex again!

girlwiththemouseyhair · 23/10/2010 20:55

so this super sperm lube - really??? I mean REALLY??

ovumahead · 24/10/2010 11:02

girl good news about your hubby! Hope you don't have to wait too long for your BFP!

And what's the question about the sperm friendly lube??? Do you mean is it really necessary? Or is it any different to normal lube?

It's not necessary, unless you need a bit of extra lube anyway normally, you're better off using this than the usual stuff as that can kill sperm or is not as sperm friendly (apparently) than this other stuff. It could just be a gimmick, who knows!

OP posts:
girlwiththemouseyhair · 24/10/2010 17:12

oh, i thought it was some magic stuff that encouraged sperm in some weird way....that sounds ridiculous written down Blush

ovumahead · 25/10/2010 08:33

Ah ha! I see. Well, it's not unfortunately! Just doesn't kill them...

So, how's everyone getting on? I've passed my fertile phase this cycle, and decided not to TTC this cycle as it would mean I'd be due just before the end of my contract, which would severely mess things up work-wise. I never thought I'd prioritise work over children, but I really need to finish this job neatly otherwise I actually think I will go mad! So, next cycle it's all systems go!!! Very exciting but nerve-racking too, especially as so many people seem to struggle with conceiving no2.

I've bought a clear blue fertility monitor just to boost my anxiety levels and give me something else to check every day! I have been trying to take my temperature, but I often forget or DS wakes up shouting for me, and leaving him yelling while I lie in bed taking my temperature just feels so wrong! So, I'm £70 less well off now, which hurts a bit, but I hope it helps. I have really short cycles (23-25 days usually) which I guess is a good thing in terms of having lots of cycles in which to TTC, but not so good as it may mean I have a short luteal phase...

We'll see what happens!

How's everyone else?

OP posts:
xwitch · 25/10/2010 21:16

Hi my dd is 5. Not been trying long and hit the first hurdle as I'm 20 days late but negative tests. Hoping some of the bfp luck rubs off. Congrats to all those with bfp

girlwiththemouseyhair · 26/10/2010 09:44

good luck xwitch....with ds I finally got a bfp after testing negative until I was 8 weeks pregnant, so keep testing

period arrived this morning, a week ahead of schedule so am pretty upset, shocked and diappointed. Have been trying so hard not to get worked up and not take it seriously so to avoid mega disappointment but clearly it'ss affecting me a lot more than I thought...not helped by what feels like daily enquiries as to when we'll have another.

Am utterly gutted, especially as dh leaves for america on Monday for 3 weeks so it won't be my month next month either. I fell pregnant straight away last time...this sucks

sorry to bring the thread down

xwitch · 26/10/2010 09:57

:( mousey hair. Its normal to feel like that.
Hopefully be better news soon.

ovumahead · 27/10/2010 08:09

xwitch - I wonder if you will get a BFP soon? 20+ days late and no BFP would be driving me bonkers! And very unusual too... is it unusual for you?
