TTC #2

Hi all,

Having just frightened myself a tad by reading the thread about those struggling to conceive number 2, I was thinking of starting a thread for those of us just starting out on this journey. I'm really hoping we won't have trouble conceiving, but I'm a pessimist!

Does anyone want to hold my hand through this process (I'm hoping for a short time only!).

To give you a little more detail, I've got one ds who is 2.5, and we want to TTC #2 between now and December if possible. The reasons for such a short time frame are that I'm on a short contract with work, and I need to get pregnant in order to still qualify for maternity pay from them (I can do this if the due date is anywhere up to 11 weeks after finishing with them). Not very interesting really, but rather a lot of pressure. If we don't conceive within this time frame (which of course I'm feeling pessimistic about!) then we will have to wait another year. And I really don't want to do that!!!

So, come on, anyone else planning for #2 soon?

Hi, I am 34 and have an 8 month old baby. Still have 3 months maternity leave to go before back to work and am surprised to find myself thinking of TTC soon! Probably not ideal to get pregnant just as I return to work but there are so many pessimistic articles about fertility declining from age 35 that I think I'll start trying in a couple of months. Feeling broody!

passthechocs · 12/10/2010 13:43

Hello-
Can I join as well? We have DS1 (4) and DS2 (1) and have been TTC for 3 months. Must be mad... But yes, am feeling stressed and worried about it. Had no trouble with first 2 and know its early days but starting to wonder. Am also now over 35 - does fertility really drop off that quickly after then?

ArabellaRose · 12/10/2010 13:51

Please don't let my anxiety about that panic you! I know most women in their mid to late thirties have no trouble conceiving. it's just that I'd like to err on the side of caution in case I was unlucky enough to be one of the women who did have difficulties

ovumahead · 12/10/2010 14:16

this page is quite informative about the effect of age on fertility. There's a good graph that shows how fertility declines with age.

I'm 30, but have endometriosis and I'm also about 2 stone overweight, both things can have a negative impact on fertility. I'm trying to lose weight and generally be a lot healthier, e.g. regular exercise, healthy (vegetarian) diet, but I cannot control the stress in my life which I know won't help matters much!

Good luck ovumahead and passthechocs!

doitorelsa · 12/10/2010 15:50

Hi, I'll join! Like you Ovumahead, I have a DS 2.7 and really want to concieve #2 quickly. Sorry about your pressure though, sounds awful. We started this month and I am currently on day 25 on a 24-26 day cycle. Been on mn all day, though supposed to be working. Can't concentrate! Have you started ttc? ArabellaRose, I don't blame you for wanting to try again, I have wanted to since DS was born!

passthechocs · 12/10/2010 16:11

Thanks for the info (I think! Smile) on fertility. Guess we need to get on with it, although at the rate I'm going will have spent a fortune on wee sticks...

Doitorelsa - glad am not only one with day time MN addiction when working...

ovumahead · 12/10/2010 18:51

pass can't you save on the wee sticks and just have loads of sex?!?

Just got AF today - that means this cycle was 23 days... so short! Usual is 24 so not really unusual for me, but does make me worried...

But what doesn't make me worried?!?!!?

I'm also TTC#2 and have an 18 month old daughter. I am desperately trying not to symptom spot because I know it will probably take ages. AF is due in a week. I think I have some symptoms but I don't have others Hmm. Looked at the charts they are a bit scary. If it takes a year I'll probably go mad! Am 33 (and very scared by the 'buses' Grin)

passthechocs · 13/10/2010 09:43

Symptom spotting is a nightmare - convinced myself that I had afternoon sickness before AF arrived late last week. I never used to have late periods! Two days late last week and 10 days late the previous month. Very different from DS#1 and 2.

doitorelsa · 13/10/2010 18:43

Can't believe it, just got a BFP! Oh my God!!

ArabellaRose · 13/10/2010 18:45

Congratulations that's fantastic news!Grin

doitorelsa · 13/10/2010 18:47

Thank you Grin Grin I know its early days and won't tell people yet but still allowing myself to be very excited!!
good luck to everyone else. We used Conceive Plus by the way, no idea if it helped but certainly didn't do any harm

ArabellaRose · 13/10/2010 18:49

What is conceive plus?

doitorelsa · 13/10/2010 18:55

Lube, bit like Pre-Seed, if you know of that. I got it from Amazon. It is supposed to replicte ewcm and so provide an ideal environment for sperm (or something like that). DS1 took ages so this is amazing, 1st month.

titferbrains · 13/10/2010 21:06

Anyone else late, waiting for AF and RUN OUT OF PEE STICKS?? should have bought more today, now will have to make a mad dash tmw morning if it doesn't come before playgroup....

I don't feel pg but have had general vague lower back ache and odd "fullness" in my abdomen.... which of course could just be AF symptoms.

Note to self: write business plan for pg test home delivery svce....

fedupttcnosuccess · 13/10/2010 21:17

Congratulations doitorelsa! Did you have any pg/af symptoms?

doitorelsa · 14/10/2010 08:55

I had no AF symptoms really. Breasts not particuarly enlarged/sore but nipples bigger, darker and very sensitive. Biggest thing was really excessive saliva in my mouth yesterday which i googled and saw it was an early sign! Also a hang over feeling in my stomach - hungry/sicky sort of feeling. Very good luck to you, its such a torture having no control over the one thing you want most of all isn't it?

fedupttcnosuccess · 14/10/2010 09:20

Well congratulations, wishing you a happy healthy nine months Grin xxx

titferbrains · 14/10/2010 09:48

ovumahead · 14/10/2010 11:26

Is anyone taking any particular vitamins or making their man take any vitamins to improve chances of conception? I was looking at these for my man and these for me, but not sure if they're really worth it?

OP posts:
titferbrains · 14/10/2010 12:17

Am going to take pregnacare from today as I'm feeling a bit knackered and probably could use the extra vitamins. Nothing for DH.

doitorelsa · 14/10/2010 12:28

ovumahead, I only tested yesterday which was the first missed day of AF, so not very! according to the calculator, due date is 20th June. Thanks so much to everyone for your congratulations x

AnnamariaHun · 14/10/2010 12:38
