Planning ahead!

Is it just me who's planning ahead before she's even ttc? I've decided to come off the pill at the end of December and have started to drink decaf (v. difficult!), eat more fruit and veg, cut down on the vino etc. Am I mad to plan this far ahead?

I'm a newbie to this thread but wanted to add my congrats, too

muppet3 · 30/10/2005 16:09

Thank you Artoo and you Scrobble. Can I ask a stupid question? I'm sure this is just nerves but ... since it was one of those really sensitive, early tests should I wait a while before seeing a doctor (will their test pick up such low levels of hcg?) Or should I do a 'normal' test first? Or should I just book an appointment anyway? (in a small voice = sorry for being such a paranoid idiot)

jabberwitchy · 30/10/2005 16:59

It depends on if you want to do any genetic testing. A CVS is done between 10 and 12 weeks so you would want to go in fairly soon to get scheduled for that. Otherwise, I think they want you to come in at 10 weeks.

Hey ladies! Just a quick update - looks like my short luteal phase is a result of low progesterone - my blood test came back at 20.5, and apparently you need to be 30 or more. But planning ahead paid off again - the doctor said it was normal to take more blood in subsequent cycles to establish a pattern, but given I have 4 cycles worth fo chart data showing this short luteal phase he is referring me to the gynaecologist straight away

I'm very happy - at least we know what the issue is, and it's something that seems to be very treatable

Hugs,
Artoo.

sweetbean · 01/11/2005 15:06

Glad to hear that you are fixable Artoo that fantastic news! good luck with everything xxx

muppet3 · 01/11/2005 17:15

Artoo - that's great news! I'm so glad they've pinned it down so quickly Thanks for all the lovely comments girls - wishing you all lots and lots of luck for BFPs soon. It still doesn't seem entirely real, despite plenty of feeling sick and lightheaded.

pussycatmomma · 02/11/2005 20:54

hey muppet hope all going well, have you been driving yourself mad doing more tests yet? im so happy for you enjoy every minute sweetie. hang around on our thread, you might bring us some luck! me and dh did a spot of bd last night, and we on day 9 this is progress for us! normally he , ahem, gets off the bus before he gets to the station iykwim at this time of month!!! but no, he stayed put right to the very end ( so sorry itmi!!! i think im cracking it girls, but progress is sloooooooooow.
i know this might sound mad (but after all i am the orig mad girl) but finding myself cant be arsed to bd unless is "good"time in month, feel like a)cant be bothered and b)its a waste, any other time. feel a bit bad now. bet everyone else is just out there bd for sake of it no matter what day date or time. i dont know, maybe im gettin a leeeeeeetle bit obsessed? days 8 10 12 14 - ive even put it on the calendar! reassure me girls x xx love to all

muppet3 · 04/11/2005 11:08

Hiya PCM - with us, DH was really worried about feeling 'used' so we tried to keep it all as normal as possible (and bd-ed nearly every day for 6 weeks). I think it made finding out the good news even more lovely as we were feeling so close. I don't think that that approach will ever be practical after having one child though! It required a lot of energy

Am feeling pretty grotty, and succombed to first sick day off work today after fainting, vomiting and getting no sleep last night. Off to the GP on Monday for health checks and midwife referral! It all moves so fast. Of course, it would help if I actually had a clue how pregnant I am - although I reckon about 5 weeks. Now weighing up telling my line manager at work - think I need to explain the illness and slightly shorter hours I'm suddenly putting in. She keep asking me if I have a virus or something. Scared to tell though (it's SO early, I've not told family or anything yet). Any advice on how to tackle it?

hi all, hi spod, hi muppet.... muppet, id offer the same advice as per prev.... dont tell anyone just yet, stick to friend and family if needs be. i know what an awful time my sister has had(you might recall...) so i would deffo keep under wraps. who cares if your boss thinks youre winging it?! viruses and the like are v. common this time of year i fear! no honey, you just stick to the facts, youve been feeling awful sick just lately, dont know whats come over you etc...Please concentrate on yourself and your growing emby muppet, nothing else matters just now.
Spod -sorry things not working out just now , i know from exp how hard it can be...hugs to U (((((big hug))))))))) Im feeling desperate today...girl came into work from our team with her new baby, of course is good news and lovely, but had to force myself to be busy at the printer, could feel myself starting to well up........gosh whats wrong with me!!!( i know whats wrong with me, i want to be a mummy and im not) xxx

decafgirl · 09/11/2005 10:03

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. Sorry to hear you're delaying things spod, hope it's not for too long but it's best to be 100% before it all starts 'proper' I suppose.

Muppet, I definately wouldn't tell. Just enjoy your little secret for a while longer. My friend said she felt like public property (and the subject of many a conversation) instantly.

Hope everyone is otherwise well. I had a massive headache for about 3 days when my body finally realised it wasn't getting it's usual hormone fix but it's gone now and I think I can feel my sex drive slowly returning. Hubby is starting to look a bit nervous (bless!)

Hugs (((((((())))))))) Decafgirl

I have just discovered this site and it is fab. Forgive me not using all your abbreviations yet - I'll get the hang of it. It is so good to know how many others are out there. I am in the dilemma now of when to plan our baby. We will have been married 2 years in Jan and I was adament we wait until that date then at least. My husband is 7 years older than me (34, I'm 27) and CAN"T WAIT to have a baby. I'm not so sure yet, but also realise when I married someone older that compromise is involved and it will happen sooner than I want and later than he wants. I am just about to start my next 6 month prescription of the pill and we are now talking tentatively to make this the last lot. I had no idea I needed German Measles jabs, folic acid etc. so this has been an eye opener for me! It is futher complicated by the fact that I am in a good job that I enjoy and since my husband is in a job he hates we plan that he will go freelance and be the one to stay at home ... It seems such a risk to try out freelance and baby at once; he argues that if we wait to see how freelance works we might not be brave enough and keep putting it off. I do want kids, I think my reluctance is because none of my friend are there yet and I'm scared of being left out. But when hubby reluctantly said wait another year that seemed like ages and I wasn't sure what I wanted. Sorry, lots to say - just a relief to say it!

decafgirl · 15/11/2005 11:18

Sounds like you've found the right thread soundbites! I think you're wise to think ahead about work etc but I'd also start thinking about any long term lifestyle changes you may need to make so it doesn't come as too much of a shock when you finally start trying. For example, you might want to start exercising a little, move to decaf drinks (or water!), cut back on the vino. These seem like small changes but if you do them all in one go in six months time your friends might think you've gone mad! I've done everything gradually so's not to arrouse too much suspicion when I suddenly switch to decaf/go swimming every week etc When I do get pg I want to have a few weeks of joy for just my hubby and me before the dreaded MIL takes over!

This is just my take on things hon, there's loads of us around to help with any other dilemmas! Believe me - those last six packets of pills will fly by!

Hi decafgirl
Thanks so much for your message - it is lovely to hear from someone. Thanks for the advice - a gradual phasing out of things would be more subtle! Did you get the German measles jab in the end? Does anyone else aside from mumsnet know you are trying?
Off to South Africa on Friday for two weeks - one of those trips I wanted to do before babies! Should be fun. Might wait to cut the vino etc. until our return!
I am feeling so much better about things just from having made this contact - there are lots of people thinking about ttc or actually ttc so I shouldn't be frightened.

Hi I?m a new mumsnetter and have to admit I have been lurking on this and several other threads for ages.
I had a contraceptive implant out about three months ago and have been charting for natural contraception (with the support of a great nurse) and am about to move onto using a Persona machine as well. We will be TTC in the nearish future, possibly from Christmas but have been preparing myself ? taking the right sort of vitamins etc.
I?m nearly 32
DH a little younger (summer birthday) 31
This would be our first (I would like September baby ? I?m a teacher so would like the summer hols on full pay but this maybe wishful thinking)

pussycatmomma · 16/11/2005 21:12

hi peachy girl - welcome to our thread
you'll find tons of advice, and often if you just need to chat about something whether its related or not, its nice to use our thread...we are all getting to know each other. In case you dont want to read too far back; I am 30, dh 33, officially we are starting ttc in january, but are not being "careful" at the moment or using any contraception. im cutting down on vino, dont smoke and we are budget planning for the years ahead. Im trying to cut down on caffeine and upping our fruit and veg. We are all planners in our own little ways! Hopefully it wont take too long once we officially start........Good luck to you Peachy, and lots of baby dust to you , only im not very good at it!!

decafgirl · 17/11/2005 15:36

Soundbites I went to get my immunity checked with the GP (she took blood) and I'm already immune, probably from my rubella in Y6 at school.

Peachy I'm a teacher too so I know what you mean! I know someone who's head let her start her mat leave in July but continued to pay her until Sept so she got an extra 6 weeks! Worth thinking about if you've got a good'un!

I can't wait to get started officially TTC now but I still haven't had a proper period since I came off the pill so I can't start till then. AAgghh!

Take care all, xxx

Hi Everyone thanks for your welcome. Sorry for a few days away (visiting poorly grandmother) I had my first go at weeing on a persona stick on Saturday and made a right mess of it I didn't read the instructions right and took the stick out of the machine too early as I thought the light had been flashing for too long only to be then shown a red day when I actually think it was probably a green. Silly me!

peachygirl · 20/11/2005 18:55

Hi
An added extra
It might take you time to have a normal period Decafgirl. It took me at least three cycles after my implant was out for everything to settle down and my CM still isn't as it should be. I was almost positive I hadn't ovulated in my first cycle after as I had no EWCM at all, which the natural family planning nurse agreed with.
I had my rubella checked several years ago when I had a hepB jab but I might ask again when we start seriously trying.
Quite excited about the celebrities in the jungle starting tonight!!
