Good luck Mrs :)

Hello to all - Bebe other than your health concerns babies don't cost much I don't think. The main issue is losing an income buying stuff first time round. You just need to make sure that you have another girl! (not sure how that works lol)

I loved the bit earlier about tampons stopping the natural flow of blood - isn't that the point of them?

In terms of ttc, temping etc. I have no intention of trying particularly hard and fully intend to just let nature take its course. I think that we naturally have sex when we are fertile Wink and as a result it isn't necessary. When my bus arrives, I'm actually going to walk rather than join the thread!

Amanda I wouldn't want to be a SAHM either. I went back to work when my daughter was nine months and really need some brain usage outside the house.

bebejones · 28/08/2010 18:32

Ooooh AC - what did you buy?!

Brett - We'd be alright if we had a boy as DD is the youngest girl to be born in the family (and that is quite impressive as DHs family is huge!) she has 4 younger cousins & 5 slightly older cousins who are all boys! So lots of hand-me-down potential there if we had a blue one! :o Plus newborn clothes wise most of the stuff I kept is neutral...just incase! :o
Know what you mean about using your brain, I'd go potty (no pun intended) if I didn't do work here and there for DH and have stuff of my own to do! But mostly I love being a SAHM!

brettgirl2 · 28/08/2010 18:58

Well that's sorted then no probs either way. Bizarrely, practically everyone I know has girls so I would be struggling for boy stuff.

Just re-read the SAHM sentence, I am of the opinion that everyone must do what is best for themselves and their family. Have a very good friend who hasn't gone back to work and is really happy, thankfully everyone is different!!!!

AmandaCooper · 28/08/2010 19:09

We haven't left the house since we had the conversation - unfortunately I've been in bed recovering from massively overdoing my night out on Friday Blush! Anyway I shall make sure he follows through with it with a trip to Mothercare! What better way to have a focused TTC chat?

DH knows I already have a few pieces in a bag in the wardrobe. What do you think we should buy?

Brett my plan is to secretly time it to perfection like some diabolical plan whilst pretending to DH that I am doing nothing of the sort and we are just seeing how it goes!

If we do have a baby then, apart from a cousin on my side who's just hd a baby boy, it would be the first one in the family, so no hand-me-downs but hopefully lots of indulgent spoiling due to the novelty!

Have to hope my sister doesn't get in first of course...

AmandaCooper · 28/08/2010 19:15

I certainly wouldn't rule out being a SAHM, it's just that at the moment I have no idea what that would be like, what the dynamics would be, etc. I have no idea what trying to juggle work and DC would be like either though. I'm keeping an open mind.

bebejones · 28/08/2010 19:35

AC/Brett - I think you just sort of fall into a routine of what feels right and works for you. One of my friends went back to work just after her DD turned 1 and hated it so much that she handed in her notice after 4 weeks & went self-employed so she could do work from home. She never in a million years thought that she would be happy as a SAHM, but she is less than 2 weeks away from having her 2nd baby!

AC - we spent £50 in mothercare today on DD Blush Oooops! DH caved and bought her a top that we hadn't gone in for! So much yummy stuff in there at the moment! And we went for pyjamas which are right next to all the newborn stuff! :o Something like this might be nice to get or something like this or this if you don't want to get clothes! Or these if you want to be practical! Wink Up to you! Hope you feel better soon!

AmandaCooper · 28/08/2010 19:42

Lol @ the muslins - no doubt we would end up cleaning up with them! No sure they are quite the thing to grab DH's attention with IYSWIM? The swaddling wrap is an excellent suggestion though, it is a bit cute but also a bit gadgety?

bebejones · 28/08/2010 20:24

If you want gadgets this is good! The first thing I bought when I found out I was PG with DD was a changing bag, which I know is weird but I wanted to buy something useful! DH on the other hand bought a toy! :o

OP posts:
brettgirl2 · 28/08/2010 20:29

Why not go the whole hog and just get a cot - then it will always be there, so he might as well have a baby to fill it :). I've never bought any muslins, I was too traumatised by my dribbly nephew always sucking on one!

In terms of work I think it's good to keep an open mind, b4 having dd I was really quite ambitious, definite I was going to go back full-time etc. I did go back full time, but with maternity accrued annual leave/bank hols so have never actually been full time. Am going to 4 days from October because I HATE working 5 day weeks and work isn't anywhere near as important to me as it used to be.

I have 4 weeks left (of 'full time' working [with a week's annual leave] and contraception! Confused)

AmandaCooper · 28/08/2010 20:32

Lol @ a cot! Think we might get some raised eyebrows! Maybe a toy then, if that's what fathers to be get excited by.

Ladylou83 · 28/08/2010 21:24

Glad im not the only one who has a DH who is always buying toys from mothercare and not the bits that we actually need. When DH found out we were PG he brought a superman baby suit in blue, convinced from the word go we would have a boy, naturally we had a girl.

Before DD came I was convinced i'd go back to work FT, now she is here I cant bare the thought of missing something, so have agreed with DH that between 20-30hrs per week is about right. Now I just have to convince my boss I can do it, Im doing KIT days already so hopefully he will my mind can still be on the job. Early days yet though, i dont plan on going back to late feb :)

Is the TCOYF book any good? Have seen it mentioned quite a bit and wondered if its worth a read. Naturally I would like to conceive again without problems, so anything that helps is worth a try :)

nannyl · 28/08/2010 22:09

ladylou...

IMO TCOYF is fab.... i have read quite a bit, thought not all (yet) of it this week...

this is my 1st cycle of charting and studying CM, but have not been feeling my cervix...

anyway i knew last night that i was going to be ovulating today (and last night said to DH that i was pretty sure i was coming to my most fertile time)... i have just taken my 1st ever ovulation test (on 1st ever cycle) cause i was pretty certain i was ovulating now, and sure enough it was postitive Smile

the sticks instructions said i should have tested from day 11, but as i could tell i wouldnt be ovulating those days, because id read this book, i didnt test, as i decided not to waste any sticks until I thought i would be ovulating, other then when quite sure i wasnt!...

and as a direct result of reading this book, i got it right 1st time.

Am really shocked tbh, but for this reason i recommend it even more than i recommeded it earlier this week!!! Grin

bebejones · 29/08/2010 08:44

lol @ cot! :o

AC - DH picked one of those baby toys that has different textures, sounds, mirrors on. Definately a man thing as he buys far more toys & 'fun' things for DD than I do! Hmm I get to buy all the practical stuff!

I used sooooo many muslins, but DD never sucked one...how odd Confused!

Nannyl - very impressive! Maybe I do really need to get this book!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 29/08/2010 08:48

Sounds familiar Bebe. I have to get all our scouring pads, bin bags, fabric softener, etc. DH won't buy them cause he thinks they are boring!

bebejones · 29/08/2010 10:22

I'm not sure my DH even knows where the cleaning stuff is kept let alone what stuff to buy should it run out!

Maybe you should get a baby object that requires some assembly or batteries, that ought to appeal to a man!

OP posts:
Ladylou83 · 29/08/2010 11:15

Sounds like I need to read TCOYF then, maybe i'll see if I can get a copy before my trip to spain in 10 days. I'll look great sat by the pool reading it, lol.

DH does our food shop and I do the household bits and sanitary bits. No way would he remember to buy tampons :)

Eglu · 29/08/2010 11:18

Hi, would like to join this thread. I'm hoping to ttc no.3 around October.

Should have found this thread earlier, as I feel like we've been waiting forever.

bebejones · 29/08/2010 11:55

Welcome Eglu! How old are your DC? How long have you been waiting? October isn't long to wait now!!

Ladylou - very impressed that your DH does the food shop, mine can not be trusted with that. We would be eating paties, pot noodles & chocolate all week if he did it!

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 29/08/2010 13:48

Ladylou it weighs about 10lb!

Welcome to the thread Eglu!

Off to Ibiza now peeps - have a good week. I'll check in if I find a wifi zone but otherwise I shall be mostly sunning myself by the pool! x

bebejones · 29/08/2010 14:37

AC - have a nice time!

OP posts:
Eglu · 29/08/2010 14:47

Thank you AC and bebejones. My DC are 7 and almost 3. Have been waiting since about March time. Was looking for a new job and wanting to get settled before ttc.

mrswantstobeamum · 29/08/2010 16:12

Thanks, ladies! SWI is very exciting so far, but CD17 and no sign yet of ovulating. Trying to be patient...

I've hopped on the June bus...hope to see some of you on a bus - or in Mothercare - soon Grin

strawberrypie · 29/08/2010 16:36

Good luck Mrs! Hi new people!

OH and I sent this morning over at our friends' house who have a gorgeous 8 month old DD. OH loves her and she is so good. We have some other friends with a DS the same age and he still wakes up twice in the night and they have found things really hard. It's amazing how different LOs can be!

I would love to be a SAHM until a future LO went to school but we would not be able to manage financially :(

strawberrypie · 29/08/2010 16:40

ps I also ordered some ovulation sticks, a basal thermometer and some PG tests (!) from amazon when I ordered TCOYF! I am not even TTC until January! Help! Blush

jbells · 29/08/2010 19:35
