Josie Everyone at work thinks I hate babies too! Can you get your hands on any cheap sticks to pee on?

JosieSmith1 · 17/08/2010 14:04

Yes it'd be very easy. I'm nervous though cos deep down I think it'll be a BFN and don't want the disappointment! I might have to give in after work and nip to Asda. Believe me it took all my strength not to drag DH down there at about midnight last night to get some Grin

crazybutterflylady · 17/08/2010 14:05

Hehe I minimise the screen and forget it says MUMSNET on the minimised bit. I don't care anyway, they might think that explains my current buddha belly instead of the reality which is I am a total trougher :)

JosieSmith1 · 17/08/2010 14:12

Ha ha crazybutterflylady yes it still has the name on the minimised bit on my computer too but I just hope they don't see that not the cleverest bunch in here Grin

gardenpixie · 17/08/2010 14:45

Hi all,

crazy I got caught out by the "MN" tab on the screen even when minimised. But, get this, I said I was checking out MN chat for market research, oh yes, working I tell you, yeeeeeeeeeeeeees.

womanly as I understand it, PCO just refers to having polycystic ovaries; around 10 / 15% of women have these anyway and are entirely unaffected by any adverse symptoms. So drs refer to it as "polycystic looking ovaries" as they behave normally.
(PCO type 1)

PCOS refers to the syndrome that can be caused by / can be a cause of PCO. This covers a spectrum of symptoms, the exact make up of which determines the other three "types" of PCO someone can have. The most severe form is when nothing happens - no ov-ing, no ERTD, big fat nothing.

Then there is one where the LH level is around two or three times higher than the FSH level. This means eggs never get to mature because the LH suppresses the FSH and the body gets so used to the high LH levels, the eggs don't "pop" even if they do mature. This is a really common type (which is why the NHS usually just test for LH and FSH levels) and typically leads to irregular, long cycles.

Then there is the type where nearly all the hormones are fine except for AMH. Apparently the problem is that there are so many little follicules producing AMH that its hard for one to dominate and suck up all the FSH it needs to mature; consequently ov does happen but not every cycle. And ERTD can be quite regular as it happens 14 days after the LH surge whether an egg pops or not. It's a bugger to diagnose because there aren't normally any tell tale symptoms hence the need for the AMH test.

The reason it's important to know - and why you should ask your Dr for further tests ie AMH and insulin - is that they all respond to different treatments. For instance, the most severe cases need anti-androgens and possibly metformin.

The really typical one responds to metformin IF insulin resistance is a problem, if it's not, it can respond to clomid (although sometimes metformin on its own works better - especially if weight is an issue)

So it is definitely really important to ask your Dr to help work out whether metformin would help you because, if you do have insulin resistance, your body's chemistry means weight loss isn't as simple as eating less and exercising more. It's possible to sustain a high weight on very few calories and rather than losing weight, you just feel tired as your body can not always access the energy stored as fat.

I think it's really easy for Drs to fob people off with "go and lose weight" when it's just not that simple.

So definitely be strident with your GP!

Lanky good luck with your GP too! A nice bit of thyroxine (sp!) with that pornstar cocktail, madame?

Tante definitely let's set up an advice line - maybe for GPs as few of them seem to understand PCOS as much as they should!

Josie good luck with the POAS!

Hello to everyone else! Now didn't I say earlier that I wouldn't be MNing today as I need to work ... Hmm

I will be back later to chat conduct more market research Wink

MrsWajs · 17/08/2010 14:59

Ola girls!!

Thought I better check in on you all and Lanky things sound promising for you my lovely. Keeping everything crossed you will be another me!!

And womanly you made me smile when I saw you'd gone back through the whole thread to see what was happening with me!

Well what to say - I have decided that I am 6+1 today - my calculations as opposed to the Drs - not that there's much difference, I just think that I know my own body better and they just use their standard little chart which has everyone on an average 28 day cycle! I even think I could be less than that due to lack of symptoms and faint BFPs. Have only done one further test (the day after the first) and it was fainter still than the first one Confused freaked out for few days thinking that was a bad thing but my mum reassures me that as long as there is no period then I am still pregnant. Gonna use my CB digital at the weekend and see what that says but from then on I'm doing no more testing! It's just pickling my head!

I can honestly say I feel no different to how I did a week ago even tho there is meant to be a trillion things going on in my body right now! Hopefully I will feel something soon. The only thing I can say I notice that's vaguey different from the norm is peeing a bit more, having a dry mouth and lots of wind!! Textbook pregnancy symptoms there - clearly!!

So I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for you lot in here, really hope one of you will be joining me soon!!! Then we can be freak-out merchants together!xxx

felicityFlick · 17/08/2010 15:04

Hello Loves,

Hope you're all ok today. Just popping in quickly to say hi. Am not feeling too bad today- I managed to stay up until 10.30 last night and slept right through until my alarm so was very pleased. Had a few tired patches today but nothing too bad so am hoping that I have by passed jet lag and that I will sleep well again tonight- don't want to get too cocky and jinx myself though :) keep fingers crossed for me!

So, what's new then?!! I am so loving the motherhood images! I have decided that I will be a yummy mummy too josieGrin

I see from my catching up that lots of us are due to POAS soon EEEEKKK! Sorry to disappoint you florin but I am determined to be good and not test for AGEEEESSSSS. Well, I have set the date of 27th August in my head which will be cycle day 39. I will test then unless FERTD arrives before of course... so I potentially have another ten days to wait. The reason for this is that when I was temping fertility friend marked my ovulation as 14 days for 2 months and 15 days for a month. With all of these times I had a luteal phase of 18 which seems very long so I am wondering whether my ovulation date was accurate as I think perhaps it was later and my luteal phase was shorter?... This month I know I ovulated on day 20 as that is what the CBFM told me so I am not sure if I will have a luteal phase of 18 days or not. Either way, I will wait until 19DPO just to be sure.

lanky did you mention being late when you went to see the nurse about your thyroid? I skimmed through but couldn't see where you had updated so sorry if I have missed an update. Hope you got on ok, did they have any more figures of your hormone level for you?

zippys my darling, so sorry that you are still so sick. I can't imagine how frustrated you must feel. For what it's worth (probably not alot :)) I think you are bloody brilliant for getting on with it and still going in to work and not making a fuss xxx Are you having your follow up fertility appointment tomorrow? Not sure why but it rings a bell. If so, good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Good luck joise and florin and am really hoping ERTD stays away for you too womanly

Hope your day of work in the office is not too much of a shock to the system garden Wink am still holding out hope for you too chick. It's not over 'til the fat lady sings
:)
tante I too am a follower of higheels' advice Grin The girls on here have heard my theories lots of times!

Glad your day back at work was ok heels, I was thinking of you whilst I was 'working' too. Did you return to work to any goss? I always find good stuff happens over the hols!

Hi crazy I too would like an excuse for my holiday belly. It is a baby- just one made of wine, cheese, pate and cold meats :)

cave glad you're feeling a bit better- I so know hoe you're feeling love. My body was a real pain too after I first came off the pill. What used to make me feel better was the thought that at least I wasn't trying for a baby now. By the time you get started you will be so nice and regular. You've done totally the right thing by coming off the pill early as by the time you get cracking you'll know what's what and understand your cycle.

Sorry you had another aFB announcement alien you need a porn star cocktail to cheer you up, Speaking of which, am shocked you had a crap one *lanky

bella I've still not found one either:( I am with you on your mission! am out for a friend's birthday on Saturday so will keep an eye out and will toast you all if I do manage to find one.

Sorry about FERTD karstan but you sound chilled about it and like you know what's what with your cycle so onwards and upwards for you lady :)

oh no, I have to go, Mr. F is calling me to come and see what the cat is doing Hmm Sorry to all of you who I've missed pinklady, tomboywifeand everyone else.

Will check in tomorrow- love to all xx

felicityFlick · 17/08/2010 15:06

oooo sorry x- posts mrsW You sound very happy and excited in your post! Glad you came back to see us- we miss you xxx

felicityFlick · 17/08/2010 15:08

He he market research garden Grin love it!

JosieSmith1 · 17/08/2010 15:25

Market research! That's great! Wish I could get away with that one! I have my back to the door so anytime anyone comes in there's some frantic screen changing going on! Grin

LankyLegs · 17/08/2010 16:08

Yeeehaaa MrsWajs lovely to hear from you sweets! So pleased you are doing well! Please really stop freaking out and trust the line! They always say every woman is different so try not to worry too much. You sound over the moon which is lovely! 6+1 - ooh have you been on pregnology to see what the little sprog is doing? Isn't it crazy all that stuff going on inside you? Its so amazing that there is a lil thing growing inside you! Oh look... I have something in my eye again...!

Flick well done you for keeping on going - best to tackle jet lag head on! And am impressed with your perseverance! I have only POASed twice in the last week - did one this morning as seeing GP this evening and should go prepared. I did go to the nurse yesterday morning but she was so incompetent I didn't bother telling/asking her anything. I think with my wise google knowledge/ research there wasn't anything she could have told me - so will pick brains of my pregnant GP at 5.20pm this evening.

Garden damn right - some thyroxine love for me!! I am going to try and get my thyroxine dose increased from 50mg to 125mg - wish me luck (not sure she will but I am feeling really hormonal so water works are expected)

Josie yes I think I have been clocked on here a few times too - eeek! Still loving your symptom spotting!

Have a lovely evening everyone... will try and log on later but have to head to B&Q after the GP to get one of DH's other birthday presents... he wants a toolbag and spirit level? How the f*ck am I supposed to wrap those?! I might need a cocktail or two to be inventive with my wrapping!

Why are men and women so different - we want small sparkly things that come in little jewellery boxes - easy. They want power tools and tool belts... go figure huh?

crazybutterflylady · 17/08/2010 16:21

flick :) lovely to see you here, glad to hear the jetlag hasn't been too bad and you're settling back in ok.

Hi hi mrsW! I am so excited for you, it's nice and inspiring to have graduates come back and remind us that people DO get pregnant Grin

can anyone tells me what 6+1 means? Is it 6 weeks and one day?!

x

womanlytales · 17/08/2010 17:02

crazy - yup I think that's what it means. Though I went to this preg calendar on bbc and it completely confused me on the X+Y stuff... the first number is for weeks and the second for days. When they start counting from I assuemd to be day one of your last period..but not sure any more.

mrswajs glad you're doing well :)

crazybutterflylady · 17/08/2010 17:29

Thanks womanly!
One more question from all you in the know - TMI but if I get my EWCM do I just pounce every day until it's gone then let poor mr crazy have a break...? or keep going? Confused

gardenpixie · 17/08/2010 17:32

Keep going until the day after it's gone ... just in case ... Wink

Seriously though, that is the last time in the cycle that the swimmers will be able to introduce themselves to the egg (in manner of courtly gentlemen obviously)

Toriajayne · 17/08/2010 17:38

Josie I'm symptom spotting like a mental case as well, though I'm about a week behind you. I have to stop myself telling people at work what I imagine I'm feeling (today was that my chicken soup smelled awful, it did, it was off according to OH, tired, dizzy, nauseus, all probably caused by the rancid chicken soup methinks!) currently trying to decide if my hands really do smell terribly of potato or if I'm imagining it. Potato, I ask you!

Flick I've set that weekend in my head as well, fingers crossed it's a good weekend :)

Holding out for those who are waiting for ERTD, it's not over til it's over, right?

crazybutterflylady · 17/08/2010 18:03

garden you crack me up! And will henceforth be known as guru since you know EVERYTHING x

TomboyWife · 17/08/2010 18:11

Grin at all the yummy mummy, super-chilled, super-organised visions! Me, I have to admit I visualise making DH do all the hard bits while I play on the Xbox all day. We're slightly weird in that DH was the one really pushing for kids while I was ambivalent for a long time. There's a good chance that if when we actually have them, DH will be a stay-at-home dad.

highheelsandequations · 17/08/2010 20:47

Evening ladies, can't keep up now I'm back at work. Occasionally I risk a quick skim through the board when I get in in the morning but would never dare risk posting anything from work! Lovely to hear from MrsW and so glad you're so happy and not feeling awful.

Work is the usual chaos, nothing ready or organised for the new term. No goss that I've heard so far Flick but give it to the end of the week. Actually confided about everything to a colleague today, she was concerned about the number of blood tests and hospital appointments I've had so ended up telling her the whole thing. She's a good friend as well and it's actually quite nice to have someone in RL who knows the situation.

No time to catch up with everyone properly. DP is going to bring me tea and cake and don't want him reading over my shoulder.

Happy Tuesday everyone :)

DessieLou · 17/08/2010 20:49

Hello to you all! Nice to see Mrs W back to say 'hello'...hope all is good with you.
I've been playing mum for the day with my 7 yr old neice and 1 yr old nephew..had a great day but bloomin' exhausted! I would be such a skinny mum as I've not had chance to eat all day!
Josie and Crazy, everyone thinks I'm a baby hater too!! I tend not to go gooey over them but only to try and protect my sanity!
Having the most bizarre couple of days. I've always hated ertd but have recently found myself wishing for it... bring on the pain! I just wish I'd get back into some kind of regular cycle. Had nowt for months then 3 in 6 weeks and now nothing for 6 weeks - aaaargh!
On a positive note, OH came out with a shocker this aft. Not only did he randomly suggest a baby's name but it was for a girl! Even more bizarre was that it was quite a nice name...Chloe...any thoughts?
Anyway, must dash, my ice cream is melting!

pinklady76 · 17/08/2010 21:01

evening all!

mrsWajs Lovely to hear from you! Like the others say, trust the line. Smile hope everything goes ok over the next few weeks hugs

highheels I know what you mean about the corset! I wore one for a few hours at a party and in the end i had to go home and change cos i felt like my ribs were being spiked against my spine! Yeah dp is pretty on board but it took AN ETERNITY to get him there! He has a massive age gap between him and his 3 brothers so he feels like he has already been a parent, in a way. Totally understand that so i had to bide my time and wait for him to come round. Which was difficult ( understatement of the decade ) Grin

lanky No i didnt resist the chocolate! damn it all! I have no willpower at all. And i have hidden the rest of it so dp doesnt know i opened it! tragic or cunning?! Grin

toria Wow your dh sounds super fit! am ttotally on board with the staying in the bath in the bubbles while hes out with the baby in its trendy carrier. Sounds good!

No news from me other than continued SWIing Wink hi to everyone else Smile

cave hugs and pink pornstar cocktails for you. xxxxx

highheelsandequations · 17/08/2010 21:25

Right, DP is off to the pub so I can mumsnet to my heart's content Wink

Zippys sorry you're feeling so rubbish just now. Know we're here for you to talk to whenever.

Lanky I've worn a corset a few times before but not for years. Was worth it for the effect but think I bruised my ribs in the process. Thinking that spending a fortune on a gorgeous new corset might just tempt fate into giving me my BFP Hmm obsessed much! Hope you've had some good or at least helpful news from the GP. Your DH sounds like my DP, he asked for a tool box for Christmas. I once asked him if going to B&Q for him was like me going to look at the makeup in boots or shoe shopping, he didn't get it.

Josie it's not long now, you can do it!

Garden the info on PCOS is really useful. I wasn't really given any information other than what I'd read myself on the internet after I was diagnosed and was not offered any treatment. Think the doctor thought that as I don't have too many "physical" signs there was nothing to treat. Don't know if I could get away with the research excuse at my work, but I like it :)

Toria it's difficult not to drive yourself mad with the symptom spotting!

Dessie sorry your body's playing silly buggers. Thumbs up to Chloe, as a teacher I am put off so many names as I've met horrible versions but I don't think I've met a bad Chloe :o

Pink I'm slightly jealous, the SWI stage is much more fun than this 2ww lark!!

As for me I've felt slightly naseous after every meal today (probably because I slept badly and always feel sick when I'm tired). I am still crampy and my boobs are achey (definite FERTD signs) and I'm starting to get spotty (even more FERTD signs), although I;ve been getting spots on my forehead, which I never get. Going to wait until I get my day 23 bloods back before even considering when I can POAS (honest), hoping for some high marks this cycle! Should be able to get them by Thurs hopefully so back to the waiting game.

Cave hope you enjoyed the goodies from tesco and are feeling better.

Anyone fancy joining me in a cocktail on a Tuesday night? Or do we need to wait for the weekend?

CaveMum · 17/08/2010 21:59

Evening all.

Thanks once again for the kind messages, it really does make a difference to know that other women have been through the same and more importantly have come out the other side!

The ice-cream and Sauvignon Blanc have definitely helped. I've also spent part of this evening pampering my feet, bless them they take a pounding with all my dancing so deserved a soak, scrub and slathering with moisturiser!

I know my mental state and every now and then I have a few down days but I can feel myself pulling out of the dip, so it's positivity ahoy!

Florin · 17/08/2010 23:15

I need a pornstar cocktail. Flight company gone bust so work tomorrow is going to be horrid. To top that with this stupid car I am hopefully getting I said it will be my car ( it's to replace my car and my parents given me 90% of the money which will be the inheritance from my grandmother) only reason I need to feel it's my car is if I feel it's mine I feel like if I scratch it, it's my problem so some how gives me more confidence to drive. He is just worried about me having a nicer car than him!
Cramps have stopped for now but still don't have any hope for Friday!
Hope everyone is having a good evening, was going to be an alcohol free one for me but with work news I needed one! How am I ever going to cope when I eventually get pregnant!

felicityFlick · 18/08/2010 03:55
