@Akire I am like a lioness and I will go to great lengths to get people to listen to me. And one of the biggest things for me is 'Do not blame my mind' 'This is absolutely not in my head' I know that, because I've worked with people who did have a lot of stuff that was mostly in their head. Or negative mental state rather.
I did 3 years of anatomy and physiology. And I studied Pain Gate Theory. I've counselled and coached sports people through negative patterns when they've been injured. Those typical negative patterns are usually quite obsessive along the lines of
"I'm never going to recover / get better"
"Why me? Why does everything happen to me / go wrong with me etc"
"I just knew I was going to be in pain today"
"I know for a fact I'm not going to sleep tonight"
And ultimately...
"Nothing works, it's all hopeless / what's the point / I give up"
People at that point often can benefit from CBT and are probably quite deep into depression too.
I think most of is here are pretty positive with occasional down days. Wholly understandable. The very fact we are on a support thread proves we are positive people looking to share experiences. The people who I used to treat (for physical injuries, but always ended up needing more emotional support) would largely never do anything to help themselves. So you would see them thr following week and ask if they had done the exercises you gave them, checked out the link / website you recommended. 9 out of 10 times they never did. They would whinge, but very rarely take advice or do any form of self help.
Bizarre really, as they'd go so far to pay me, but often no further. After saying all that, I also had some fabulous model patients.
Sports Therapist by the way for context. Until I had to retire last Feb
