I probably didn't help myself yesterday, as I did 2 weeks worth of ironing. Mind you, me and Mrs PC could have a lazy afternoon drinking fresh coffee with espresso martini in it, so I'd say it was worth it.

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/11/2021 07:21

Oh God I don't iron at all! Far too much faff Grin
I'm glad you and Mrs PC had a nice afternoon.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 29/11/2021 09:57

Morning all.

I've just about recovered from the school run. I salted the drive yesterday, but obviously it snowed and froze again! Left 20 mins early, to defrost car - stick in one hand, clinging on to garden wall with the other. Bloody buffering doors and windows frozen shut. I can't use de-icer. What a bloody palaver. Stopped as near school as poss as I couldn't walk DD in and she knew this, but she got upset and so did I so we both ended up having a meltdown while I scanned wildly for a friend to arrive for her to go in with. My brain can't accept that I tried to cover all eventualities and left what I thought was enough time, but it still went to pot. Need a better plan to get through rest of winter. Going to buy some bags of grit I think. And dig the hand warmers out.

I don't iron at all either.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 29/11/2021 09:59

That should have been bloody buggering windows!

Akire · 29/11/2021 10:16

@StewPots

Hello all,

Could I join this thread please? I suffer terribly with Tietzes syndrome, which caused me to give up work a year ago as my pain and hospital admissions for management just weren’t fair to anybody. I suffer badly with anxiety and depression anyway because I lost my entire career as a HCA and also had two major ops and a bereavement - all in the space of 18 months. But I’m still trying to accept I now have limitations. I just focus on doing what I can in the house instead. I have a supportive partner and family so I’m very lucky in that sense.

This morning I’m about a 6 on the pain score - that’s pretty usual for me, and I’ve got used to it so I’ll be doing the school run then resting this morning. Flowers to all of us who have this crap everyday!

Hi @StewPots welcome to the boards. Sorry you had to find us. That it a lot to be going on with. Most of us struggle with limitations and then over doing it and paying the price. You have to share some tips Grin

@PhilCornwall1

I had a mega flare up of my Rheumatoid Arthritis start yesterday. I'm wishing my shoulders belonged to someone else at the moment.

About 2 hours sleep last night and codeine every 3 to 4 hours.

It's going to be a long day working today, starting with doing battle with the surgery, who haven't issued my repeat prescription for my painkillers.

Hi Phil welcome to the boards. We all know the going into battle for meds situation. On a Monday as well! Sends armour and a sword.

On the ironing note when I have to iron I use a travel iron as it so much lighter for neck and shoulder. Irons these days weigh a ton and a half it’s not natural be waving it about when things are likely go ping crack crunch.

@RainbowZebraWarrior that’s not a good start to the day, can the school not be more helpful and get someone to met you by gate so she can get out. I presume they don’t want to be calling ambulance if
You fall flat on your face everyday.

Have you seen those windscreen covers that you tick over window? Never had one myself but if you can’t use de icer may help stop the ice or least getting so thick. Least side windows have no reaching.

@Akire school entrance is in a residential street and it's coned off. Aren't allowed vehicles in. So I usually park round corner and walk her to the end. I'm going to message a friends Mum and ask if she will wait for us to walk in with DD. Front and back screens melt quite easily with heated facilities. It was pure ice on side windows I couldn't get off. Have orderd a bin + shovel + grit from Amazon and I'm wondering if I can fashion some sort of heated pad to melt side windows in future.

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/11/2021 11:36

Sat in the hospital waiting to have the dye put in to DD. Then we'll have to wait around 3 hours before she can have the scan which will take anywhere between 45 minutes and 2 hours. Its boiling. My hair was only washed last night but I'm sweating so much its gone greasy again. I've put my hat on to hide it but it just makes me hotter

StewPots · 29/11/2021 12:09

Thank you for the welcome :)

Managed the school run - it’s up and back down two steep hills so not fun! But I’m trying to lose weight as it helps take pressure off my chest so worth doing! But I was straight in, put the washing onto dry then sofa with meds, breakfast, two micro wheat bag things ( one a teddy, the other a bagpuss 😁both gifts from DD and DM ) plus a long hot water bottle! I’m stopping here till 3 when I do the pick up of DS

Akire · 29/11/2021 13:53

I always feel more optimistic on a Monday think it’s start of week clean state and all that. Not that bad ever gets the memo!
Not to bad day here, managed pop out fresh air and wrap few more Xmas presents.

Dentist tomorrow not been 2y due to pandemic. It used to just about accessible in a downstairs of house. Now moved few doors down and much fancier but then stick things like fire extinguisher stand in small hallway. So need lift it and other stuff so I can get passed (lots of moaning and groaning from them). Amazing amount other dentists that still have steps especially when you do NHS patients. It should be sorry not taking Gov funding when you break equality laws.

@Akire a travel iron, what a great idea!!!

After multiple calls to the surgery, I think I've finally got the medication issue sorted. Has been a bit of a nightmare.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 29/11/2021 17:33

Really positive hospital appointment today with the lovely orthotics nurse.

I have a new ankle support that means people don't shout "RUN FORREST RUN!!!" When they see me. These are really discreet and lift my foot up so I don't get the foot drop as badly and can place my feet better.

Orthotics nurse was horrified that the GP was being so awkward about pain relief and pain clinic and had told me she will refer me to pain clinic directly and advised me to put in a complaint to the practice. Should have done that ages ago but I am typically British and hate making a fuss!

Hope everyone had had a calmer day!

Akire · 29/11/2021 17:51

Great news about hospital, always good to met a professional who knows their stuff and says what this isn’t on. I have same problem too when you visit GP they seem competent enough you start to feel like it you that’s making fuss as surely if you need XYZ they would do it. Drives me up the wall

Rubbish day here, nerve pain in my hands and feet and legs is exacerbated by the cold and I was horribly ill at work (thankfully in my break so I could get to a staff bathroom easily Halo ). I'm sad because I had plans this evening that I can't do now. But I need to listen to my body and stay warm and let it rest.

bicyclesaredeathtraps · 29/11/2021 18:36

@Akire inaccessible dentist sounds so frustrating, I agree they should be forced to make it accessible to get nhs funding (although somehow I suspect that would just result in fewer practices taking nhs patients...)

Akire · 29/11/2021 19:00

Is that your stomach issues again? Sorry about your plans it’s horrible when can’t plan things. I’m looking forward to it warming up but least not like poor people up in the north on 4 days without power!

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/11/2021 19:46

Well DDs scan didn't go as expected. She had a reaction to the dye and ended up spending over an hour vomiting poor girl. She's fine now but it wasn't nice for her at all.

ndo4000 · 29/11/2021 21:51

Your poor DD @HerRoyalHappiness. Were they able to do the scan eventually?

I've been ok today. Went swimming which was lovely. My back felt so much looser afterwards.

Also managed to have a FACE TO FACE appt with a GP! Talked to her about my lack of sleep becoming debilitating. I had hoped for some sleeping pills, but she said to take an extra gabapentin at bedtime. So let's see what tonight brings.....

Agreed about the weather @Akire I am not designed for the winter. I love the sun and warmth. Cold makes me shut down. Working in a school, we have to keep all the windows open right now because of COVID and so it is bloody freezing all day.

Fingers crossed for a quiet night for us all.....

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/11/2021 21:57

Yeah, luckily they managed to give her anti sickness meds and get the scan done. I felt awful for her though, there was so much vomit. And it was bright pink because of the juice she'd been drinking GrinEnvy

Akire · 29/11/2021 22:11

Schools must be awful, even with thermals and 4-5 layers you still feel cold outside after few hours. Well done on your F2F not to be sniffed at. Hope meds can help, not sure many doctors give sleeping pills these days. Our surgery used it have it on big letters on their website “we do no issue sleeping pills” no idea what they expect the demand to be.

I’ve had a Manageable pain day then I sneezed twice and feel like ripped all my chest muscles out. Amazing how body still finds random things to hurt like hell.

Tried to see if can move booster jab closer but still only showing 6m plus 1 day. They been saying for months no cut off it gradually wanes after 4-5m and then wait till it’s 26 days to Xmas then oh well never mind have after 3m. Hardly forward planning. Can’t see them getting eveyone who wants one done before Xmas and everyone meeting up.

Glad your DD managed scan after all so not total waste of a day eh

Trying to catch up with everyone. I slept until 7.30am this morning my sinuses didn’t wake me up in the night. They were a bit better today too no horrendous painful pressure when bending over. I work in a school too and it’s freezing I have fibromyalgia and Raynauds and really feel the cold my hands were freezing today so I shut the windows I don’t care Blush my little guys have sensory issues and a lot of them just wear polo shirts and bare feet.

My booster is booked for the 8th Dec the last one put me in bed for the day so not looking forward to this one.

Hope tonight brings everyone done much needed pain free sleep c

Name changed and new poster. Can I join please?
I’ve got an autoimmune disorder and so much pain it’s easiest to say where it isn’t.
Think my elbows are OK !
Really stressed as have a dgd usually living with us who’s been having to stay with other family members.
I don’t know if Covid would kill me but I’ve a lung condition so the slightest cold I need oxygen, antibiotics and steroid drips.
We were working towards her coming home with double jabs and boosters but now have to wait until we know about Omicron.
I haven’t keen able to sleep since I heard about it so read this thread last night.
Just settling down for another night shouting at Alexa to play music.

PhilCornwall1 · 30/11/2021 02:15

And back awake again for me, at least I got a couple more hours than last night.

Time for the first round of painkillers.
