Hi all. I'm just caretaking until Reastie returns, but here's our new thread. Please do use up the old one first though.

This is intended as a friendly, kind, safe, warm and fuzzy place for people to share discounts, bargains and Christmas gift ideas both online and IRL. Please note the tone and intention of the thread and join with spirit as generous as DC helping themselves to the Christmas chocolate celebrations

Here’s some useful information about how to save the thread or a specific post so you don’t need to have a message to check in for every thread so you have the thread saved:

To watch the thread - click on the little bell that has ‘watch’ under my first message. This adds the whole thread to your ‘watched threads’

You can also bookmark a specific post by clicking on the ‘bookmark’ under the specific post. This saves your exact place in a thread but doesn’t alert you to new replies.

If you have any referral links or codes, please share them on the referral thread here:

Regarding Vinyl players, I have researched extensively on this and think I can help.

The ones that have the speakers built in are handy and cheap but they have a lower quality of sound and will damage vinyls over time. For the normal user, this won't be an issue, but if you're a collector and want to keep things in good order, avoid like the plague.

The best bang for your buck is hands down:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PS-LX3BT-Bluetooth-Turntable-Operation-Black/dp/B0GF9LPR9X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1

It's actually £100 off on a limited offer at the moment!

Get yourself a pair of decent bookshelf speakers to go with it (I went for Edifier) and you are looking at a brilliant, Crystal clear set up for way less than the high-end equivalent.

That's my two cents anyway :)

I have the Sony LX310 (bought it 3 years ago and it is excellent). I too was concerned about the cheap suitcase tyle models damaging vinyls and did my research. I didn't buy separate speakers because I have a digital grand piano and it connects via bluetooth to those speakers.

The 46mm series 12. Size M-L. I do think our education days are mostly behind us now (just our DS but he’s 4!)

I always buy our apple watches through Very .. they usually have an apple promo at some point giving extra discount if you use very pay later option or new customer code if not excluding apple. Always been the best price for me.

Any train experts on here? My five year old is train mad. We have so much brio. But he now wants Hornby type trains and it's so expensive. I don't really want to just get a basic oval as it's not very imaginative - any ideas for bargains or similar brands that aren't total shite to put together?!
He wants Santa to bring it and was sad earlier as he "only loves trains" 😢

I would be careful - we had a had an oval set and it was too fiddly for the dc to be able to manage themselves for quite a few years. I wouldn't expect most 5yos to manage a hornby set. It was quite a frustrating toy tbh. Not nearly as much fun for young ones as it looks.

If you do get one, think about the base you'll put it on. Even a tiny bit of unlevelness (like the average floor) will stop it working. We had to get a board sized to go underneath.

Bryna · 06/11/2026 10:45

@GingerbreadseasoniscomingHave you looked at Lego or playmobil train sets? Much more robust and you can buy extra track so you can change the layout.

I’ve got the fidelity ft1 one as it’s a cd player as well.
it’s not the fanciest but it’s a good happy medium.

Yes thanks re rehab. Never heard of it but picked up a few bits.

I haven't bought one of these myself, but this set of 6 Baylis and Harding Christmas bags with bath bubbles looks sweet. But...first two reviews say only one bag was delivered, but most recent one says 6 were delivered. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Baylis-Harding-Seasonal-Fragrances-Friendly/dp/B0GZR259DK/ref=sr_1_10

Delivery not til 24-27th Dec unfortunately

We made this mistake. Sort of killed it for mine. The brio is so much more usable.
have you looked at the play train range? This came out after mine were little, so I’ve no personal experience but it might tick the box.

Is there a code for this?

No, it just gets added to your basket when you add anything else to it.

I got it with the £1 bag plus delivery for £4.49. A good bargain, nice little gift.

ElizaSchuyler · 06/11/2026 11:51

My son was train obsessed. He had both Brio and the blue plastic Thomas sets and honestly both of those were so much better than the Hornby set (he was about 7 when we got him the Hornby). Hornby is for older kids and adults.

Cos1970 · 06/11/2026 11:57

I noticed in Sainsbury’s today they had a load of Disney Christmas decorations plus Winnie the Pooh bath sets and Woody and Buzz Lightyear bath bombs.

Didn’t see the prices of all of them but think some were included in the half price offer if you have a Nectar card.

If anyone has an argos or Smyths code with £5 off £50 they aren't using, it would be really appreciated! I want to buy my son the leapfrog globe and is just under 60 on each, which still seems a lot!

It's strange - I buy from Argos regularly and never seem to get any sent to me!

It does say “6 pack” in the title though and picture is of six bags, I’ll give it a try and see what Amazon say if only 1 arrives.

There's a lot on vinted if you don't mind second hand. I got one for about £30. Also thought it was a bit pricey new - haven't given it yet but entertained me for quite a while when I "tested" it!
