Any help appreciated for my most difficult person!!

Female mid 50s. No hobbies, tons of money so buys what she likes. Lives a sedentary life so watches tv, eats out, goes to pub. No interest in house or garden. Likes wine and food but doesn’t cook, gets hair, nails and make up done professionally regularly. Doesn’t want any toiletries/beauty things as has so much. Doesn’t read or go out for walks. doesn’t do real life shopping but buys tons of tat online. My budget is only £30 so not in the range of buying a weekend away or anything which would go down well. Can’t buy clothes as wouldn’t want to guess her size (sensitive issue) and only wears real Ugg slippers. I have exhausted every idea I have had and ones from here in the past so any ideas would be very much appreciated!! I can’t not get her anything as it would cause so much drama and upset in an otherwise very happy family. Got her a heated blanket last year for her life on the sofa but she wasn’t impressed. Am stumped! She is a good person but lives a very different life from me! Heeeeeeeelllllllllppp please!

I'd just go for a decent bottle of wine and possibly a box of chocolates, I would just ask what sort of brands she likes. I think trying to be imaginative is likely to backfire with someone who's made it into their 50s and hasn't learnt to just thank and quietly donate a gift that isn't to their taste.

Some good ideas thanks!! Yes she’s happy with her life and her DH who is very different. Our family isn’t one to shudder about!! She’s the only one who could cause drama so easier to suck it up and buy her a gift, she is a good person just a bit different and we all accept that. She doesn’t tend to buy my present as her DH does most of that but I am pretty easy to buy for so it’s not a problem. She is into all the social media stuff so usually gets it spot on for dd, more into the stuff she might like than I am as I have no clue re brands etc. thanks for all the ideas! But yeah, the walking pad is not going to be the present of the year!!

happy families don’t suffer “so much drama and upset” over someone not getting another adult family member a gift but instead a birthday card with a thoughtful message and a suggestion to visit soon

So yes… I shudder!

buymeaboaanddrivemetoreno · Yesterday 21:59

I agree with needing to know what she gets you. Often people give what they’d like to get, also, you can match her energy! If she doesn’t ‘get’ you, then no need to stress about getting her the perfect thing…

DownwithTG · Yesterday 21:59

So if she doesn’t buy presents
what does her DH usually get you?

Tryagain26 · Yesterday 21:59

First poster nails it. Nice candle.

Does she like candles though. Its not a present I would like or ever use.
If she likes sweet things couldn't you get her something like expensive box of chocolates, teas, sweets
or a food subscription. You can get them for everything eg
Cake, jams, cheese, deli meat, whiskey , biscuits.
I have had been given some and loved the monthly treat.

Apparently she doesn’t get the Op anything!

her husband does. But what?

UbiquitousPistachio · Yesterday 22:03

TBH I am just like the intended recipient and everyone rightly complains about how hard I am to buy for!

Of all the things suggested I would appreciate a hamper of bits and bobs food / drink, especially if it is the kind of stuff you don’t find in everyday shops. Just some one-off treats is fun.

WhatNextImScared · Yesterday 22:04

Posh food/wine.

fumingrightnow1 · Yesterday 22:06

I'd go with a hamper with some nice snacks in

jocktamsonsbairn · Yesterday 22:12

last year they got me a voucher for a massage at the place I go to (they live in London and I couldn’t afford a voucher for the place she goes to!), the previous year they got me a travel bag I wanted. She can’t cope with the crowds etc for real life shopping so that’s fine. Her DH does the shopping, it’s not a problem. We don’t live near each other but are in touch regularly and are pretty close despite being very different!

Has she done much travelling? I am in love with these tiny flag charms showing the countries of the world. You can buy ones for her favorite countries or US states. You can attach them to a keyring, handbag or bracelet. They’re a tenner each for the silver coloured ones but have a bogof at the moment so you could get six. (Buy a cheap keyring somewhere else) .
NB They are very small, smaller than in the illustrations on the website.

Ugg socks & some nice chocs? More of a token gift & sounds like it may not be appreciated but guess you have to buy for this person.

The Ugg socks might be a go er! Didn’t know they did them! Thanks.

OP You don't have to give a voucher for the full amount of say a spa day. A lesser amount would do just as well.

Really? God, sounds like my dream life 😂

I would get her a restaurant voucher, or a cool
special edition of her favourite tipple or a big box of special Belgium chocolates.

Yes she is very happy with her life! Thanks for not criticising her. I’m not getting into why she is the way she is on here but she’s happy, we’re all happy, she is just difficult to buy for. But I would never hurt her by not buying her a gift at Christmas. Just never know what to get so thanks for getting it! I know so many others have too so thanks.

I know that is how it usually works but where she goes only sells vouchers for specific treatments and they are quite £££!! It’s a very small business and that’s the way it works.

An afternoon tea from Piglet Pantry, chocolates from Lily O’Brien or something from the Cornish Company such as The Pasty & Cream Tea Hamper.

Never heard about Piglet Pantry but I like the sound of it!! Will investigate!

Magazine subscription
I’d suggest Woman & Home not as dull as sounds or
Good Housekeeping
Or a £30 bottle of wine?

Thanks I love these!

OP how about Biscuiteers? My go to gift for difficult people to buy for.

CafedelaButte · Yesterday 23:43

@Aleveldilemma I have never seen the Biscuiteers website before. They look beautiful 😍

momager22 · Today 00:00

I’d get her some posh cheese, chutney and crackers and a bottle of wine or port from M&S or Waitrose. Perfect for a winter’s night in front of the telly.

SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut · Today 00:03

Beautiful leather gloves. Cashmere socks.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · Today 01:18

Get her a voucher for the salon she uses to get her nails done.
