Looking for inspiration for breakfast ideas for Christmas Day morning.

We have done Nigellas Christmas muffins, Delias stollen toasted

Poached eggs on muffins with homemade chilli jam, croissants with christmas jam, or just tea and lebkuchen!

What do others do?

Christmas Stollen

At Christmas time in Austria, Germany and parts of France they traditionally serve something called stollen: it is a rich fruity yeast bread filled with almond icing (marzipan) and topped with a light glace icing. If you have a number of people staying...

Chocolate coins is my usual go to!

Boreded · 27/09/2026 17:00

Bacon buns with the in-laws, then maybe some chocolate mid morning

floopyboop · 27/09/2026 17:03

Honestly? Terry's chocolate orange!! I generally can't do a proper breakfast on Christmas Day because it spoils my lunch (and I want to be STARVING for that) but at my mum's once we had sourdough toast with pesto instead of butter, then a layer of parma ham, and a poached egg on top. It's suitably fancy for the occasion and delicious 🙂

Smoked salmon on toast with lemon and black pepper. Cream cheese too for those who want it.

havingdoubtsnow · 27/09/2026 17:05

We have Christmas dinner about 1pm so we skip breakfast as it’s just too much food. However, bagels can be a good option with different toppings and doesn’t take much effort while prepping other stuff

FortyFacedFuckers · 27/09/2026 17:08

I do a little mini buffet, of fruit, pancakes, shortbread, cookies, croissants, waffles, eggs, bacon & sausages & rolls

mindutopia · 27/09/2026 17:09

We just have croissants with butter/jam because for elevenses we have this hot smoked salmon pate (I know it says trout, but Tesco doesn’t sell hot smoked trout 🤷🏻‍♀️) with toasts and this is one of the best parts of the Christmas Day feast, so can’t spoil it with a big breakfast.

(I don’t make the Yorkshire puddings but I’m sure they’re also lovely).

This cold and creamy smoked trout pate with horseradish is amazing served with hot crispy soft baby Yorkshire puddings; a brilliant contrast .

@ILoveGroot thanks for starting this thread as I love hearing what others have on Christmas morning.

I always have an idea to do home made cinammon rolls - but never get round to it 😄 maybe this year.

Usually just have a coffee first thing and possibly croissant. Then smoked salmon nibbles with champgne at 11.30

Christmas 'lunch' isn't until 4pm after the hound has been walked.

We don't have any, set breakfast because its usually just DH and myself. Normally just something light if we are having a big lunch.
Toasted panettone is nice and a good way to use one up.

bannabead · 27/09/2026 17:11

We do the frozen pastries from M&S but everyone sells them now.

We don't have dinner until the evening on xmas day so we have sausages, bacon, black pudding, toast, pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast mid morning (kids are grown).

Llamadramarama · 27/09/2026 17:17

Pain au choc and butter croissants with jam. Fairly light as usually tbh err is some chocolate involved too and we eat our main meal at lunch time so don’t want anything too heavy.

Lindy2 · 27/09/2026 17:18

I set out croissants and a selection of toppings such as cream cheese, salami, smoked salmon etc.

Everyone helps themselves from what is set out. The only "cooking" required is a quick zap in the microwave to warm the croissants.

The oven is occupied by the turkey on Christmas morning so a croissant breakfast works well for us.

BlackCat14 · 27/09/2026 17:19

Toasted pannetone with lots of butter, followed by chocolate orange!

DH's family always do cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast. I'm still learning to bake them myself but I followed this recipe with the 'overnight' instructions last year and it worked so well. I made them after the children were in bed, whipped them out of the fridge when the first child woke up and then an hour later they were ready for the oven. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/overnight-cinnamon-rolls/

runnerducky · 27/09/2026 17:27

We do Santa pancakes but that’s a bit low brow I think Grin

Littlegreywolfcub · 27/09/2026 17:29

@floofydoofy oh my gosh - that is definitely happening this year.

Thank you for the recipe link 😍

cantsitdown · 27/09/2026 17:29

It’s usually chocolate for us or maybe some toast. I do a big breakfast for Christmas Eve but with cooking Christmas dinner and the general madness of Christmas with small children I don’t have it in me to do a proper breakfast

Error404FucksNotFound · 27/09/2026 17:30

We have assorted pastries and start on the chocolate.

And the booze.

FredaFox · 27/09/2026 17:30

jus-rol croissants, fancy jam and Buck’s Fizz
years ago we had bacon butters but keep it light now

HorseandHeron · 27/09/2026 17:32

We do bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese, scrambled eggs, mimosas, fruit salad or fresh berries. There can be cinnamon buns, croissants and pain au raisin too but usually people want bagels.

D0gMum26 · 27/09/2026 17:32

We cheat with the Jus Roll cinnamon rolls, pain au chocolat and croissants. All the treat of baked fresh without the prep!! Oh and fresh fruit to counter balance all the chocolate lol

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePleaseBarista · 27/09/2026 17:35

We do a selection of mini vegan pastries (that DH goes to fetch on Christmas Eve morning) as they are a real treat when a few if us are dairy intolerant and around £50 so feel it needs a special occasion.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 27/09/2026 17:36

We tend to have croissants as it’s easy and everyone is going to have a big lunch anyway.
