As the title says - I’ve just had my first mince pie of the season!

Has anyone else indulged yet? I had a Lidl Deluxe, very tasty. Will limit my household (DH and me) to one box in Sept and one in Oct so not to be sick of them come actual Christmas time.

Put your recommendations here!

I’m very jealous to hear this! I’d love one and haven’t seen any yet 😂

ElefantAndCastle · 06/09/2026 21:05

No. Haven't seen them in shops.

AhBiscuits · 06/09/2026 21:06

I always get a box the first week of school 😊

Paradoes · 06/09/2026 21:06

We have a local coffee shop that sells homemade.. crumble and nut topping. So they are 11 pound for six !!

But I get one box at christmas

I love the lidl delux range.

ZanyMaker · 06/09/2026 21:10

I heard that Morrisons had them in mid-Aug 😂 I picked up my box in Lidl yesterday, and I noticed that Tesco also had a small Christmas section today with mince pies and Christmas cake.

I can beat that, with a bit of a cheat admittedly.

I had some Aldi luxury ones in the freezer which we hadn’t finished before Christmas Day.

By the end of June we are nearer to next Christmas than last, so ….

I haven't yet but as soon as the Sainsbury's ones appear....
Makes more too self to ask DH to add to order.
Anticipate judgey look from DD who is my Christmas Ali but not a mince pie fan .

Candleabra · 06/09/2026 21:16

Yum, I love mince pies.

I will admit to be known to hoover up the reduced goods after Xmas. I think I had my last mince pie in March. As for panetonne, only finished that last month 😂

Food (particularly mince pies, Christmas cake and panetonne) is my favourite thing about Christmas so I try to spread it out as long as expiry dates will let me!!

Oh, I also found a Chocolate Orange at the back of the cupboard earlier. Best before mid-Oct so will need to make sure that doesn’t go to waste.

I quickly looked away in Tesco yesterday. Apparently the CoOp have them as well. Big sigh, it’s too early.

Edited

I am seriously considering whether I can use last year’s spare Chocolate Oranges for adult DC’s stockings as they will be (just about) in date. 😂

You have a very loose way of determining “the season”. We are barely into the last third of the year where Christmas happens 😆

I saw some today in my local coop and thought “way too soon”. Let’s enjoy Autumn first 🥰

tupperwaretowers · 06/09/2026 21:50

Can’t beat a chocolate countdown to the 24th (25th if you choose wisely) of September… October….November… December!

Meandthegherkin · 06/09/2026 21:52

My granny made mince pies all year round. I’m 54 and I only realised a couple of years ago that mince pies are supposed to be a Christmas thing. I felt incredibly dim to not have noticed this before.

nightowlzzz · 06/09/2026 21:56

I love this!
when I was pregnant with DS I was craving mince pies in June and was crying when I couldn’t find any 🤣 love a mince pie!

mummymummymummummum · 06/09/2026 22:06

Thank you for the heads up! Just added two packs of my fav from last year to my Sainsbury’s shop. They are on offer as well!

I don’t limit myself to x boxes per month - there’s no chance I’ll be fed up of them 🤣

Kickinthenostalgia · 06/09/2026 22:50

Not in a mince pie, I did however throughly enjoy some festive bakewells. They taste so good when you ain’t had them for 9 months 🤭

Katigee410 · 06/09/2026 23:20

Nooooo. Sorry but Christmas stuff belongs in December x

FamousInTheLastCentury · 07/09/2026 00:01

I always have my first mince pie of the year on my birthday in mid November, have done for 40-odd years,

But I’m on Wegovy pills… I don’t know how the pills will react with something so rich!
Im planning a 2~3 week break of the pills over Christmas and New Year, to enjoy some nice food and drink, but I’ll be gutted if I can’t enjoy my little birthday ritual in November. I haven’t seen any mince pies in shops yet, but I did spot a little Christmas chocolate display in Tescos at the weekend🎄

Wonder when the first adverts start? Around Bonfire Night used to be the norm a few years back.

Lucky you!

I don't live in the UK, and here they aren't sold at all, neither is mincemeat. So I won't get one until I bother to go through the process of making mincemeat, waiting a couple of months, and then making the pies. Normally start that in October some time.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 07/09/2026 07:15

I have bought a box (and some stollen) but haven’t opened them yet.

@Kickinthenostalgia please tell me more about these festive Bakewell tarts and where you get them!

ZanyMaker · 09/09/2026 18:29

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference mince pies are half price at the moment - so that’s my October box already in the cupboard!

They also have the Cadbury’s pouches at half price (so less than £1) if anyone wants some stocking fillers.

Sainsbury’s delivery arrived today. I’ve just enjoyed a mince pie and a glass of wine. I enjoyed it, and didn’t feel in the slightest bit Christmassy. All good!

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 09/09/2026 23:01

I’m not normally a huge fan - my husband eats enough for our town though.

However, after trying one last year, I’ve decided I’m going to treat myself to one box of heinously expensive Gail’s mince pies every year, and they’re not for anyone else - spectacular!
