Thanks so much to @Sideorderofchips for keeping things going. I can barely believe it's September and (for me at least!) that only means one thing - Christmas can start!!!!

Hope you've all had a great year and have missed you all. Last couple of years I've had various health things going on so have been a bit distant from the threads. Not quite there yet but feeling stronger than this time last year and I can't wait until I see more festive items in the shops! I've already bought my advent calendar - I've got the taskmaster one (which I'm quite excited about!).

I'll post various links etc in the next thread first post but essentailly you guys know the drill - share and be nice or leave.

<waves to everyone>

This is my first year on this thread, I’ve already opened several tabs.
I’m so excited!
I have a 9 year-old, a 1 year-old and I’m due baby #3 in 2 weeks (all girls) so my eyes are fully peeled!

Hippeedippeemee · 03/09/2026 02:28

Soooo excited for this thread, last year was my first time and it made so much difference. Thank you 😊😊😊

Can I please ask where everyone gets their xmas wrapping paper from and if you’ve spotted any deals so far? Or is it just a case of buying them cheap from a supermarket at any time?

I feel like this is the only place I can ask this question without being judged as totally sad 🤣

I buy mine from dunelm, its good quality and comes in nice big rolls.

Im so excited for this thread to be back! Last year I really didn't enjoy or get into christmas due to stress then had a horrendous first half of the year. Everything is resolving now and I am ready to throw myself into christmas!

sherbertdibdab · 03/09/2026 07:35

I am back for my 10th year on the threads. I first discovered this when pregnant with my first and she is turning ten at the start of November 😮Here for Christmas vibes, bargains and the friendliest place on Mumsnet. Thanks @Reastie and @Sideorderofchips keep up the excellent work.

Morning all.
im after advent calendar recommendations - DH who’s only hobby is DIY and DD (19) who loves food and isn’t into beauty.
they’ve had Lego, jam, marshmallow, shortbread, puzzles, popcorn in the past which all went down well.

we get a family Degusta between us.

Toooldforlonghair · 03/09/2026 08:52

My second year on this thread. Been following the prequel thread but have now moved over to here. Absolutely love them - thank you to all who set them up.

I am actually looking for and bargains in wine advent calendars. Need one for mid November for my adult DS it's become a tradition to get one for his birthday.
He doesn't drink beer unfortunately.

Thank you

I seem to remember Aldi doing wine ones last year - might be worth keeping an eye out?

I usually get mine from card factory or the supermarket, but last year I ordered some from Whistlefish after an offer was shared on this thread, and I will definitely go back for more this year. The quality was lovely and so many beautiful designs

HairsprayBabe · 03/09/2026 09:27

TSV on QVC today is a big festive Joe and Sephs bundle, could easily be split into different stockings or given as a hamper or split over teacher gifts.

Its £21 plus p&p but if you have never ordered from them before they have a 10% off you can sign up for and a £5 off your first order deal on too (obviously cant use them together though)

Thanks @Reastie for the thread and sorry to hear that you have been unwell. Hoping for better things to come.

Two things I didn't get in previous years and wish I had are a candle warmer lamp and a Degusto advent calendar. How did everyone get those (the Degustos) as such a bargain? Were they on Groupon or something?

VikingNorthUtsire · 03/09/2026 09:32

Also is there a deal on the OK advent calendar that I haven't seen? Or are people just excited that it's been released?

Wrapping Paper
I have found TK Maxx good for longer length rolls of strong wrapping paper - good for big awkward presents (or just lots of small ones)

plus you NEED a heavy duty tape dispenser
the Rapesco one is good - this is just a link I’ve found not a recommendation. Jeff B sells them too but he doesn’t need the help.

Yes it was a Groupon offer for the Degusta
You can currently get £6 off the £40 price by signing up to their newsletter - but not sure if there is postage added to that

ApiratesaysYarrr · 03/09/2026 10:04

I'm looking for a recommendation for an escape room or similar puzzle advent calendar for a couple who enjoy playing games together but don't do cryptic crosswords etc (to give you an idea of where to pitch in terms of difficulty). Has anyone tried the Taskmaster advent calendar - they don't watch the show as far as I know, but would it still be fun?

Thank you 😊 it would obviously have helped my searching if I had got the company name right. Doh.
