i thought we could use a thread for ideas on kids Christmas presents and stocking fillers.
Mine are quite young so I will be doing the good old fidget toys, colours, slime etc for the stocking fillers.

If you have any great suggestions would you mind sharing links, please?

DS 8yo will be getting a bit of a ketchup themed stocking this year, he’s obsessed with the stuff, so a ketchup plushie, keyring, etc. DD 7yo will be getting some sylvanian families animals, and craft bits and pieces I think. They will both get some toiletries, fluffy socks, possibly a new sleep mask. Not sure what else yet so following with interest!

Mine will be 6 and 3 at Christmas and didn’t give much of a shit about the stockings last year.

This year i’m doing bubble bath, pjs, chocolate coins and stickers. That’s it.

Great idea and don’t blame you. Mine are similar ages. First year I’m doing stockings too as I’m making a bit of a thing of this year.

Mine are now teens but stil get stockings. I've always kept them fairly simple. Things like fluffy socks, regular socks, a small game or lego set, some sweets. As they are older they will now get a slight more expensive present like they have had wireless ear buds, DD has had some makeup. Also switch games. But nothing really big stockings are for small presents.

Over the years I have really cut down on the tat as it ended up getting binned or charity shopped by Easter. For a while I tried doing “sweet or smelly” stockings only- so either food themed treats (mostly food like mini Pringles, mini cans of fizz, foreign snacks, paper money etc) or smellies (deodorant, body spray, lip salve, bath bombs etc) so that others wasn’t any plastic tat. That worked well.

Now I’m not so strict with a theme but do try to avoid tat. Good things for my teens in recent years have been air pod cleaners, power banks, keyring with a £5 in it, new cables each year, USA cans of fizz or Japanese. Sports stuff like grip socks, finger strengthener, skipping rope, stretchy bands, massage ball have also been good for my sporty teens. Juggling balls went down well
last year. And as dd was doing her exams she got a tipex mouse and highlighters and make your own flash cards.

Over the years I have stuck in the sort of sweets I normally say no to, like nerds or those boiled lolly whistles. But I think they like the idea more than the product so this year I'm going with a tin of travel sweets because they have caused excitement over the holiday car travelling and won't be expected. The round brass looking tins, I get them at the garden centre and they have a variety of themes like just citrus then the sweets are in a powder.

Novelty erasers, puffy stickers, novelty highlighters, possibly a rubber duck as they are being collected.

B&M are doing £2 Halloween bottle jumper and hat sets (yes, really, jumpers and hats for wine bottles) which apparently fit medium bunny jellycats...going to try to remember to keep my eyes peeled for Christmas ones.

I just remembered craft wise- fancy split pins, a stapler shaped like a dog hot dog (from Rex London)hole punch, googly eyes, colour changing pens (gel which change as you use them, or felt tips you go over and they change) washi tape, small selotape and dispense, double sided tape, glue dots and blu tac have all been hits.

Barry M colour change lipstick was a hit with older female.

When younger I did things like:

Things we did when younger but still included now:
Chocolate coins or some other kind of sweet/treat

Book/annual (DS likes the weird but true and has collected these over the years)
Various stationery bits

A whoopie cushion went down well.

My dc are teens now, but bluetack and post it notes have been a hit since they were little.

We always have choc coins and some sort of choc reindeer/santa, and a tangerine in the toe.

I've been considered make up brushes, a charger wires (my dc break or lose these with amazing regularity), a pretty notebook and some sort of magic trick as other stocking gifts.

I know it’s a cliche, but I try and stick to the “something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read” theme for their stocking. In our house, the stocking is from “Santa” and the presents under the tree are from us. So they get one present they really want in their stocking, a book, pyjamas or an outfit, underpants (for their something they need), then it’s just things like chocolate coins, Pringles etc.

I always think little practical things make good stocking fillers too. Things like mini notebooks, nice pens, little puzzles, cosy socks or a small book usually go down well and don’t cost a fortune. For younger ones, bath crayons and little craft kits can be good too!

I’m here to steal ideas for this year (LO is almost 5) but successes from the last 2 years:

I gave ds (14) a meat tenderiser in his stocking. He was thrilled.

It wasn't completely random. There was one in an Airbnb and he really wanted to use it.

I like trying to remember the random shit like that for stockings.

Mine are DD10 and DS8.

I find stockings easy but not sure on main gifts this year - following for ideas.

They’d like table tennis table for the garden.
DD will probably want clothes, I’ll also get her a Lego set and posca pens.
DS will want a new football and football shirt.

When my children were over 5 I started to buy something each month for their stockings. Come December you have 12 little pressies all ready… job done.

Something to drink - for adults a cocktail in a can or fevertree cracker, for kids as special fizzy drink. Last year they got Mexican coke.

That is 7 things. Then 5 items personal to the individual (my mum always put 12 things in a stocking and I continue this, no idea why she chose 12 as the magic number!) E.g.
Age appropriate jewellery (for little ones monsoon/accessorize do the prettiest sets..same for gloves)
Hair accessories
Magic trick or joke
Playing cards
A wooden/metal puzzle toy (e.g. a chain that needs unlocking)
Fidget toy
D&D dice
Bouncy ball - waboba are good
Barbie clothes/accessories
Small lego
Silly putty
Slinky
Make up if age appropriate or lip balm
Age appropriate kitchen gadget e.g. mini spatula for scraping their favourite soread out of the jar or a funny egg cup
Stationery- legami is particularly good for kids
Smart toys - these are small toys you can take anywhere, each one can be done in increasingly challenging ways

Best stocking present I ever bought for my DCs (who were probably about 6/8/10yo at the time) was a personalised pair of chopsticks for each of them. They are still in regular use 10 years later.
