Anyone else had an awful day.....

My mother decided to tear me to shreds over absolutely nothing this afternoon while I was half way through cooking dinner. Needless to say, no Christmas dinner was eaten and I was made to feel like I just wanted to end everything.

Anyone else had a bad day after they were looking forward to it all year?

I had an argument with my mum last night. It kind of spoiled the mood then I went home. It was just a bit bland today just me and DC

HearMeSnore · 25/12/2025 23:39

Most of the day was pretty rubbish. Couldn’t get DDs new console set up because DH had set up her Nintendo account with a stupid spam-proof email address and couldn’t remember the password. She’d been so happy when she unwrapped it and it broke my heart to see her getting more and more despondent as the day went on and he still couldn’t sort it. Eventually around 5pm she found a workaround and they managed to get it set up. She was all smiles after that but I’d lost all my Christmas spirit and had to fake it for the rest of the day.

Ours was naff, we had the double whammy of not celebrating properly because 2 people were working (hospital staff) but still going to visit people who were celebrating. So we had the stress of visiting with some strained/tense relationships but bo presents or dinner 😫😂
We are celebrating tomorrow however as everyone is off work so I'm hoping for a better day then!

LoopyLeela · 26/12/2025 00:42

Forgot to add, sorry to hear you had a mouthful off your mum, hope youre feeling OK

Thank you very much, it's just hard always being someones verbal and sometimes physical punch bag.

Hope you have a great day tomorrow xx

Wow, no-one gets to disrupt Christmas lunch in my house. I'd have hung up on anyone being that nasty, and thrn blocked them for the day.

I hope your boxing day is better OP xx

Bit dramatic! DD having to wait a few hours for one of her toys is not a big deal. I’m not surprised she was despondent if that was your reaction.

Big deal for a kid !

Really sorry to hear about everyone’s bad days.
My close relatives who live abroad are over. I am very close with them but apparently not a priority. I saw one of them today and was told that our plans with the others in a few days time had to be cut because they are going to see other family. So my family (me, DH and DC) will be the only ones who don’t see them. They made no effort to make other plans with us but they have with everyone else.
I’ve just spent the last week dealing with some family issues and putting myself out to make sure that peace is kept and this is the thanks I get from it. My day was ruined and I’ll be glad to see the back of Christmas.

These kinds of threads make me glad I am single and child free. No one to argue with!

I had a pre-christmas dinner yeasterday with a friend and we sampled a few liqueurs. Today and tomorrow I will spend along - no problem. I am self employed so just enjoying a complete break from business doing very little. Just eating nice food, watching serialised classics and sleeping late.

Not everyone who lives alone is lonely.

Sadsadthings · 26/12/2025 02:04

I had a lovely day with the people I'm closest too, but I feel really ashamed of myself for bingeing massively. I know it's Christmas but I had promised myself that I wouldn't. Going to get some sleep and be gentle with myself tomorrow.

PurBal · 26/12/2025 05:19

Yep. Mother-in-law is end of life. She couldn’t get out of bed. DH and in-laws spent most of the day talking about hospice care and she called us all in one by one to say goodbye. I can’t sleep because I know I have to tell my 4 year old she’s dying in the morning and she might have died in the night.

Blizzardofleaves · 26/12/2025 05:41

Op, you sound really desperately sad. Can you spend Christmas elsewhere next year? You deserve to be happy and appreciated.

SliceofTosst · 26/12/2025 05:41

DH felt dizzy with palpitations which got worse through the day. Now in A&E after 111 recommended following assessment. Meant to be going away tomorrow but depends on results which will take 6 hours minimum.

It’s not ‘a bit dramatic’! It’s an entirely reasonable response for a child on probably their most important day of the year. It’s not up to you to say whether it was a big deal to the person involved.

My mum is lovely but feels she has to invite her single sibling who is racist and non politically correct amongst other things. Mums sibling upset my teen with their views who has decided they don’t like them. Then my father started with passive aggressive comments about my relationship. I cannot bring my partner because of the above. So I’m done I think. My world has got smaller with divorce etc. Maybe next year I’ll just go away.
