December 1st breakfast

IF you do a special breakfast for today, what do you have? My kids are teens but we have our friends children staying with us at the moment who are younger, due to a family emergency, and they cheered up when we mentioned we could do this.

We are having,

🎄 Pancakes shaped like snowmen, Xmas trees and Rudolf with smarties, chocolate chips, strawberries and blueberries for decoration

🎄 Snowman crumpets

🎄 Grapes and blueberries made into a Christmas tree

🎄 Banana and strawberries made into candy canes

🎄 Milk in bottles decorated to look like snowmen

🎄 Hot chocolate and marshmallows

🎄 Chocolate coins

🎄 Advent calendars (chocolate and Lego)

I decorated the dining table late last night so it looks very festive for them and our friends children’s elves are with us!

Just wondering what you’re doing because I’m nosy and maybe I can steal some ideas.

It’s quite interesting how one poster preparing a special breakfast can upset people so much and make them desperate to find things wrong about it, no matter how absurd. I guess it’s psychological and people lash out in a self-defensive way to justify that they don’t do this, which is totally unnecessary as there are no rules, just move on to the next thread if you’re not interested in chatting about early December breakfasts.

The OP isn't in work though. The children aren't in school. She's explained their situation multiple times. Genuinely don't know if people are just thick, complete arseholes or both.

Some people commented that they thought it was a bit weird. Just their opinion. And for some reason Op and others took it to heart. As though we should all think it's great.

The other thing is that many of us had never heard of such a ritual and are annoyed by yet another money spinning ritual concocted by retailers.

I don't think so. I'm just trying to point out that a special Christmassy breakfast doesn't have to be wall-to-wall sugar. Surely we're all concerned about children's health and can see that obesity is a growing (in two ways!) problem? Yes, one meal won't make a difference but it's part of a pattern. This special meal would be a great occasion to show that fun eating isn't all about sugar.

What is weird about making breakfast a bit of fun for some children that are away from home and clearly going through some sort of family trauma? Why wouldn't that be a 'great' thing to do? It's something they do every year at home, something to take their minds off what else is going on, just a little bit of joy for them. The OP didn't say everyone should do it, just asked for advice from people that do. It's frightening that this simple concept is so difficult for people to grasp.

Not that the OP needed to but she’s already mentioned the healthy food the children will have outside the breakfast. Pancakes, fruit and some treats for a one off is really not the issue you’re making it.

I just wonder why to comment at all if people are not into this kind of thing…if I see a post about someone getting a coat for their dog for Christmas and I don’t have a dog/don’t think dogs need coats/find it too commercial then I just move on to the next thread and let those who enjoy dog coats share ideas between them.
