December 1st breakfast

IF you do a special breakfast for today, what do you have? My kids are teens but we have our friends children staying with us at the moment who are younger, due to a family emergency, and they cheered up when we mentioned we could do this.

We are having,

🎄 Pancakes shaped like snowmen, Xmas trees and Rudolf with smarties, chocolate chips, strawberries and blueberries for decoration

🎄 Snowman crumpets

🎄 Grapes and blueberries made into a Christmas tree

🎄 Banana and strawberries made into candy canes

🎄 Milk in bottles decorated to look like snowmen

🎄 Hot chocolate and marshmallows

🎄 Chocolate coins

🎄 Advent calendars (chocolate and Lego)

I decorated the dining table late last night so it looks very festive for them and our friends children’s elves are with us!

Just wondering what you’re doing because I’m nosy and maybe I can steal some ideas.

I have never in my life heard of a special breakfast for 1 December? On a school day as well? Is this a US thing? 1 December means opening of first door of advent calendar, that's it.

PartyAnimalQueen · 01/12/2025 11:12

I didn’t know it was a thing when my oldest was little but discovered people do it when my youngest was smaller (she’s 11 now) and we still do it (she loves it and it marks the start Xmas countdown!) A North Pole breakfast (people often do the elf arriving but we don’t do the elf) we just have a fun breakfast and give then advent calendars etc. yes I work, yes my child goes to school, get the stuff done the night before and there is no faff in the morning 🤷🏼‍♀️

FFS, I'm actually getting pissed off on OP's behalf about the sheer number of people who A) can't be arsed to read all the OP's posts (you don't even have to read the whole bloody thread) and B) can't just scroll past a post in the CHRISTMAS section that they don't have any interest in.

I actually think maybe @MNHQ should step in and add a post to the top of OP's because all this misery really is bringing down what should be a lovely thread.

I've never heard of a special breakfast for 1st December. Sounds like a big old faff before everyone gets off to school/work.

Quite! This is a new one on me. What a faff!

God me too, what the fuck is wrong with people

No one's making you do it.

Brewde · 01/12/2025 11:15

Some people are feeling very inadequate at being low effort individuals imo.

Have you never in your life heard of reading and comprehension either? The OP asked IF you do a special Dec 1 breakfast what do you have. Then went on to explain she's doing a treat for some children that are going through a very rough time. Literally noone cares if random posters haven't heard of it or couldn't be arsed with it or think it's a faff. That's not the point of the thread, move on.

By the way it's called North Pole breakfast and it's nothing new or obscure.

Mydadsbirthday · 01/12/2025 11:20

I was going to say it all sounds like a massive faff but I did take the time to read the OPs posts so can understand her wanting to make the effort and she sounds like an amazing friend / aunty to these kids.

I do think it's too much sugar though especially as they're not even school age.

My teen DD would love this though! She always complains that we don't make enough effort for Xmas! I might do some of this for her on the weekend - we wouldn't have the time on Monday morning before work / school.

TheSnowiestQueen · 01/12/2025 11:21

Well, I've got to a ripe old age and never heard of a Christmas breakfast on 1st Dec!

Our Christmas breakfast is on the 25th. And everyone grabs what they want.

You've obviously been pulled into this by a shop notice trying to get you to buy more stuff!

Christmas for us begins on the 24th Dec, not the 1st- there's still a month to go FGS!

But most people have never heard of a special breakfast on the 1st Dec as it doesn't actually exist as a 'thing'?

I mean, why would it?

Does this belong in the same category as people who get the tree and decs up on the 1st and spend nearly 4 weeks doing all-things Christmassy?

One day of sugar will do no harm whatsoever.

Julimia · 01/12/2025 11:25

Not a faff but then everything is isn't it if thst's your attitude.

TheSnowiestQueen · 01/12/2025 11:26

'Christmas' for most people starts on 24th Dec, although obviously there are things going on in primary schools before then and work parties.

But the 1st?

RoamingToaster · 01/12/2025 11:26

I never get the negativity over things like this. It’s like they can’t comprehend people might actually enjoy putting together such a meal and having a fun little breakfast to get into the Christmas spirit. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve never felt any need to keep up with the Jones but I often read posts where I think that’s nice and don’t feel any pressure is put on me to copy it.

I also had never heard of this kind of breakfast but think it sounds sweet. I like the idea of snowmen pancakes. Seems simple and fun for the children.

Aethelredtheunsteady · 01/12/2025 11:31

You sound really lovely OP! Those moaning need to work on their reading comprehension skills (and their compassion!).

My little boy is only 18 months so still a bit young for Christmas but last year I was in the depths of severe PND (and then had flu for Christmas Day itself!) so this year I'm really making an effort. It feels like a bit of a chance for a reset and to actually enjoy being a mum.

I decorated our flat last night after he went to bed and he was so excited pointing at the tree and tinsel this morning. You've inspired me to dig out my Christmas cutters and make his toast into Christmas tree/star shapes for breakfast tomorrow.

I posted my buche de Noel once (thoroughly enjoyed making AND eating it) and got called a try hard glutton. A poster even mentioned I get therapy to examine why I was so eager to show off 😂

Don't you put up your decorations till the 24th, open an Advent calendar, send any cards, listen to Christmas music? Why is this any different?

It is a “thing” and has been for years. Just because you haven’t personally heard of it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist 🙄

Go and piss on someone else’s chips.

Can't you just accept that some people find joy in different things to you.

You don't have to partake, it doesn't effect you, you don't have to complain about it or tell people they're wrong for doing it. They're not. In fact we should all be doing more small things that make us happy.

Particularly when you are on a section of a website dedicated to Christmas. You best not scroll this category or you'll find other things to be miserable about.

Good thing it’s not obligatory then 🙄

MinnieMountain · 01/12/2025 11:38

@Brewde I thought initially that you meant you had it for breakfast and thought that is lots of chocolate! It looks like a lovely thing to make.

MogsChristmasBoiledEgg · 01/12/2025 11:39

Genuinely the amount of hand-wringing here over someone chopping up a bit of fruit and buying some crumpets. Good GRIEF.

Rubbish!!

Christmas for most people starts at the beginning of December…..

Cards
Decorations
Parties
Gatherings
Christmas fairs

You don’t do all that on Christmas Eve only!

jemim · 01/12/2025 11:40

Never thought when I woke up this morning that I'd be riding so hard for a strangers right to enjoy a sugary festive pancake. But now I'm here and I'm invested! 😂
