Thread 13 - the one with a cheesy advent calendar of 67 jumpers

1000 replies

Reastie · 29/11/2025 20:25

Decided to combine both thread title suggestions :)

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for helping me out and I'm so excited that I was on my computer and she tagged me so I could set this one up - hurrah!

Feeling super festive today after getting the decorations up and visiting Father Christmas. Exciting news is the Christmas bedding and jumpers are all down from the loft and being washed, so I'll soon be able to walk around in my 'I [heart] Christmas' jumper Xmas Grin

This post is a work in progress, and if you have any links you’d like to share or you think would be good to add, then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas, and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links, please.
Please post any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of MN filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!
As we move towards actual Black Friday (does that even exist any more?) the threads tend to move very quickly. It can be helpful to post your bargain in bold. This can be done by adding an asterxix either side of a word with no gap in between. So Levi's would be Levi's

I’m about to buy a Hotel Chocolat advent calendar that I don’t need, but I have no vouchers or rewards. Any codes for free delivery or even a little reduction to justify it to myself?

Also a present query. My Dad, mid 70s, loves learning things etc. bought every “experience” under the sun. I thought of Smart Mushrooms gifts where you can grow fancy lion’s mane or coloured edible mushrooms. They’re 3 for 2 atm but still £20-£25 each so an expensive mistake if they’re not up to much. Anyone had any experience of them? Alternatives?
Thank you.

I was given some as a gift and they were nice ( pink oyster mushrooms) but v expensive for what they were I thought!

Christmasmcchristmasface · 04/12/2025 11:04

Agree @PairOfPennies my 13-16 who wouldn’t be as cool wouldn’t really appreciate the Fahlo bracelets.
for a token gift I would consider Starbucks voucher and chocolate

I got caught with those offered before - it’s not an additional £10, they basically round up whatever points you would have got to the £10.

That’s interesting, thank you, and very helpful to know.

Wowsersbrowsers · 04/12/2025 11:35

@beadyboo I did the same thing as @rrrrrreatt with my mushrooms. I think some kits need less prep but mine had a lot of specific requirements I was not able to meet in time.

Did anyone buy anything from Elizabeth and Scarlett in the Black Friday sale? I ordered 2 Christmas presents 11 days ago - order said 3-5 working days and not even had a shipped notification yet. I’ve emailed but I’m pretty sure the customer service is just AI as you get a reply immediately that is just generic and tells you nothing!

I bought last Friday and they arrived yesterday.

@PearlTeapot13-16 cash & sweets.

Bohomoon are doing £10 daily offers and my BLC discount stacked. Today it’s necklaces.

Well, I was doing so well resisting the HC advent calendar, and I was actually really proud of my willpower, despite me trying to justify it multiple times.

BUT then somebody had to share the 15% off code, and my willpower vanished!! I must really try harder. I’m unable to eat much chocolate at the moment (health reasons), but I plan to use them for gifts/Christmas cracker contents (and I will no doubt indulge before severally regretting it 🫢).

Thanks to the individuals who shared the discount/reduced calendar price.

Sasha07 · 04/12/2025 12:48

🤣🤣 I really tried to resist it too! Until someone mentioned they'd found a code online... Curiousity of how much it was worth got the better of me then I found the 15% off... 🙈 I'm planning on opening The Everything Advent and just putting the chocs on a plate as part of our Christmas Eve buffet.
I know I could have bought little chocolates from elsewhere for even cheaper but I like to pretend I'm posh at Christmas... (even though I feel like Hotel Chocolat isn't exactly top tier but better than say, Milk Tray... 😁)

handmademitlove · 04/12/2025 12:53

@Mads96 we use chocolate fountains at work - we tend to use tesco value milk chocolate https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/300795072

for 1kg we add around 60ml of oil. We have also used galaxy in the past. The children never complain!

We seem to have the same lack of resistance under pressure 😁. I like to pretend I’m posh too (I’m really not though 😄!).

I hope you enjoy it 😊

Can anyone help … looking for a transparent (ideally Perspex or string but nice plastic as she’s clumsy!) tea pot for tea bags that will hold about 2/3 cups for DD 17? Really struggling for her this year (all she wants is Spotify for a year and a tonne of lip balms 😳) but as she’s tea obsessed as has A Levels exams looming this could be a nice gift with some nice tea bags and fancy biscuits for our little home bird ☺️

Doesn’t Have to be mega spendy.

Griffalo123 · 04/12/2025 13:13

DH talked me out of getting it earlier, but then I saw your posts and scrolled back to get the 15% off code. Also spotted the 10% off someone posted and both stacked.

Would’ve been rude not to make use of both 😅

BadgerFace · 04/12/2025 13:13

I also resisted the advent calendar at 7am this morning but after the lunchtime check in on the thread the 15% discount swung it for me… Thanks all!

Whoops! This is in relation to the hotel chocolat advent calendars!

Late to the party with Fahlo- are they appreciated by 13-16 year olds? The type who keep Up with latest trends- RL, longchamp etc . Need to buy ‘token’ gifts for this age group, but worried that only cool stuff will be appreciated.

well I've purchased 5 for ages 23 - 59! - it's more about the animal tracking than the bracelets for the people I'm gifting to.

ChristmasJumperz · 04/12/2025 13:20

Please can I ask those who have the Salter hot chocolate maker for tips? My Mum has got it for DD but missed the idea of using chocolate flakes with it and bought powder sachets, which I assume are fine but not as nice/not the point? M&S have chocolate flakes or am I best to just get a bar of chocolate fro grating? Any experience appreciated. TIA

I really like the M&S dark chocolate flakes and use them in my Velvetiser

I think they’re glass rather than plastic but Bodum do some nice ones. I just had a quick look and some have money off at the moment. Not that cheap though.

Also, a tip for those hunting for Jellycats - it’s worth a try in a national trust shop if you have a property near you. The one nearest to me had the marshmallows and the hot chocolate in stock at the weekend.

I wouldn’t make a teapot out of string 😂😂

Also caved on the grand hotel chocolat advent calendar for 34.55 including delivery using the discounts! Plus cashback hopefully!

I appreciate that this doesn’t completely fit the brief as it is glass, but have you checked out Brew Tea company? My teen loves tea and has the teapot for one but there’s a bigger one for two.

He uses it for loose tea as there’s a built in strainer which is great but no reason why you can’t also use it for teabags.

there should be a code for £5 off if you decide to get this.

Was resisting the Hotel Chocolat until the codes stacked! Caved on the Hot Chcolate Advent Calendar. Will split between the stockings.
