Present for difficult to buy for friend

This is a request for help with a birthday present, but figured asking on the Christmas board would be a good place for ideas.
A group of us have had a collection for a friend’s significant birthday. Budget c£100 (we can go a little over for the right present).
Generally with this group we have no issues with ideas for each other but this one is trickier than most.

We have a ‘no voucher rule’, so will honour that.
She likes very expensive cosmetics and toiletries, happily spends her own money on those and beauty treatments so wouldn’t really be a treat for her unless someone comes up with something unusual.
I’m not sure our budget woukd reach to the kind of jewellery she usually wears and I know she had a fabulous new jewellery box from her DH last year.
She enjoys a drink but has a well stocked drinks cupboard, different flavoured gins, and all the glasses etc she could ever need. They eat out a lot so wouldn’t do restaurant vouchers even if vouchers were an option, and tends to take her friends for afternoon tea for their birthdays so don’t think this would be special for her even if delivered to her home.
She does like candles, but has lots. I would keep this as an absolute fall back plan.
Not someone who plays board games etc
She doesn’t cook much and wouldn’t appreciate cookery books or equipment.
She has very particular tastes in handbags and purses although I might see if I can find something along those lines she might like.
She’s not a big fan of houseplants (and usually kills them!) Not a Gardner, but I had hit upon the idea of a really lovely outdoor planters for the front of her house, then she had people to stay for a while a few weeks ago who bought her a gorgeous one.
She has a basket of luxurious throws in her lounge so that’s covered.
For anyone else with this sort of profile I’d be considering a charity gift but she’s had a rough time for various reasons this last year so want something which is a treat for her
We are stumped! Every idea someone comes up with, we think of a reason why not!!
Any ideas welcome, thank you

Does she like books? Stationery, ie a lovely notebook or diary?

Is shensentimen

TheSpottedZebra · 22/11/2025 18:22

Oops.

Does she like books? Stationery, ie a lovely notebook or diary?

Is she sentimental, would she like a new version or reminders reminders old memory of all of you?

Has she got a problem that you can solve in a kind, stylish, luxury way, like always losing her keys or similar?

OMGitsnotgood · 22/11/2025 18:43

@TheSpottedZebrathank you for the thoughtful suggestions.
She’s not a stationery or nice pen sort of person unfortunately, whereas I love a beautiful notebook that I couldn’t bring myself to pay so much for but would welcome as a present 😂 (So if anyone recognises me on this thread please feel free!!! )
She’s not particularly sentimental BUT your question on that has given me an idea for a Christmas present for someone else so thank you!
I love the idea of solving a problem. Can’t think of anything off the top of my head but have asked the question in the chat about this present. Even if it doesn’t help for this friend, will always think about that to help me solve other gifting problems. Thank you.

Some favourite gifts I've received; a beautiful pair of luxurious leather gloves, a really great manicure set, spa day, silk pashmina, others I would love but haven't had, silk kimono dressing gown, distillery tour, getting my colours done, personalised perfume experience, hip flask.

Is it a big birthday? I have a small group of friends who - as our 50th birthdays have arrived - have all collectively contributed to a picture for the birthday person. One of these in gold lettering.

What did she last buy you ?

Careera · 22/11/2025 19:37

To be honest I think you do have ideas but you’re just shutting them down & assuming she won’t want them.

Maybe you just need to not overthink it. Go somewhere nice like Harrods or Selfridges, look around and just get whatever you instantly feel she likes and is in budget. The more you think, the more you’re going to talk yourself out of it.

washinwashoutrepeat · 22/11/2025 19:39

Personalized perfume experience is something that I would love. Also, concert/theatre tickets are a go to for me.

my friends recently clubbed together and bought me 30 yoga sessions, which I am thrilled about!

personal secret wishes that I have are
a really nice fountain pen and purple ink cartridges

swarovski Christmas star or a jewelry set

a beautiful cashmere sweater/scarf or even socks

nuxe or neom oils (these are standards, which I love!)

I am hoping to get pottery workshops too!

good luck!

Do you know what perfume she wears? £100 will get you something decent.

pteromum · 22/11/2025 20:14

Does the no voucher rule include an experience?

so for example, a spa day or evening with friends

Orogeny · 22/11/2025 20:29

A beautiful vase. Very easy to spend £100 on craft pottery.

We know her well. It’s not just me it’s a group. We’re really not overthinking.

I love the cashmere socks some friends bought me. I have had particularly good ones from Rosie Sugden.

And pyjamas from fable and eve which feel lovely and luxurious:

I also really love my cashmere scarf.

Is she not a huge cooking person or not a huge food person? If the former, maybe there would be options that don't revolve around cooking? I.e. port and cheese?

A set of the penguin cloth bound classics?

A lovely smart overnight bag, or a gorgeous set of travel jewellery case + make up bag/wash bag etc?

You say she has lots of candles - does she have nice accessories for them? Diptyque has a nice gold coloured snuffer, you could get a candle cloche and one of those jars of nice matches (with the striker patch on the bottom)?

RollyPollyBatFace · 22/11/2025 22:45

Sounds like me! Presents ive appreciated this year - or stuff I’ve bought myself …

La Bonne brosse hairbrush
Fresh sake bath oil
the new velvetiser
Stoov cushion
the new hourglass palette
pure linen bedding by piglet in bed
simple human mirror

SerendipityDiamond · 22/11/2025 23:00

Ugg slippers or posh pyjamas.

hattie43 · 23/11/2025 04:34

If she likes makeup a Chanel compact and lipstick

Gemstonebeach · 23/11/2025 05:16

Seconding the suggestion of a silk dressing gown!
