Whilst putting my tree’s up today and listening to Christmas music I got to thinking about my all time favourite Christmas song. This year I had Ring Out, Solstice Bells on repeat basically the whole time I decced the front room, what a fantastic tune!

Whats yours?

I have 2 favourite and they alternate in my personal hot spot list every year :)
it’s Fairytale of New York and Driving Home for Christmas.

Last Christmas in no 3

Salversilver · 27/11/2025 12:27

Modern favourites - Snow is falling in Manhattan ( the Chilly Gonzalez/Jarvis Cocker version) and Joy (Tracey Thorn)
Traditional favourites - O come o come Emmanuel, and The holly and the ivy

Iknowdino · 27/11/2025 14:26

So many! But I'm pretty locked in with my top 5 being, in no set order:
Wham last Christmas
Leona Lewis one more sleep
Waitresses Christmas wrapping
Sia snowman
Ronettes sleigh ride

frozendaisy · 27/11/2025 15:28

Man Utd 5-Cantona

frozendaisy · 27/11/2025 15:28

More of a chant than a song but still inventive and fun nonetheless

FallingIntoAutumn · 27/11/2025 15:44

I want an alien for Christmas
and

christmas wrapping the waitresses

GlosGirl82 · 27/11/2025 15:45

Christmas Wrapping - Christmas but still a bit punk

NKU2029 · 27/11/2025 15:45

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas - Kacey Musgraves Versions

adropofgoldensun · 27/11/2025 15:49

Feliz Navifad here too!
Also really like the Leona Lewis one. Not even sure what it’s called but it’s about counting down to Christmas, could be One More Sleep.
But nothing tops Fairytale of New York for me. An obvious choice I know.

PandorasBox7 · 27/11/2025 15:52

Mine is Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. At the moment I don’t feel much like celebrating after the death of someone very close to me. The lyrics are what I feel at the moment.

Lastfroginthebox · 28/11/2025 03:23

I like the Greg Lake one too. Also, Pretenders '2000 miles'. I love many carols (but NOT 'Silent Night'!) even though I'm an atheist. In classical music, almost any Sibelius seems Christmassy to me.

Myblueclematis · 28/11/2025 09:33

I have a soft spot for Bob Dylan's It Must be Santa, he sounds like he's gargling pebbles but it is pretty fast and makes a change from the normal rotation of Christmas songs that have been going for decades. Always cheers me up when I hear this one.

Manic Hispanic - Santa Got Run Over by My Chevy - YouTube https://share.google/3LL7I8oYsIxk2JqhM

I have a few that I really like.

'Santa got run over by my Chevy' by Manic Hispanic is funnier than 'Grandma got run over by a reindeer', imho. Same tune, different vibe.

I love the Bob Dylan Christmas song too.

Also Stop the Cavalry, Feliz Navidad, and Have a yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Edited

Love Bob Dylan’s Christmas songs too @mathanxiety . Is it “Must Be Santa” you’re referring to? 🎄

I'll probably get slaughtered for saying this but I can't stand Fairytale of New York. I used to like it but over the years I've got sick of hearing it so it's not one I enjoy hearing any more.

I do like Ding Dong Merrily on High and I Saw Three Ships as two Christmas songs I remember from being in school decades ago and if they are on Carols at Kings on Christmas Eve. They are quite upbeat carols and remind me of past Christmas celebrations when still at home with my parents and brother.

Not just you, I absolutely cannot bear FOTY.

One of the most beautiful tunes is 'Jesus Christ the Apple Tree'. It's even more haunting when sung by boy choristers. I don't know if it's especially Christmassy but it feels that way to me.

I'm going through this thread, making notes and listing all the ones I like. Most I've heard of before but 'Snow is falling in Manhattan' was new to me, as was Chilly Gonzales. I've found it on YouTube, listened and watched the video and it's utterly brilliant! Great song, beautiful singing and music, fabulous video and the lyrics are amazing. Such clever rhymes too - not often evident in today's songs. It's instantly gone into my Christmas Top Ten. Thanks so much for introducing me to it.

So glad you like it - I play it loads around Christmas. The original song was by Purple Mountains, but I like the Jarvis/Chilly cover version, I think Jarvis's voice is perfect for it

FurForksSake · 29/11/2025 17:40

River - Joni Mitchell.
carol of the bells
Gaudete - steeleye span
white winter hymnal - fleet foxes (not a Christmas song, but very evocative and “festive” to me)

Tupperwarefan · 29/11/2025 17:41

So many…I need to write a list, Im sorry.
Tim Minchin white wine in the sun
band aid
flying pickets and Freiheit.
absolutely love Christmas songs

One More Sleep 'Till Christmas by Kermit the frog is my favourite.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/11/2025 18:12

@FurForksSake - I love Steeleye Span’s Gaudete too. And their Wintersmith album.

I love 'Do you hear what I hear' - the version by Johnny Mathis from Gremlins Grin is the one I always think of.
