Whilst putting my tree’s up today and listening to Christmas music I got to thinking about my all time favourite Christmas song. This year I had Ring Out, Solstice Bells on repeat basically the whole time I decced the front room, what a fantastic tune!

Whats yours?

Greg Lakes’s I Believe In Father Christmas
and
Fairytale Of New York

Traditional - Away in a Manger

jay55 · 23/11/2025 10:24

I love all of them, unless they are sung by chipmunks or pinky and perky.

Little Drummer Boy, In the bleak midwinter and Carol of the bells are my faves to sing.
I wish it could be Christmas every day and Santa Claus is coming to town for a dance around in my pjs moment.

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses has been a favourite for around three or four years but I also like Sleigh Ride by The Ronettes. I quite like Come Home for Christmas by The Eagles too.

Carols: Silent Night (from Carols at Kings) or by Sinead O'Connor and Once in Royal David's City also Carols at Kings).

Theyreeatingthedogs · 23/11/2025 10:25

Fairytale of New York. Nothing comes close.

Myblueclematis · 23/11/2025 10:26

You love them that much 😂😂😂

MarchingOnTogether · 23/11/2025 11:11

Anything but Mariah Carey haha!

Fairytale of New York has gotta be my actual fave!
I quite like santa baby too, preferably the Kylie version, its just so materialistic instead of other the other feel good songs 😂

I also have a soft spot for a cheesey tune by Britney, think its called my Christmas wish. Its so cheesey and has a similar theme to Mariah Carey but its not quite as in your face 😂

Slade Merry Christmas even after 40 years it’s still a belter. And I absolutely love it.

50 years 😀

Giddykiddy · 23/11/2025 12:06

Band aid
Fairytale of NY
Mariah
Slade - merry Christmas - all very old school

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 23/11/2025 12:08

Fairytale of New York for a pop song. (Amazingly the Americans don't recognise it when you play it for them!). Hark the Herald Angels Sing is my favourite carol to sing.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 23/11/2025 12:58

There are so many! I love Fairy Tale of New York, Greg Lake, I believe in Father Christmas, Guadete, all the big hitters from the 70s. My favourite hymns are In the Bleak Midwinter, Love came down at Christmas, The First Noel and Hark the Herald.

LoserWinner · 23/11/2025 15:44

Joy to the World for singing in church.
While Shepherds Watched to the tune of On Ilkley Moor Bah’t At for community singing.
And I rather like the sentiment of Every Star shall sing a Carol.

Jumpeduppantry · 23/11/2025 17:02

Donna and Blitzen by Badly Drawn Boy is lovely

Boudica70 · 23/11/2025 17:08

The whole of the Jethro Tull Christmas Album.
The Coventry carol.

HarryGrotter · 23/11/2025 18:16

Edited

I always play Charlie Brown's Christmas soundtrack it is sublime.

Us as well.

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 25/11/2025 06:25

Has to be Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin' Stevens for me - just the intro instantly takes me back to being 11-years-old and being thrilled that my favourite singer had a song out at Christmas!
Others include Stop the Cavalry (Jona Lewie), Last Christmas (Wham!), Wonderful Christmastime (Paul McCartney), A Winter's Tale (David Essex) and Wombling Merry Christmas (The Wombles!).
I bloody love Christmas and I love the Christmas songs of the 70s and 80s. They make me feel happy!
For New Year, I love Abba's Happy New Year - even if it is a bit melancholy.

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 25/11/2025 06:27

Oh, and I absolutely detest Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas. Hate it with a passion!

Raahh · 25/11/2025 06:45

I always play the Phil Spectre ' Christmas Gift for you ' album when putting up the tree( it's the one with Darlene Love/ Ronettes/ Frosty the Snowman etc on it).
My mum always played it when I was younger. I have collected several versions over the years on lp, cd and cassette. But play it via AlexaGrin

My other favourite individual songs- ' O Holy Night' ( has to be Nat King Cole) ,the Waitresses, 'Christmas Wrapping'
And Wham!

Sipperskipper · 25/11/2025 06:51

I just love all of them!

Top 3 pop - I believe in Father Christmas (Greg Lake), I wish it could be Christmas every day (Wizzard), Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie. The Greg Lake one is just a gorgeous tune and magical lyrics, but the other 2 remind me of being little and lovely family Christmas times.

Favourite Carol - probably Once in Royal David’s City.

Rainbow898 · 25/11/2025 14:29

Gosh I have loads 😂

Cheesy/fun fave - Proper Crimbo by Bo Selecta

Childhood memories favourite - Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie

Modern Favourite - One More Sleep by Leona Lewis

One that makes me emotional - Silent Night

Ultimate favorite - Fairytale of New Year

but really I love them all!

Rainbow898 · 25/11/2025 14:30

Oh I haven’t seen A Spaceman Came Travelling mentioned (unless I’ve missed it). Another childhood one!

Nutmuncher · 25/11/2025 14:33

Too many to list, Mariah, Queen, Whitney, the whole Phil Spector album, Darleen Love,
